Review Farmers Daughter - Canberra

Hannah A
The best vanilla latte I’ve found in the Canberra area among the MANY coffee shops. The porridge is something I’m still craving- it was absolutely delicious, came in a large portion and I found myself continuing to eat it despite how full I was. It was THAT good. It’s tucked in a tiny little shopping strip.

This is really nice cafe to sit and relax. My dirty chai was of a reasonable price and quality. From what I could see of the food being served, it too was of good quality and quantity. I didn't hear any complaints from the clientele! Recommended.

We booked a table for six. It was all ready when arrived. The service was quick. The coffee was strong, hot, and delicious. The meals were fresh and creative. I had poached eggs and they were perfect. My companion had the chicken salad and all the elements were perfectly cooked, seasoned, and the vinaigrette didn't over power the dish but made it taste zesty and vibrant. We will be back!

Great cosy, and busy Cafe. Food was great and snappy service. We took our pooch and sat outside. Nice lively Cafe!

Coming away from Canberra, popped in for a hot chocolate. Lovely Cafe, friendly staff and delightful pastries. Seems this is the local " hanging out " joint . Busy.

My regular coffee haunt in Canberra. Never regret coming here, though I wish the croissants tasted a littleeee fresher for the price. EQ in Deakin is better for this

Had a lovely leisurely brunch here. Fantastic food and coffee, and great service. Recommended!

Very nice Cafe with brilliant waiters. A young boy tamed Riley treated us very well and swiftly delivered the food

I’m a strong believer in second chances. Farmers Daughter have recently picked up their game in a big way. The menu is inspired and the addition of the best selection of pies is so welcome. The coffee is better, the selection is better and the food is great. Well done for seeing a problem and fixing. I can now say I full heartedly recommend this cafe.

The Macaroons at Farmers Daughter would have to be some of the best in Canberra. Their coffee isn't bad either. We like the Yarralumla store, but they have other locations throughout Canberra.

The most impressive thing about Farmers Daughter is the amazing picture on the back wall. If you can tear your eyes away from the cakes and quiches, that image will be the icing on a delicious meal.
Great quiche, good coffee, fresh salads and hipster wait staff make this a keeper - but pick your time as the clientele gets a fair bit older than other coffee spots nearby :)

Baked eggs are sooooooooooo yummy. Good healthy serve of bread on the side. Partner had a sweet rhubarb toast with icecream for bfast they loved it too. Coffee could be hotter.
Tales Of Rose
Great fitout, good coffee, something for everyone on the menu and inviting for groups and families. A lovely way to spend the morning on a weekend :)

Farmer’s Daughter at the Yarralumla shops is looking a bit different these days. It’s less busy and the menu has changed, but it is open daily (except public holidays) (7-3pm weekdays, 8-2pm weekends) and is still a great spot for breakfast or lunch within an easy distance of the Woden business district. The atmosphere is inviting and there is plenty of seating. The dishes are good value and well sized for sharing. The salads are interesting and beautifully presented and if teamed with a side of one of the Artisan breads ($2.50 per slice of toast/bread), could even be a light lunch for two modest appetites.

Sunday breakfast. Went to have breakfast on Sunday at FD. I won't rave about the coffee as we had peppermint tea which was one of the best I have ever had. I had mushrooms, beautiful! My partner had the crepes and he was impressed. Service - well timed and friendly. Only criticism was that I had to ask for the pepper. Good experience and I will be going there again.

This place is so slow. And they just don't seem to have any hustle or urgency or desire to make our wait shorter. The few positives of this place are outweighed by the ridiculous waiting times and service with attitude.

I want to like this place. But ordering and then waiting a period that is incommensurate with the complexity of the order is insulting. And this is a continual occurrence. Shame.

Busy but worth it. Always enjoyed this place. The omelette was lovely, the coffee solid.
Reasonably busy but the wait wasn't too long.

A favourite. This place has quickly become one of my favourite breakfast venues. While it's usually pretty busy staff always seem to make sure you're well looked after. Prices aren't outrageous but do add up if you have a few sides, I don't mind though as they are terribly delicious and given generously. The fit out is lovely, the use of different cuttlerly and dinnerware are appreciated - it's all in the detail after all! But I have to say the biggest star here is the staff. One young man in particular who is always quiet by friendly and accommodating.

This is suppose to be trendy & organic, I get it. The food was nice, but definitely doesn't warrant a 45 minutes wait, average service, or the $$$ price tag.
Foodie
Terrible ... Wouldn't recommend .. We order they ran out of the food we wanted then they tell us it's half an hour wait ... Ok your busy but you only have 40 people to worry about good one

Lovely staff, bad food. After hearing such great things about this place I was so disappointed! The staff were really nice and everything came out really quickly, which I was pleased about. I enjoyed my cup of chai but the food was a let down. I had the breakfast burger and the bacon was undercooked and they hadn't toasted the brioche bun! The hollandaise was also extemely sour. The egg was poached nicely so I ate that, but left everything else on the plate. I'd be willing to go back here for another try but not in any rush to do so.
Pdg
Terrible. Had a hot chocolate there today. Although I was a sit in customer it was served in a cardboard mug with a cap on it. It tasted only of milk as the chocolate (a horrible sweet variety) remained at the container's bottom completely unstirred. When this was drawn to the attention of a staff member, he seemed not to care in the slightest. Never again.
Short Circuit
Yummy Breakfast. Good breakfast with a decent size serving. A little expensive than most places but the coffee is spot on.

Don't think of coming here unless you are friends with the manager! Our food, 1 hour for the poached egg burger and was cold and inciped. Table next to us were friends arrived 40 minutes after us and got there food at the same time as us! What a scam....

-----21 Dec, 2013-----

Still waiting. ..one hour. First coffee came in quick time then didn't get anymore service until have to ask. Service staff and chef seem more content talking to friends than actually serving. About to pull the trigger on this so called place of food. Yo busy my ass....so is McDonald's!

-----21 Dec, 2013-----

What a wank of a place. Waiters weren't really be attentive unless you were of the beautiful kind. Just got given menu but others had different things which we weren't told about. Asked what single blend then asked which way best to have. Any way you like the answer. Decided on short black followed by cappuccino. Told I couldn't have cap. Waiting for breakfast, 45 minutes. .....sides expensive, better be good and plentiful!

Good breakfast, slightly controversial painting. Been trying to find good pouched eggs, they did them well here. Great coffee. Only criticism is the seats a little uncomfortable.
Samsonhollier
Delicious. Some of the negative reviews are a little harsh. When we visited the staff were great. Very professional and happy to help. The coffee is nothing to complain about either. The eggs were brilliant.
Andrew Taylor
I like the food even though expensive compared to others around.Shame you cannot book a table.Has been slow service every time we have been .Staff seem nice. Would prefer to be able to sit outside in summer but only a few seats. Very noisy inside.
Green63k
Overpriced with a dash of attitude.
Carolyn Pik
Surprised by the negative reviews. Have been for breakfast, food is tasty and nicely presented, my coffee was great. Staff happy to accommodate my dietary requirements. Would definitely go again.
Ellen Schofield
Overrated. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Wouldn't take our booking so we just had to turn up. Cornbread as hard as a brick. Scrambled eggs rubbery and ordinary and bacon over cooked. Didn't like the coffee. Won't go again.

Coming from Melbourne we thought the service was good. The food was really interesting and very well presented. Service cheerful and efficient. Would highly recommend.

Shame farmers daughter shame. Would have to be one of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had! Took over an hour for the food to be served, and that was only after we reminded them we were still waiting. The orders were wrong (when they finally arrived), the eggs had shell in them, and the coffee was cold. When we complained about the service we received a lack lustre response from the wait staff and had to ask twice to speak to the manager.
My recommendation would be - don't bother with the farmers daughter, save your money and your taste buds.
Breanna
Delicious brunch! Food was well presented, coffee was delicious, and my brunch came with an apple :) will definitely come back.

Great Addition to Canberra's Cafe Scene. I was surprised to read a multitude of pretty bad reviews on Farmers Daughter. My own personal experience was terrific, my partner and I were given a $60 gift voucher for Christmas and went in April. When we were driving there we realised our voucher was 2 days past its use by and we called to see if this would be an issue and they said it was fine and we appreciated the flexibility.

When we got there we were both impressed with the semi industrial feel to the place and noticed lots of nice details, the small juice bottles with the paper straw (loved the concept but quite a small serve of juice), nice crockery, and I for one quite like the painting of the woman milking a cow, i think it is meant to embody the 'farmers daughter' concept but i guess i can see how conservatives could find it sexist. I also disagree with other comments regarding the coffee as i'm quite a fussy coffee drinker however i enjoyed my coffee, it was strong and the right temperature (which is often not hot enough for the majority)

My partner and I both enjoyed our meals a lot, a slightly different take on a couple of classics. we had something bruchetta-esque and i had a breakfast burger i think it was. The burger was ok, but the bruschetta was delicious. We then very lavishly ordered dessert and had the crepes it came with fig and fresh honeycomb. a perfect finish to a delicious lunch. When we went to pay the meal had come to exactly $60 which we both thought was pretty good for 3 meals, 2 coffees and a juice. Although i must admit they were closing up the cafe as we were finishing which would have been around 3pm, which as others have mentioned seems quite early for this type of cafe who would do well in the afternoon trade. The service was also good, friendly and attentive but not intrusive or pretentious. thumbs up, i'll be going back next time i'm in the area.

The reviews on here are spot on. Good food, albeit at Canberra's standard high prices. But the service, an unfortunate blight on the experience.
Food Inc
Nice but overpirced. Too much effort spend on the decor rather than quality rather than the food. Nice but there are better places to go.

I have had lunch and breakfast here several times now. Good food excellent service and funky decor. It my new favourite.
Foodpornjournal
Expensive for what it is. Expensive cafe for very average breakfast. Burnt coffee. Didn't like this place. Friendly service though.
Baahjaven
Service and food not bad however order was not put on the system and resulted in a one hour wait - I expected out order to be prioritized however this was not the case. Not happy considering I was so excited to try this place - great food and service however the wait was far too long and a very disappointing experience. Ensure your order is entered in the system to avoid delay-- compensated coffees and macaroons does not do when both rounds of coffees are finished and you are still waiting for your order

Our brunch started out well with good service and great coffee. Quickly went downhill. Waited ages for the meals. When they came, the poached eggs and bacon were overcooked. Nothing spectacular. Might come back for coffee but definitely give this a miss for food.

Bad coffee. Bad attitude.. Farmers Daughter makes the worst coffee in Yarralumla. That is quite an achievement since the rather paltry competition includes a kebab shop.

I let them know that the coffee was sub-par and the reply I received was "how about you just get stuffed".
If by 'get stuffed' they mean take my business to the cafe less than 10 metres away, never come back and tell other people how dreadful they are I am only too pleased to comply
Georgie
Don't bother. Tiny space.. Owner strutting around in heeled knee high boots.. What's with that? The orange hot chocolate is terrible as is the campers coffee.. It's all a bit too styled but not in a cool way...
Wouldn't go back

I like this place, I've been a few times and I like the coffee. The menu is great too, I've had breakfast there twice and enjoyed it, and the macaroons are to die for! However, I am put off by anywhere that is too precious to take bookings - seriously if I can't be guaranteed a table, why would I bother going?? For this reason I tend to go to Beess & Co if I'm having breakfast in Yarralumla. Just as good if not better.

Dumb decor choice. The food and coffee were good but there is a (recently and unfortunately added) mural inside the cafe that is as dumb as it is sexist and demeaning. Don't think south east asia is big on fresian cows - nor on dressing like 50s pin up girls to milk them...Won't be going back on that basis - nor recommending it to my multitude of new mother girlfriends who buy lots of coffee, baby ccinos and treats each week.

I've tried...... I live in Yarralumla. I was excited this place opened. I have tried to support them.
It just doesn't work.
They're slow - the coffee is good but 20 minutes, hello!
They don't remember regulars.
They can't manage table bookings.
They can't manage people waiting for tables.
They close too early.
And they have this really dumb month long holiday over Christmas and New Year.
HanCaskie
Pleasant but Pricey. A busy little food hotspot under the gorgeous draping trees of Yarralumla. It's popular so get here late (after the bikers rush around 8am) for breakfast or a scrumptious lunch from midday.

Museli is great and well presented, eggs always cooked to perfection and coffee goes down a treat.
Staff are normally delightful, just watch out for those ditzy waitresses who can't seem to remember that they have customers sitting outside.
However, the prices are little grander then most Canberra breakfast spots.
Annie
This place is so nice, I wish there was more seats though we almost didn't get one and its so good to get an amazing coffee made with bonsoy I was really impressed with the service also
Megan-d
Over-rated. Completely overpriced and underwhelming. Service was like they could not be bothered. Spent $26 for two hot chocolates and 2 pastries ($5.50 for a luke warm, small hot choc is way over the top). Served the hot drinks followed quite a while later by the pastries which they just had to put on a plate out of the display cabinet.

Will not be going back!

Great coffee and fantastic service. We shared the continental as a mid-ride snack and found it perfect to refuel. Will come again.

Excellent. Great coffe, yummy food and a proper sized table to read the papers on Saturday morning. We love farmers daughter and the macaroons are delish!
Poboysammy
Over priced. Twenty two dollars and fifty cents for three slices of cold cut, a chunk of bread and a wee bit of cheese? and this for two people as the menu suggests?!
Any Ploughman would have been sorely disappointed by this 'lunch' .
Less on the prevention and more on affordable good food and you would do well.

Would benefit from more attention to detail. Cons:
My 'Farmers Salad' had two bits of chorizo and one bit of pumpkin. The rest was entirely rocket. This salad was $14.50. The salad would have been so delicious (if a tad over priced) if they had actually included a decent amount of the advertised ingredients.

Pros: Friendly attentive and helpful staff. Nice coffees.
ShellA
Very over rated! Brunch was ordinary, menu selection was minimal. Attention to detail poor - I was served a dirty sticky knife. I will not return.

C'mon guys, not really serious. I' love to write a review of this place, really I would. The buzz is good, but are they serious? You be the judge.

I called up looking to book in for brunch one Saturday. Sorry, we don't take bookings, but there will be no trouble if you just turn up. We turned up. Sorry, no table, but it will only be 15 mins. 45 mins later, no table, so we went elsewhere.

Second attempt in mid January for a quick lunch between meetings. They were still closed for the holidays. Really?

Third attempt last week for a coffee at 3.15. They closed at 3pm. You have got to be kidding me. What kind of coffee place routinely closes at 3 pm??

I don' think there will be a fourth attempt. Sorry, but they just don't seem to be that serious about serving their potential customers.

Great. Awesome coffee and nice food. The staff were friendly and efficient. Yummy!

I went with a very open mind and left with a very unsatisfied tummy. Farmers Daughters' coffee definitely didn't come close to my Ona Coffee standard and the fritters were a complete let down. The service however, was quick, friendly and attentive. I could be convinced to give them a second chance one day but I'm definitely not in a hurry for bad fritters and bad coffee so that one day might take some time!
Missklicious
Prosciutto and romesco. Loved this dish - the bread was fantastically crunchy and the toppings matched well - I couldn't choose a favourite between the salmon and proscuitto
Tales Of A Confectionist
Overall a very cute space to meet up with friends for a coffee and some very nice sweets. I would love to go again and hope it does well as it shares the Yarralumla shops with two other bakeries/cafes.

Here in Canberra, I’ve developed a love of Campos coffee beans and luckily I’ve found a venue that expertly nails great coffee made with Campos – Farmer’s Daughter in Yarralumla. When my friend Sam and his girlfriend Stacey were visiting from Perth a few weeks ago, I made the suggestion of meeting at Farmer’s Daughter for breakfast. When I arrived, I noticed that they’d changed their menu and there were a few interesting new items available, including Country Pumpkin (spiced roasted pumpkin on sourdough with poached eggs, bacon and sage burnt butter) and Farmer’s Daughter Porridge (Fig, cinnamon and apple porridge with brown sugar an

Best poached eggs I’ve had to date!!
The eggs just oozed out in goodness.
The eggs slathered in hollandaise sauce together with bacon and a buttery brioche. Ah what a delight!
I'll be back!

My potato and bacon frittata was also quite tasty, with a nice crunchy crust on the top, and creamy potato slices in the filling. The bacon imparted a subtle smokey flavour through the layers of potato. Then there was the side salad. My experience with side salads has mostly been a measly pile of random green leaves and possibly a wedge of tomato or

The menus are on cute little clipboards and it’s one of those occasions where everything sounds enticing; enough adjectives to intrigue but not so many as to overwhelm. I consider the french toast, described as ‘soft toasted brioche slices served with fresh summer berries and lavender cream’, but I can never quite go past a savoury brunch and so I choose the fried egg bruschetta with romesco. Breakfast dishes hover around the $16 mark, so you know if it’s less than perfect I’ll be sending it back.

'Poached Eggs' came with smoked salmon and feta parsley salad on toasted sourdough. The eggs were beautifully poached and yes, the yolk oozed out when i poked it with a fork. The salmon was good and everything went well together...very filling dish.
