Review Indian Affair In The City - Canberra

A fantastic Museum and war memorial. Would highly recommend attending if you are visiting Canberra. It is free to the public but you do need to go onto the website a book a time due to covid restrictions.

I have to put 5 star. The memorial is amazing with fascinating stories. They have real artefacts from Second World War and First World War. Real size planes, canon, car, weapons ect… The view from the unknown soldier tomb is amazing. You can see the parliaments on the other side

One of the best war memorials in the world. Not to be missed if you're in Canberra. Beginning from first world war, continues through the second and all the latest wars are added. Try to attend the closing ceremony during dusk. Lest we forget.

The War Memorial is a great way to remember the fallen and learn about the wars Australia was in. WWI, WWII, Vietnam war, Korean war and many more are included. There are countless artifacts and bits of information which tell visitors about Australia's part in the wars mentioned above. Unfortunately when I visited it was under renovation, although when it is done I will come again and see all the War Memorial has to offer.

Something every Australian should see, and take their children to see. It should be compulsary, stuff in there will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. It is impossible to walk thru this building and not be moved in some way. It is an amazing and timeless tribute to our fallen. Go and see it.

Very interesting and informative, they were so young, quite emotional. Still undergoing renovations and the Vietnam section is currently closed off.

Was very moving and so much material has been collected and preserved from battles of the past and memories of those special moments of human kindness which flourished in such terrible times.

Amazing place full of so much history, very emotional. Highly recommend everyone to make the effort, going under major renovations

Goan was little out of the taste, but liked it, and the Lady,

i think the lady who was serving us must be the owner of the restaurant, she was shouting on every co-worker, but was very friendly with me, so no comments. overall good experience.

recommend for family not for the friends, bcoz the place is good for food only not for hang-around with friends, the environment is dead !

Dissatisfied. Staff were extremely rude, no one knew what was going on with our mains as they took over an hour to come outwould never recommend this place to anyone.

Terrible. Was at a 21st party there tonight. Good was beyond terrible and staff were the rudest I have ever met. Peanuts on the floor and we were all disgusting pigs and they would never want any of ' our kind' there again. No problem at all. All 60 or so of us would never want to come back.

Relaxing and Lively. I loved the paneer best and also had a soft spot for the lamb. Nana bread was appetising but I did find the Goan fish curry a tad too sour. The lady host was friendly and engaging. It was a nippy night outside and there was a boisterous lad's big night party in the bar section. The children must have loved their butter chicken and special coloured rice. The birthday bloke at our table could not get the goat curry he was eyeing for. Licensed, it had a healthy crowd on a Saturday evening. Overall I was happy with the tastiness of the various gravies and the whole experience.

Tried many times to review this restaurant but my reviews keep being "deleted". Anyway, we came here twice with a large group, and never will again. The food is oily, the staff obnoxious and rude & the drinks were overpriced. Spend your dollars elsewhere - the Indian/Italian experiment here has clearly failed.

Amazing as always. I have been a long time diner with Indian Affair in Phillip and was thrilled to know they have expanded to the City. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was very different to Phillip. I did love the purple décor and the fact they have a large space available to host parties.
The girls (daughters of the Phillip owners) were lovely and their staff and it’s great to see that there are still good old fashioned family run businesses around.
The vegetarian options have expanded which is a great treat being a vegetarian. The spinach in potato is my favourite but I have come to love their eggplant curry and the naans were nice and fluffy. Overall a wonderful dining experience

Go to the shop in Woden. Noting like the indian affair we know in Phillip. The girls behind the bar were rude and the food was overpriced and mediocre. Weird nightclub attached, it is all very strange...

Worst dining experience. The Indian food is a far cry from the Phillip store. The service is alright (when they pay attention to you) the food is average and there is a very pricey wine list (all very terrible and over price. Staff are rude and the atmosphere is shocking there is a pinball machine in the centre of the bar.The food is more expensive than jewel of india or punjabi hut and no where near as good. Don't waste any time or money going here

THE BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT!!!. This would be my favourite Indian restaurant, been here numerous times. The atmosphere is always comfortable and pleasing, food is always consistant and perfect, my favourite dish would be the Lamb Korma followed closely by Butter Chicken both an absolute delight. The staff are very kind and helpful in selecting dishes and asked numerous times how the dinner was.
Thank you for providing a great dinner, will definitely be back!

I love going here! The foo.... I love going here!
The food is great and the staff are very hospitable. Very reasonably price mains and a nice atmosphere.
By far my favourite Indian food in Canberra.

Mediocre at best. Very friendly service. Atmosphere ok. Food average. Nothing too special at all. ok at best. You can get a tandoori pizza anywhere. Not awful though

Unexpected Surprise. I will admit, this is not the type of restaurant I usually go for and upon entering the place I was somewhat ready to lower my expectations. That said, I'm always up for trying something new and Indian/Italian fusion is just that.

While the decor isn't exactly to my taste and the split between the restaurant and the dance venue a bit of an odd choice, the food speaks for itself.

With lots of interesting options on offer, there is generally something for everyone (unless you don't like good food). Worth a try, at least once, if you make your way to Canberra.

Fan-fusion-tastic!. I’ve heard complaints that Digress cannot decide if it is a club or a restaurant, and to that I ask why it matters? It successfully toes the line between fun night out and elegant meal in the city.

Having been there a handful of times, Digress is the sort of chameleonic venue which can suit the needs of a number of different occasions. I’ve been with friends for a casual dinner, with a colleague for a business dinner, with eight of my closest friends for a giant banquet and Digress always gets the job done. The food sounds weird, no doubt.

Indian/Italian fusion was bound to be one of those things that was either going to be sublime or a giant disaster. Thankfully, it’s the former.

The Paneer and Mozzarella fritters are crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, and the dipping sauce packs a punch (not for wimps like me). Naan, an Indian staple, is reinvented here as the feta naan melts in your mouth so easily that the only regret becomes that it is gone. Even just the regular naan is surprisingly delicate and flavourful – and it’s just plain naan.

Not living in Canberra, my problem when it comes to the mains is being scared to try new things and missing out on having my favourite – the Tandoori Chicken Penne. This pasta is really flavourful (without being too hot), and the charcoal-grilled chicken provides so much more to the meal than an ordinary pasta with its smooshy chicken pieces.

Don’t be sad if you do like spicy food, though. Digress has you covered. In an instance of branching out, I tried the Paneer Risotto, and whilst I sat and quietly wept at the table from spiciness, the dish only rated a medium on the chili factor. And it was amazing.

Food aside, Digress is set apart from its competitors by its excellent service – a known criticism of Indian restaurants (at least in Sydney) where the majority of service staff are disinterested students. The Digress girls are absolutely lovely, happy to make recommendations, answer questions, accommodate my vegan friend and ensure that no glasses go empty. The beverage list is reasonably priced, and always features some sort of interesting craft beer – which is always a win in my book.

So, whilst it’s a big call, I’m going to say it’s my favourite restaurant. Ever. In fact, most people would like me to stop talking about it. My only complaint? How infrequently I am able to visit.

Oily, slow, loud. Food was oily and didn't taste very nice. I had the Chicken Risotto and my partner had the Tandori chicken penne. Our other guests had some appetizers as mains.

My chicken risotto was okay. Not great, but okay. The Tandoori chicken penne however did not work at all, would have rather had some tandoori chicken from the Indian place in civic shops.

The staff were quite nice, however I ordered a coke which took about 15 minutes to conjure.

We also had the Mixed platter for 4. The lamb was tender but oily, the rest of the items were okay but yeah also oily.

Have I mentioned the oil yet? Oh yeah........ I did.

There was also heaps of room in the restaurant, however they decided to sit all their guests next to each other in one corner. This meant we were right next to a young group of guys who were pretty loud, which is fine until we couldn't hear each other at our own table.

Was really looking forward to trying it, now I unfortunately regret it. I feel kind of sick now after it.

Would not recommend. :(

The food and service was fantastic. The Italian and India dishes work surprisingly well. There was a minor mishap of the night which was that our drinks were forgotten. But overall it was a great experience.

The waitress must have owned the place because her personal service was incredible. She would do anything for us. She helped us choose from an unusual menu and we were all happy. Large well cooked dishes with special flavours. A great experience.

Nice infusion of Indian and Italian food..

Shocking service. Am amazed to read the positive reviews about Digress here. Came here with a large group (prebooked) for lunch and ordered the banquet. When we questioned the owner on whether the food would be enough, we were reassured that it definitely would be.
2x 10 inch pizzas and 2 x pasta dishes for a table of 10 people is really not "enough" to feed a group half that size. The waitress said they will cook more food once we finished but that took another 20 minutes and by then, everyone was over the place, so we just left.

An infusion delight. An infusion of Indian and Italian. It sounds scary...... but fear not....... it's TOTALLY worth the risk!! Tonight was my second venture into Digress....and i couldn't wait to see what else it had in store for me.

My first venture into Digress saw me attempt the Fetta Naan for entree and the Tandoori Chicken Penne for my main. It was absolutely fabulous!

Tonight i was going all out. Our waitress was kind enough to make suggestions based on my love of spice, and my friends dislike of spice.

We chose to go with all of the waitresses suggestions. Entree was the Cheese and Oregano Naan, main was the Chilli Chicken Fusilli (and it provided just the perfect amount of spicyness), and then dessert was the Gulab Jamun with Gelato (golden fried dumplings in a rose syrup with pistachio flavoured gelato). All up we spent $40 each for our meals which also covered a beer as well. We left as two very full, and very happy customers.

Could not recommend it highly enough!

Will DEFINATELY be coming back again!

An interesting idea. After some initial misgivings the experience was just fine

Indian Affair in the City is quite different to it’s the sister restaurant of Indian Affair in Phillip. Co-located with Digress, it is the night club that is the major interest, with the restaurant offering a (very) quiet, small, view challenged (unless you count Bollywood video clips, which are an interesting touch), (very) quick meal. No BYO is available (due to the night club licensing arrangements)...

Digress is definitely Canberra’s, probably Australia’s, and possibly the world’s only Indian-Italian fusion restaurant known to me. Where else can you get so-crazy-it-just-might-work mashups like chicken tikka carbonara and vindaloo pizza? But I think their greatest creation might be the “Proud Punjabi”, an addictively toothsome combination of mango lassi, coconut liqueur, and Tia Maria. Expensive, but worthy.

Indian Affair in the City is the offshoot of Indian Affair Restaurant in Phillip. On this occasion, I ordered the butter chicken, which came in a takeaway container. This butter chicken can be described with one word. Luscious. The sauce was sweet and creamy…almost velvety in texture.

Digress offers an Italian-Indian fusion meals - nothing like we've ever had before. I think that the restaurant needs to do a lot more advertising or at least have a bigger signage outside the premise, because really, unless you really want to go in, it's not very inviting. Also, I'm always on the lookout for such a quirky and different type of restaurant, and yet I have never actually seen any advertisement about this place. Had we not seen them at the festival, we wouldn't know about them.

I got myself the Tandoori chicken pizza and holy crap, I did not regret that decision. This has to go down as probably one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Ever. The dough was soft, the toppings were a-plenty, the ingredients were fresh and the size was more then filling. I actually felt like I was going to vomit, from being so full – but I just could not stop eating it!!!

Indian and Italian fusion? Sounds kind of weird, and not exactly something one comes across very often. In fact, Digress claims to be the first restaurant to combine both cuisines not only on the same menu, but in the same dish.

Located next to Transit Bar, Digress is both a bar and a restaurant. The stairs from the entrance take you straight into the lounge. There's a special on most nights, and Friday's happy hour is 5-7pm, with $5 basic spirits, beer and house wine as well as a live band. There is also a swing social on later in the evening that a couple of friends want to attend, so we're there for drinks and dinner. The restaurant is located on the same floor, separated by a wall and some curtains. Decor is simple and elegant.

Digress Restaurant & Lounge is a very comfortable and relaxing place to enjoy your meal and catch up with friends. The service is good and the staff is super friendly. The highlights of this meal for me will be the mozzarella & paneer fritters, the naan basket and the mains.
