Review Siren Bar And Restaurant - Canberra

Regularly get dumplings from here and always love them. Also love the Shallot Pancakes. Have eaten in a couple of times as well and service is always friendly. Love seeing the dumplings freshly made.

Really disappointed in the quality the chicken used for their kung po chicken. They used low quality cheap drumstick meat with lots of tendons instead of chicken breast meat that's suppose to be used in kung po chicken. This is honestly the worst kung po chicken I have ever tasted in my life. As a chinese. I can tell you this from the heart Also they charge $4 for a 375ml can of coke, ridiculous. edit: in response to owner: I asked to confirm that the chicken was instead leg part because I was writing this review. Normally Chinese charge $2.5 to 3 for a can of coke and use breast meat for their kung pao chicken. I only ate about 1/3 of the dish, mostly the rice. Even the fried rice was subpar. I paid $17.5 for my meal and was still very hungry because I ate only a little bit.

Booked dinner for my mum’s birthday only to be told when we turned up that our booking had been cancelled one hour ago. The staff could not tell us the name of the person who cancelled or the phone number. We are regulars and now don’t want to come back because we have been let down and my mum’s birthday dinner ruined. Not happy.

Excellent food along with great choi

Ginger and Spice ticked almost all the right boxes. Great ambience, fantastic service, lot of niceties, including complimentary fortune cookies and wet towels. We ordered a sweet and sour pork, a ginger beef, and a hot and sour soup. I really wanted to like the ginger beef, which smelled incredible; without the sauce, the meat was rather bland, which I found disappointing. On the bright side, the hot and sour soup was delicious and the sweet and sour pork worked well. Overall, a deep menu that bodes well for my return because I'm sure to give a place like this another shot.

I have eaten here multiple times before both in-person and through online ordering, it has not always been a fabulous experience but this restaurant deserved this review today. I ordered on Doordash an hour ago. The food arrived within 35 min, steaming, fresh and tasty! It is quite common to recieve cold food when you order through a delivery portal but that was not the case today. I called the restaurant prior to make an addition/changes, which was also reflected in my order. Overall, with staff service, food quality, taste and experience, this place is a winner in my books!

Great food, but i was extremely put off by the surcharge fee, which is not mentioned on their website, or even anywhere for that matter, staff should also be informing customers of extra surcharge fees, before charging them not after. It's dishonest.

The best option for Chinese food in Gungahlin. Service is always friendly and owner is amazing. Would highly recommend the garlic steamed prawns from the Chinese menu.

Little background: I am a chef with 10 years experience in the kitchen, and close to 25 years in hospitality. We took some family who were visiting from interstate, and... Well we were not impressed. There were four of us, and we ordered in two pairs. The waitress asked if we wanted the food sent out together, and we said sure. We ordered a steak sandwich and a pizza on one docket, and a super salad, a pizza and a pizza bread on the second. My steak sandwich arrived first, quite promptly, and I nibbled on some fries while I waited for other peoples food to arrive. After a few minutes people encouraged me to start my meal while we waited for theirs... glad I did. After 5 minutes my wife's pizza arrived and she started on that. We had both finished our meals by the time, after another 20 minutes the pizza bread from the other docket arrived, but not the rest of their meal. The pizza bread was undercooked, and very doughy in the middle. We returned it and they promised to send a new one as soon as possible. 10 minutes later, and one of the two meals (the pizza) from the 2nd docket arrived, along with the recooked pizza bread. Another 10 minutes later and the salad arrived... without the advertised pumpkin, beetroot or walnuts. Keeping up still? 40 minutes between meals arriving on the table, despite "do you want them to arrive at the same time". And after all that 2 out of 5 items returned for poor preperation or missing items. The front of house staff were great, they were apologetic and sympathetic to the issues. They arranged a round of drinks and a refund for the salad with half its ingredients missing. I was told that the problem was "The head chef is away and the chefs are super swamped". There were 16 people in the restaurant, and that is NOT swamped. It had been a year or so since I had visited Siren, and with kitchen issues this bad will most likely be at least that long before I risk going there again.

A year ago Siren had the best pizzas - unique and packed with food and flavour. But over this time the quality has deteriorated. Tonight I decided to try them again after several months. It has turned out the most tastless disgusting pizza I have ever tasted with next to no topping, even ths sause was scant with wide margins of bare, dry dough. The dough has changed so much and tastes awful. Great pity and as I really enjoy the atmosphere of Siren

They dropped our fish and chips on the floor. The batter on the fish was disgusting, the chips weren't bad, the rest of the meal was pretty good. The drinks were lovely, Jack Daniels always is! The staff were friendly and helpful apart from being a little clumsy with our meal.

Have been coming for years. Ever changing menu, love the brownie but my favorite thing is the oopsie daisy cocktail <3 I wish the breakfast menu was all day, delish!

Awful. We usually have a lot of patience with hospitality but this has to be said. Went there for breakfast with a table of 6. Turned up and had to clear items from the table. The menu is quite bland, with repeating items. It was 1030am, they explained they had a busy morning and had run out of bacon and could do plain ham instead. Then also mentioned later they were out of their potato rosti and orange juice. There was zero effort to compensate for the changes. The woman serving was slow and quite rude. It was not busy and they had 4 floor/bar staff on. Maximum of 10 other customers who were mainly already served. Waited 45 mins for burnt, terribly poured, way too hot coffees. Food came out sporadically an hour after ordering with missing items and when they brought the extras out there was a hair on the plate. The ham was literally poorly chopped up deli ham. Terrible/zero customer service and will not be returning. Dont waste your time or money.

Came in tonight with my wife, son, and his girlfriend for a birthday dinner. We all enjoyed our meals immensely. Every plate went back empty. Desserts were also very good. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Well done!

Went to Sirens twice this week! Loved the atmosphere and the food! Had the Sirens salad with chicken for lunch Seafood platter for two for tea! Could not fault either!

Siren has a nice atmosphere, food was ok, but trying to get a drink at the bar was another story. Bar was not packed, on each time I went up I was the only one waiting or one of 2 people. 3 staff behind the bar and no one appeared to be serving... every time I had to wait while they spoke or did other things and then each time was looked at with annoyance by a bar tender and a “ are you right?”.
Sherry Dakin
Great food, atmosphere and staff. Highly recommend.

We had the seafood shared plate. The seafood was beautiful and fresh, thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the lovely service. Thank you for a lovely night!

After being told on the way in by either an unhappy patron or an internet troll brought out of his natural habitat that the food was awful, we ordered the $12.50 schnitzels and a Sydney Cider each. It didn't take long for our food to arrive and honestly was the second best schnitzel I have ever had (that wasn't homemade and the only one that was better I believe I have put on such a pedestal the same as Marshall puts his favourite Burger in New York) Well played against the Patron/Troll, Siren Bar. Well Played.
Sharon Green
Stood around at the bar for ages to get served. Two people behind the bar and not busy but neither commented that they were in the middle of something and would be with me soon. Stayed for an impromptu dinner. The $12.50 schnitzel that my partner had was ok. I ordered the haloumi with rocket salad and figs. 5 pieces of over grilled haloumi on a few pieces of dry and wilting rocket and 3 tiny slivers of fig. No dressing. All for the ridiculous price of $17!! I took it back and will never eat there again. Canberra needs to stop being so pretentious and offer good quality food at reasonable prices. Siren shouldn't refer to itself as a restaurant unless it wants to serve restaurant quality meals to go along with its restaurant prices.

A friend n I bought the pork pizza tonight. Horrible - tastless - yuck. We could not even a slice each.
Renee Conway
Absolutely beautiful meal last night and fantastic cocktails. Thank you Edwina For your exceptional service, re arranging, fitting us in, and making everyone comfortable. Xx
Mishaal Thivy
Food was really quite good, however I think $23 for 3 prawns is a bit ridiculous. I did mention this to the staff who just shrugged their shoulders which was not a very good response.

We have lived in Gunghalin for a year and now regret not going to Siren before! From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by really friendly staff. Indy our waitron was awesome, she made great recommendations and we never had to ask for anything. The food was fantastic!! When we were done they even put ice in our take away seafood box to keep it fresh great attention to detail! The chocolates with the bill rounded off a perfect evening! REALLY IMPRESSED!
Milan Santrac
went there to celebrate trump getting elected, great beer, food and music.
Suzanne Barnes
Something for the whole family on the menu, not overpriced and great fun at the "other end" of the day when you are out without the kids!
Kylie Kemp
When we arrived there wasn't a table available, however the gentleman who approached us advised that someone wasn't due to arrive until 1 after our arrival and we could sit there. The cocktails were made promptly and delivered to our table. On a free table becoming available the gentlemen again approached us and provided us first preference. Great service, good cocktails would definitely go back again.

Great food and ambience. Friendly staff who pay attention

Awesome food, really friendly staff. Couldn't be more happy with this place

True hospitality and a genuine family atmosphere. Thankyou Edwina and all of your staff for looking after us.

Went there on Saturday night. Normally have a lovely time however, this time my 2 friends and I (all female) were abused and threatened by 2 men. Staff did nothing. Bouncer said he spoke to them but allowed them back in and still allowed them alcohol. Great responsible serving of alcohol, not to mention giving a damn about 3 older women being abused

We rented an area for a party. The food was really good (and there was heaps of it) but the staff really made the event! They were super helpful and everything ran really smoothly because of them.
Belinda Williams
Love their pizza and tapas, great selection of wines, great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner with you tonight. Would like to say a special thanks to Indi for looking after us. She was amazing!! Can't wait to return.

I've been staying at the abode for work for a week now and have eaten there nearly every day. Food has been sensational and service exceptional. Dan and the team helped us with an awesome night after our grand opening. They went above and beyond what they had to so we had a good time! Thanks guys

Consider this a complaint. I ordered a beer at Siren Bar and was told it was $9. When I checked my receipt, I had been charged $9.30. I queried this and was told the bar has a policy of charging .30c for every EFTPOS transaction. This is robbery. I also noted Siren had an ATM machine installed. So, Siren Bar makes a profit off of the ATM machine, a profit off of the alcohol and also thinks it's OK to make a further profit off punters who use their card. And this in an age where Australia is moving towards a cashless economy? Blatant robbery. We've just moved to the Gunghalin area, but will never set foot in Siren again. Young and Frisky will be the place to go.

I went to the Wine dinner and had a really great time. Thanks to the bar and kitchen staff every thing was great.

Had a bday dinner tonight Staff super helpful with cake and all drink food requests A good nite had by all Thanks

Great food, wonderful service.

I love my potato wedges like everyone else but when you get a full plate of wedges and a thimble of sweet chilli and sour cream? Very disappointing.

Trendy tapas bar with tasty food. Been a couple of times for food and shared a bunch of tapas for the table - all were pretty good. Calamari really tasty, as is the zucchini flowers. Pizzas were good. Nice bar just for a drink as well. Went to a birthday party here and hired out the balcony area - heaters kept it warm enough in winter. Overall, pretty nice place.

Food was good but service was slow for a quiet day. The menu was good enough to cater for varying taste palatte. I wish there was some sort of enclosure on the boundaries to wade off wind chills.

It used to be a fun place with good food. It was always slightly on the expensive side but you got a decent fare for the price. But sadly the food quality had become worse on our following visits. They have happy hours on weekends which will probably still make it worth a visit but don't expect great tasting food.

Siren puts on a great variety of pub style pizzas without daring to be too different, however, in remaining safe siren manages to master what it knows in the pizza world without really standing out from the crowd and offering anything new. <br/><br/>I definitely recommend their pizza and pint each Monday for $15, it is something that you can't really beat in the canberra food scene. <br/><br/>Some of siren's meals lack flair and flavour, but I guess when it comes to pubs you take the good with the not so good/bad and for the price it's acceptable. <br/><br/>For the more daring pubgoer (is that thing!?) I'd also recommend the seafood chowder, it's something different and definitely not something you get at your standard Australian watering hole. <br/>

Came here for Sunday brunch - orders were taken at the bar (which is the norm here, I think). Our coffee orders were mixed up but was sorted, although I doubted that I was given a strong latte. Decent serving but price was probably priced dollar or two over for the quality. My eggs benedict didn't have enough hollandaise sauce. Pancake was a bit dry but compensated with a stack of bacon.

Complete let down!. My family took me to Sirens for a Mother's Day surprise! I was really looking forward to the beef cheeks - my first choice, only to be disappointed to be told that they had ran out! I then selected the lamb shanks as my second option, only to be told again that they had also ran out of them! How can a restaurant not provide two of their most popular main dishes, especially on a day such as Mother's Day! Had I known, I would not have gone to this restaurant! I heard two other customers also ask for the beef cheeks after me! What a complete and utter let down!
Angsteve1960
Terrible meal. Just had dinner at the sirens restaurant and I have had some bad meals but this one was one of the worst. We had steak and prawns with salad and chips for two people.<br/><br/>Now this meal comes out on one plate and the steak had to be cut by my husband. The prawns had no taste whatsoever and the more ton bay bug was tasteless as well. Sauce didn't come with the meal so we had to ask for that. No sauce for the prawns.<br/>Chips were nice but for $69 I could have had chips from mcdonalds.<br/><br/>It took 45 minutes to get the meal. Meat had no taste at all.<br/><br/>Wouldn't eat there again unless you go for chips only.

I fell as though I would have got a better cocktail at McDonalds

Toblerone Cocktail. A favorite desert cocktail

Breakfast. Friendly service, delicious egg and bacon wrap with plenty of filling. The coffee let it down though and as thats my favorite part of breaky I don't think ill go back. Look forward to trying dinner though.

Dinner. As a seasoned traveller i have eaten every where from Kunnarra to Phillip Island to central NSW Murray river and every where in between, after a while you get to know good service from poor service ,good food to excellent food <br/>The Siren bar has always delivered excellent food ,great service and the best floor and bar staff. This place is a GEM . The blogs stating pork belly should have been cooked longer or service was poor. I have NEVER found this to be the case<br/>The food is one of the reasons I stay at the Abode next door.<br/><br/>All I can say perhaps the reviewers that have made comments have not had much experiance in eating at quality venues

Don't get the scrambled eggs. It's more of an omelette.
Notarealfoodie
Satisfactory but noisy. More of an 'ok' than an ecstatically enthused. The high ceiling makes the room very echo-y, meaning it is hard to hear when the music gets going. Limited choice for vegetarians. Service will be slow (during the dinner period) when busy.
Ruby505
Good place to hang around in gungahlin .. Near to home .... Much often it's hard to go civic on weekends so siren bar is best option to have something near to home ..

Overpriced for what is served. I feel it's still trying to work out what it is. Tapas bar? Gig bar for bands? Nightclub? Restaurant? Wine bar? After work chill? You can't do them all well siren. Choose

Absolutely terrible. Wait staff were rude and nasty. Food was so ordinary. Zero flavour and what seemed like the ore packed meat. Extremely disappointing. We've been here quite a few times, and nearly every single time it's been horrible.

Dinners are awesome, breakfasts are disappointing. I have shared many meals, both intimate 2 people dinners and group events and have had so many lovely times at Siren Bar and Restaurant. The food is normally amazing and the servings are as expected with a restaurant of this caliber. <br/><br/>However, on Father's Day this year (2013) we went for breakfast with my family and I left pretty disappointed.<br/>We were seated at our table with menus, but we weren't told that there was no table service for breakfast. So we waited quit some time before finally we went to the main counter to ask for a waiter to assist us - it was at this time we were told there was no table service.<br/>Further, our meals were extremely disappointing. I ordered the Big Breakfast and asked to have my bacon replaced with baked beans (I'm currently meat free). I'd say that the best part of my plate was the baked beans.<br/>My father (who is quite easy to please and enjoys his food immensely) ordered the Extreme Breaky. This comes with "eye fillet steak" according to the menu. Unfortunately, this piece of steak was mostly gristle/fat/sinew and was still mooing on the plate. Now, both my father and I like our steaks rare - but this was barely warmed through.<br/><br/>Further, when using our entertainment cards to pay for the meal, we were not given the full discount (25% off the total bill up to $35)... another disappointment.<br/><br/>In conclusion - although I would recommend Siren as a restaurant of an evening, and even a really awesome place to hang out with some mates for a few drinks after work/on weekends, I would not recommend this place for breakfast.

Delicious. Cant rave enough about this place. For a quick catch up drink with a friend, a delicious dinner which I would rate as very high quality or an ideal work function venue this place has it all. The food is excellent and the service is exceptional. We just keep going back. Congratulations to the team.

Breakfast has been terrible everytime I go, dinner is ok but slightly overpriced.<br/>Cocktails are delish but very pricey!

A dozen family members. Food was spot on and service from Matt was excellent. A great night all round!

Disappointed. I don't normally write reviews, but felt it necessary to note my most recent experience at Siren.<br/><br/>I have previously been a few times and unfortunately in my opinion it just hasn't been the same since my first visit which was amazing. However on my most recent visit I was very disappointed. There must have been a mishap in the kitchen, it took far too long for our meals to arrive. Unfortunately it wasn't just us, there were numerous tables waiting for their orders, one table which was seated before we arrived actually walked out. I must note that we did receive an apology, but to wait 1hr for a wrap and burger for lunch is in my opinion too long.
Kristy
Terrible!!!. On a cold wednesday night me & 5 other women went for a catch up dinner. When we called to book a table we were advised that they were having a Spanish themed evening with a new menu. On arrival, we were not greeted or seated by any staff instead we had to walk to the bar and ask where out table was. After waiting 10 minutes and being ignored by all staff members as they were too busy standing/dancing near the bar, a staff member finally gave us the menu and walked off.. after waiting another 20 minutes we asked if we wanted drinks and took them another good 15 minutes to bring out the drinks. We were then finally asked to order our mains and desserts. The waitress did not know anything about the food and was completely lost. As we had to make a few alterations to our food due to the dietry requirements the kitchen was not properly notified. We waited about 30 minutes for our mains to arrive. After finishing our meals there was even more of a wait to get our plates cleared and have dessert. <br/>Towards the end of the night a lady who seemed to be a manager figure asked how everything, we told her our problems of waiting and abolsutely despicable service. Her response to it all was "at least the food tasted good and we will take a few dollars off your bill.. take it or leave it." She spoke in a very aggressive and rude manner and made it seem like it was our fault. Throughout the night everyone saw her walking around the restaurant with wine so who knows.. maybe it was the alcohol talking. <br/>Overall, the service and staff were absolutely horrible and rude. They know nothing about customer service and the fact that the customer is always right. The waiting time for meals was beyond long and the food in general was average. THIS PLACE IS RUBBISH.
Ilbaretto
Unreccomendable Restaurant. My partner and I had dinner on a Thursday night. While we were greeted warmly and treated with decent service, our night was promptly ruined when our meals arrived. The entree was adequate, however our main meals were not up to a reputable standard. The side dish of mashed potatoes was served ice cold and proved completely inedible. The corn that came with our other main was indisputably off, which was disgusting and unacceptable. When we were discussing our issues upon leaving, one of the chefs proceeded to visibly curse us for complaining. He even went as far as to gesture with his middle finger in plain sight. We were appalled and disgusted with his behaviour and the quality of food. We will never again dine in such an unprofessional and unwelcoming environment. We do not recommend anyone try this restaurant as the service is average and the food far below par.
Beema41
The promise of a nice quiet location is soon spoilt by the obscenely loud music & dreadful bar service by staff who would rather banter with their mates than serve. 1st & last for me!
Eat Love Move
Second Visit. Came back fo for a second time and it was still average. The cocktail I ordered, ''Oopsie Daisy Maisie'', apparently won an award in a local cocktail competition, however I have no idea why. It wasn't to my taste, or anything special for that matter. <br/><br/>The bar service was efficient, yet we had to wait 20 minutes for our order to be taken for our late lunch. Unfortunately the Champagne Risotto didn't even have an inkling of a Champagne tang to it, which I was really hoping that it would. Upon seeing some of the dishes come out of the kitchen, I will definitely be back to try the Sirloin steak, Chicken Parma, Vodka Infused Fish (huge!!) and their varieties of Taps. My main mistake of the afternoon was clearly my meal and cocktail choices.<br/><br/><br/>-----24 Apr, 2012-----<br/><br/>A quick drink. Siren Bar is the newest addition to Gungahlin's nightscene. The cocktail I ordered on one occasion was average, however there are many more to try on their list. I haven't eaten here yet, although when I do I'll be sure to check whether there will be live music on or not. The acoustics of the establishment itself is ill-designed, as the place isn't huge. Every single time I've been here, the loud volume at which they play/deliver music is a huge turn off if you want to have a conversation whilst enjoying your beverage.

I dined here on Sunday night with my friends. We all found it to be really relaxing and the staff were very friendly. We got seated straight away and offered drinks and menus. We ordered from the tapas menu followed with the pumpkin risotto the fillet steak and the parma. The food was beautiful. Great night out.
Butterflywings_pdt
Firsttimecustomer. It was my first time dinning at this place and it was also the last .<br/><br/> Afetr my friends and I had a look at the menu, it took about nearly 20 mins until the waitress came around and took the orders. <br/><br/>I had oysters for entree which was very nice and fresh. Then the main course which was seafood salad, first I could feel that something was missing on the plate, then I had a look at the menu again it supposed to have scallops and clamari in it but there were none only lettuce leaves (lots) prawns and salmon. The explanation from the waiter was they ran out of scallops and calamari!!!and he was sorry that happened and would take it of the bill and that's it. I didn't continue eating, I asked the waiter to take it away because apart from missing scallops and calamari, the lettuce was very bitter. I dint not enjoy it at all.<br/><br/>During the night there was no one came around for service even offer second drink, I finished my first drink before main meal was even served. <br/><br/>I didn't have any dessert neither as my friends becuse I couldn't wait to leave. It was no value of money for this place. I'm not going back there again and I would never recommend it to anyone.

Siren Bar and Restaurant has posted an advertisement on Facebook for a three course Valentine’s Dinner with what I thought was a pretty superb menu at a decent price ($150 for two, including a cocktail each on arrival). After my remarks about how good it looks, Boyfriend does the romantic thing and rings and books us a table. He’s offered an early sitting (6ish) or a late sitting
Eat Love Move
...two thirds of the entire establishment had been booked out for two seperate parties. Not sure whether this is great for business or not, as we were limited as to where we could sit for the afternoon/evening.
Tales Of A Confectionist
After being dragged away from my comfortable bed at an ungodly hour (weekends are meant for sleeping in), I demanded retribution and got TimmyC to buy me breakfast for driving him to the other side of town so early in the morning. I had recently heard the radio ads for Siren bar and restaurant that they do breakfast, lunch and dinner and it has been a few years since I’ve last been there (see my previous post here). The only thing I really remembered from my previous visit was that the kitchen was closed by the time we wanted to order our desserts and I left disappointed, but this time we were there bright and early and ready for breakfast.
Tales Of A Confectionist
After such a wonderful start with delicious tapas, the mains by comparison were very disappointing. I would come again just for the tapas and maybe also be lucky enough to get a dessert next time?
