Every time I have Dinner at Nilgri’s I am super impressed .. Thankyou - dinner was superb
Cauliflower , eggplant and Barramundi ... Vanessa and I couldn’t decide which meal was better —- all magnificent !
Excellent, Unique and Authentic Indian food, at its best.. Seafood was outstanding, loved the Quilon Fish Curry.. Keep it up Ajoy and Meera..
A classy set up which makes you feel at home and stay cozy! Nilgiris is very beautiful and the owners are the brownie points to this place. Very warm and friendly people making you feel very comfortable. The food is unbelievable for the way it's curated and is sure to blow your mind away!
They have a variety of food nothing ordinary. The flavours linger in your mouth for long and your taste buds are in for a treat! I loved everything on their menu, from the starters to the main course and the kulfi, droolworthy!!
Go to this place if you want to satisfy the feeling of not having had good food in a while and you won't regret the choice!
I've been coming to Nilgiri since they opened in Crows Nest - it was my son's first day of walking and he's now 21. I came last night with a girlfriend and we left beaming with joy and plenty of time before our movie started. The staff are really friendly and the food is still so different, and amazing. The beetroot samosas and house-made paneer were spectacular. Not a cheap night out but worth it for an occasion.
This was my review from 5 years ago at St Leonards location:
The food here never disappoints. The service has levelled up since our last visit a couple of years ago - little serving flourishes at the table. Our drinks were on the house because I mentioned it was our anniversary when booking online - a lovely surprise! Thank you Ajoy and team, you continue to outdo yourselves.
Nilgiri's is steps above your typical Indian restaurant. What I love about this place is the amazing staff who are so attentive and serve with the biggest smiles. It makes you want to come back. The food is delicious, I've had a few of the Tasting menus and they always ask me if I want anything topped up at no cost. A great place for a date or to take the parents when they're in town :)
I’ve been going to Nilgiris since I was 15 years old, and it has never disappointed. The new establishment at Cremorne is a labour of love, and it is evident in the quality of the food. Fresh, innovative alterations to the menu are made regularly depending on the season so there’s always something new to look forward to.
We consider this the best Indian in the area. Very impressed by lamb shank. A bit surprised by the green samosas but they are packed full of flavour. Cheesy garlic nam bread is heaven.
I and my friend went there recently. We ordered the tasting menu. It was amazing! Just what we needed. Staff is friendly as well. Still can’t get over the taste of the food!
Fantastic Indian curry. Easily the best I've had in Australia. The veggie dishes rank alongside the non-veggie. We're always well looked after and regular changes in menu keep it fresh. My favourite place to eat out in Sydney.

Mention Nilgiri’s on your social media and you’ll likely be showered with positive stories: “My colleagues highly recommend this!” “Ajoy is the MAN! Nilgiris in St Leonards when it was there was one of THE best...” Surviving nearly two decades in the restaurant game, and in its third location, you will now find this Indian stalwart on Military Road, opposite the Hayden Orpheum. It's a light-filled corner spot, decorated rather simply with large hanging lights, each fitted with an Edison bulb, a wall of custom cartoons, and a bicycle laden with shiny silver tiffins. The aromatic scent of toasted spices swirls around the full dining room and we begin to salivate without even having seen a menu. Ajoy’s wife, Meera Joshi, leads the smiling, efficient floor team, who seem to get our Pappadums and Dips ($7.50) onto our table the second we decide upon the well-priced Non-Vegetarian Tasting Menu ($48/head). I don’t think I’ve tried...
Nilgiri's is not your average Indian restaurant. What is done with the food here is a cut above the rest. Even in well-known dishes, spice mixes or ingredient combinations can surprise. Take the samosas with cabbage... super tasty but quite unusual. The raita tasted wonderful, though we could not put our finger on exactly what gave the special flavour. We also enjoyed the coconut chutney with the papadums. My wife really enjoyed the soft naan. The goat was tasty, tender and fell off the bone. The lamb pieces too had good spice - we thought we could taste some clove... very yummy! As noted by many others, the butter chicken was also fantastic. All of the food was served with the non-vegetarian banquet meal. Food was served at a good pace and service was very friendly and efficient. .... We shall return!
As other reviewers allude to - really is a cut above. Food excellent and service to match. Personal favourite was the smoked eggplant (coming from someone who would typically steer away from eggplant) - although everything was delicious. Strongly recommend.
Consistently great, really fresh upscale south indian food with a menu that changes seasonally. Having been here a few times, we are never disappointed and always impressed with the complexity of flavours and freshness of the ingredients! A definite winner!
An iconic Indian Restaurant! Historically our initial experience with Nilgiri's many moons ago was at St Leonards, North Shore, they had nights for different regions of India and absolutely fabulous. Now they're currently in Cremorne it's more intimate and the service was great and the Head of house Meera such a lovely woman. We had the Tasting menu and very happy with the offerings.
Undoubtedly one of the best meals in Sydney , the credit goes not just to the finger licking food and service by the team but also the hospitality and warmth by the Ajoy Uncle and Meera auntie .Indian food world over is going thru a transition where popular restaurant cuisine is being replaced by a lesser known yet more flavourful regional Indian cuisine .The restaurant does and has been doing it with aplomb .We had the tasting menu at approx 62$ and were left in a food Koma .if you have not been here already...you are missing out ,oh and they have these fantastic cooking classes that teach you a meat and vegetarian dish ,don't forget to book one .Thank you So much for a wonderful evening .
Wow - just shared the 2022 Winter Menu main courses of chicken, lamb and cauliflower (and accompaniments) with some friends - speaking as a regular …… THE best ever from this lovely restaurant.
