This place has the potential to be great. There are not many pubs in this area and with a little bit of focus (better quality ingredients, better balance of flavors) this place could do really well. I had a fish and chips for lunch here today, and whilst it looked good, the fish could be fresher, and the chips taken a little further. Prices was fair for what you get and service was friendly.
I actually quite like this pub. The food are somewhat better than the average pub if you know what to order. On the last visit I had pizza of the day which got very nice sausages. On several other occassions i had burgers and fish and chips here as well. And from memories they were all good.
Standard pub with fairly traditional menu. I went for the fried cuttlefish with Asian slaw. The cuttlefish was perfectly cooked and really fresh. The serving of slaw could have been a bit more generous but that’s a minor criticism. The Parma also looked really tasty.
A good ol laid back watering hole that serves up pretty decent food for the locals. The service is pretty good and staff are friendly. I recommend the pizzas and Parma which is huge even the small size.
Nice place to go for lunch and a drink before the football. Away from the throng of crowds.. but still close to the ground and just 10 Min walk from Richmond station. I had beef brisket burger. Others had Parma and pork schnitzel. All happy with food.
Great place for relaxing with a beer and some chips, pizza, or a Parma!!! It’s all good and the staff are chill. Always enjoy a day, night, drink at cherry tree
Great beers on tap and food to match. Out of the way, in a good way. A good spot for food and beverage that’s above the competition in the area.
Went for the Wednesday steak night and at $18 I was dubious. Ended up being the best steak I’ve had in a very long time. Cooked to perfection and the pepper sauce was perfect. Potatoes yum and the rocket salad was tasty. Good wok!!
Solid, without being amazing. Always interesting beer selection. Staff could be more enthusiastic about it though.... Food is nothing special but usually does the trick. Nice place to have a few in the sun.
Well tonight is the Cherry Tree Hotel’s steak night. Potentially an absolute steal at $15 for a scotch fillet with roasted potatoes, steamed vegetables (or chips and salad), and a pepper or butter sauce. It’s quite busy following the earlier after work drinks rush (there’s a huge buzz on Friday nights especially) which is a good sign.
The other good sign is the presentation on the plate, with a certain brightness and shine to the potatoes and vegetables, which taste as good as they look. But we are here for the steak, both having chosen medium-rare. Medium-rare is the steak lover’s go-to when ordering at a non-steak restaurant for the first time. It is the same as making sure you shallow dive in a new pool, even if you are sure you’re at the deep end.
Hallelujah! The steak is medium-rare, and the scotch fillet is a good cut, with reasonably consistent tenderness. I’m pleased and already thinking about the numerous occasions I’ll be able to catch up with friends around the corner for a good quality $15 steak. Having let the dust settle the next day I texted Chef for his rating out of five and his four didn’t surprise me for a normal person, but for Chef to give a four means this is far more than just your average cheap pub steak.
