We usually get delivery, it's one of the best Indian food places we've tried in Sydney, but going in was really lovely! The space is really cute, and the service is wonderful. Will deffo get over there again soon <3

Fabulous food, the goat curry is amazing and they love what they do. Even though a long way from Pymble it's worth the drive.

Glorious food, my absolutely favourite place for curry! The goat curry is absolutely epic, as is the palak paneer. These guys also make a brilliant chai.

Not typical South Indian taste or flavour in the cuisine
Sambar and chutneys were very small in portion not even for 1/2 Dosa you can have it with this portion

Another authentic Indian place with many south Indian and Sri Lankan dishes. Food is at times oily but if you ask them they will ensure less oil. Very hospitable and polite hosts. We only did take aways so don't know about wait staff

An old time favourite. I love this joint. Its one of those places that leaves you (or at least me) with the conundrum of deciding what to get. I will say, I love there summer special goat curry (it better be back this summer or else... I'll get something else)

The only Indian/Sri Lankan restaurant at Croydon, this place boasts a wide range of food for both vegetarians and non vegetarians. We ordered the chicken chettinad and the paneer butter masala. Both the dishes were amazing. Though the servings are quite small, they were enough for the two of us! Definitely lived up to the positive reviews it has on zomato. The service could have been better tho! What also struck me were these collection of teas that they have. Something I will definitely have to go back to try!

Will not dissapoint! Great classic dishes. If you're in the mood for great Indian food in a very nice atmosphere and don't want to deal with traffic or parking or insane parking prices (like the city) HSB is the place to go. Level of service and staff attention was outstanding. I felt like I had time warped back to the good old days when we were brought complimentary Papadums and dips and the staff service was friendly and genuine.

This was our first visit so we went for the good old favourites: Butter Chicken, Rogan Josh, Dahl Mahkani and Garlic Naan. We were even given the choice of the level of spice in the dishes of mild, medium or hot. The serving plates were piled high and the portions sizes were more than adequate for two. With a glass of wine each and side of Raita our bill was around $40 each and worth it for the whole experience.

There are a couple of different dining areas, we sat in the front but there was another at the back which may have catered for larger groups. Many of the patrons seemed familiar with the owner/staff so I assumed regulars which is always a good sign. The crowd seemed to be family, 30s and above working professionals, more than young singles but since separate dining areas anyone would be happy.

Reliably great Indian!. We regularly have dinner here and it never disappoints the food is consistently of high standard and very authentic. The samosas, vindaloo, chicken chetinadu and dosa are all highly recommended. To finish my meal I can never go past kulfi of any flavour! And I love the complimentry papadam!

My husband and I celebrated his birthday here last night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My colleague recommended we try Hotel Saravanna Bhavan years ago when he found out we liked dosai, he said it tasted like back home in Kerala. So we of course had to order the dosai. The dosai was light and crispy - just right but we felt the filling could have had more flavour/spice. Not the best dosai weve ever had but tasty nonetheless. We we're blown away by the Jaffna chilli beef it was an interesting mix of hot and sour flavours in light curry paste - tasted wholesome. The Darjeeling chicken - sizzling mustard seed marinated chicken was also delicious, reminded me of sizzling Chinese dishes with a South Asian twist. Service was flawless from start to finish. Very attentive, friendly and just seemed genuine. Raj who I believe is the owner let us know about the high tea they now have and we're definitely keen to try it!

But where's the bar?. Confusingly, in spite of its name, this restaurant has nothing to do with a hotel. In fact it is a BYO restaurant. But a very delicious array of South Indian and Sri Lankan dishes await you at this restaurant in quaint and sleepy Croydon. And if you fancy more traditional Northern Indian, like a butter chicken, you won't be disappointed.
The restaurant is handily located walking distance from the train station, 30 paces from a public car park and across the road from a wine shop where you can pick up your bottle for BYO.
We commenced our meal with a Masala Dosai. It was delicious and served just as it should be: crisp on the outside, lightly spiced tender potatoes on the inside and accompanied by 3 delicious sauces.
Then it was on to the mains. We picked from the evening's specials menu: Pineapple Lamb-sounds sweet but it wasn't sweet or savoury, just right really. Also the Hot, Hot Chicken curry which we had not so Hot, Hot. (Vivak, our waiter with the longest eyelashes I've ever seen, pointed out we could have all our dishes: hot, medium or mild.) We opted for Medium.
We also selected the palak paneer as we have to get our greens. The paneer was delicious-obviously made on the premises.
We completed our meal with rice and naan. The naan was fluffy, light and not greasy.
We couldn't go past the home made desserts. However, I would say that this is where the restaurant needs some attention. The pistachio ice cream was rock solid, needed more time to thaw and way, way too much cardamom. I couldn't really enjoy the pistachio. The earl grey tea ice cream, also needed some time to soften. And ask the chef to ease up on the honey and cinnamon because again, it overpowered the delicate flavor of the ice cream.
Will we go back again? Yes we will.

Fantastic, really really flavoursome Indian food. The best I've eaten in Australia! Every dish tasted authentic fresh and delicious. Great choice of veg and non veg dishes including goat and fabulous dosai. Upstairs rooms elegant and spacious. Service friendly and helpful but food was slow to come. (I hink we got a new waiter on his first night ;) definitely going back, an instant favourite.

Sarvana Bhavan is one of my favorite south indian restaurant chains. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough - they have an excellent variety of food and it is very authentic. My friend and I had their Mysore dosa and paratha with korma. It was really - it is mildly spicy but I really like that. It is also very reasonably priced and there is no service charge.

A decent authentic Indian place! Has all pretty much all the popular vegetarian dishes from south India and some north. A tiny bit expensive but worth it as it is not easy to get good authentic Indian food outside places like East ham and Southhall in London. Their filter coffee is the best! Must try. Ideal place for Indians or foreigners to treat themselves once in a while. Nothing is too spicy here for Indians but it should be a tiny bit more spicy for the British people.

Very nice south indian vegetarian food. It was the first time we tried this restaurant and the staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was very quiet as people are still staying away from town centres and restaurants etc.

This is a good place to bring vegetarians to (their meat dishes very good too). I've only encountered annoying vegetarians and so i steer well clear of vegans. I remember telling African children that lived in absolute poverty what being vegan meant and they didn't understand it.

Out of all Saravana Bhavan's I tried in London, this one stands tall but shame they have consistently failed in service department. Located on busy George street, it is very easy to get past this place without really noticing the restaurant as it has really narrow opening and unappealing feeling from outside. I've been there lot of times with family/friends/alone and it never disappointed me in taste. Food is served with stainless steel plates which enhances the feeling of eating south indian food. You can watch Tamil/Hindi video songs played on big flat TV screen(often without any sound) and always occupied tables but I never had to wait to be seated though. Dosas in this places are must try, Idli, ghee pongal, Puri, North and South set meals never disappointed. But my all time favourite South Indian Filter coffee has always been Hit and Miss with either too much milk in it or not hot enough etc etc. I truly wish they hire or train the current staff to serve better!
