Tried this place a few times now- always good service and great food. Really like it here! Have tried several different dishes but like the sweet and sour fish in batter. ☺
My Rating: 4.5
Wealth Garden serves good old no fuss Cantonese cuisine and traditional Yum Cha style with trolley service.
Wealth Garden previously used to be called Purple Sands (before 2016) and many years before that, I'd say prior to 2011 it used to be called New Panda Chinese Restaurant.
Have visited this place on-off for past 15 years, of course rotating around with other neighbouring yum cha restaurants, but my family would often return here because the atmosphere is more relaxed.
Out of all the Yum Cha restaurants within the Doncaster vicinity, Wealth Garden is the only one that does not have a set time limit for yum cha service. You can stay as long as you need and not have the feeling to have to rush and eat in a hurry compared to other's that only allow 1 hour or at most 1 hour and 15 minutes if you're lucky!
🔆LOCATION🔆
Wealth Garden is located in Doncaster Road, near the corner of Wetherby Road. It has it's own private car park for customers however it's not alot of space, probably allows for about less than 20 car spots.
🔆SERVICE🔆
Customer service from staff is very relaxed and laid back! Most can speak Cantonese and are very warm and welcome especially when you speak Cantonese to them.
Hot water is topped up promptly for your tea.
Sometimes trolley service for the dim sum can be a bit slow, so if you know what you're after then flag down a waiter/waitress and have them put in the order for you. Because we normally do that and that speeds up our wait time and can have more variety on the table faster!
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
I wont comment on the price as I dont remember the small, medium, large, premium dim sum costs. We just order what we like to eat during Yum Cha and the staff check's the box on the docket according to the category each of the dim sum!
My recent visit we ordered the following which are some of my favourites. Of course if you go with more people then better opportunity to order more variety to share!
Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun (Lao Sha Bao)
Prawn Rice Noodle Roll (Har Cheong Fun)
Prawn Dim Sum (Har Gow)
Prawn and Pork Dim Sum (Siu Mai)
Chicken's Feet (Fung Jiao)
Fried Crescent Dumpling (Ham Sui Gok)
Steamed Beancurd Roll (Fu Pei Guen)
Tofu dessert with ginger syrup (Dao Fu Fa)
🔆VERDICT🔆
Service is simple, restaurant decor is old and dated like its back in the 90's but we don't care. Just here for good old traditional Cantonese Yum Cha! The dim sum's are quite large sizes much bigger than you would get at other Yum cha restaurants so its definitely good value for money. Also in particular I like the Ham Sui Gok and Fu Pei Guen. The Dao Fu Fa, I always order when I go to Yum Cha, a really nice way to end the meal.
Highly recommended! They have the friendliest staffs. Food was good, standard pricing. I enjoyed yum cha here very much, will definitely return! :)
Great quality Chinese food with steam fish fresh and a stand out, the pork ribs is also meaty and tasty, and tow miao vegetable is great and plenty. The kampong chicken is fabulous with lots of meat and tasty, one of better restaurant for tender kampong chicken. Great desserts with sago sweet dessert. Justin, manager and owner will definitely take care of you with great service and food.
I was in Doncaster for yum cha the other week, price is so so but the food were really good there were lots of variety and heaps to pick from, there were quite alot of people though so definitely need to book the next time we come.
We might have found our new local “go to” yum cha restaurant! It’s getting harder to find a trolley style yum cha restaurant other than the big guys. We tried this local and we’ll be back!
We went as a family of four and experienced the friendliest service we’ve ever had at yum cha - and we’ve eaten lots over the years!
The trolleys cane consistently- no food drought abs no bombardment. We finished everything we ordered. It was tasty with some of the best rice noodle rolls with prawns ever (though the pan fried gyoza style dumplings were a tiny bit on the oily side). Sauces to match, cut in half to share, really lovely service!
We ate our fill and left with a bill of $108 for the four of us which seems to be very reasonable these days!
Can’t wait to go again - just watch out, the carpark gets very full!!!!!!
Fried pork intestine is a hidden gem here, even better than I've had in China. Very crispy skins and creamy inner entrails. Mud crab taste delicious, noodles underneath are even better. Again, don't waste money on those deserts... Free fruits are always good though.
Arrived around 9pm, but no problems getting served- friendly staff and great service - food was also very good! Will definitely go back earlier next time, but very good!
Been here twice for yumcha and ordered a few different items, they taste fresh and healthy. For example, they have a steamed rice flour with chinese kale and tofu, fish ball dish with some veggies in it and battered fish in bite sizes (I know it's not that healthy but better than calamari). They don't season their food heavily. What I really liked about this place is their service is great, waiter/waitress are very attentive, they fill up your teapot without having to ask them to do so. We were also not rushed into finishing our food. The dining here is very pleasant and enjoyable.
I must be too hungry when the food came and I realised I didn’t take photos of my other dim sims.
Wealth Garden is our fav yum cha place cos we think SK is pretty average 👇🏻👇🏻 now...
I have been visiting this restaurant since it was named as Purple Sands, New Panda .. and currently as the Wealth Garden.
👍🏻👍🏻Dim Sims are very authentic.
My favourites are bbq pork buns, prawns dumplings, Prawns siu mai, steam beef ⚽️🏀, Deep fried white bait, steamed meat loaf with tofu sheets, Tofu desserts...etc!
👎🏻a bit pricey -Yum Cha for two costs us $7x
