The food was faultless, the service was great and the wine menu was sensational. Highly recommend this little gem.
My go to bar in Melbs when visiting from Sydney. Briney Bay is my fave cocktail in Aus. š
Recommended by a Melbourne local to give this place a try. And am I glad she did! This little gem offers an amazing menu. Recommended anyone travelling to Melbourne to make this place a priority.
Donāt let the spray painted sign out the front deceive you. Itās now a wonderful wine bar. I must say I embarrassed myself. They said if you can give the table back by 8:30 we could have a seat. I heard they didnāt have a table until 8:30! We walked out and when I was informed of my hearing problem we came right back.
The highlight of course, is the wine list. The best thing is the āsurprise meā wine by the glass. Itās actually just a way for them to give you something to match your food with and try something different. I didnāt get the impression they were trying to get rid of the bin ends. Beyond that, the wine list is pricey, but extensive. The waitress was most pleasant and a delight to chat to.
The low light, is literally, the low light. There isnāt much light inside!
Food wise, they have a few dishes that Iām guessing rotate. For entree we had the buratta. Highly recommended. It was very nicely presented. The other dishes we had was sunchokes (aka artichokes), green salad and the short rib. My only complaint is that while everything tasted fantastic, there wasnāt a whole lot of meat on the short rib. It was about 4 pieces of meat, and then two other chunks of mostly fat.
So a good little neighbourhood find. Again not cheap and not a daily diner, but a good place for a nice dinner without going OTT.
Best service, wine list, service & atmosphere (retro tunes). Unpretentious and enjoyable. Please donāt go because I want it all to myself. Donāt forget to try the aged Comte at the end!
We came here for some food and drinks after work on a Thursday evening. We didn't have a reservation but were seated immediately. We ordered the mussel dip, bucatini and xo pipis to share. The food was refined but not lacking in flavour. I thoroughly enjoyed the food at Bar Liberty and the service was efficient too. They also have a nice selection of wines.
Bar Liberty is my favourite wine bar in Melbourne. A sophisticated wine list complimented by a seasonal menu by a culinary master known as Casey Wall. Truth be told I've never had a bad dish at this venue after numerous ammounts of visits. Unlike other wine bars around town, they really don't miss a step.
Sunday lunches here are pretty neat, good value for money. It usually starts off with really good sourdough bread with charcuterie, snacks, mains then finished off with dessert. Highly recommend!
Great food, great service and good ambience.
The the tempura vegetables scallops and the beef were all exceptional out of a huge selection of dishes we had that were all excellent.
The wines and spirits were fantastic and worth indulging on, with experienced knowledge providing great pairing advice.
Only let down was the time between entries and mains, but honestly we didn't care.
Don't be fooled with casual decore and dress of staff. The food is what you are there for.
Bar Liberty doesnt stop to amaze. Beautiful wine list combined with easy super tasty food.
Go on Sunday lunch! 8 dishes for $45. So much value! No better place to go to with friends for an easy boozy lunch on Sunday.
The experience I had in Bar Liberty was nice. The space was actually quite small, around 4-5 tables? So it was cozy. You would be surrounded by hundreds of wine bottles, enticing yourself to order something to drink. The wine selection was good, there are bottles from different places in the world aside from Australian ones. The food was creative and good. My favorite was sourdough flat bread and homemade butter. However, every dishes we got were on point. The flavors were interesting, captivating. One negative point for me was the food was a bit over-salted - personal taste. I need to add that it is a tapas, serving type of bar so do come with friends. There were long gaps between dishes, I didnāt like that as I was very hungry. However, it would be a nice time to chat and drink if you have company since this is a bar after all.
Bar Liberty doesnāt take itself too seriously, judging by the word ālibertyā spray painted over the old signage, or maybe this is a sign that it takes itself too seriously ā itās hard to distinguish the difference in Melbourne.
Great night with amazing food & wine - the set menu was perfect and the snapper & steak within that were the highlights. Dark horse was the cabbage dish which was beautiful
Be aware, the reason for the 3 stars was the awkward & cheeky way they take payment & tip. Their eftpos machine makes it hard to not choose a tip option & the staff watches over your shoulder as you pay. Also charged us for sparkling water even though we didnāt ask for it.
Probably wouldāve tipped anyway but the way they go about it leaves a bad taste in your mouthā¦
Great wine selection. Great service. And the food, satisfied with every single dish we ordered. Will definitely come back.
Amazing value with the set menu.
Well done with the pork chop - both succulent and flavour.
I would've giving more stars if I liked eating vegetables

Was really happy that there were so many vegan options when I asked, but slightly disappointed that 3/4 options for the entire/mains were so oily. Still a great dining experience, if not a little loud at times because we were so squashed.
Definitely will come back!
A hidden gem in Collingwood that will pleasantly surprise you as it looks like a bar but is actually a fine dining restaurant that not many know about. Well priced and excellent service as always means I will be back again & again!
My partner and I booked our anniversary date night here on June 26th after a recommendation of my close friend.
We had the set menu as well as fresh oysters and we were so impressed!
All of our dishes came out at perfectly timed intervals and all plated so delicately. Our favourites included the Pickled cucumber, Raw beef with walnuts, and Baby Barramundi with kohlrabi.
Our wait staff for the night were very quick to attend to our wine top ups :-)
Had an absolute blast at Bar Liberty. So many flavors.. I had many favorites and couldāve kept eating.
From start to finish, wonderful execution of the food. And service was impeccable.
2nd night out of lockdown but you wouldnāt know it, this place operates like an extremely well oiled machine.
Creative menu. We had the set menu which started off with delicious snacks - the torched kingfish was blow your mind good. Great balance of flavours.
Moving onto the entrees - the venison tartare and soft curd were beautifully presented and were absolute winners as well.
Unfortunately the let down came with the main - the steak and potatoes were very salty (and I love my salt!). Steak was also over cooked for me - medium to well done.
But happily it ended on a high, just as it started, with the delicious dessert of date cake and clove custard.
Service was faultless.
