Came here with a Groupon voucher long time ago and never wrote about how wonderful the food was!
Nice atmosphere and beautiful menu to enjoy with friends.
Love the space and location! Coffee is good depending on who makes it. Would love to see them do well. Heard comments from locals "they need to spice up their food - roast tomatoes could do with some herbs sprinkled on top", "eggs of toast could be made a bit more interesting - just add some herbs and coriander", "ingredients could be fresher - avocado a bit old".
Love this place and want to see it do well. Lots of potential.
An absolutely gorgeous modern pub serving beautiful dishes with great produce and modern twists.
We loved the melt in your mouth steak & chips and the grain salad was the best I’ve had with the roasted cauliflower being insanely addictive (also paired perfectly with a cheeky bit of thick cut bacon added in!)
We will definitely be back to try more from their inventive menu!
Quiet, warm and welcoming is the best way to describe this establishment. Having my son with me in a bassinet, I needed a place that had little space and was relatively quiet and Duke of Kerr was perfect for it. Upon walking in, I was greeted with a warm smile and was offered a seat in the bar booths. There wasn't too many people around despite it being a quiet Sunday, beautiful weather and the local Fitzroy primary school having a local market place open.
This was a really great location to just chill and relax at and would definitely go back when we're back in the area. The coffee is nice and strong as requested, the almond croissant was warm & delicious and all within a l cafe that had a great ambience about it coupled with great service. Till next, this is Our Foodie Find.
Melbourne’s Fitzroy never fails to surprise with its eclectic range of new Melbourne food spots, and Duke of Kerr is one to join those ranks. What makes it special is that it’s a classic brunch spot with the facility to also provide a dinner menu – my special highlight of the night being their unique, beer sponge cake, which definitely left me craving for more!
A friend suggested we visit the Duke of Kerr seeing as It was a short walk from her house. I had the grain salad which was very good. In fact everyone enjoyed their meals. I would say that they aren’t trying to do anything spectacular with their presentation and their concept seems to be simplicity, which would lead me to believe that they are consistent too, but I will have to come back to test that theory. I did want to try the mushroom dish but was put off by the 22 dollar price tag! Far too expensive I felt. Coffee was good and service was friendly. A good cafe and a front runner in its immediate area. Would definitely recommend.
The people of Fitzroy are so lucky to have the Duke of Kerr as their local. If I lived nearby, I'll be having dinner here at least once a week.
We started off with a mimosa, 3 mushroom and truffle croquettes with blue cheese dip, prawn toasty on housemade brioche and the octopus on toast with nduja and squid ink mayo (side note: squid ink does wash off your clothes). I loved the presentation of all three 'small-ish' meals. For mains we had the pork belly with brussel sprouts and chestnuts. This meal looks like autumn, the colours and presentation was as good as the flavour combination. The chicken breast 'coq au vines' felt like I had this meal in a previous life, it was delicious and a great portion size. I were on the cusp of being full however we wanted to roll outta here so ordered the chocolate parfait with mandarin and hazelnut and the amazing ginger beer cake with poached pear and caramel sauce. Try the desserts yourself and let me know what you think 😍😍😍😍
Thank you Duke of Kerr.
Came for brunch on a quiet Wednesday and loved the location of this cafe which is in a lovely spot in the back streets of Fitzroy. With ample seating, the corner cafe is open to the breeze by big windows which makes the place inviting. Despite having a small menu, there is a good variety of dishes both sweet and savoury to suit everyone. Many dishes sounded enticing and although I was going to opt for the 'Pretty fly for a white rye' with hot smoked salmon on Baker Bleu rye with dill, pickled zucchini, salmon roe and crème fraîche, I changed my mind following the waiters recommendation of the Scotch Woodcock with scrambled eggs with sourdough and gentlemen’s relish.
As I waited for my food I washed down a coconut milk latte (which went down too well) and a pot of jasmine green tea. My meal was delicious and well balanced. I liked the saltiness which the anchovies lent to the dish and the Gentlemen's relish was surprisingly savoury (I was expecting it to be sweet) and really added a complexity to the dish which worked very well together. Overall food, service and coffee was excellent. My only complaint would be that there was no music on for the majority of my time here which made the place excruciatingly quiet! Whether it was a technical issue or not, I would have enjoyed my time more if I didn't have to hear the word-for-word conversations of the corporate group next to me!
Nice place. Lots of potential here. I’d give it a 4.2 if the app would allow it. First off, it’s a lovely spot in the back streets of Fitzroy. Open to a gentle breeze on a warm March day, it was idyllically lovely inside and out. A great place to be. The brunch menu is small and that’s not a bad thing. I chose Give it a Nudge which was lovely. It has ndaja (look that up like I did - non meat eaters beware), beans, peas, mint, broad beans and a poached egg. I had it with seeded toast not sourdough in light of the Harvard research about health and whole grains. This is a very nice dish. I’ve never quite had it’s like before. It has a rich and interesting flavour with a little bit of bite. I was assured it was large enough on its own without an extra. In the end, the size was ok. Credit to the sever for not upselling. My accompanying or starting Bloody Mary was superbly made. As good as I’ve had anywhere. Service was a bit uneven throughout here. Very good at the start but it tailed off several times as the otherwise very pleasant server took a mobile phone call and was otherwise distracted from his prime role when people were after attention. That was really the only slightly negative part of the experience. The good was very good and the drinks are good too. Great location as well. A few small tweaks and this place could really excel and move upwards swiftly.
Read the positive reviews and decided to travel up from Elsternwick to see what all the fuss is about. Turns out it was well worth the 30 min drive. Excellent venue, friendly service, great coffee and genuinely interesting food. I had the black pudding which was definitely of Yorkshire/Lancashire standard and my wife had the Give it a Nudge, which included the spicy spreadable salami called nduja
Looking forward to trying out the dinner menu thurs-sun
We had a few happy hour drinks and then shared a couple of snacks and a burger.
A fantastic relaxing bite. The drinks were great and service fast and professional.
Will be back again with my wife soon.
Small place with a smaller menu but what they do, they do very well. Great coffee and tasty food at fair prices.
Consistently good food, chilled atmosphere and friendly staff. During summer we really enjoyed their Caesar salad which was exceptional. Breakfast options are also great. Magic Mushrooms with a hash brown is a great choice. They also have quite extensive specials :)
the place is beautiful. the people working there are really friendly and the cheff knows what he is doing!! i love the coffe.

So happy that these guys have opened in our hood! It's like the all star cafe team - St Ali and Duchess of Spotswood! Have been coming here since they took over the boring old cafe that was there before... Amazing breakfasts and lunches. Dinner is always spot on too. The service is relaxed, friendly and makes it a place that you just want to come back to again and again. As a local, I've found the other places in the vicinity to be overpriced food-wise - however these guys are spot on for value! Can't recommend Duke of Kerr enough!
