We discovered this restaurant last night due to a voucher. What a lovely find: the service was lovely and friendly, the food was very good and the ambience great. We have already made reservations to return. How lovely to get the gift of a little glass of Limoncello, thank you. :)

Went here with a mate tonight to try it out based on uniti in Australia recommendation. The spritz was on point and the baccalà was very good big serving and couldn’t get through all the polenta lol. Definately worth a visit

We ate here with a scoopon deal - excellent value for money for 4 people. The food was excellent along with very good service. The menu was good with lots of options for vegetarians. We would come back here even without a scoopon deal as the prices were very good.

Very impressed- we came for a mid week date night and no complaints. The waiter was excellent from the moment we walked in. Serving sizes were large and the quality was exceptional. We finished off with two Affogato’s - the thinking “persons” dessert - coffee , liqueur and ice cream ..all in one !! Give it a try !!

Note that thefo0die.com rating is a 3.5 but in Zomato's rating system, it is closer to a 4.

Fo0die dined as a guest of Al Metro and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.

Opened since end of November 2018, the dad and son duo are hoping to bring a bit of Venice (where both were originally from) to Melbourne through their venue Al Metro. We arrived at the venue on a Friday evening by tram (route 11) from the CBD.

Great authentic Italian food. Seafood was perfectly cooked, pasta on point. One of the best papardelle al Funghi I have had. The bruschetta is a lovely balance of meatiness and freshness on a bed of crunch, will be back

Last week while visiting some friends in Melbourne we dined at newly opened "Al Metro" in Fitzroy. As a group of 10 people, we ordered two 1 metre antipasto share plates and two 1 metre club sandwich share plates. Drinks: two bottles of a beautiful Prosecco to go with the antipasto platters, some glasses of white and red wine to go with the mains and few beers as well. The food was absolutely fantastic, the antipasto platters had several varieties of freshly sliced cold meats, super-tasty buffalo mozzarella, four different varieties of pitted olives, a traditional italian potato salad called "insalata russa", and much more. The club sandwiches are a must try! One club sandwich generally feeds one person, on a 1 metre plate there are 4 club sandwiches. Up to 4 different types per share plate, and although these were generous bite sizes we were literally fighting over the last portions, that's how good they are. We also tried the home made lasagna and one of the pastas on the menu, and they were simply delightful to say the least. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Also worthy of mention: no expense spared on the decor! Great job! 👌 As stated under the name of the venue, this is an Authentic Venetian Osteria. In fact Massimo and his staff managed to deliver an experience that really made us feel like we were in Venice: the friendliness, the warmth of the service, the lovely authentic accent (Massimo and his family actually are from Venice), and then of course the traditional food complemented by the beautiful wines from the Veneto region! We just loved it! Do yourself a favour and check them out, it's really worth it!

Being of Italian heritage I generally choose to enjoy my Italian food at home (nonna's meals are very hard to beat), but at Al Metro I must admit I found a place that really does make me feel home. The hand-picked Italian wines from the Veneto region are a perfect match to the wonderful Venetian food, served by an ever-friendly staff that really know how to make this place a very special one. If you are after a true Italian food&wine experience do yourself a favour and visit Al Metro, I would recommend it to everyone and yes, I have been dining here at least twice a week since it opened. 😋 In photo: awesome "Squid ink gnocchi with prawns" and a perfect matching wine ➡️ Soave DOC Corte Adami

Popped into Al Metro last night with the family. I was keen to see what this new Italian restaurant had to offer and I was very impressed. The four of us shared 2 entrees: the Parma - Prosciutto Crudo, Mozzarella di Bufala, Pizza Fritta, rocket, and the very flavorsome Calamari Fritti with choritzo. Both entrees were a hit, with the kids loving the pizza fritta - small pieces of fried pizza dough. The linguini di mare and the eggplant parmigiana mains were delicious with heaps of seafood in the linguini, all at a very reasonable price. the desserts were yum. We highly recommend this place.

Lovely authentic food, service was great in a casual relaxed atmosphere. Every dish we had had so much flavour and was presented beautifully. Would recommend Al Metro for tradition well cooked Venetian food!

We ordered the 4 different pastas to share between 4 people: Carbonara, La Matriciana, i Tagliolini and Papardelle. Before the pasta even came out we were given massive chunks of freshly heated bread with a dipping bowl of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Then the pasta. The Carbonara is authentic and one of the best I have ever had (and I lived in Italy for 10 years!). The Tagliolini were special too. Pricing was more than reasonable, meaning it won’t stay a well kept secret for long.

The food here is excellent and the staff were lovely, however the atmosphere is a bit odd. We went on a weekday evening and they were blasting 'club' tunes ranging from Aqua's Barbie Girl to early 2010's hip hop while people were trying to have conversations over the amazing food and wine they offer. It was quite empty (maybe four other tables occupied) and I'm not sure if that was one of the reasons why - but if they eased off on that I think it would be a lovely place and I'd definitely come back!
