My favourite independent cinema in Melbourne. I’ve seen dozens of films here over the years. Fantastic selection of indie and foreign films, as well as blockbusters, film festival screenings, and events with filmmakers. The bar is great for a pre-movie drink, and always decorated in a fun way for one of the current films — I loved the recent The French Dispatch wall. Well-priced yummy popcorn and other movie snacks. Cinema Nova also has amazing staff who always go out of their way to sort out any issues!

Great cinema and bar. Art-house and European movies. Have been here many times....The bar is excellent! Spanish style with beautiful atmosphere, drinks. Had a delicious mulled wine in the bar last time I visited. Such ashame the food menu is limited nowadays.

Lovely setting, divine little Bar and very comfortable cinema seats. Staff could not have been more accommodating when I accidentally booked front row seats instead of the back row as I thought I'd done. My only issue is that the escalator mostly goes up and whilst the staff will stop it and reverse the direction, I can just manage to get down the stairs (albeit very slowly) once the patrons eager to get out and into Brunetti's next door have gone ahead. A second escalator or a lift would be the icing on the cake.

Love this cinema, so cosy, clean, always a large variety of good films on that aren’t necessarily playing at bigger cinemas. Well worth going to- also tends to be emptier earlier on weekdays (as would be expected) if you like less crowded movie watching experiences!

Great seats, good selection of snacks and drinks. Comes with a 2 hour parking voucher for the car park underneath. Great selection of films often not available in the bigger cinemas.

Hidden in Lygon court, elevated above brunettis cafe, sits a bodacious and passionate cinema. Nova hits film screenings that are new, films that are old, films that aren't found everyday, films that create joy well beyond you even arrive. Inside a cozy and intimate theatre, the seating is comfortable and warm (even goes as far as couch seating inside). Would it be easier to visit a village or a hoyts? Probably. Should you? No.
