While strolling down Glenferrie Road, an unassuming French bakery caught my eye. With images of croissants in my mind, I walked in without any hesitation. As I dropped in 15 minutes before closing time (sorry for being THAT customer), there weren't too many choices left and I only had the option to takeaway.
Almond croissant and baked cheesecake in one hand, and a skinny latte in another, I bid the super friendly and chatty barista farewell and went off to enjoy my goodies.
Munching away, all I could think of was wow, the almond croissant was amazing! So flaky, very buttery, much delicious! The baked cheesecake was yum too. The buttery crust held together very well, and the cheesecake layer was smooth and creamy. Great flavours too!
The skinny latte was quite hot to drink, but cooled down to become a decent brew. Not bad but not great, but who really cares when I just want to return for the sweets?
This place has a delightful array of authentic French cuisine. All their pastries, sandwiches and cakes are lovingly prepared fresh each day.
The ultimate highlight is unquestionably the almond croissant. Each bite takes you closer to food heaven. The layers of buttery, crispy goodness just warms the heart (and clogs the arteries). Their products are consistently made to sheer perfection.
The coffee is outstanding. They also offer weekend high teas if you have an occasion requiring French cuisine indulgence.
If you want a taste of Paris, spend your air fare money here instead!
What a lucky FIND...This little French Cafe is truly a hidden treasure. We had amazing pies! (I had the beef and my partner had the chicken). If you are a PIE LOVER you definitely have to try this cafe's pies!! WOW!!WOW!! WOW!! Real buttery pastry so delicate, flaky and exquisite! Chunky beef (real beef pieces not pretend little bits). We had the pleasure of dining in with ( we think) are regulars. Very friendly environment full of happiness the host (a lady who spoke French) was bubbly and very polite, the Chef comes out as well and brings your food (if the wait staff are busy). I recommend to book as it can get busy at lunch time! Try to make room for dessert or take an Almond Croissant Home... Worth a visit if you are in the Malvern Area. Will definitely come back to try out the French Onion Soup!!
I work over the road from Lilette. Each and every Saturday morning I look forward to the best quiche Lorraine in Melbourne and a hot café latte to get me started for the day. Totally divine freshly baked cakes and pastries to die for and beautiful friendly staff who know their customers personally and provide the most lovely service and French atmosphere.
It’s not often that someone’s lauded for their flakiness, but when that someone’s producing the kind of croissants and pies that Lilette are, I’m sure they won’t mind one bit. With each bite of their almond croissant, I couldn’t help but wonder how this unassuming cafe seems to have flown under the radar for so long. The natural question you’re going to have is whether their croissants are better than Lune. In my opinion, the issue is moot as both are 100% delicious and you’d be splitting hairs over personal preferences at this level.
A hidden gem located around Malvern, Lilette offers a range of delicate french pastries. I managed to find this place on my last day of work and couldnt pass up the sweet treats on offer.
Staying true to my name, I got the black forest cake($8) despite the slight eyebrow raise when ordering as it was 8am. The cake was well balanced with the chcolate sponge moist from the cherry sauce and cherries studded within the light whipped cream. The chocolate flakes covering the cake added texture but wasn't too sweet. The serving size is quite small, especially when you consider the price tag, however I do think it was a well thought out size as it is just right, as a bit more may have become a bit too rich.
The interior isnt fancy but feels very cosy and cute with bits of feench decor hung about here and there. The lady whoe served me was very friendly and cheerful and even brought my cake to me!
Overall a great little cafe to drop by if you're in the area, although it can be quite pricey.
Good coffee and great food. Staff are really nice. Coffee comes out quick. Food can come out a little slow but it's worth the wait. Good atmosphere.
Outstanding in every way! Staff, food, lay-out. I come back week in and week out and will continue to do so as often as I can. Food is impeccable!
Unpretentious authentic French café that serves simple but delicious sandwiches made from quality produce. At first glance, the menu doesn't look like much and the ingredients seem too simple to be any good but boy, they absolutely work! Will definitely be back to try the baguettes next time.

Chef in this cafe is king and his wife Queen.
Simple French bakery delights with great coffee. Regulars greet each other and the whole environment has a friendly air of contentment with the world.
Those awful things we read in the daily newspapers are outside and foreign to this safe spot that offers yummy cooking with a smile. No gimmicks, no latest food fashion.
Omelettes, macaroons and gateaux =OMG.
Friendly cafe couple owners. Authentic French pastries you would love it. They serve very good coffee too!
Enjoyed the plum pastry with custard. A bit pricey in comparison to other french bakeries.
There is nothing I love more than a café with great service, a welcoming atmosphere, and high quality French pastries made from love and hard work. This combination is hard to find, which is what makes Lilette so special. (The apple tarts are a must!)
