I mainly came in for a tub of gelato and they packed so much into it that the lid wouldn't close and stuck to it a bit...but I can't really call that a bad thing, along with fairly low prices it made for excellent value. The gelato range is limited and unadventurous but done with a lovely smooth creamy texture. Then you have two counters worth of other sweets, I only got to the cannoli but they were lavish.
Greek treats are good. Sometimes hit and miss with the freshness of fruit on tarts. Greek coffee could be stronger. Some staff are fantastic and others don't even smile.
Nice greek treats. Coffee a bit weak and pricey for what you get. Gelato nothing to write home about but several of the cakes are yum. Service is friendly
Its always a pleasure to come here and be welcomed to local friendly faces. I tried one of their greek specialities for the first time. It looked like a greek lasagne but had penne and minced meat underneath the crunchy layer. It can be bought hot or cold to heat at home. It was delicious and had a unique taste to it, when compared to Italian pasta dishes.
Prices were reasonable. So keen to try all they frozen cakes esp the nutella ones!! Although i tried the nutella baklava it had a subtle nutella taste :(
Hellenic Patissiere and Gelato Bar is my go to place for traditional Greek biscuits, pastries and sweets. They are as good as you get in Greece. Everything is reasonably priced, you can eat in and all of their non-Greek sweets are also darn good, especially the cannoli (pictured). #hellenicpatisserie
This place has been around before i was born :), has been where it is next to Marrickville station for the last 35 years and 5 years before that it was at the end of Illawarra road close to Marrickville road :).
The Girls behind the counter are super helpful and definitely make you feel welcome :)!! My friend recommended for me to come here for the Bougatsa, best in Sydney. It's a Custard Pie with Phyllo and ground cinnamon :D.
She warmed it up for me and no joke it was like time froze when i was eating it haha.. im a custard connoisseur and it tasted Amazing :)!!
Another thing that struck my fancy was a custard croissant they had surprisingly with no almonds sprinkled on top of it haha.. that's the standard these days for some reason. Almonds aren't kind to me so that was obe pastry i haven't had in ages so i scoffed that down to .. so good aswell :D!!
They got heaps more of greek pastrys and cookies :), I asked if they do coffee which they inclined but they said only strong Greek coffee in those "Copper Coffee Pot" :). So if you can't handle strong coffee you can always get your flat white, Soy latte etc across or down the road :)
Its open till late daily and is a local favourite since the old days :)! Its places like this that need to be open for a further 40 years :D!!
Lots and lots of tasty treats to choose from. It’s hard to resist buying one of everything but the sugar really adds up after 1-2 treats. Definitely recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth!
Huge selection of Greek sweets and pastries and a nice range of gelato too. Golden gaytime gelato was a little mild on flavour but the baklava flavour was beautifully sweet. In terms of pastries, I tried the baklava and galaktoboureko. The baklava was a little soggy, the galaktoboureko was delicious.
Service is always extremely friendly here, you are welcomed like family. Prices are also very reasonable. I will be back to try more of the multitude of options available, it's almost too hard to choose!
Lovely cannoli and almond Greek biscuits. It's best to buy the cannoli early on in the day, otherwise the shell gets a bit soft from the cream. Best flavour is still the original ricotta in my opinion, the others tend to be too sweet. The almond biscuits are a favourite of mine, very fragrant, fresh, and perfect with afternoon tea and coffee.
Located on Illawarra road marrickville, Hellenic is hard to miss with its massive blue building. There is both a cafe and a patisserie and gelato place behind. I got a strawberry sorbet which was refreshing. Service was friendly. There were some really cool Nutella cakes on display.
A family owned local business selling handmade biscuits, gelato and pastries. They offer a range of cakes for special occasions, a gelato bar, hot pastry section and some soft drinks. I tried the biscuits and yum, comes perfectly with a cup of coffee. The sausage roll and the beef pie were just average and a tad too salty for my liking. On another occasion, I came by the second time to try their gelato and picked the chocolate flavour for a sunny day. The gelato is soft and packed with milk chocolate flavours, however too sweet for me as well. Otherwise the service is great and they take both cash and card payments with no surcharges.
We once bought a big tiramisu cake from here and the portion was generous for its price, and of course, it was perfectly made with all the right flavours. This time we decided to buy a number of small cakes and they looked great on the high tea stand.
This Greek bakery is an institution and has been around for decades. Their koulourakia are the best with the perfect amount of orange zest. There is a huge selection of Greek sweets, pastries and breads. Their tiropita and spanakopita are also really good.
Best hot cross buns I've ever eaten. Raisins were clean and plump, orange peels were fresh and prominent. I ate 3 in one day... trying to hold back from a 4th. Curry pies and cannolis are great too.
What a great spot to enjoy some delicious treats - amazing cakes, slices, gelato for all tastes and likes.
The staff are friendly, welcoming and super helpful.
Definitely a place I will return to frequently.
First time here today by chance. A feast for the eyes and the taste buds. I wanted something savoury and sweet so I had a piece of feta and spinach pie and an aniseed and almond biscuit - wow so satisfying. I enjoyed it and would make the trip there again. - lucky I don't live too far away.
