It was the second time we dined here on Saturday night and the atmosphere, staff, service and food on both occasions have been very consistent. We are making this a regular restaurant of ours no doubt Thank you for always ensuring we have a pleasant night.
AMAZING service and food to die for!!! Wish I lived in Melbourne so I could eat here all the time
Every trip to Melbourne I try to dine at Piccolo Mondo Italian Restaurant! Its only 50 metres from my chosen motel on Lygon St and the waiter is very spontaneous and humorous plus the food is spectacular! I usually go with his recommendations and I've never been disappointed yet. Fresh whole flounder with veggies...... bellissimo! The flounder was so tender and juicy that I closed my eyes to savour the taste! Even the veggies were beautiful. A glass of Coonawarra red followed by gluten free chocolate cake just made the evening almost perfect: just missing the company of m'lady! 5 stars and highly recommended.
We went to Piccolo Mondo last night. The four of us enjoyed our pasta dishes very much. The service was excellent as was the ambience. Real authentic Italian food ! Will be back there soon .
My mum and I came across this place after she picked me up from uni and we decided to have lunch in Lygon Street. We were not disappointed. We were greeted warmly and instantly, with the waiter Francesco dishing out great advice in relation to food and drinks we may feel like having. He basically became best friends with my mum. The food was outstanding. I’d felt like seafood and Francesco had recommended the marinara. I’ve never been a fan but decided to give it a go. It was absolutely amazing! No tomato-based sauce that you generally see in marinaras from bigger restaurant chains. It was divine! I’m usually not a fan of mussels, but I ate everything on my plate. I was incredibly satisfied by the end of my meal, and the wine that I paired my meal with was to die for. One of the best meals that I have had in a long time and it was so nice to be able to spend it with my mum. Cannot wait to return!
Very, very fresh fish, you absolutely have to order their fish of the day if you visit Piccolo Mondo. Spaghetti Bolognese was piled high on a plate but I finished every last bit of it because it was just too damn tasty! Mussels in a red sauce was delicious too. 10/10 also owner’s super friendly haha.
Visited Piccolo Mondo on a Monday evening recently - welcomed in and shown in - very attentive service and a pleasurable evening - food and drink service was prompt and Frank provided some great recommendations. Fantastic food - will come again when in Melbourne.
I’m a Carlton local, so I tend to steer clear of the parts of Lygon St where the touts try to coerce foot traffic with free garlic bread. A New Year’s Eve hangover, a moment of weakness and a table in the sun suckered me in today and I’m glad it did, because it was great!
I opted for one of the specials; a simple and satisfying bowl of very fresh and plump mussels bathed in a rich tomato, garlic and white wine sauce, which had been amped up with some pesto. A side of bread for dunking. Heavenly.
There’s lots of seafood on the menu too, so I’ll be back. I never thought I’d say it, but thank god for the Lygon st touts (on this occasion).
Amazing atmosphere, with amazing food and hospitality. I had the bbq calamari for entree and the gnocchi Palermo for my main, and wow! It took me back to my Nonna’s house with gorgeous flavours and memories growing up. Cannot fault this place. Do not get sucked in with people who give you this and that to suck you in to eat with them...GO STRAIGHT to PICCOLO MONDO 🇮🇹
Looking forward to my next visit!
The first time I came here, I had the gnocchi with meatballs. They were both nice but not different to what you can get at other places and short of special. The second time I came here, I had the black spaghetti with seafood which I thought was much better. It's a big portion, the spaguetti with squid ink is fantastic and the seafood tasted fresh. It does not look like it in the picture but there's a decent amount of seafood hidden underneath the spaguetti! I like the older style decor here and the alfresco dining. Even in winter, it does not feel too cold because of the heaters they have. Plenty of seating available and the service is excellent even on a busy Friday evening.
Surprised by the relatively low rating of this restaurant as I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there.
We had the massive seafood platter which was filled with very fresh seafood and golden fried, followed by 4 different pastas and a massive hunk of steak. It wasn’t enough for my dining partners and so we rounded off the meal with a dozen oysters.
High marks for service, high marks for food.
We went in on a Monday night for a nice dinner. We were immediately greeted by extremely friendly waiter who accompanied us the entire evening. We ordered our meals and they came in record time. I recommend The fettuccini. We went on for our deserted in the excellently heated outdoor eating area. Honestly the best desert I’ve ever had. A Nutella mouse and a tiramisu. I highly recommend and I will visit hear every time I come to Melbourne.
