Review Sushi Hub Swanston - Melbourne

Angel Khong
Sushi Hub Swanston St offered delicious sushi of wide variety for both takeaways and dining in. The dine in area was nice, albeit quite small and only certain tables had access to the sushi train. Service was very prompt. It was great option for a quick casual dinner.

Nice sushi joint in a convenient location. This place had great deals at the end of the day. Picked up some salmon aburi sushi on the way home.

Good service. On our visit not such a big range of sushi on the train, but pleasant all the same.
Jason Tabrett
It’s always a quick and convenient location to buy from with fast service and also plenty of seating. But what I love most about Sushi Hub including this location is the freshness of their products. They offer true quality seafood and as you taste the prawn or salmon hand roll the difference to other Sushi chains is beyond comparable. I highly recommend an affordable meal at Sushi Hub!

It's my first time to experience the sushi train. It is really cool and amazing. Lots of choices to choose from and their sushi is really yummy! Worth it and will definitely be back again.

The food was good, the food was on plates on a continuous conveyor, if you was something that you liked you just took the plate off the conveyor. There was also a menu that you could order from as well, a full range of usual soft drinks and some Japanese alcohol - consumed on-site only. Pricing is dependent on what you eat.

Good sushi for a reasonable price. Staff were happy to move a chair around so our party could sit together. There is only 1 toilet but they're quick to clean it

Food was fresh and delicious! We did the sushi train but could order other things for the menu, service was great and ordered food always came out very quickly. Love visiting here for dinner!

3.5
Bought a mixed sushi pack today from Sushi Hub as was starving and it had been ages since I had eaten sushi (largely due to WFH for the past 3 months). The tray was actually so generous. Was able to share. I loved the Tuna which had a good
Texture and flavour. Several had lettuce within them which I’m not such a fan of but overall a nice mix
And served with plenty of wasabi, ginger and soy sauce.

PROS
often busy but never waiting longer than it takes to decide what you're getting. Fresh, delicious and broad variety of small dishes with my favourite being there selection of inaris and nigiris. Sushi train at the back. Professional and efficient service, clean and fresh. Everything I want

CONS
There should be an option of getting food on a plastic washable plate if eating in. So much plastic when I'm eating at the venue anyway. They have the plates from the sushi train area anyway.

FYI
There is a seating area and sauces etc available if you'd prefer eating in as I do. Try the seeweed inari or the ell nigiri next time you go. Lots of locations but I find the variety here better and the seating area is convenient. They even have hand sanitizer for after you've eaten.

After visiting museums I came to the 'Sushi Hub' on Elizabeth Street, one of six places of that Australian chain in Melbourne CBD. The place was rather small, but it had a good selection of Maki Rolls, Sashimi, Inari, Nigiri. Many people seem to come here for take away, but one can also sit down. There is Wasabi Sauce, Soja and Ginger à discretion in self service, mostly in small sachets.

Apparently this chain was started in the Asian neighbourhood of Cabramatta outside Sydney and now has over 80 stores all over Australia.

J’s score 3.75 stars. J got takeaway for lunch here on Sun 26th Jan. Service friendly and prompt. DIY soy and ginger. She had:

Sushi sandwich ($2.50) – Tamago, salmon, avo and lotso mayo. Nice but fell apart.

Unagi and tamago sushi maki roll ($3) - Really big, moist and tasty.

Vegie tempura nigiri sushi ($1.80) - Crisp, tasty, nice large piece of tempura.

At the end of my salad, I found there's a alive fly or insect or whatever! This is totally disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS ALIVE, STILL CAN MOVE 😭😭

This is a regular lunch spot for me. It's always crowded, and for good reason. They have an excellent variety of different sashimi and sushi that you can order as takeaway as well as a sushi train for those who want to eat in. I regularly buy the salmon sashimi, and it's always fresh. It would be great if they had a salmon/tuna sashimi option. The prices are very reasonable and even though it's crowded, the line moves pretty quickly. Will definitely keep coming back.

I love sushi hub, they’re one of my favourite sushi takeaways but i made a mistake of eating in at their sushi train and it’s not that good, really.

sushi selection was very limited and it’s honestly not worth the price. while i was eating the staffs threw away the uneaten sushi IN FRONT of the customers. legit, they brought a big bin and just threw everything in. not only was it wasteful but i thought it was just plain inappropriate.

other than that, it’s not terrible.

this is a spicy chicken cucumber roll I just order 15 mins ago, is really disgusting that this roll have a "unusual hair"❗ in it, is the roll maker go toilet and doesn't wash hand when finish ?❗?❗?❗ how could hub let this thing happen on a roll? Working whole day when I have my first meal and this nausea, disgusting thing happen. Destroy all my pervious feeling on Sushi hub. I want have any more sushi here.😡

I'm a huge sushi lover and Sushi Hub doesn't disappoint. It's always a great option whenever I crave for sushi/maki rolls. The scallops were fresh and the maki rolls were flavourful as well!

Follow my ig for more om and noms!
ig: vienne_iu

The sushi rolls are okay, the packs are a little bit better. This place always seems to be busy but I think it’s due to it’s convenient location.

Best sushi in Australia thus far! The quality is at such a high standard and the prices are so reasonable. I cannot wait to keep going here forever!!!!

Affordable, quick, high quality sushi and other Japanese cuisine. The sushi train is a great opportunity for a catch up with a friend before watching a performance at the Melbourne Arts Centre ☺️

Good place for sushi that is pretty cheap and good quality. A couple of vegetarian options. I enjoyed the tempura veggie inari and the cucumber and avocado sushi. The teriyaki tofu was a little salty.

Sushi Hub is located at the busy Swanston Street. There service is quick even when there crowds of people. Many good choices.

My favourite spot for aburi salmon! Sushi hub makes sushi like no other, may it be dine in or take away they make it so easy. Their sushis are always fresh, i would usually do takeaways on the go and they would pack it so nicely that it makes it easy to eat
Some Bunee Loves Food
A lot of variety on their sushi train plates and price is reasonable. I love those sushi sandwiches and cute abalone ships.

The rolls weren't too good the last time I got them. I got the raw salmon and the spicy prawn. Spicy prawn was really nice but the raw salmon was really chewy and I chucked it out as it was inedible.
The Wandering Reviewer
Woah! This place knows how to do sushi and anything else that is Japanese. An amazing display of food available and does a fabulous business in passing trade because the eye-catching food begs you to explore more. The variety of food is extensive - something for everyone. Prices are pretty reasonable. You can eat in or takeaway. The dining area is small but still good. Of course, the sushi train is amusing for the novice or for kids. Service is fast and staff speak good English - usually. If you're looking for something quick or 'on the go' then this is the place. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible although a little tight.

Pleasantly surprised by the sushi here. I only tried a couple of handrolls and a scallop nigiri which were fresh and super delish. Great variety and reasonable prices. Queue was quite long but moved fast as they had an efficient ordering & paying system going.

Space was quite tight but I appreciated the small sit-down tables along the wall. Would love to try sushi train here one day.

Can not fault sushi hub! Delicious sushi for very reasonable prices. There is a huge range to choose from and the flavours can be quite creative. For a fast food chain, the quality and freshness definitely aren’t compromised.

Take away is good but sushi train is a nice option too, all sushi are made fresh and you can order straight from the menu without waiting for your favourite dish.
Eylia
Standard, reliable chain. This outlet also stocks the spicy tuna roll which can be oddly hard to find, so I’m always on the look out for places that have it. Always a fresh, quick option at a reasonable price.

Early morning, sushi hub the best choice of my breakfast , before work grab and go . Easy . The customer service is good . And the sushi is great . And the price reasonable . Sure will come back Cheers

I’ve been on a food journey to try out all the sushi trains in Melbourne and I’ve come across this one many times on Zomato. They have so many branches in Melbourne so it must be good right!?

First impression, walking to the restaurant I could see a swarm of people at the front looking at the selection of nigiris and sushi. The selection at the front looked sooooo good. Especially the seared salmon and the sauces that was drizzled on top.

We came on a Saturday night and it wasn’t really busy. We were seated and we started picking our plates. This sushi train doesn’t have iPads but they give you a menu and you can select on there if you’re not a fan of waiting around.

The price is a lot cheaper than other places in Melbourne. Salmon nigiris are just $3.3 - and they also used salmon belly as well! The sushi here don’t seem too fresh tho. It feels like it’s been circling the place since morning. The rice was hard and the fish overall didn’t taste fresh.

Overall, it’s not the best sushi train I’ve been to however it’s really good for the price.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: my go to takeaway sushi place - always fresh and quick!

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: my favourite are the nigiris - the seared salmon, eel and scallop is my favourite! I also really like the different inaris they have. The sushi’s are also very affordable!

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: don’t go after hours as it may not be as fresh!

🥇Lizzie rates overall: you are left spoilt for choice as they have a wide selection of sushi’s!
Willtravelforfood17
A nice variety of sushi rolls and nigiri etc to choose from. Sashimi is fresh. Recently they have added salad bowls for $8 which is a great option for lunch. My favourite roll is the unagi and tamago roll!
Gee
Pleasantly surprised by this place. Sometimes when wandering past, it has a massive queue but on this occasion there was none. I went for a quick sushi fix and had the tempura prawn and avocado. It was fairly delish and I’d be interested to try the sushi train there.

The sushi is fresh. We managed to get a seat at the sushi train in a few minutes during lunch on a Sunday. We will definitely come back again.

I love the sushi!!! This is a perfect place for eat all the sushi do you want!!! Of course is a little expensive! So don't be so excited.. good flavour!

Been here for takeaway a few times. Great Westernized sushi on good days; YUCKY HARD RICE on bad days. I am unforgiving when it comes to sushi rice. Staff is welcoming and quick.
Billy
It's not even sushi. Sat at the belt and at least 75% of what was on it was cooked... Not a very authentic experience. Couldn't believe it when we ordered some takoyaki and it came on a bed of lettuce!! If you want a quick cooked tuna handroll with brown rice then maybe it would suit you.
E
Their sushi always looks beautifully presented. I grabbed sushi on the go, the temperature was almost on the room temperature side. Putting this aside, I couldn’t fault the taste! Staff are all friendly and keen to serve - too bad they didn’t offer soy or wasabi with my sushi takeaway. I’m so use to always being asked, I didn’t realise they didn’t provide any until I left.
Sam Watson
Consistently good sushi. Been there many times and never had an experience that deviated from that. The sushi is fresh and good quality. The price is not too bad depending on what you order. Give it a try if you’re in the mood for sushi.
Stephanie
Catering order and lunch.
Highly recommend this place for any workplace catering. Payment and ordering were a breeze, and all the food was prepared fresh in the morning just before we got there.
Fresh flavours and well cooked rice. Yum.

I came here before the footy at the mcg, I had never eaten there before and I never will again !
The few things I had were average and the spring rolls going around on the train were cold ! You can’t offer it fried but serve them pre done . The health inspectors need to visit this place . YUCK

the sushi here was delightful, the fish was really fish and the lovely asain lady was so nice on register she offered me more soy sauce and ensured i had a good experience, definelty coming back for more heheheheeheheheheheheehe.

Came here before the AFL as we wanted something quick to eat on the go and also something semi healthy. The sushi here is so so , kudos to the variety they offer and because its so busy it also taste quite fresh.

Great area and convenient to have Sushi. The restaurant always get busy and services still nice and sushi bar is so good and fresh food as well. Thank you :)

I’m pretty impressed by this little take out spot. Grabbed a couple of rolls and nigiri, and each one was fresh & delicious. Granted it may not be top grade fish, but at that pricing, it hit the spot.

For sushi in Australia, this place is very decent. The sushi train is ok, and the rolls out front will save you when you’re in a hurry for food.
Split The Bill
I've never had a bad sushi here, sushi had a good amount of flavouring ingredients to rice and prices are on par. My go to sushi is tuna or prawn with a side of ginger.
~Happy Neko~
It’s always fun having sushi train :) Not the best sushi train in town, the location is very convenient but the sushi are just average or above average depends what you get.

Not everything is made to order (even it says it on the menu)!! If you like you’re sushi freshly made either sit next to where they load the sushi or order something that not on the belt (the more expensive ones are more likely to be freshly made).

It’s cheap eat so great for casual catch up with free when you want variety :) But if you want high quality sushi train you need to look elsewhere!!
Sam
I found a good place for my favorite scampi so I am happy . They have so many varieties to choose from . I ate few dishes which were good & tasty .i will definitely going back again .

Now this review was based on one sushi roll I had in there but their teriyaki chicken roll was terrible! The chicken was too salty and it was dry and the rice was dry. I had to drink so much water after eating it.

Love to take away some sushis here for fast and quick meal or even just snacking. Love the sweetness of the Inari, or even the grilled unagi nigiri.
The Gastronaut
Located in a very busy location, this outlet pulls a large crowd. You can imagine why! I like the concept of Sushi train. The items look innovative and the presentation is terrific.
Alyce Campana
The freshest take away sushi I have ever eaten. I get this all the time on my work lunch breaks and I have even sat at the sushi train for a quick dinner.
Live_in_melbourne
Service was quick and attentive. Sushi is always fresh and delicious. My fav one is the soft shell crab roll, absolutly delicious. I like to come back dining here because there are plenty of seats. Also the sushi train was pretty nice to try.

E: Some people go to mass weekly to receive the holy gifts from God, but I've found mine right here at Sushi Hub. This place is arguably one of the greatest gifts to the entire world.

Sushi Hub Swanston is hands down my all-time favourite sushi-train restaurant and there is one distinct reason why: the Grilled Salmon Nigiri. This is something I bring people with me just to try (and change their lives) and you definitely should too. The blend of that grill with their special teriyaki sauce is absolutely exquisite.

In terms of the train, there is a HUGE variety to choose from, which makes this a great place for sushi beginners. I would recommend the baby salmon, tuna dragon, soft shell crab and salmon sashimi as some of my favourites. You can choose however many plates you want all at different price levels to suit anyone's pockets or hunger levels. There is also a menu available that also lets you order some udon noodles and hot soups aswell. If you don't have time to sit on the train, their take away hand rolls are HUGE!!! I would say up to double the size of standard sushi places' hand rolls yet only 30-50 cents more. They're also made right infront of you (and you can request this right on the spot) so you don't have to worry about them being sat in the window for hours before you picked it up!

In terms of service and ambience, I don't have any complaints at all. The ambience is awesome for those who've never been to a sushi train before and the restaurant is always well-lit for your foodstagram shots. The people who work there are always lovely and more than happy to take your order and make sure it's prepared freshly by the chefs who are right infront of you. It's not unlikely for the sushi chefs to hand you specially-made orders themselves either. I do have to send a shoutout to the staff member who felt horrible about accidentally throwing out my bottle of water (my mistake- I left it there after paying and leaving) and gave me a bottle of water fresh from the fridge to make up for it.

Food: 4.5/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5

Overall: 4/5

Wanted to come here for all you can eat but was only an August promo. Missed out! Anyways tried heir sushi train, was actually not bad. Went on a Thursday night so plenty of space! The abalone ones were delicious! You have to try is their specialty as only sushi hub has it! Their takeaway is better value for money, the prawn katsu, abalone and squid, and the lobster too. But the sushi train ones were a bit warm food than what I had in Japan. So that's a few ticks off. Service is good, but maybe on not-so-busy days.

I guess fast food doesn't always mean burgers and fries as a growing trend in the city is Asian food such as sushi, 'street food' be it Korean or Japanese and the like. I stopped at Sushi Hub for a snack and ordered a vegetarian sushi roll and a prawn one as well. Both of them were quite tasty with soy sauce and I would try it again. :)

Came here during the all you can eat sushi hub special. Very busy, but luckily we came at a good time ( not dinner period) not to be waiting to long in the line. The staff were friendly and competent. Food was great, really got my monies worth. Only issue was sashimi was not served constantly on the train and I had to ask staff to get a serving. There was also limited selection of dessert. Overall great experience, unfortunate I was so full when new items were coming on the train.
Flying Forward
Points for: takeaway variety, sushi train

One of the few places in Melb you can do sushi train, however don't expect crazy good quality. The sushi rice for the rolls and nigiri is rolled out by machine. The gunkan is overflowing with topping, but some with mixed with creamy dressing.
Not crazy expensive either so worth a visit to see what rolls by on the track.

Went there recently for their all you can eat sushi, sashimi and dessert for $29 and was super disappointed. I have been there previously and food was above average but I still would choose sushi hotaru to dine out. However, this "buffet" experience was well below par as many options they had was not pleasant. They advertised "all you can eat sushi, SASHIMI, and dessert" but it was not all you can eat sashimi. There was 3 of us and we once we were seated we were offered a selection of sashimi that we had to request as they had to write an order to the kitchen. We asked for another serve and they were super reluctant to giving it to us and it was super obvious this portion was much smaller than the first one they had offered. I have no issue with them not offering sashimi as they all you can eat option but please do not advertise it as so as one of us then asked for one serving of sashimi again and we were hit with "I don't think we can do that let me go check" and they never came back to either avoid confronting me we essentially don't want to give you anymore as that is the more expensive option. Sashimi aside, the scallop nigiri was super not fresh. It was sad looking and no sheen to it and their sesame seeds used for rolled rolls were not toasted and super unpleasant as it is usually toasted. And dessert selection was a joke - it was one choice so not really a choice anyways - honeydew mochi which was a big nope and it's so hard to not waste food when it wasn't that great ... Would most definitely not do the all you can eat option but no complaints on their their takeaway sushi. Found it super hard to eat $29 worth as I could eat $20 worth of food at sushi hotaru and be super full and satisfied with their authentic Japanese tastes

Staff are friendly and happy to serve you as fast as they can, food is pretty great as well, though with so many wonderful choices it's hard to choose!!
Hungry Hieu
A great place for a quick bite. We're usually tempted by the big selection of hand rolls flavours and delicious looking Inari on display so we normally grab a few sushi rolls on the way home. Service is as expected for a 'fast food' joint but efficient. Sushi flavour is good without needing to add too much soy sauce. Rolls are fresh and moist with good amount of fillings, although the rice and nori comes apart at times.
Sylv
The sushi at this outlet never disappoints me, the nigiri range would have to be my favourite. Would always order 6 or more when I'm on the go, they're easy to eat and practically bite size, flavours of the mayonnaise and/or sauces on the sushi are also very tasty. Highly recommend 👌
Hungry Jeweller
Good place to get a cheap sushi roll in a hurry. Good ambience and quick efficient service. Just sit down and pick up items from the conveyer belt.
Vina
The place is nice. I tried the sushi wrapped with the tofu (didnt know the name). It's good actuall. A bit sweet but it's good. I liked the texture of the rice.
Cynthia Giang
What to grab when you're on the run and need a pick me up. Sushi rolls were well seasoned with its rice, and the quick moving staff members attended quickly. Just an easy fix.
Simmyeats.Melb
Quite ordinary and very bland sushi rolls, I ordered spicy raw tuna and spicy crispy chicken. The texture of the tuna was disgusting and couldn't eat it so took it out. Crispy chicken was ok but very boring with only a tiny slither of cucumber in with it. On a positive there is an endless supply of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. I can confidently say that I won't be back here.
Luke And Hannah
Tasty, big chunks of sushi goodness. Skip the sushi train though.

We have been here mutiple times for their sushi during lunch time. The service was fast and very efficient while the sushi rolls and delicious and generous in size. They all taste fresh, light, and very tasty.

For some reasons, the dishes on the train line tell a different story. Most of them were pretty underwhelming, lacking sauce and taste. Some were served with too much rice, making them a bit bland and starchy.
Phuong Phan
Unbelievable. This place is super cheap and has a lot of varieties for you to choose!! Best thing about it is, you can grab yourself a good feed and fill yourself up for less than $8! I always get the lobster inari and abalone inari. Both highly recommended if you were to go here.
Bon Bon
I always like to have their sushi take away as they certainly offer a great variety and better quality sushi as compared to Sushi Sushi. Sitting at the Sushi Hub sushi train and picking whatever i like ,i only did it twice here but many times at Tetsujin. The food quality here is certainly good and the staff are all very friendly. I also love the creative decorated ceiling here. Will certainly be back.
Felicia Liando
I really want to like this place, but you guys gave me food poisoning.

I had a quick bite here last night at 7:10pm, just before watching a musical at a theatre nearby. 2.5 hours into the musical, I started feeling nauseous and my stomach began cramping. Good thing the musical ended 10 mins after that, so I hurried back to my hotel. That's when the horrible diarrhoea, more stomach cramps, fatigue, chills and weakness started.

Now I'm on bed rest and won't be able to catch my plane to Sydney tomorrow. I might be really unfortunate; probably it's the pickled ginger/soggy prawn tempura/cold tuna, but still thanks guys for ruining my holiday. Will go back to this place never.

@sushihub is the hub of all delicious and fresh sushi you can find in one store! There are several scattered in Melbourne and is often quite busy! They offer a premium sushi train or a simple takeaway packed in an environmentally friendly bag! We loved their soft shell crab, raw tuna and salmon sushi rolls - tasty and fresh! We also recommend the sushi deluxe pack which packed full of their delicious variety! @sushihub is a convenient Japanese fast food chain which offers delicious, healthy and fresh meals! Open from 9AM - 10PM, you can enjoy it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and those cheeky meals in between 😉

Picked up a salmon box from here. Service was efficient and the server courteous. The sushi was quite good. Paid $6 for the box with an entertainment voucher. Happy with the experience, will go again for sure.

Sunday night dinner for 3. Affordable sushi train. It's a fun place to bring kids because they can see all the food and pick their own dishes as it comes around. The menu shows all that is on offer and if you can't spot it on the train, you can place an order for it with the staff. Service was efficient and staff friendly.

Our go to affordable sushi train. Good selection of food and a welcome presentation. This was super packed when we came. We even had to share a table with strangers it was like a double date because wer were just sitting opposite them on the same table. But back to the food. Overall a relaxing place, no pressure for you to leave so they can fit more people. Recommended sushi train experience.

So much to choose from. Stopped for refuelling after the ANZAC Day march in the city. This Sushi Hub on Swanson St was handy. The food is fresh and beautifully presented. We chose hand rolls- tempura prawn and a chicken avocado roll. There were salads, inari, sashimi, hot food and drinks. Eat in or takeaway like we did. Not expensive and very good quality.
Kepikkecil
Fresh sushi train, actually better price dine in than take away... love veggie tempura nigiri or maybe it's kakiage nigiri.. scallop and squid nigiri are very fresh too

They definitely have a super delicious sushi!

The most important thing of all, it's halal!😍 Muslims who's come to Melb could find this sushi kiosk easily. The location is just two blocks away from Flinders station, on the way to state library, best location in the heart of CBD.

Got takeaway from this place, amazing value for ikura and salmon belly chirashi, with tuna and tamago for $6.90! Pretty fresh and delicious, though could have used some soya sauce and wasabi (added my own). Portions are pretty small though, may not be filling for the average eater. Have lowered the rating because I hated the service, I don't expect great service but the staff was rude, impatient and could barely speak english. That said, it was speedy, quick and easy. Still, will probably go back when I'm nearby, cause it's just so cheap and nice- especially by Australian standards where people typically charge $20+ for bad/subpar chirashi sushi dons.

Food 3.5/5
Service 1/5
Value for money 5/5
Ambience 2.5/5
Sushi Hub is a sushi shop in Melbourne. Well actually they are a franchise, but the first sushi train run by Sushi Hub is in Melbourne and they are always packed to the full during lunch and dinner. Here the white plates were $2.80 each and the daily special was $3. They also have a make your own sushi roll as well as hot noodle dishes.
Denise Koh
Amazing display of hand rolls at the front! Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to sit in and try their dine-in menu but I did get my hands on the 'Sushi sandwich' which was delicious! Perth definitely needs to step up their game with their sushi stands!
Sher Win
Who would have ever thought of having sandwich and sushi at the same time 😍 a definite must try is their sushi sandwich. You get multiple flavours in one product. Sushi Hub taste better than a few sushi merchants in town, but their prices are slightly on a higher end.
Martin Y
If you're looking for a quick snack, this is the place to go. I would say Sushi Hub is more like a fast food chain that serves a consistent quality of sushi. Once you've tried Sushi Hub, it'll always be the same. For example, you know what to expect when you order a Big Mac from Mcdonald's.

Sushi Hub doesn't make the best sushi but they also aren't the worst. Most of the sushi are topped with Japanese mayo or some type of sauce that overpowers everything else (not that it's bad in this situation). If that fails, just add more soy sauce ;). If you're skeptical, I'd recommend the deep fried rolls or sushi as they're your safest bet.

The staff there are trained for fast efficient turnovers so don't expect the highest quality in service.
Julycheee
Yes there is a lot of variety, but both times I've absolutely hated what I got. The sushi rice is bland and the ingredients aren't very tasty. My inside out rolls box seemed promising, but it was all so bland and EVERY inch was covered in sesame seeds. The amount of sesame seeds was actually horrible to eat, making the sushi taste even more dry and bland. They wouldn't even come off, so after gagging through most of the box not wanting to waste food, I decided to throw the rest out. They are a bit more expensive than other fast-food sushi joints, but they taste even worse.
Stephanie Papazois
Great little sushi store. They have a big selection of sushi and hand rolls and offer meals at this store too. It's in a great location, very central and is always crowded with people. It seems there is always a never ending queue but the service is always prompt when ordering for take away. And I notice people get seated pretty quickly. Really like the handrolls here and would love to come back for a meal one day.
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
Delicious and fresh with a large variety and dine in space! Quick service, they take card and there's unlimited soy sauce! Though the prices are sushi average and not exactly cheap, so we prefer Tokui before 6pm. Sushi Hub unlike other places sushi are open late, making them a quick and healthy snack! Though pricey meal if you want to be full.

I called in here as I was walking down Swanston St and I've wanted to stop here but I've always been in a rush. So today was the time to stop lol

This place was packed, and the sushi looked really fresh so I grabbed a couple of different sushi an Inari w seaweed.

Delicious food, and another reason I'm giving this place a 5/5 is the amount of condiments that they had. Wasabi, Ginger, Soy Sauce, Japanese chopsticks wrapped in paper. Perfect.

I'm coming back again and again haha
Good Food Good Mood
I tend to plan my outfit based on how much I'm going to eat. When I'm hitting the sushi train it's always very loose flowy garments. I've been here a couple of times now and it is literally the freshest sashimi I've ever had that wasn't at a fish market. Quality on par with top notch Japanese restaurants for obviously a fraction of the price. I'm looking at you Sake. For good reason they are expanding across the Melbourne cbd at a rapid rate and have branched out to the suburbs. Pretty good value for money and lots of different sushi options (there's even a sushi burger). Also my go to this year for takeaway every time I've gone to the moonlight cinema. You'll never go to sushi sushi again
Snaka
I tried the veggie tempura nigiri and it was super tasty! Staff were friendly and service was quick even though the place being super busy. There are a couple of seats set aside for people to eat their takeaway food however was very disappointed to see that there was no recycling bin despite everyone's takeaway being served in recyclable plastic containers....

Excellent Sushi, great service and very good value. My young sons loved the sushi train and there were lots of choices for them to have a varied, tasty and healthy lunch.

Late night drinking and your starving, this place was open till late and the sushi was fresh and just something easy to grab. Who knows if it was just that moment, but this sushi really hit the spot and wasn't too expensive.

It is what it is. Sushi hub doesn't pretend to be anything but affordable sushi, and that's what it is.

Excellent for those hungry after a night of drinking, bad for those looking for a fine dining experience or fresh fish.

Sushi Hub Broadmeadows

Came here for breaky/ lunch on boxing day. I had the prawn salad and the abalone salad, both were quite small and so it was too crazy overfilling. The prawn salad came with a lovely dressing of sesame mayo. The prawns themselves weren’t the meaty ones – I am yet to have sushi that uses the proper meaty prawns. The abalone was nice- also covered in tasty mayo.

So very average. I was a little embarrassed going here. But hey, sometimes you need a quick fix. The sushi train had no variety. Boring selection and seems dilapidated. The take away part, which seems to have a higher turnover, is more inviting. Won't be back very soon, unless there ain't much choice.

Sushi Hub has an INSANE range of sushi/sashimi/salads (like seaweed salads). I was so blown away by the range on offer here, it far outweighs my experiences in other CBD Sushi Outlets in terms of the food options on offer and the freshness of the food.
I had a seaweed-salad-filled Inari and my classic choice, the salmon/avocado roll. It was late at night but the food was as fresh as if I had stepped into the shop at the crack of dawn. And delicious too!

There was such a wide selection of food here that I spend most of my time deciding what to get. I had this to takeaway, but there looked to be an extensive range of seating options inside the store. I'm imagining it would get pretty packed around lunchtime and dinnertime, so plan accordingly. Some cool drinks on offer here too. My sushi stop in the CBD, not going to lie.
Penguin
Dined at their sushi train and the dishes ranged from good to very good. The prices are very good. It's the place for a quick feed and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The selection wasn't stellar - very few options. The sushi itself wasn't amazing either. Nevertheless, I must admit that this is a very convenient place to eat. Service isn't anything to praise, but that's the standard for Asian restaurants. Overall, would recommend for students on a budget

Whilst I have yet to experience the sushi train option from the Swanston Street Sushi Hub, I do think their takeaway window options are killer. For chain store sushi you get a huge selection, fresh ingredients and everything is well priced. I pop through on the odd occasion when I’m feeling like one or ten sushi things. Hand rolls do a suitable job for filling a cheap belly, with prices around about the $2.60 – $3.30 mark. Prawn tails and chicken strips stick out longing to entice you into its selection.
Jessica
Such a large variety of sushi available here. Everything is very fast paced and mostly self serve. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of vegetarian options available on the sushi train so I had to order vegetarian tempura nigiri and tempura. The waiting period was incredibly long. Their were flies inside the restaurant which I thought was disturbing because it constantly swarmed over the sushi train. In total it costed $58 for 2 people
Bopnbeep
Possibly the largest pick 'n mix variety of sushi in Melbourne. It's all fresh and well presented. We grabbed some rolls and a sushi pack to go. The prawn katsu was very good, with half a prawn sticking out the end. They are generous with fillings but you are paying more than most other sushi spots. You can also take as much wasabi, ginger and soy as you want. Service is average but it's great for a sushi fix.

I love the variety at Sushi Hub! The wide assortment of colourful sushi, inari etc. at the front counter will definitely attract the attention of many walking past!
I tried their salmon dragon something (don't remember the name but it was awesome), sushi sandwich, jellyfish inari and vege tempura inari. All were excellent! I like how the inari comes in brown rice too! Servings were quite decent as well, especially the inaris.
Although it's comparatively pricey, I'll still return to try their mouth-watering sushi!
TheyCallHimX
Only been here once but so far my experience has been a good one. Loved the seared salmon and surpringly really enjoyed the sushi sandwich.

Will go back to try some more of their range.

Love this place we always stop by for a snack when we are in the city. It's our favorite take away sushi restaurant. I love their salmon nigiri and salmon sashimi. They have a really large variety on the sushi train and it is always really fresh. Love the busy vibe of the place to it makes it fun and alive.
FOOD TRIP
Sushi Hub is a massive shop front smack bang on busy Swanston Street. The front of shop serves up pick and choose your own pieces to take away while the back is where the sushi train lives. All the sushi are yummy and generously sized for the pricing. Great for a quick bite or something to take home. Would recommend.

Was very happy with sushi hubs sushi in the past, really quick and usually friendly service. I went there today to get a few sushi rolls for an early dinner before work, I was so disappointed. I ordered a katsu prawn roll which is fairly big at the end and the girl serving me stuffed it in the tray causing it to break the whole roll. Even after she had noticed that she sent it off for me to pay for it and the girl the served me at the register saw my unsatisfied faced I'd sent towards the mutilated sushi roll, looked at it and proceeded to ask for my money. I'm not usually petty about this stuff but it's quite annoying to try to eat a fallen apart sushi roll quickly before work. Not happy.
Ta.be.tabi
Sushi Hub is a new fast food sushi chain, with a branch in Melbourne on Swanston St that also includes a sushi train. I was quite skeptical of the new joint at first, because the image was a bit too trendy! But seeing so many people crowding around here I had to trust that it should be somewhat decent. I came here after 2pm which is well past the lunch rush.
HappyPanda
Great location, good for a quick bite or takeaway. Normally really crowded due to the limited seating for sushi train. However went later on a Friday night and was seated almost immediately. Surprisingly good spread of sushi on the conveyor belt and did not have to order many additional ones from the menu. The sushi sandwich was an interesting idea. Tasted fresh and not too heavy on the mayo. Service was good. Although there was only 1 staff member serving on the floor, service was still pretty fast.
Ange
Grabbed a tuna brown sushi. Didn't like it as rice was too hard and seasoning of both rice and tuna was subpar. Only positive is service was lovely and they're open late but wouldn't come here unless I was desperately having a sushi craving, even then, might hold off to the next day for better sushi given plentiful other options in city area. Price was $2.70 which is alright. Sushi is presented is a very clean manner and aesthetically pleasing but lack of flavour.

Standard sushi train fair. If you sit further down the train you'll just have to watch other diners pick off the dishes you want... and practice a little more patience.
DuckieLovesToEat
If you are in need of a quick run for sushi in CBD then you find the place. The only downside is it gets too busy and there is not a lot of chairs available to dine in. Unless you don't mind crossing the street and sitting at the side of Westin then you are a ok. Sushi are fairly good but the inari I had that day didn't taste fresh at all. It was really a shame since I been here before and it was fairly good the last time I had been. But considering the price, the sushi they sell were pretty decent.
Tiffany
Been here twice, both time have been splendid! The wait time isn't that long compared to other sushi trains in Melbourne, waitress also informed us that next time we can call up in advance to make a booking which was lovely. There's a large variety of sushi dishes on the rotary and also other dishes on the menu to choose from. I recommend the lobster salad roll! comes in two and was very tasty. Also the fried oyster roll, creamy and hot! Prices are affordable and differ according to colour on the plates.
The Kats Meow
The new sushi offering on the southern end of Swanston St gives a funky vibe and a welcome addition that seems lacking in many sushi outlets - space.

You have the option of purchasing from the massive selection of a cold case. Either individual rolls or multiple mixed boxes. There is limited seating on a flat bar to consume your purchase in store.

Additionally, there is a large sushi train at the back of the store. It really feels that the train has much more limited selection compared to the spoils offered at the front of house, which is disappointing.

Having complimentary condiments for you to use is welcomed irrespective of utilising the take away a la carte or the sushi train is an aspect that many other outlets could emulate.

The train offerings are heavily reliant on sushi boats, over the standard rolls. Protein offerings are also heavily weighted towards fish over anything else. This makes you feel like you really are missing out. The hot options are mixed. Spring rolls were tasty, look forward to having them again.

In all honesty, think I will stick to the front of house in future. I prefer the greater choice options there.
Tony
Standard sushi train affair. Only real thing sushi hub offers over other better places is that it's close to the train station for easy access. Best just to get the stuff that catches your fancy from the front part of the shop rather than a sit down meal.
Melbourne Culinary
When it comes to sushi in the CBD, Sushi Hub is the new kid on the block. With a busy takeaway shopfront and a sushi train in the restaurant, it is great for both busy people working in the city or just people looking to relax in the restaurant. For those who buy the takeaway sushi, there is a small seating area for them to eat at.
Lime N Coconut
Can't believe the ratings for this place is so low! Maybe we caught it on a good day, had the sushi train and didn't need to wait at all. The ingredients were fresh and flavours were delicious! The prices were very very reasonable. The grilled scallop nigiri and abalone salad were standouts. Choosing your own fillings for the handrolls were a good addition too. Service was fine and fast. It's not a place for ambience but this cheap and cheerful place is great for a quick meal.
VERY DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER
Waited forever for overpriced average sushi...and then refused refund for overcharging on my card.

Did not even bother to look at those till receipts...so why even bother printing those out?! CUSTOMER BEWARE
Alvin Wong
Attentive staff. Not bad sushi for the price. Everything is pretty fresh. The inari are great! And they are cheap! $2 each was a bomb!
Pradeep Rajkumar
After Sushi Sushi and Suji Sushi.

This one is almost the same but recently I had bad customer service and overcooked rice in this place.

They need to train their staff members frequently to have better communication and presentation.

The ambiance and lighting are terrible and the diner design is not good and its a chaotic feel here.

Broken and horrible presentation in Sushi...

Just give a try mates...

After a quick lunch before heading to a movie and sushi was just what I fancied. As I am a visitor to Melbourne (although I do come here a lot) wasn't sure where to go. Quick check on Zomato and the Sushi Hub was right where I was getting off one tram and jumping onto the next, so that made sense.

It was the school holidays so incredibly busy, but I only waited for around 15 minutes before a seat at the train was available. All the usual suspects were on there and you could also order from the menu. I stuck with my favourites of salmon sashimi, tuna rolls, salmon rolls and I think I had a chicken and avo in there too. All were great - nicely made and fresh, nothing to write home about but perfect for what I was after.

There was also a very brisk takeaway trade going on and to be honest, I think there was more variety on offer in the takeaway section than was actually going around on the train. So perhaps next time I will grab it on the go.

Fine for a quick sushi meal.
Jasmine
Came and just took the first prawn dish that I saw off the train.

White dishes are $2.80 and it increases from there. Although it's at a decent location, still prefer sushi hotaru! The service was a bit lacking on a Tuesday lunchtime, tables were cleared slowly and the request for water was forgotten.

Nonetheless, the servers were friendly and the sushi options are different from the ones at sushi hotaru. It misses the classiness and modern take that hotaru has, but it's a decent joint just to go in and get your sushi fix. :)
CLABEL
Best sushi inari ever! I love the seaweed, tuna and lobster ones. They use brown rice for the inari which is healthier and it taste so good, perfect for grab-to-go as well. It may look small but the fillings is actually more than it seems.
Ben To
I don't understand how it has a 2.4 rating. There's no way it's that bad. I've had the sushi train 3 times and have been very impressed. Good food, good service.
CoolBeans
Let me just start by saying I love sushi! So naturally I will opt to eat sushi all day everyday if I could! I noticed the sushi hub on Swanston St a few times but haven't been able to go. Today I did for a quick bite. It's hard to walk past the place for two reasons - 1. The beautiful smell that captures you and make you crave sushi all day long. 2. The crowd outside this place. The cue was long but moved quickly. Once you move past it and see the display you will start salivating. If you don't, something is wrong with you!

I instantly wanted to eat it all! Refrained myself to try the California roll and a chilli chicken rolls. They accept card payments which is excellent and do not charge you a surcharge if it's less than $10. After I paid I had to hang around to find seating. This was the only issue I had. They have a separate section for the sushi train but if you were to dine there finding seating is a bit of a hassle.

The sushi was great. Was slightly larger than the usual sushi you get around from popular places but it was reflected in the price. While I hung around waiting for a seat I noticed that they had clearly indicated the the prices per plate for the sushi train, it was colour coded and anyone going in would not come out surprised. They also offered a variety of drinks.
The place is busy but has a nice feel to it. Don't think it's ideal to dine in other than the sushi train. Will definitely go back to try their other options.

Edit: mid April 2016

My friend & I went there and this time tried the sushi train. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The food that came in the train didn't look appetising nor was it tasty. It didn't have labels stating what it consisted of and we had to guess or wait for a waiter to walk past to clarify what it was. The food in the display is misleading to the food that comes on the train. Overall, would not go there again.

Today I had lunch at Sushi Hub. It was quite a disappointing experience. The customer service is really lacking. For example, when I paid for my meal the waitress didn't even say 'thank you' or show any indication that my card had been approved - instead she continued serving the next customer, so that was a bit confusing.

If you go here, please avoid taking any plates containing hot food. I have no idea how long some of that food had been on the train for but when I got the gyozas they were cold!

They have some really cool ideas here such as a sushi sandwich. I like the concept of creating your own sushi roll - honestly I didn't like the seaweed they used on their create your own sushi roll. The texture was quite different from other sushi seaweed I have tried.

Their sushi doesn't taste very fresh. I didn't like any of the sushi except for the grilled scallop which was a large serving and tasted nice.

I wouldn't return here. Still the best sushi train restaurant I've been to is Edomae in Box Hill.

Here's my boyfriend's thoughts on Sushi Hub:
There were some average hits and a lot of misses. The spring roles and moneybags were of a reasonable quality and formed the majority of what I ate, and for a good reason. The beef nigiri was very average and the gyoza put the dump in dumplings. Feel like the food needs to be tidied up a bit and shown more love for such a cuisine.

This place is very popular as it's so new, and I too was excited about it - however it's nothing very special. The sushi rolls themselves are fine - the normal standard to expect however the price just keeps creeping up, sometimes beyond 3$ per roll. there's cheaper elsewhere. The inari I was looking forward too, however they use too much of a seasoning vinegar whichmakes the inari so soggy and makes them taste almost sweet. The range of toppings is very diverse, though and the seaweed inari is an exception; it's lovely. I have not tried the sushi train yet, so maybe that menu will be better. Also, the prices are high and the service at the counter for take-away is very disoprganised. I would still drop in here for sushi rolls though!
Avolette
Newish sushi train smack bang in some prime real estate in the CBD.
Quite a large range of various sushi, inari and other snacks. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos until the deep fried snacks arrived that the table. The chicken karaage was delicious.

They also do take away options. Prices are mid-range and reasonable, ranging from $2.8 to about $6.8 per plate. Quality is pretty standard- acceptable but nothing to write home about.

Overall it wasnt bad but the sashimi i tried was not that fresh. There wasnt many variety dishes, some dishes came back to me serveral times. The dishes i tasted were a bit 'fishy'. Not planning to come back
Lily Qiu
Tried sushi train for lunch...it's good to share between two people so a dish can be shared and more varieties tried, also watch the chef making them We've tasted almost every options available. Nigiri is average-rice not moist and fish not very fresh; kunkan is far better, I especially recommend the baby octopus with wasabi and fish roe. Salads was my favourite, no matter the spicy octopus or the jellyfish one. But I'm more keen on the takeaway cabinet though.
The Portly Pumpkim
Stumbled upon Sushi Hub at 8:30pm on a Friday night - WOW. Grabbed a mixture of nigiri and nori to take away. Everything was fresh, flavoursome, colourful and cheap. Really great value for such good quality sushi. Had the aburi salmon roll with cream cheese inside, the french dragon roll, the katsu prawn roll and chilli crab nigiri. All were great!
Cookielessvee
not as great as the hype. Sushi skin was chewy and tough, unrolled itself after a bite or two. The unagi was nice and compressed with a generous amount of topping. A bit pricey but the sushi sandwich was tasty and different.
Joy
SUSHI OUT THE FRONT = A+, but sushi train out the back is negative 2.5 points. I saw what they had at the front of the shop for takeaway, and I thought sushi train will be great but it was awful. Massive square chunks of rice for each nigiri, ingredients not very fresh, little variety, what was there wasn't that appetizing. We asked where the more expensive plates are, waiter didn't know. Asked him what is usually on them, he didn't know. Each table has a "call" button but upon pressing multiple times, no response for any staff. Save yourself time and grab the cheaper and better options for takeaway, don't bother to eat at the sushi train.
Chad
Please keep in mind when I'm giving this a 4.5 and Nobu got a 5.0, I am NOT comparing one to the other. We just got out of the show Cats and my wife said she needed a bite to eat. Across Swanston St are many options. I saw the sushi place and said let's check it out. At first we getting grab-n-go and I saw that they have the bar with pick your own sushi. $31 later we were TOTALLY satisfied and very happy. It helps that I really adore the sushi boat experience. My favorite were the scallops with orange tobiko on top. There is not a ton of variety but plenty of offerings. Self serving water also helps to keep prices down. Enjoy!!!

Stopped by for lunch today and managed to get seated for the sushi train - it wasn't too busy when i dropped by.

Selection on the train itself was very limited same plates were coming through over and over again, staff were more than happy to help to bring some items from the menu for us - I mainly had sashimi and some sushi it was fine but nothing special.

Not the greatest selection for a sushi train place and doesnt really stack up to what else is up for offer in the CBD might be worth grabbing some cheap sushi from the front but not worth coming for the train.
Lady Shiny
New shop in town since last time i was in Melb, 1st time trying out the "train seating". Full and was told 10 mnts waiting. A bunch of customers who came 10 minutes after, went in 1st instead. *Miscommunication within the staff* The food ranges looking really sad too, were only raw salmon sushi and raw tuna sushi. The 1st experience wasn't pleasant.
Adhya
I saw long queue in this restaurant every time I passes by and tiday had the chance to give it a try. The front shop offering a lot variety of sushi, inari also bento box and the price are competitive with others. But I choose to sit and get something from sushi train. Staff was ignorant, not friendly at all. Not so many choices in the train actually. The salmon sushi is quite nice, the octopus sushi not fresh, the calamari is cold and sit on wilted iceberg lettuce. The cup of my green tea is dirty and oily. I don't think i would comeback!
Sumin Oh
Terrible service. I was stand waiting for sushi train 10m. All of hall chinese staffs were ignore customer. finally, i can get bar sit with call staff.
tried to order green tea, but staffs were ignore again. eye matched with there several time. but no body ask me about order, just keeping fking ignore.
and last terrible was talking on my bar top. some female staff was having very loud talk with sushi maker in side. she walked thorough to my area, and covered my sushi plates with her body. WTF. I had 4 stamp of this restraunt but i just leaved that coupon on bar then payed with out any tips. Thanks for all of staffs to make my lunch ruined. Never go again. this 1 raiting is too much to this restraunt
Linnie Eats All The Food
The babies decided they wanted to try out the new sushi train place and so I third wheeled them and ended up at Sushi Hub. At the front of the store you can buy sushi to either take away or eat in. The babies weren’t interested in that, no siree, they were interested in the sushi train and that was fully packed! We had to line up waited for maybe 15 minutes in peak lunch time. Where they asked us to line up, it was such an inconvenient spot, right at the cashier, right where they brought out the food, right where people exited from the sushi train. When we did finally get a seat at the booth, we were ready for some sushi!
Kimmy_desu
Went today to try out the sushi train, most items on the conveyor belt are $2.80-$3.80 per plate, with a few premium ones being $4.80-$5.80. Most of the ones available today were the $2.80-$3.80 ones, and honestly the quality was not that great and there was not much variety available. We saw the same ones circling around over and over again and when we saw a udon menu on the side we asked if we could order a udon and the waitress said udon wasn't available today. That being said the service was pretty appalling too. Very rude and all the staff spoke Chinese. I can get better service than this even at Chinese restaurants! The takeaway counter at the front of the store however offers a range of cheap sushi, especially the inari sushi with quite a few different flavours such as jellyfish, lobster, crab meat, seaweed etc. Their dragon maki rolls also looked nice. We only had 13 plates at the sushi train between the two of us and decided that we'd leave it at that and buy some to take home from the front counter instead. 5 pieces of sushi for only $10.50, it's a lot more worth it! Anyway, I don't think I'll want to come here again unless I'm near Flinders St and want to get some cheap takeaway sushi.
Mr MM Smith
new place on Swanston & Flinders Ln, not too bad, staffed by Chinese for the most part, the place has sushi train and you can order other dishes from the menu. No alcohol which is a shame, sushi with a beer or sake is always a good meal. The prices are reasonable too..lots of variety which is always good. I like.
