Review Peko Peko - Melbourne

Rouven Grossmann
Delicious Taiwanese food in South Melbourne. We were lucky to get a table even during the week so it’s recommended to book in advance as the place was super busy. The food was nice and full of flavour. The only downside was that the tables are bit small and the place is generally a little too tight.
Andy Setyawan
Great Taiwanese food in Melbourne. They are always packed, so it's very wise to book online before you go there. Try all of their chef specials, they are so good. The service is good by their friendly and helpful staff.

The food was so delicious, really amazing flavours. They have a small menu, but everything is done so well. The chilli tofu was crispy and very, very tasty. I would highly recommend Peko Peko. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Peko Peko is vegetarian and vegan friendly. Make sure you book, as it gets busy most nights of the week. BYO wine only.

How amazing and tasty foods. This small Taiwanese restaurant serves you a beautiful foods with great portions. As I live close by I could see crowds and definitely suggest you to book in advance. Thanks 😊

For Just 10 box you’ll have a delicious food! While dine in Portions are big that you get full! But when I got take away the portion was really smaller which I was surprised as I didn’t expect that! Hope they fix this issue! But still I love the food as its Very tasty, quick service, nice staff!! Everything is perfect. Its my favorite restaurant always!

Their food is the best thing that had happened to me on this business trip. High quality, reasonably priced and delicious. Place is tidy and constantly cleaned by staff. And it has the vibe you won't want to miss. Staff is welcoming, quick, helpful and genuinely happy to see you. Food portions are conveniently broken up into sections to match different appetites. Parking - along the road. Must foodie place.

Food is delicious here! 😀 and portions are quite filling! Loved the Singapore Noodles, Mince Mince and Brocoli dumplings! A TRULY HIDDEN GEM in Southbank!

Really delicious Taiwanese food and amazing service, really fast even though they are so busy. Amazing place to try unique dishes but also have classics. Definitely worth the price!

If you want to reminisce about overseas travel during lockdown, then buy dinner from Peko Peko, where you can replicate the food you’re forced to eat on the plane for a hefty price.

Salty, bland, overcooked, gluggy and glutinous.
Melbfoodie_mark
Insta: melbfoodie_mark
YT: MelbFoodieMark
** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne!
-
When it comes to dining out, I act like a 16 year old kid getting his first car. I literally check out multiple different sites and go through tons of reviews to narrow down to about 3 must try dishes. And once I arrive, I always cross-check by asking the waiter what he/she would get. So once my research was done, I was expecting to dine at a nice tiny cozy family-owned restaurant - but I was pleasantly surprised how spacious and modern it was. Even had a bit of classy vibe going with its dark oak flooring and tables.

So we ended up getting Pop Chicken ($17), Taiwanese Sausage Fried Rice ($16), and Wasabi Mayo Prawns ($12). I know they sound pretty basic but they were truly delicious and rather unlike any other dish I've ever had (well, except for Wasabi Mayo Prawn. Not my fav).

I don't know what sort of sorcery they pulled but their fried rice was friken delicious. Like I was genuinely shook. I'm guessing they used some sort of magical sauce to make them so flavourful. Not to mention, having these small tempura bits mixed with the rice really added unexpectedly amazing texture. Definitely will get it again next time.

Pop chicken tasted like an upgrade version of one of those gigantic fried chickens people carry around in the city (you know, those big ass Hot Star fried chickens in a blue wrapper). Think of it as a more tender and flavourful version of that.
FoodieInMel
Never been to the shop, though we love ordering takeaway from them, not the most authentic Taiwanese flavour for the Taiwanese sausage fried rice, but still quite delicious my partner’s favourite. Love the tempura shrimp and the soft shelf crab fried rice!

Took away peko2 after hearing so much about it. Man, this place rocks! If the takeaway tastes so good, the dine in experience must be even more awesome.

Everything we ate was crunchy and delicious, the only downside is I was a bit thirsty at the end of it, but it’s worth it. The popcorn chicken came with kewpie mayo and fish sauce. It was just so crunchy and addictive. Even the fried rice was topped up with crunchy condiments. Well seasoned, perfectly fried and delicious at every bite. All in all, fantastic food if you fancy Taiwanese fast food

Great place for quick lunch

Reservation on Zomato was accepted and confirmed promptly. Came here on a Friday night; it’s a short walk from a main tram stop. The external signage and the actual decor is all really cute and student friendly. It feels casual, but still a class above a cheap eat.

FOOD 4/5 - pop chicken had a unique spice to it, and was extremely juicy/tender without being crispy. The dumplings tasted great since they were full of meat, but lacked enough soup to be a proper XLB. The beef fried rice was probably the most average. Nothing separating it from a quick street eat as it was quite flat in flavour and oily. Nonetheless, it matched the description and still tasted like authentic fried rice.

SERVICE 4/5 - relatively quick service, friendly staff, no-fuss attitude. Particularly liked how the waitress asked if we wanted all dishes at once or if we actually wanted to split up the small/just/big eats’ servings over time.

ATMOSPHERE 3.5/5 - it’s quite a busy and loud eatery. Bit hard to hear others talk, and the toilets are very dirty. Otherwise, the paintings and polaroids on the walls offer a homely and inviting vibe.
ARMANEATS
We ordered the satay fried rice with crispy honey beef, as well as their pork dumplings. I have a very low tolerance for spicy food and was able to devour the fried rice without much protest from my stomach. The dishes are sauce heavy, so as per usual you'll definitely want some rice or rice dish to compliment the mains. The crispy beef was indeed very crispy, and the sauce was quite rich but delicious. Great food and really good price point. The dumplings were tastier than some dumpling specific restaurants we have been to recently. Between 2 of us that was more than enough food.

eko Peko in an attempt to make their address less confusing have failed miserably.
The correct address is 1-13 Bank Street, South Melbourne. They could add that it is on the corner of Wells Street, South Melbourne. It definitely isn't in Southbank!

The food is wonderful, we have now been here several times.
For the adventurous, I'd suggest trying the Volcano Spicy POP chicken, it will blow your head away!
Anthonyinoz
Very busy bustling eatery. Excellent food with great service. A bit squeezy and noisy but what do you expect for such a popular cafe at 1:00 pm I will be back!

Came in for a Eat-in meal after a run and was turned away by the staff because there were no seats available. they offered a takeout menu instead. Very well, maybe they did have the place booked out but the next 2 people who came in were seated without reservations. This got me HEATED. There were at least 4-5 tables free but they could not serve me because I was just by myself. In my entire life I have never had a place do this to me in Australia or America (Where I am from). Seriously fucccc this place and their employees, I don’t know why they think that was OK (maybe because I’m Asian they assumed) but man I have sworn off this place. If the staff want to rectify this feel free, I’ll attempt to listen to your bullshit but it will just fall on my deaf ears.
Nikita Theodora
Have been coming back here for the last 8 years. Their food is always consistent, tasty, and generous in portion. They get busy during peak hours so booking may be necessary. Their pop chicken is a favourite.
Vanessa
When I asked about the rice, the staff said they only got fried rice or plain rice but which is not true. Poor English with unfriendly attitude, made me pay more than I thought. Is that really hard to explain your menu clear to your customer?
Elon Solomona
Been here for the 2nd time since moving to Melbourne and have not been disappointed. Service is great meals come out quick and piping hot. My partner was unsure about what she wanted so asked for a staff recommendation which she loved. The custard deep fried chicken is THE JAM. The apple plum wine soda was delicious as well. Will definitely be back again. Thank you again for the awesome feed.

A nice Taiwanese eatery with very reasonable prices and tasty food. Highly recommend the pop chicken. The place can get quite busy though, Better to call them or just go bit early say 12pm for lunch.
Michelle Xu
Nice Taiwanese food and friendly service., the environment is also cute as you can see on my posted pictures. They offer real Taiwanese food. The spicy fried chicken is like good, with their special spicy sauce to dip in the middle.
The fried calamari comes in a big bowl with good lay out.
For the drink, try their black tea with ice cream on it, it is wholly really nice drink, one of the best drinks that you can get from an Asian restaurants

The spring rolls are mostly veggie I guess, not bad but also not impressive.

Also the typical Taiwan minced pork rice is tasty, but the style is more on the dry side instead of with lots of sauce.

Worth to try again.

Peko Peko is quite a nostalgic restaurant for me, it was here that I spoke to length to the Japanese Akita breeder in Sydney over the phone about adopting one of the pups. The conversation took up almost the entirety of the dinner!. We revisited again recently and I was able to fully enjoy the food they had to offer. Highlights were the Pop Chicken and Singapore Noodle. The Pop Chicken which is similar to the Hot Star style, seasoned with salt and pepper, came out hot, crunchy and full of flavour. The Singapore noodle had a even distribution of the spicy curry powder flavour and a generous amount of veggies.

We (4) visited this venue on a Saturday for lunch. Pleasant & helpful staff & an interesting menu. The wine list is pretty sparse, but the Chardonnay we had was drinkable. So I would suggest BYO if you are serious about your wines. A great little neighbourhood restaurant.
Tuey_z
Awesome place for "pre's" food is delicious and BYO is awesome. We had a group of 10 and ordered almost eveything off the menu and everything was nice AF. Staff are accomodating and the vibe is cool. Only issue is it's a little congested in the restaurant and you might leave smelling like Asian food the rest of the night.. maybe it isnt the best place for "pre's" haha
Coco F
Cheap and cheerful place with so many Yumm things. Been years!

Really love their fried chicken and mince pork rice.

The fried chicken is perfect with a beer.

This place is one of the most famous Taiwanese restaurants around Melbourne.. we had the braised pork with rice, crispy chicken and Taiwanese sausage fried rice.. the food was good however the fried rice was a bit too salty and the braised pork belly rice was a bit mundane.. we expected a lot more given the price and also considered how hard it was to get a booking at this place..
Overall ok for a meal out but nothing too special given the price..
Hello. Imnikki
Peko Peko has been an old favourite of mine, and it's always good to be back. One of the early pioneers of Taiwanese cuisine in Melbourne, Peko Peko has stayed true to their roots, yet has managed to spice things up with new twists on old classics.

The popcorn chicken, or pop chicken as they called it here, is my go-to dish. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and very well-seasoned, these bite sized pieces of chicken are super addictive. If you like heat, go for the spicy version, otherwise known as volcano spicy pop chicken.

The Taiwan Style Dry Noodle with all the trimmings is a very homely sort of meal, one that does not wow with its looks, nor blows your mind, but keeps one satisfy with its endearing flavours. The same could be said for the fried rice or noodles.

I finally got around to trying the panna cotta, and was impressed with its jiggly and smooth texture. I'm definitely going to have to try out the remaining flavours!

Very popular with the nearby office workers during lunch time, and just as popular with families and students during the night, do book ahead just to be on the safe side.
Eatwithbonny
I ordered their food from Uber. Always wanted to visit this restaurant, but haven’t get the chance of it. We had popcorn chicken which was amazing, house fried rice was not my favourite and taiwan sausages fried rice was tasty!

Will visit the store soon!
JustCruizing
Lots of noise for this place made me eager to try out the food myself! Didn’t disappoint. Haven’t really particularly been to a Taiwanese restaurant so I went for the food that stood out and wouldn’t be hard to fault . Tried the pop chicken , Taiwanese sausage fried rice and Wonton noodle soup. They were definitely delicious just the only thing for me on my part is that I wasn’t adventurous enough, I went a bit too safe. Looking forward to the next dishes to indulge.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner on Saturday night and unfortunately an hour later we both got food poisoning. We ate the mama custard chicken and sweet and sour chicken. We have been here a few times but after our last we won’t be coming back.
FOOD TRIP
Peko Peko is a great place if you want to try out some typical Taiwanese cuisine. Their fried chicken is a must order as well as the taiwanese sausage. Plenty of seating available but does get busy during meal times. Would recommend!. Iced Green Tea Latte $7. Decent matcha style drink, but not worth the price ★★
Love Food
A very different dining experience at this place. Great staff. They are very helpful.
The presentation of the food is awesome and beautiful.
Fried rice is just so very different
They put okonomiyaki sauce and mayo which gives a very special kick.
Salt and pepper squid is delicious. Very chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
We totally love the popcorn chicken with the mayo and that’s a hit with the kids. They have a very generous amount of mayo on the side.
Cold noodle is with miso paste which is not too much of my liking.
Having said that, it is an awesome dining experience.

The dishes here can be very sweet, which can be a plus or minus. For me, it was great at the start but it was quickly became too much. On the last visit, we definitely had this problem with the crispy beef. Their chicken pop though was as good as I remembered many years ago. i
It's highly recommended. As for the drink, again it was super sweet but arguably still nice
HangryGal
I have visited Peko Peko a few times now, we love the pop chicken and the dumplings are also very good!
I think you would be safe to order anything off this menu and know it would be delish,
Me and my partner would come here all the time if it wasn't so far away from where we live :'(
Aaron Chin
Always a great place to come back to when I am craving for Taiwanese cuisine. It was so good that I even had my birthday celebration here! We ordered the chicken ribs, crispy beef and the pop chicken. Everything was fantastic. Would be back in no time

Cute little place in South Melbourne. A much loved restaurant amongst family & friends. Always accomodating if we walk in without a reservation as this place is constantly packed to the brim - both weeknights and weekends. Food never disappoints and portions for mains are always generous.
Onlybeyoutothefull
Great service and even greater food!

We ordered the Five spice calamari, House fried rice, Ma Ma custard fried chicken and the Pop Chicken.

All of the dishes was delicious! Particularly the House fried rice and Ma Ma custard fried chicken. The fried rice was very unique as they used two sauces for the flavour. Whilst Ma Ma custard fried chicken was delicious and softer.

Overall rate : 4/5

I’ve been going to Peko Peko for years and it never disappoints! The service is always with a smile and the food is amazing. Try the beetroot dumplings with tempura broccoli, and the beef fried rice. Delicious

Stunner across this place looking for pizza shop.
Lucky we tried them.

The service was extremely quick . Meals was ready in 5 min. The drinks was amazing. Taiwan beef noodles was a bit average .

Presentation wise it’s great . Look at the fun cashier.

Easily some of the best popcorn chicken, if not THE best I've ever had. Absolutely delicious. Also a big fan of their rice dishes, although the honey beef was unfortunately pretty lackluster by comparison.

Service was great, friendly and quick. Place is cozy and lively. If you are thinking about checking it out, be sure to make a booking. Even on a weeknight, this place was packed.
Stephanie
Fried chicken was yummy as was the fried rice.
Everything came in the Uber eats order hot and fresh with ample cutlery and napkins. I’d order from
Here again.
Tiff Or
Friendly staff and #delicious food.
Honestly really surprised with the sausage fried rice. I wasn't expecting it to taste this amazing. It was the perfect amount of crunch, not too salty, and amount of sauce on top. Great fusion mix.
The popcorn chicken was just as great too!
Convivialsins
Not much has changed over the yrs but I do wonder what everyone is eating!! Everything except the rice is SALTY!!! the accompanying sauce gives it a different dimension but heck there’s nothing great! I can get better at a food court! The chicken was very dry and the most salty! the mince I really don’t know where to start but I wouldn’t order again. or actually I wouldn’t come back! Salty and the rice was hard! Yep! Save yourself the trouble.. Just go buy a packet of he Japanese curry and use all the cubes in it to cook whatever... The calamari.. was ok but it’s just fried.

Now i know why this place is so popular!

I've been meaning to check out Peko Peko because its my local and it always seems packed. My friends and I went with no booking on a Satday night which was a mistake.

So this time I made a booking and I wasn't disappointed. The chicken popcorn was crunchy on the outside and juicy everywhere else. The steamed fish was flavorful and the service was friendly.

What else do you need?

Great place for Taiwanese food!

A friend of mine recommended this place, we were running late before they close so we decided to make a call see if we can order before we pop in. Really appreciate the staff let us do that and it’s the best decision we made. The fried chicken is great, although a bit heavy handed with the chili mayo. The diamond amongst the many cafes in the strip of shops on the street. Overall, we had a great night. Great services. Definitely will return or recommend my friends when in the neighborhood.
Sophia
Very nice cafe, the services are friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. The most important is that dishes are delicious. We ordered salted crispy chicken, ginger beef, sausage fired rice and pancake sandwich. The chicken and the sausage rice are our favorite.
Daisy
I finally tried Peko Peko after having it recommended by several Taiwanese friends and it was as good as they described it. Every dish we ordered was delicious, service was friendly and the restaurant had cute decorations. The extra travel time out of the city is definitely worth it.
Some Bunee Loves Food
Ordered the chicken fried rice from Uber eats and surprisingly really tasty as it was still piping hot and had a nice work charred flavor to it. The chicken was diced and very tender and moist. The bang bang squid flavor was so very unique- not the squid itself as it was bland but the sauce that came with it. Wow that sauce was really nice, whatever that was. I've never had that flavor before actually.

The Thai milk tea pannacotta is really creamy and rich in thai milk tea flavour but found a hair on top eeek.

It’s AMAZING ! I’m from Taiwan, having been looking for Taiwanese food in Melbourne for a while and none of them aren’t even close Taiwanese food. A friend of mine recommended this place, we were running late before they close so we decided to make a call see if we can order before we pop in. Really appreciate the staff let us do that and it’s the best decision we made. Popped in the shop and still a few table eating. As soon as we sit down, our food are all on the table ready to eat. We had soup Formosa, sausages fried rice, pop chicken and king fried chicken, also Taiwan beer. EVERYTHING is amazing. My partner said it’s the best fried rice ever! I really enjoy the soup as well. It does make me feel home. Thanks a lot for the wondering food. Totally worth of us to drive 40 mins to get it. Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend.

The best Taiwanese food in the area. Forget about parking in the city, go toward South Melbourne and enjoy free parking on weekends. Then enjoy some Taiwanese Fusion food, the tranditional fried pop chicken and chicken chop are really good. Young kids will love the teriyaki fish (basa fillet no bones) with noodle or rice(additional charges). Food are not cheap but of high quality. $16 to $20 for main dishes and around $13 for noodles soup or rice dishes. Overall, we had a great night. Great services. Definitely will return or recommend my friends when in the neighborhood.
Custardbun
Great neighbourhood place for a casual meal. The fried chicken is great, although a bit heavy handed with the chilli mayo. The diamond amongst the many cafes in the strip of shops on the street.
Munchk1n
The big boss fried chicken ribs are delicious!! As were the pop chicken, crispy honey beef, pork addiction. Spring rolls are way too over priced for 3 spring rolls cut in half! The dessert portions are fairly small. Thai milk tea pannacotta is really nice!

Will definitely come back and try all the other yummy looking items on the menu!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
I'm giving this a 5 because I've been to this place a few times and it has never done me wrong. Food is always tasty and service is friendly and kind. Vibes are great as well because it is usually busy. Fortunately my lovely girlfriend and I did not have to wait long (5-10mins). We ordered the Ma Ma Custard Fried Chicken, Singapore Noodle and the Wasabi Mayo Prawn. I always get the fried chicken when I am here because it is really good even though my brain tells me it's not good for me. Singapore Noodles didn't excite me but it was still good. Their Wasabi Mayo Prawns are just as good as the chicken. It's just a shame you only get 4 pieces for $12. This is a restaurant that I would come back to........and I have.

Thanks for reading.

Had dinner last week at Peko Peko I am
New to Melbourne and the reviews were great. I had dinner with my in laws and wife. Made a reservation did not have a table reserved for us when we got there and had to wait 25 minuets to be seated. That was just the start Small portions, deceiving menu, staff hardly able To speak English, not enough staff and overly rude manger (she look as though she was I control). Cherry on top of the cake for us when asked to spilt the bill , the manger she was overly aggressive and come across as she was trying intimidated us. Avoid this restaurant at all costs
Kevin
Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday and the place was bustling! Food came out super quick. Would 100% recommend the pop chicken and the Taiwan sausage fried rice - we also ordered the pork dumplings which were not the best.
Will definitely be back!
Kris L
A neighbourhood gem! This place is always busy so I recommend you book in advance, but it’s well worth the trouble. The food is simply amazing and homey. We always order the mama’s custard fried chicken (chicken pops with chilli mayo), fried rice and the staff meal (chicken and broccoli scramble, tastes a lot better than it sounds and looks!). Also, if you order the beer, get it with a side of sour plums - mind blowing!
Shaun Langdon
Great restaurant. Come here regularly with the family... great atmosphere, delicious food options and very well priced. Can also BYO. Love it.

Cas.cql
Small restaurant with a lot to offer. Good food but very cramped. Dessert is a overpriced. It is somewhere we visit quite frequently. Unfortunately, one rude staff is enough to ruin a great dinner experience.
Flying Forward
Cute Taiwanese eatery in the backstreets of South Melbourne that do classics like mince pork on rice, but have modern offerings of Japanese-Taiwanese style desserts and drinks.
*Peko Sausage - almost like a Vietnamese nem nuong, it's sweet, garlicky and moreish.
*Mince mince - comforting dish, the pork mince is cooked down with a soy shiitake mushroom stock, to make a thick gravy. Sitting on top of rice, it's cut through with pickled greens.
Prices are quite reasonable. Settle your expectations and you'll enjoy a homely, comforting meal.
Brook Zhang
The Mince Mince was great!!! with enough meat and veg, but doesn’t taste too oily.
The stuff were nice. The pudding was cute but a bit tooo sweeeet~

Came here after a lot of recommendations. I was told to try chicken because it’s awesome. I booked and arrived and they were nice to give tea as it was freezing today.
I ordered Taiwanese sausage fried rice, popcorn chicken original style and beef soup. Also beer with sour plum.
Fried rice was nice but something you can make at home too with sausage and mayonnaise and tonkatsu sauce and crumb and pieces of vegetables. 3/5. Popcorn chicken was awesome with great flavour and had some cinnamon after taste 5/5.Beef soup was very tasteless and if you follow me you know I warn you against Chinese style soup. This is it don’t try the beef soup. 1/5.
Beer with plum was nothing special . Staff are friendly and nice place . A bit overpriced I think.
Average.
Jennie Kosasih
Best taiwanese restaurant in Melbourne! I can’t recommend it enough! Volcano spicy pop chicken was cooked to perfection with the right amount of spicy and five spice calamari was really delicious as well. The main dishes and the fried rice went well together. I also love how friendly and helpful the staffs were. They were very accommodating and polite. Can’t wait to be back!!!
Food For Thought
Do reserve a table at this place which is very busy and efficient. What stood out for me was Mama's fried chicken which was crunchy, delicious and flavoursome with the special mayo sauce. The thai milk tea panna cotta with green tea icecream was worth the plate-licking. So creamy and the different tea flavours surprisingly complimented each other extremely well.
The Hand That Bites
Excellent fried chicken, even when ordered from Uber eats. Peko Peko has some of the best fried chicken that I've tasted in Melbourne.

The chicken is crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and the portions are very generous. It's not cheap, but it's worth paying the extra for the amount of food that you get. I've not tried anything other than the famous fried chicken, but it's what they are known for locally.

I'm currently on a fried chicken mission, so hopefully I'll be able to return again soon.
Eve Bell
Booked for 6 30 and was told once we got there we had to leave by 7 15. Staff did not communicate and were not very accomodating. Much better Korean places in Melbourne!!!!
Viv OY
Very small and cramp dining seating arrangements, every time the wait staff walked past, they would bump into my chair.
The food was alright, although not very authentic Taiwanese. The beef noodle soup was lacking in flavour, as was the mince beef rice.
The fried pop chicken was nice.
The desserts were overpriced for the size.
I probably wouldn’t go back, seeing how there are much better, more authentic Taiwanese places in Melbourne - better value too.
Simmyeats.Melb
I had dinner with a girlfriend here recently, luckily we arrived early as we didn't have a booking and most tables were reserved. Once we were seated the restaurant soon filled up, this was around 6pm on Friday night.

Service was very good and so was the menu, however I do feel I ordered the wrong thing. My friend and I ordered the beef about and whilst the ingredients were good quality I found the broth very strong and overpowering. This may be how the soup is supposed to be, unfortunately after a while it al tasted the same and I couldn't finish it off. This is my own preference, others may enjoy and I will most certainly come back to try something else.

The restaurant was clean and nice ambiance, the food on the other tables looked good and I look forward to coming back again soon.
April_eats
Great place with tasty food that I would definitely recommend to others. We had the noodle clear soup, very tasty broth, noodles cooked to perfection and some fresh spring onions. The chicken ribs were full of flavour but a little on the greasy side, 4 in a serve, probably won’t order them again. The honey beef was crispy and saucy, sweet with a little kick of spicy, my favourite dish of the night. The sweet and sour chicken was crunchy and great sauce, Cantonese style just like back in the UK. The house fried rice was excellent. Will certainly be back again.
Debby
One of the oldest establishment in the South Melbourne area serving contemporary Taiwanese food. This place is always busy on the weekend so remember to book ahead. Their mince mince is cooked and seasoned nicely. The cold noodle comes in a heavy sesame sauce but the fried tofu and veggies makes it feel lighter to eat.
Kiffdcosta
This place had some amazing food! Was super impressed. Defs get some type of chicken here. Get a few things to share because there’s so much to choose from. Great spot for a date
Vearn888
I can't tell whether it is authentic Taiwanese food but they are very tasty. Must try all the chef's recommended dishes. The price is a bit above average but definitely worth it!!! Will visit again very soon

Came here for a BFF Catch Up one day for Lunch and Peko Peko really dishes up some amazing Taiwanese food!
We had the Taiwanese Fried Rice and Five Spice Fried Calamari dishes and were really excited about the delicious combination of the two! I don’t know how the chef managed to incorporate crispy into the fried rice, but that definitely happened!

Would be back here for sure!

This restaurant is a life saver within the area. It’s hard enough to find a great place to eat in this area and I’m glad that Peko Peko provides a decent meal without being too expensive.
Tanya Iyer
Went there for lunch on a Saturday, was greeted by Lovely and courteous staff. Do try the stir fry vegetable and chicken pops. The dessert is out of this world! Perfect brownie and Thai milk panacota with some green tea icecream.
Eating Away Melbourne
Peko Peko has always been one of my favourites, some times you just crave for some of those street style asian food! Had the taiwanese sausage fried rice again (had this every single time), also tried the new crispy calamari curry, very strong flavour but I love it. After the mains we had the milk tea panna cotta, it was so good! They are so busy so make sure you get in early!
Jamie
Went for dinner tonight and was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Having a Taiwanese boyfriend and having been to Taiwan before, our expectations were pretty high after having our entree (the taiwanese sausage) as it was delicious, flavourful and very authentic! We also ordered the beef noodle soup, soft shell crab brown fried rice and the pop chicken. Though the food didn’t meet our expectations following the strong start, all the dishes were still good - just nothing memorable or amazing.
The beef noodle soup was not as flavourful and rich as we were hoping it would be (like its traditional counterpart), the pop chicken though well seasoned and juicy had no crispy crunch at all as we’d hoped, and we wished the sauce on the soft shell crab had also been drizzled over the rice as it was delicious, stood out and gave it more flavour.
Service was attentive and fast, and there was a pleasant, casual, cosy atmosphere in the simply decorated restaurant. Enjoyed the experience and would probably return to try out other dishes; a safe, solid, casual dining-out option.

This place is always busy during dinner time. The food quality is good. Price is a little bit expensive. I’ve tried the pop chicken, spicy chicken, stir fry veggie, the staff meal. The service was quick and efficient.
Laura Baker
Best fried chicken in Melbourne!! I love the Singapore noodles and the sesame broccoli. I haven’t had a bad dish here ever and have been about 10 times!! Very tasty however make sure you book!
Jesse Jem
We got the famous pop chicken, pork dumpling, soft shell seafood brown rice (which was amazing!!) and the crispy honey beef (too salty for me). The serving size is good as well 😊
Melbourne To Mouth
Totally reasonably priced and cute little spot for both a quick lunch and a fun dinner, Peko Peko is a fave for our work lunch stops. Their pop chicken is high on my list of ‘must do’ dishes if you’re there and honestly there’s enough food there to satisfy two hungry stomachs. It’s an adorable, bustling little joint in a random south Melbourne strip of eateries but is easily the most popular and well known. Booking is usually essential but you could try your luck at getting a table on a less busy day. Take away lunches are also good value and their daily specials will keep people coming back. If you’re in the area - a must try.

Have frequented this restaurant for the past 5 years. Absolute value! Fresh produce, variety of dishes. Staff are alway accommodating and friendly.

Food is great, but not their booking system. When we booked a table for 3 , how can they add a chair to a table of 2 and ask us to sit there. It was so congested.
Then what is the point of booking a table ?

So delicious! Every dish was fresh, hot and tasty. Loved the popcorn chicken, calamari and pork dumplings! Friendly and fast service. Loved it.

Just been there last night, the service was great and the menu was easy to understand with English/Chinese.

Yeah, the Taiwanese food just like a style combination of Chinese, Japanese and South Asian.

As a Taiwanese, this restaurant is quite authentic as compares with Taiwanese local cuisine in spite of it is located in Melbourne, it is a must place to visit where it can truly impact your impression of Taiwanese cuisine.

By the way, they offer the Taiwan Beer too!

Yesterday was my second time eating Taiwanese food and I really enjoyed it!
I’ve been hearing about this place from a few Taiwanese friends for quite a while and I finally decided to pay a visit. Definitely worth my 50min drive! Food is pretty traditional and very tasty. Favourite dish: bang bang squid!

Sooo surprise that Melbourne has this fabulous Taiwanese cuisine, and that is why soooo many people waiting in lunch and dinner time.

They open at 5pm, remember to book a table through Zomato or you might have to wait for a long time.

Also they need you finish your dinning in 2 hours, I think the time is enough if you are not going to hold a party there.

The sausage fried rice is great. Highly recommend!
Ginger beef has the tradition Chinese cuisine taste it is a good choice. And the Chicken no adjective can describe. In a word, best Taiwanese restaurant in Melb ;)

South Melbourne's gem. It is a small yet cozy restaurant, but the food is definitely 100! First time trying Taiwanese food and I absolutely love it :)

Amazing place, had some of the best friend chicken I've ever tatsed, their custard fried chicken blew my tatsebuds away, their deep fried beef was also incredibly delicious, do yourself a favour and try it
Had a lovely dinner here! Came in a group of 40+ and had a set menu which we really enjoyed. Highlights for us were the scallop skewers, bang bang squid and soup dumplings. Would pass on the soy fish next time, didn’t taste fresh and we were unsure what kind of fish it was. Also be prepared that most of the dishes are deep fried, not for the health conscious among us ;) Staff were friendly and took great care of us, can’t wait to be back! 👍🏻

Really enjoyed my experience at Peko Peko. The interior is really cute and cosy and the waitresses are friendly. The menu is a good size.
The steamed juicy pork dumplings are delicious, as is the spring rolls and the salt and chilli calamari ( although it needed some more chilli). For mains we ordered crispy pepper beef, steamed soy ginger fish and teriyaki chicken. Love how they seem to make it healthy as possible, as it didn't taste like it had msg and was not greasy and there was veggies served on the side of each dish ( which I loved). The beef was definitely my favourite, just delicious. The fish was fresh and well cooked although the sauce was a little lacking in ginger flavour. I would not order the chicken teriyaki again, this was also lacking in flavour and the chicken was a little fatty. Overall can't wait to come back to try more and highly recommended.

My first impression with Peko Peko is its cute and cozy setting. Their menu is of good size with a variety of appetisers and main for you to choose from. The rest is Taiwanese and Japanese fusion. Here are the food that we ordered and the verdict:
- prawn with wasabi mayo: i feel that nothing can go wrong with this combination. They were born to be together. Their wasabi mayo sauce was well seasoned, u got a mild kick of the wasabi, not too strong where in my case it could have been stronger as I’m a big fan of wasabi :)) the addition of a small piece of pineapple added the sweetness and freshness, helps balance the richness from mayo and fried prawn.
- scallop and Taiwanese sausages in chilli mayo sauce. Another good combination between scallop and sausage. The sauce was a bit too sweet for me, just a bit. I would prefer more of a chilli kick. Having said that, it was still a pleasant bite. A simple dish well made, just like the first one.
- nori dumpling with garlic sauce: compliments for their sauce. The fact that they use fried garlic added a bit of the crunch to the sauce. And the smell of fried garlic elevated the sauce flavours. Dumplings were delicate, well made, juicy. I just couldn’t find any nori :))
- soft shell crab fried rice: yum yum yum. I love the fact that they used brown rice for this dish. Sometimes white rice can be mushy when fried, brown rice on the other hand holds its form better and i just love its chewy texture. My friends said this is a bit salty but it was fine by me.
- mama fried chicken: if you have a chance to visit this rest, try their chicken. Crunchy batter, juicy chicken and flavoursome sauce binding all together. It was my most fav dish of the night.
- garlic pepper beef: a burst of flavours. Deep fried beef strip tossed in garlic and pepper sauce. It was hot because of the pepper, but delicious.
- earl grey pana cotta with sesame ice cream, cheesecake with matcha ice cream. Love their dessert. Ice cream was light, creamy, good kick of match and sesame.
All in all, a good experience for us. The price is lining toward the higher end, about $40 per pers incl drink. But they have some unique favours there. Make sure u book, cuz this place is usually packed.

I love most of all the food and dessert that I ordered, especially the matcha ice cream and black sesame#ithink. The service was good too. The price is reasonable enough. I got seafood ravioli, pop chick, black beans fish, stir fried vegie, 5 spice calamary, mince mince, mama chicks, peko sausage, big boss fried rice, and black sesame also greentea ice cream on dessert. Can’t really remember which one is my fav and the best, but overall was mouthwatering. One of my favourite asian food so far.

This Taiwanese-Japanese fusion restaurant was a huge surprise and I wasn't expecting it to work as well as it did. The chicken was easily my fav but the other dishes were pretty good too. Will definitely be back to try more.

I came here on a weekday for dinner. The place became quite busy after 6pm. The service was decent. Foodwise, there were far too much fried food on the menu. After a while, everything tasted similar. However, I did enjoy the crispy beef and noodle soup.
