Review Melba Restaurant - Melbourne

Jen G
We’ve been to Melba on a couple occasions. It is quite pricey for the dinner menu but the food is nice. We particularly enjoyed the live cooking and sushi station which heightened the experience. The service was slightly on the slower side

First time set on my feet at Melba restaurant, I felt a warm ambience as well as warm greetings from the staff. I had reserved by the window seat for three, where I can see Yarra River and Southbank. The dining area is not big, compare to Conservatory restaurant in Crown. However, this is closer to the buffet station. I really enjoyed my lunch buffet experience here especially the grilled and seafood selection. Last but not least, we could take as many beautiful shots as we want in the iconic Langham hotel. Don't forget to check the pink phone box in the lobby as well as the pink cab in front of the entrance.

I had the buffet breakfast and it was really good. It has the normal problems of a buffet such as waiting in lines, waiting for food to come out and temperatures not always being hot. But it has a great range of options to choose from including a traditional western breakfast, continental breakfast and Asia specific such as miso soup. It also has a salad and juice bar. Plus the staff are super friendly.

Loved it! Had my birthday lunch here and there is a variety of foods to choose from. The roast pork belly and lobster and the baby octopus yum! Also love how the dessert is in bite size pieces so you can choose more than one 🤣😋 and the chocolate fountain 🤤

The location, service, and dining experience is 5 star. However the food is 4star. Its a little over rated. Especially when you are paying $150 pp. Smoked salmon- beautiful Unagi- Very nice Salmon Sashimi- not as fresh as some other 5star japanese restaurants Oysters- Very Fresh Prawns- A little over cooked and chewy Sashimi platter- very nice, good presentation Lobster tails- a little dry, (not as fresh as you would want) Duck Pancakes- hardly any duck meat inside Dessert- they didnt replace the vanilla ice cream for ages apple tart was frozen inside pudding- beautiful rasberry + berries mix- so yummy Hot food (great selection and variety of indian, itallian, chinese, cuisine but couldnt fit any more in my stomach after eating all the seafood) All in all- its a beautiful fine dining experience for adults and date night! Wouldn't go there (all the time) There are other fine dining restaurants in melbourne that have a higher quality seafood buffet for sure.

Had the buffer dinner for an Xmas party and thoroughly enjoyed the selection of mouth watering food on offer. The entrance had a beautiful display worthy of a vogue magazine cover so definitely bring your camera too, preferably pics before food!

Really good quality buffet. Cook to order steaks, lamb ragu, sushi, fried noodles. Butter lobsters, prawns, oysters, carvery, Peking duck , made to order naan bread, assortment of curries and array of desserts and chocolate fountain. My recommendation is to go during Monday to Thursday.

Amazing lipsmacking food, theres all kind of cuisine available from seafood to vegen to aisan continental, sushi, desserts, Indian buffet, salads, all types of meats and bbq also available, I felt 2 hours time for a seating is less they should extend it to 3 hours, if you're there for an experience 2 hours would be less, but otherwise worth the money for any special occasion, especially when you have an event and want to ensure there's somwthing for everyone to relish.

I was treated to what was supposed to be a 5 star dinner but I was highly disappointed. The crabs were so tiny you couldn't get any meat out of them at all, meet was quite dry and tasteless and the deserts were much the same with the exception of good quality chocolate on the fondue fountain. I had previously written to the restaurant asking for consideration for that fact that I have had gastric sleeve surgery and could eat only an entree size portion of food, and even though I had made two future bookings for different occasions they were unable to make any exceptions or concessions. There is a lot of hype about this place and although I was looking forward to treating my family to the experience I won't be wasting the $99pp.

Been at least ten times however I’m not coming back unless I hear it improves $115 per head staff were faultless very attentive all round Dirty spoon when I sat down with old food caked on Dirty bowl when my daughter went to get dessert I can’t even remember having to return cutlery anywhere for a long long time Small flies all over the strawberries The Indian food was the best the rest of the food was dry and very average I think we will stick to the conservatory Decor and Xmas decorations were beautiful

Usually love Melbas, but the service at breakfast was not great. Firstly shown to a table right next to one being set up so left to stand around waiting while they moved chairs/brought in high chairs etc. Not a big deal but the restaurant was almost empty - why not seat us at one of the other tables? Then the server poured tea not coffee (and then when we explained we wanted coffee replaced these but served it in tea cups). Also it would help if servers are taught the knife and fork conventions for paused, finished etc. It would save them continually trying to take my (still semi-full) plate away! Also some of the self serve options were difficult to manage. E.g. the cooked mushrooms were served in a pan with a lid that needed to be lifted (e.g. not one with a hinge) and then a serving spoon. But there was nowhere convenient to place the plate in order to serve oneself. A place to put the lid, the plate, or a third hand was required! Food itself was good but these little things left the overall experience down.

The food was very nice and tasty. Variety of food was very good. Desserts were great too. Nice setting, decor looking a bit tired, however clean and relaxing atmosphere. It’s a tad expensive so go with an empty stomach. Staff were friendly enough, however a little bit slow on clearing the table. Definitely worth a visit.

I organised a surprise buffet breakfast for my bestie and my 8 year olds bday to be highly disappointed today. We chose Melba’s because it was aimed at kids with the choc fountain and “smoothies” from the menu I looked up before booking which is on the websites advertised. To be told when we got there we will be charged for the kids smoothies and was charged at $10 a smoothie. I could get an alcoholic drink for that price. Absolutely disgusted. The service was not 5 star service either and noticed majority of people were in thongs and casual attire. We were also told to get there no later than 8.30am when people were strolling in up till 9.30am. Definitely not worth the price we paid and very disappointed:-(

Workplace Christmas dinner,we had the late setting at 8:30pm,staff were in a rushed must be tired and a bit rude, also some food needs to be refilled, per head dinner was expensive, I was not wow with the buffet food,am not sure if I wanted to come back again

Melba Brasserie is my fav place to eat such variety. and not limited to certain things. Great for family celebrations or if you OS tourists etc. Wonderful for all with food requirements etc. Something for everyone. Alcohol prices are very expensive so I only have 1 glass of wine at $16.00 per glass is a little over the top . Otherwise I really love it. Maggie

My husband and I have experienced the breakfast buffet twice while staying at the hotel and had great food and service, so for our anniversary we thought we'd try the evening buffet (Saturday night) very busy, all tables taken, but the food kept being topped up, the wait staff very polite and promptly taking away dirty dishes, a good variety of different cuisines, so you can try things that you wouldn't normally, we've eaten in many restaurants along Southbank and in my opinion this one is a bit expensive for what it is.

We dined there yesterday evening as it was our wedding anniversary, we have dined there many times before, it's our favourite restaurant, the food is always fresh and tasteful, just remember to fast for 24 hours before going there to get your money's worth as there is plenty to choose from.

Me and my beautifully stunning girlfriend went for the lunch yesterday and we ate until we actually lost our vision and the use of most of our limbs. The food was incredible and the the staff were great to. Big ups to the lady who was preparing the duck pancakes ! She knows what's up. The variety was huge and so fresh, some of the prawns winked at me and we stayed for 2 hours and went through most of the menu. 5 stars easily achieved.

We had lunch here yesterday 1st they changed our voucher from high tea to lunch which was great. ( we paid the difference) the food and service were amazing we couldn't fault it. I would highly recommend Melba

Celebrated our 22nd Wedding Anniversary...from the moment we arrived to departure we were treated with upmost professionalism and care...appreciation especially to the gentleman that we were greeted by and the head chef...outstanding! Thankyou Bernadette and Paul

Thank you to the wonderful staff that looked after our party of 14 for breakfast to celebrate our friend Anne’s 60th birthday.Thank you for the lovely complimentary cake which was so beautiful.Thank you again for making it all so special for everyone.

My most recent visit to Melba, 2.5 months ago, was really disappointing. Quality seems to have dropped a lot. I have been attending Melba around 4-6 times a year for the past 7 years and slowly pulling back as the last few times have been hit and miss. Still a great beautiful venue with great staff. I wish I could say 3.5/5 as I don’t think it is quite 4 based on what would be expected for the cost.

One of the best buffets I have ever been to!

A lot of choice. From sea food to meat to stir fry’s!

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

Delicious and well worth the money.

Would go back!

Seafood always good though found a couple of oysters that have gone bad.
Peking duck usually good but this time the skin is a bit too dry and tough but filling is good as usual.

Dessert need a lot of improvement though. A few years back they used to use Gondowring Ice cream which was good but these days the ice cream is of a generic quality. The mini cakes and desserts foes not shout Langham where its known for the high tea. The creme caramel is too eggy and overdone. The cakes are just so-so in terms of taste and quality. It will be really good to use better quality ingredients for the desserts and to increase the overall quality of desserts.

Really enjoyed the special menu we tried for Lunar New Year - creative and delicious dishes. The Langham always does their themed events so well. We also grabbed some items from the buffet - love the raw bar, especially the fresh oysters and the m&m naans freshly made from the station.

We were lucky to experience their amazing Lunar New Year celebration! Enjoying the Dragon shaped sushi which was awesome, and of course you have to have the famous Yee Sang salad which tasted amazing! Why can’t I have this every day? Of course we threw it in the air for good luck! The Chilli wontons with the freshly handmade wonton! I tried unagi which tasted great, think I was lucky to try at such a good restaurant! But I adored the Lobstor noodles, feel free to permanently put that on your menu! They also have a fantastic buffet with stunning and delicious food! Highly recommend treating yourself!

A few years ago I would’ve given this place 4-5 stars. Unfortunately recently service was a bit lacking with some poor communication and table management. The host and maître d’ were fantastic and welcoming however, as well as the chefs behind the food areas. The food was mainly average at best, except for the sushi bar and Indian which were on point. The sashimi in particular was amazing. The dessert was awful - plain and tasteless, with pastry too hard to cut through - like airplane food from the 80s. The coffee was below average. Overall a bit disappointing, especially for a place with the most exquisite views and interiors! Definitely not worth the price. Hope they improve.
Chloe
Came with a very high expectation ($119 per person) but quite disappointed. It did not worth the price tag at all...

Pros
- lobster with cheese, sea urchin and oysters (albeit small oysters) are nice
- waiters seem nice

Cons
- the rest of the food are quite average. Tried almost all the dessert and found them quite disappointing...
- tuna is not very fresh
- the wrap around pecking duck turned cold and got hard to eat
- even the earl grey tea is average...

Not worth the price at all!! Please don’t go and waste your money.
Lynn
I went here with very high expectations, but it didn’t quite live to the hype of the reviews on Zomato.
The food was okay, but for $115pp for what you got in return? It didn’t seem quite worth it. The cooked meats section was quite dry — the Peking duck and chicken dumplings were perhaps the only exception in that section.

The dessert section looked promising, however, continued to disappoint. This opinion seemed to be universal amongst other tables, as many plates that were taken away were stacked with the deserts that were half-eaten or given a bite or two. However, the passion fruit and cream in a cup was quite delicious.

The only section I enjoyed was the seafood and sashimi bar. However, there isn’t quite unique about serving raw seafood — you can find this anywhere else too.

Perhaps, this place would be worth going at a lower price pp; so opt to come check this place out at lunch on a weekday. There are definitely other buffet places that offer a better variety of food at a lower, more competitive price.

If you want to go to an all you can eat restaurant where your food can be made fresh and have a variety of options, this is the place. The interior is not as modern compared to conservatory but the quality of food is better. As a sushi lover, the sushi bar was one of the highlights. The chefs are also on standby who can cook you steak on the spot or pasta on the list. Would go again.

A fantastic Buffett of all varieties.. I loved everything, especially the sashimi bar. We had a work lunch here and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious and a lot available.

Great place not cheap but the quality of food is good with great service. A good variety of foods and an extensive drinks menu everything we ate was fresh.

I been here many times over the years for dinner, and came here tonight for dinner for the 5:00pm to 7:30pm session. The Indian supervisor (I don’t know his name) that serve me and my family when we check in in the front was talking in a rude way to me because he was trying to find my name for the booking and it took time for him to find it and there was a lot of people waiting to come in so he seem stress. That turn me off and ruin my mood while I was there and he shouldn’t be talking to customer in a un patient way especially Langham is a 5 star hotel and should be having good service. What ever his problem is, he should still be professional and nice to customer and not be rude and arrogant. We pay like around $130 per person because it didn’t include drinks. The food was similar to every other time, I like the seafood, and the Indian food section and desserts is just average. Our wait staff was nice and the chef was nice too. The price has gone up a little bit, and it similar to the price of conservatory buffet. I been to conservatory so many time and I think conservatory has better food and good service too and it’s just down the road.

Favourite place to eat in the whole entire world! If you want a great dining experience & great food you should come here. The atmosphere of the place is magical. It is so gorgeous & you have gorgeous views of Melbourne. The food is extraordinary! Such a great range of choices. My favourite was all the meat plus the Peking duck crepes, they were to die for. Also who doesn’t love a chocolate fountain for dessert? The lemon meringue was pretty good to. The service was without a doubt the best service I have ever received. You feel like royalty!

We had to try the buffet breakfast here, it was in the entertainment book and was just phenomenal! One of my favourite buffers to date, has everything you could ever want in a breakfast!!!

I had an amazing breakfast buffet experience in Melba when I was staying in Langham. The variety they offer for breakfast is amazing and is a complete delight to the taste buds. This breakfast is a must experience.

Melba has always been my favourite buffet in Melbourne. It's always fresh, plentiful and varied. They label things well and there's truely something for everyone. They do great Indian food, great sushi, beautiful pastas and salads and fish and the most delicious desserts. It's pricey, but I think there's definite value here. The staff are always friendly and helpful and it's a perfect spot if you have a special occasion or just a treat for a change for lunch or dinner.
HOWEVER ... that being said. We just came here again for the first time in a while for a very special occasion. We made the booking for 8 people. When we booked over the phone, they didn't once say that since we are coming for lunch and having guests, the best thing to do would be valet park with the hotel for a flat rate of $19. No. They didn't tell us that. Instead, we paid $75 - yes $75 - for just over three hours of parking with Wilson. It is daylight robbery and should be regulated. The hotel lost that business by not disclosing it to us, and instead our money went to Wilsons. But the thing is, when they know you're hosting guests, the least they can do is verbalise that on the phone with you at the time.
Otherwise, the day went smoothly (other than the idiot waiter who told us our table was the one "over there with all the big balloons" on it after we urged him to keep it subtle as the guest of honour was with us as a surprise ...), and I recommend the lunch here for sure. Just be sure to NOT park downstairs unless you valet.
Good Food Good Mood
We visited Melba’s last week for my dads birthday and I have a feeling the chefs have changed as we were really impressed on this occasion. The noodle dishes available at the wok station were super yummy, the freshness of the sashimi and the deliciousness of the chocolate passion cheesecake. The other desserts failed to delight which was disappointing for the price point and fell a little short relative to its previous gold standard but overall we were pretty happy

Update
I have been coming to Melba’s regularly for over ten years. Our visit for my sisters birthday last week however was one of the more disappointing trips. Being around the Christmas period it was completely packed and they attempted to seat us at on a couch style set up.

Given its a buffet two three seaters either side of a table is not exactly conducive to constantly getting up and down to replenish your plate. In my family this would mean the poor middle person would be climbing over people are ten minutes. They eventually put some other tables together and found as an alternate which was good.

What was not so good was the food. The prawn dumplings were so super stuck together that when I tried to seperate them as I served myself they all fell apart. All of us agreed the food variety wasn’t as impressive as usual.

Updated review
Has been about 18 months since my review was posted for here so thought it was worth revisiting as my dining experience on Wednesday night proved the one critique I had last time has been rectified. In the past the desserts have been visually stunning but lacking in taste. This week we had an exceptionally delicious chocolate and passionfruit eclair, a chocolate pudding, red velvet cake, raspberry chocolate mousse slice and mini lemon meringue pies just to name a few which were all super yummy. Well done all for lifting the already superlative standards

Original review
I've probably been here 20 plus times in the last ten or so years. It's pretty much the scene of every family birthday and it never disappoints. It's fairly standard to feel physically unwell for several hours afterward if you chose to dine buffet and have minimal self control like me. Not sure why anyone would actually go here and prefer a la carte as the variety is ridiculous.

They have a live sushi/sashimi station, a hot noodle station as well as a pasta station, a grill where you can get a steak made to order and an Indian station where you can order a fresh naan with your choice of inclusions. There is also a salad section, carvery and cheese station but most people pay the fairly hefty prices for the unlimited seafood.

It's probably more of a special occasion place given you are paying between $85-95 per person depending on the day you dine but it's definitely worth it. My only criticism is the desserts leave a little to be desired. This is the one area I have seen deteriorate over the years but they do have a Cadbury chocolate fountain and connoisseur ice cream.

Some photos from my latest visit on the weekend and some others I dug up from when I went on the 4th of July as the American Oreo cupcakes were just too cute

I absolutely love coming to Melba as I know I’m about to have a delicious feast of options thrown at me!

The last few years I’ve dined here on my birthday and each time it just gets better!

Lots of delicious and yummy breakfast options, from everything you can possibly think of plus more!

I got a fresh omelette cooked to order; you can even add what ingredients you can add to it to personalise it to your taste buds which is such an awesome option! They can even make the omelette just out of egg whites if that’s what you prefer also!

Absolutely fabulous and faultless here!
Highly recommend
Bun's Food Diaries
Came here to celebrate my birthday earlier this month. Service was great, staff were polite and patient explaining the options available for the night. The oysters while small, were full of flavour. The crab was probably my least favourite because it really lacked flavour. We had the chow kway teow and naan made on the spot. Both were really quite wonderful. We also had sashimi which felt fresh. I felt the selection of desserts was plentiful but nothing stood out as particularly special, especially at this price range. View of the Yarra River from our table was a bonus. Do note that drinks are a separate charge.

We have been coming to Melba for over 25 years. It is probably our favourite restaurant in Melbourne. The selection of food never fails to please. The service is excellent and the ambience is very pleasant. I preferred the choice of roast meats they used to have a few years ago however the selection of food now is high quality and there is a vast selection. It is on the expensive side but never fails to impress.
Emily
Melba has a nice variety of food, however, I found that the overall quality has gone down recently. The sashimi bar and naan station are great. Unfortunately, the Peking duck station is no longer as good due to the duck being overcooked and tough. The main dishes available are roast meats, Indian dishes, and cooked to order noodles.

Dessert spread was nice and varied, however, the fruit selection could be improved.

There were some issues with bowls not being available for the dessert and ice cream stand, so we had to use miso soup bowls. More tongs should also be provided at the dessert stand.
Anisha
Eating dinner here was a journey in itself. I was so full by the end of it, I must have rolled out of the restaurant. Service was great and the team really made us feel special by placing an anniversary gift on our table. The Indian station was my favourite, followed by desserts station and pasta bar.
Jenn
Went awhile back for dinner, just recently got back into using Zomato so this is a late review.

There wasn’t much choice, desserts were average at best, was expecting better taste & quality from an expensive buffet. Some of the dishes weren’t very fresh, or tasted average at best. Some just weren’t doing it for me.

I didn’t end up eating much due to the taste & quality + limited choice, so I felt that it was quite a waste.

Atmosphere and service was good though.

High tea still has its place, not a cheap afternoon out but well worth the treat.
Love old school.
Cake, more cake and a well made brew
I recommend requesting a window seat over the river

My partner and l visited Melba restaurant located inside the Langham Hotel Melbourne for one of their special nights and we were certainly not dissapointed. The table we sat at was overlooking the yarra river and accessable to the enourmous selection of fine food. From the freshest seafood hot and cold dishes from around the world we certainly did not leave hungry. If you love Indian, Japanese, chinese or a carvey this restaurant had it all. The service was excellent and the food was consistently topped up with fresh cooked product. I have been to the restaurant on a couple of occassions now and will certainly be back. It is also a great price at $96.00 a head which also gave you a huge selection of cray fish, blue spanner crabs, mussels, oysters and sashimi. This is on top of a large array of salads and desert.

We dined here on the weekday lunchtime session. Staff and chefs were lovely, tentative and provided excellent customer service. There was a good selection of roasts, salads, cheeses and desserts. I'm not a big fan of seafood, sushi or sashimi but there was a decent variety. There were cooking stations for pasta, steak, noodles and laksa.

The roasts really stood out, all well cooked and seasoned. The roast pork, wow, the skin was perfectly crispy and when bitten into the fat would melt in your mouth. I made the rookie mistake by having penne carbonara first up. It was delicious but I was too full to eat much else. The curries were toned down and needing to be bolder. Desserts were nice, the cakes tasted even better when left to warm to room temp.

Overall, it was great food.

Great selection for dinner. Loved sashimi section. Hot food selection limited.
Decor and layout of place is good
Drink selection also good

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 3/5

My expectations coming in were low, but they were exceeded. The best night to come is on a Tuesday for lobster night. The little of the Indian section I tried was surprisingly good, with the roti bread from the tandoori oven being delicious. The seafood was of average quality I must say, which for a buffet is not surprising. Although the lobster was nice, it was made in a mornay style for us. The meat was quite nice highlighted by the pork belly and lamb; although the roast vegetables were average. Dessert was quite nice, standard for a buffet. All in all, a good meal, not something I’d go to regularly, maybe once a year.
AaronN
I don't quite get all the positive reviews. We came here for buffet dinner, and found the selection limited, food very average tasting (reminiscent of food court quality), and for the exhorbitant price you pay, totally not worth it. Decor also very tired looking too.

The buffet at Melba is pretty good in terms of their selection of cuisines.

The seafood was fresh (loved the sashimi and mussels!). The crab had a lot of meat too.

I enjoyed their live cooking stations (pasta, steak, naan). Their gnocchi was good - I asked for extra cheese which is a must! The naan station was my FAVE! I kept going back for more of the cheese and garlic naan. They also have sweet options like m&m’s which was really popular with the kids.

For dessert, I enjoyed their freshly made waffles. I’m a sucker for waffles - and I topped mine off with chocolate from their choc fountain!

Whenever you think buffet, you think shitty food that leaves you feeling ill.
But not at Melba. Yes, it is not a cheap buffet but it is worth every cent. The sushi bar and seafood itself makes it worth the money. Every time we’ve been here, the quality of food has been phenomenal with made to order pasta, noodle and sushi bars. Can’t wait for my next visit to Melba.

We had a family breakfast on Saturday morning. I hadn't been there for quite a number of years but the restaurant was the same & nothing had been updated. We paid $59 each for a buffet breakfast for a family of six & it was nothing special. Some of the staff seemed like they were just doing a job & had no enthusiasm. The views were fantastic & a nice morning spent with the family.

We went there for my partners birthday lunch. Really beautiful vintage style elegant interior overlooking the river. Staff were very professional, attentive & friendly! Sushi chef trained in Japan & sushi were amazing. Great selection of fantastic deserts. Tandoori kitchen was great & fresh. Great selection & quantity. Highly highly recommended! Overall service, ambiance, food quality & taste vs price gives an overall score of 4.5*

This was my 3rd visit! Everything is above standard, as what i expected.
Came during international waffle day! So everything got waffles and crab(?) all dish got crab! From asian - western all craaabb🦀 it was still a pleasant dinner :) totally worth $97/pp.
Picky But Fair
Been here 3 times with family over the years.
Good selection of quality food. Fresh shellfish (oyster, prawn, bugs), but stingy with Sashimi.
Freshly baked naan bread - disappointingly dry
Hot wok section - average
Ice cream selection with chocolate fondue - 2 flavours only (a let down)
Lack of variation over the years, beginning to feel overpriced.
China Bar Signature in Burwood has greater variety, equally good quality shellfish, and cheaper.

Unlikely to go again. If you only want oyster/prawns, there are cheaper alternatives.
Steven
Great food with a fantastic view in the seating area. Lots of different cuisines cooked fresh right in front of you. Our favourites were the stuffed naan bread and the sushi. Very friendly and helpful staff, however when we asked for more cutlery we were unfortunately ignored and didn't receive any. Besides that a great experience and well priced lunch.

This restaurant is rivaled by the reknowned conservatory and I would say it failed to impress as much as it should have.

The dishes were all pretty average except for the Asian chef who dished out stir fried dishes on the wok such as the seafood char kuay teow, and the Italian chef with her pumpkin gnocchi with cream and truffle sauce which hit the spot perfectly.

The lamb and beef meat were pretty decent, accompanied by the red jus, as was the seafood. However, they didn’t have oysters, advising me that the weather doesn’t allow it to be left out for too long. I guess it could have been set up in a way where they brought out oysters from their kitchen consistently, upon demand. It was a Sunday and there were only about 60 diners, probably only 1/5 of the capacity of the whole restaurant. So I am guessing that’s a poor excuse.

The Japanese section was pretty spot on, as you can’t really go wrong with sashimi anyway.

The Indian section was good, the dhal and the mutton curries were spectacular however the naan breads were a huge, huge let down. They were too thick and dry, didn’t taste anything like naan breads. I was expecting gorgeous naan breads coming out of the tandoor but it was disappointing.

The salad/antipasto section had a lot of variety but even then, the smoked salmon and prosciutto were far from fresh. You could taste that they have been left out for a while, probably previous night’s/lunch leftovers.

The ambience was fine, and the service was friendly and you could always depend on the waitress to freshen up the table each time you leave the table for the next round. However, the cutlery was never cleared. So imagine using the same pair of cutlery for every dish.

The cocktail( French passion ) was nice though.

In all, It was pretty disappointing given that it was $100 per head. It lacked value and care. I probably wouldn’t visit this place again since the competition nearby is too strong.

Came here for friends birthday last week.
The restaurant looks wooow amazing, very good view, plenty of food around.
I like how they divide it into a few cuisine and we get to taste different food.
However, the downfall is the oyster was not fresh at that night. some of them were slummy.
Kiwi Living In The Big Smoke
The food was all very nice, Its quite alot of money and you are just eating stuff to try get moneys worth in the end, I guess thats what a buffet is. I reckon this is more 3.5 stars.
I would go back if got a special or something but wouldnt rush paying full price.
Freshly made naan station was great!!
Petit Gastounet
Time again for a friend’s yearly Christmas treat buffet lunch. Not a fan of buffets for many reasons. The quality is often not high in comparison to the price. Sometimes the offerings are limited, sometimes overwhelming. More often than not you tend to overeat and feel bloated & heavy afterwards, which for me spoils the occasion. You are so stuffed all you want to do is throw your head back & sleep. Unfortunately for me, the offerings at Melba are pretty good. I planned how I was going to work that buffet without making myself ill.
First the seafood station...On offer were decent sized cooked prawns, mussels, crab, sashimi & made-while-you-wait sushi rolls. I kept it simple and went for a handful of prawns & a wedge of lemon. On our table there was a finger bowl of warm water & lemon and receptacle for your shells. The prawns were very fresh & plump and wetted my appetite for the next selection. I chose the antipasto & salad station. On offer were a plethora of salad options with various self serve dressings, sliced ham, smoked salmon, dressed shrimp salad, sesame oil infused soba noodle salad, antipasti that included sundried tomatoes, roasted capsicums, eggplant, a variety of olives and some of my most dreaded, tinned dolmathes. A small selection on an entree plate from this station made a light start. The mains stations included a carvery offering roasted chicken, lamb, belly pork, roast potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potato & various other veggies roasted or steamed. Next was an Asian station offering steamed dumplings, Peking duck pancakes, made to order noodles. An Indian station offering dhal, curried veggies, tandoori chicken, stuffed naan to order, a goat curry, rice, huge papadams & all the various condiments that accompany Indian cuisine. A selection of to order pasta dishes & grilled steak were also on offer. The selection was all too much to sample in one sitting. I opted to go an entree size plate each from the carvery & Indian and eschew the Asian station. I selected a small portion of each of the meats & veggies on offer. The meats were moist & tender. Lamb well cooked & still pinkish in the middle. Unfortunately the crackling on the pork belly wasn’t crisp but otherwise it was well cooked. Veggies were nice but not out of the ordinary. Getting to my limit appetite wise, I almost forwent the Indian food. I waited a long while before I could muster up having another plate of food. With my entree plate in hand I selected curried cauliflower, goat curry, a small tandoori chicken fillet, some steamed rice and a spinach & cheese stuffed naan cooked in the tandoor while I waited. Cauliflower was nicely cooked, chicken was moist & flavoursome and not coloured red. The goat curry was excellent - tender pieces on the bone in a rich, mildly spiced curry sauce. I wanted more than the couple of spoonfuls I put in my plate but that would have tipped me completely over the edge. The naan was delightfully charred & crisp in places & brushed lightly with butter, the filling light & delicious. It took another 20 minutes or so before I could contemplate looking at the dessert station. Not a sweet tooth anyway, I was pretty safe here. Quite a variety of miniature cakes, slices, meringues, desserts, puddings, ice cream & fresh fruit were on display...All too much for me. I chose from the meagre offering of fruit that consisted only of cut rock melon, cantaloupe & some plump juicy cherries. Both the melons were blah...I took a small dessert cup of Eton mess - raspberry or strawberry puree - I couldn’t tell - topped with fresh cream & fruit. Light & refreshing. That was it. Couldn’t eat another thing for the rest of the day!
Over all a great selection of good quality fresh food at a reasonable price. $67 pp for lunch Mon - Fri. Staff were brisk, efficient & friendly as they cleared the plates & topped up your water continuously. The location is excellent. If you can get a table by the window over looking the river & Flinders street station, even better. Melba is probably the best buffet I’ve tried to date.
Crabapples For Lunch
The last time I came here was quite some time ago, and I didn't have a particularly amazing impression of the place. We came here again after finding out that Conservatory at Crown no longer has their Friday night seafood buffet (well they do, but it's not called that anymore and there are no longer lobsters included in the buffet). As I mentioned in my other reviews of buffet places, these are rarely worthwhile in Melbourne, especially because few if any places include the big ticket items like lobster. Well, Melba does have lobster in their buffet (only on Tuesdays, and really nice ones at that), and boy did I wish I realised this sooner.

The place was a lot more grand than I remembered, which fits the description as Melba is famous in Melbourne for their legendary buffet. Service was prompt and attentive, much more than I expected and much better than at Conservatory. Our plates were cleared very regularly. There is a decent spread of food, and I can't tell if it's due to the layout or the clientele, but dining here didn't feel as much as a battle Royale as it did in Conservatory. The layout of the buffet was definitely a bit more spacious, but people also tended to be more civil. Perhaps it was partly due to it being a Tuesday unlike the Fridays at Conservatory.

There is a sashimi station which is nice (not present at Conservatory), but I must say the sashimi wasn't the most amazing. Cooked prawns were nice and fresh, and the smoked salmon was nice too. No cold scallops here though.

To eat your value's worth at a buffet you gotta be smart (i.e. not fill up on the filler material like carbs). That usually means eating a month's worth of seafood and a few lobsters for dessert. Well, I'm happy to say you may not need to do that here. Their lobsters are very decent sized (the same size you'd find in a regular restaurant ordering a la carte), and much larger than what Conservatory used to offer. They are grilled fresh to order on a hot flame (check out the photos), and are quite tender and juicy. They aren't the absolute best, but they're much better than many other places and most people should be quite happy with that. At that size and quality, you can eat a couple and get your money's worth and still have room to try out everything else on offer.

The other hot foods were also pretty nice. They even had char kuay teow with juicy prawns and scallops - the sauce was a little sweet for my liking but otherwise it was really nice. The dessert section was probably not as impressive as Conservatory's, but there is still quite a variety of mini cakes, a chocolate fountain, ice cream and they have a candy floss station which the competition doesn't have.

It isn't often that I would re-write a review from scratch but I think my visit to Melba was worth it. A lot of the value here is due to their lobster, so I hope they don't do what Conservatory did and take that away.

My partner took me to Melba on 2nd January to “start the year on the right foot”.

Having been to buffets in Las Vegas makes one very fussy, but Melba did measure to its reputation.

The service was good, but our waiter did say that him and his colleagues had a very long night at work on NYE and I could tell they were all very tired.

There’s a really good choice and almost everything is great!

My personal favourite was the Sushi/Sashimi Station - I could’ve happily just eaten that all night.

Least favourite - the Indian station. The tandoori chicken and salmon I got were both very dry and inedible. I got some goat curry, which was delicious.

My partner got half a lobster and, again, that was exceptionally dry. Again, I feel that that’s due to the staff being overtired.

We paid $250 + tip for the two of us, which included one glass of rosé and a rum & coke.

We went to Melba for Friday Dinner seafood buffet last night for celebrating my husband's birthday. the price is $125 pp as holiday rate. The seafood is beyond expectation. Very fresh and delicious. Nice place, good environment and friendly staff. Highly recommend for event.

Visited melba twice because my first experience there was absolutely amazing, however the second time there was a nightmare. Do not get me wrong, the service was great, the atmosphere and decor were 10/10; the food though, it was below expectations, the roast(lamb and pork belly) were dry and the sauces were bland. My girlfriend and I went on a Tuesday night for the lobster special, the chef steamed and grilled the lobster which was then drizzled with chimichurri or garlic butter(amazing presentation), the lobster s were overcooked and the outcome was chewy/dry/bland. (We also saw a customer returned a lobster back to the kitchen because it was served frozen)

The experience was dampened by the below par delivery of certain food, no doubt maybe the chef was just having a bad day and is a great chef other days; but this is dissappointing coming from a restaurant that has built quite a following for themselves.

Aside from the negativity, it is also worth mentioning that the seafood selection (oysters/prawns/mussels/crab/sashimi), dessert bar, cheese/cold appetizers were amazing. For seafood lovers, melba would be the best place to visit, but this should not be the first preference for non-seafood lovers.
Came for a Monday lunch with 15 Family members including children to celebrate birthdays and anniversary’s.
We all received welcome letters and cup cake gifts. Sadly no glass of champagne was offered when other places do.
Used valet parking .. only $19 if u eat at Melba... convenient and good value.

Food was very good. Big choice from Japanese to Indian as well as Chinese and a good Carvery with meats.

Sashimi and sushi are prepared fresh and well presented.
Rotti and Indian food is tasty as are the cheeses and starters.

Plenty of noodle and pasta dishes made fresh as ordered and a huge selection of mini cakes with a huge chocolate fountain makes the sweet tooth person happy.

Chefs at the stations were wonderful and obliging. They even assisted with gluten free meals when asked.

Only let down was table service.
You have to ask for cutlery to be replaced when you run out. Waiters take and clear the plates and cutlery between meals but don’t ask if you need clean cutlery or napkins. Drinks have to be asked for and when the waitress gave the drinks menu Only took an order from
One person and did not ask others if they wanted a drink. I think this is a training issue as much as a communication problem.

Lastly furniture in the dining room while practical is showing its age with scratches.

In brief we ate well and sat for over 3 hours and had a great time.

Melba has a reputation as being one of the best in Melbourne so decided to try the weekday lunch buffet. Was good value about $65.

The best part was the entree and main course selection. There was a variety of salads, antipasti, asian and indian section and just about every type of roast meat. Even a tandoor oven cooking fresh Naan bread to order!

They only negative was that they could have offered more selection of fish and better desserts. They offered prawns, crab and sashimi bar but would have been nice to have a few more items to uphold their strong reputation. The desserts were very ordinary, seemed bought in, would be better if they improved them again just to meet the high expectations I had before going in.

Excellent ambiance overlooking the city and Flinders Street Station with diners that appreciate the finer things. I will definitely return.

Best place to go to especially if you love seafood. Had the freshest oysters and sashimi here last night... and didn't even get to have the crabs, prawns, mussels, etc because I couldn't get enough oysters and sashimi! The other great thing about Melba is the freshly made naan. Oh my goodness. The garlic and cheese naan is TO DIE FOR! Gooey cheese on the inside surrounded by soft, fluffy and pillowy naan goodness. Naan other can compare!
Some Bunee Loves Food
One of my favorite buffets in Melbourne. Melba had fresh salmon and oysters, and yummy peking duck, roast meat and lots of dessert varieties. The m&m custom made naan bread is one of my favorites.
Alannah Reabrown
Loved it - best buffet! Great Seafood. Loved the deserts. Duck pancakes are epic! Will be back again :) 5 stars ****** try the M&M naan. Go on! Do it!
Brooke Koneska
Cake varieties was good, other food was bland very pricey. Very hard to get service when needed not to the standard i would expect for a 5 star restaurant
Alice
They have the dinner features for specific days on their website so it's useful for choosing which day to go. We went on a Tuesday night and the stations included sashimi, seafood, Indian food, Asian stir-fry, grilled lobster and sirloin steak, hot foods (roasted sirloin steak and lamb, five-spice duck wraps, and wings), pasta, salads, variety of marinated items and cheeses, and desserts.

Sashimi, seafood, stir-fry, grilled lobster, five-spice duck, cheeses, and the marinated items were good. The roasted and grilled sirloin steaks were a bit of a let-down. Enjoyed the chocolate fountain and only some of the cakes.

Service was a bit slow as there seemed to be only 2 servers in the main area. I think having a water dispenser for people to get their own water would be a good idea cause the cups were small and we felt bad having to ask the servers for constant refills.

Fantastic food and service love the fresh seafood their Indian food is very Australian indian not the real deal but their sushi section and desserts section is yumm

Always my top choice for a buffet. The Indian Naan is definitely my favourite. Char grilled section is a bit of a hit or miss, went on a night with grilled lobster, mine turned out very rubbery. Sashimi was pretty good as always, had heaps of fresh seafood. Will come back again!

All right here we go. One of my favourite places ever. I don’t eat beef, lamb or pork so I’m already limited but I attended a Friday lunch buffet and it was impeccable. Sushi so fresh and the sashimi was divine. Couldn’t tell you how many slices I had! Prawns were nice and big as well as so tasty. Then I moved onto some of the roast meat. The chicken was tender and made to perfection. Roast spuds, carrot and delicious gravy. Does it get any better? Yes it does. Made to order mee goreng was great, the cooks added just the right amount of chilli as well. My stomach had filled at this point but you can’t miss dessert! Beautiful little slices, I had as many of the chocolate ones as I could muster. All in all worth the money to treat yourself once in a while. Lovely staff and service, didn’t feel like I had to be super posh in there either.

It is not worth to spend 100 dollar to have a dinner. I do not feel it is five star buffet. Food are simple. No any point let me feel it is over four star in Zomato.
Went on a lobster dinner night. In the end, I probably ate more of the items because everything was so good! Thank you to all the staff for their great, friendly service.

Melba hasn't got a wide range of selections to be called as a buffet. To top it off, the idea of sashimi and peking duck having to be put on our plates, instead of us grabbing it for ourselves totally turned me off. Especially the chef (who is probably a chinese, pretending to be a Japanese) had such a bad look on his face while at work, he literally just chucked two or three slices of sashimi on diners' plates.. Shocking! I won't return again for sure.

With a touch of Spring in the air, Trudi decided to take me out to celebrate our first aniversarry. While most people would head for Champers and dinner, she knows me all to well, and so we head for the real king of meals: the buffet breakfast.

While a great meal in the evening can sometimes send you to sleep, a great breakfast has to set you up for the rest of the day. You cant eat too much - lots to do during the day - but the selection should always make you want to indulge.

According to her research, this is the nr 1 buffet in town and a good place to start our culinary exploration of melbourne. Surprisingly, you have to book in advance, and the reason for that becomes apparant, as the queue to find a table at 9:15 streches quite far back. Luckily our walk up the lovely staircase , past the beautiful water features, took place at 8:30. The dining space is large, with lots of tables looking out onto the yarra, but our luck was out and we were stuck quite far back. Shame.

You cant really judge service at a buffet. The staff were all very polite, but did suffer a bit from the "must remove all plates as soon as possible" mentality. What you can judge though are the staples; quality of the coffee, quality/freshness of the bread, quality of the pastries and the breadth of the selection.

The last point is the best, with a 5* selection of choices, eggs and pancakes cooked to order, juice machines to make your own fresh drink etc etc. Trudi, not known for her lover of all things healthy, even got seduced by the quality of the salad.

The other staples we not as good though. Coffees were passable (3*) while the oragane juice was better (3.5*). The selection of croisants and pastries was good, but they were not as light, crisp and fresh as expected (3*). Same goes for my bread selection, where my baguette had a good crunch, but was heavier and older tasting than expected. No idea if they are made on site, but if so, they need to be made nearer service.

Best part was actually the fruit tray, where my love for tinned peaches survived the shock that thye used fresh ones and made their own syrp.

Nice to see the chocolate fountian.

Overall its a 3,5* rating. Good, but they can do better.

Enjoyed the buffet , live counters , dishes are made to order and there is an extensive spread of deserts! A couple of hours is a must to taste most of the menu. Nice views of the Yarra a bonus !
Little Bit Of Everything
Me and my friend wanted to go for a Saturday buffet and this was convenient for us from where we lived. Amazing spread of food, sashimi's to deserts you can find it all at one place. They kept checking with us if we needed any drinks or kept cleaning out our used plates. Impeccable service compared to how busy it was on a Saturday afternoon. Few birthdays and anniversaries being celebrated in the same large dining room.
The food tasted just above average nothing spectacular or a dish I would come back for, even the seafood did not taste as fresh it is meant to.
Telling It As It Is
Went for Mother’s Day deal and was hoping to surprise mum with something special. Completely disappointed with generally poor quality food and range. Compared to other buffets ranged at the $100pp mark this has got to be the worst imaginable
Ela
Exquisite hot food quality and range. Certainly fine food. One of the few places with nice as close to original North Indian cuisines as possible taste. The Italian and Asian section offered a nice range. And they were fresh. The roasts were exceptionally good. I will keep going back for them. The soothing gentle view of yarra while savoring these fine food takes one to a different plane. The high tea is an event in itself. Wished there was more in the desert range but they had enough really. Will recommend to everyone.

Love the food.amazing ambience and view...the variety they offer in the buffet...for vegetarian as well...they have Indian in the buffet option as well...live pasta counter...dream come true buffet in Melbourne...loved it totally

Two words. Fresh Naan. So so good. Get in my belly.
We’ve been to Melba a few timed now and always enjoy the experience. We’ll be back again.
Dine And Dash
For my brother's birthday, he requested a buffet. So we came here to the Melba at The Langham on a Wednesday night - there were 5 of us altogether. When we arrived we were greeted by a couple of staff members who seemed friendly enough. Unfortunately, there is no mention of stairs on the Melba website and one of our group had difficulty with stairs. The staff members didn't speak such great English so it was a bit difficult at first to solve our problem. The alternative seating to avoid the stairs wasn't suitable either so we had to take our original table and try and cope with the stairs. We had studied the sample menu for dinner on the Melba website before we came and we were looking forward to trying the dishes. Things started off OK with a tasty tomato soup. We were so disappointed that there was no Five Spiced Rotisserie Duck, Saffron rice, Vegetable Samosa, Shanghai xiao long bao, Vegetable Dumplings, Steamed chicken dumplings, Portuguese Marinated chicken, Duck, orange zest & sweet onion tortellini, Vegetable laksa, Pad Thai, Singapore curry laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, Chicken and Corn soup, Lamb cutlets, pumpkin gnocchi, Raspberry cannelloni or a Cadbury chocolate lolly bar - just to name a few things!! I know we were looking at a sample menu - but c'mon that's a fair few things missing and that's only the things we were wanting to eat. There was a large cocktail list that was different and very tempting albeit on the expensive side at around $22 each. The chocolate fountain was white chocolate - certainly not what we were expecting. It would have been nice to have a hot dessert. Unless the food was cooked while you waited like the noodle dishes and the Five spiced roasted duck pancakes which were absolutely delicious and definitely my favourite dish or the Grilled rump steak which was a bit overcooked, the other food was all on the cold side. There was a good seafood station and sushi was made while you waited. That was enjoyable to eat and fun to watch as well. The Milk chocolate and passionfruit eclairs were incredible - so much flavour, light and creamy. Just a delight to eat. I had ordered a surprise gift (which they offer when you book online) for my brother and due to some weird unexplained mix-up that wasn't on the table and I had to ask where it was. It's a pretty place - when you arrive a porter opens the car door and tells you where to find the restaurant. They do offer valet parking for $64!!!!! or there's Wilson' parking nearby. The view from the restaurant is pretty and can be seen from most tables. The ambience wasn't great - with little kids running around and we were there quite late. At $94 a head, you'd expect a slightly better atmosphere. We were just so disappointed - we might go back to give them another chance....maybe.

Went to this Fine Dining on My partner's birthday and I must say there were many options, unlimited food & Help youself...I asked one of their staff that It's my partner's birthday, can they bring something nice and see below what they brought...Great Service

We have been to a few buffet restaurants in Melbourne and we would have to put the Melba Restaurant at the Langham near the very top. The service is fantastic with all staff well trained and very attentive. The buffet offers a large variety of different options to enjoy. The highlight would have to be the MnM Naan Bread which was incredible! Also the Chilli and Garlic Seafood Stir Fry is delicious and it is fascinating to watch the chefs work their magic cooking this dish up. This place would be a great restaurant to go to for a special occasion or birthday.
KLLYXNG
Impressive compared to a few buffets I have been to, however I didn't feel that their range was wide enough to cover all cuisines. Unfortunately on Sundays, they do not have any specials as informed by the host.
Service was good, quick to clear plates when you're done with them and receiving drinks too; received some complimentary sweets to take home as we were celebrating a birthday.
Onto the food: sashimi bar was fresh, but the first initial servings weren't generous. Had to ask "xxx for two please" and received a whole lot more fish. Tried the char kuey teow from the wok section and it didn't taste authentic, the sauce was completely wrong but ingredients were all correct so far. Some Chinese sausage would've made it better.
The meat cuts were delicious, had steak, lamb and pork. Juicy and tender but the skin on the pork was poor and rubbery. Tandoori chicken was a little overdone. Peking duck wasn't bad but really oily, the cuts are wrong as it's all shredded and sauce was sometimes diluted. Also have to specify how many you want, if not they'll give you one.
Dessert was good - brulee was a surprise, meringue was yum, as were some of the slices. Might return again for one of their special nights.

Everything about Melba is impressive. From the large, comfortable and elegant dining rooms to the splendid food selection and impeccable service. It really is hard to fault-this is the reason why they are one of the best. One of the better buffets in Melbz. Awesome!
Jamin65
It is a 5 everyday for what it is - the best, all you can eat restaurant I have been to - anywhere. Normally I would avoid these, but this one - well - what’s not to like? You can choose from fresh Seafood (and it is Fresh!), Indian with Naan cooked as you wait in a tandoor oven, Chinese stir fried cooked while you wait and to order, Peking duck and fresh dumplings, Italian pasta cooked as you wait, steak, roasts, ribs, Japanese sushi and fresh sashimi, antipasti/o and cheeses and a table of deserts, ice creams and a chocolate fountain to die for - wow. Plus the fitout and view is excellent. It still has a slight underbelly of an “all you can eat” establishment - (including a table full of excited noisy kids somewhere) - but what is not to love about this place and located in the delightful surrounds of the Langham Hotel on Southbank - well done. Oh, and the service was efficient, friendly and always on hand.
Foooodie
Excellent food which is always fresh and not mass produced. Visually appealing. I have taken off two stars because the guy at Peking duck area behind the counter was so tight with the small amounts of duck meat he placed on the plate. I told him I want more and he simply added 3 shredded pieces. After stating to him it’s still not the amount I want and I will be back for more, he couldn’t care less and looked blank faced. Every time I went back for more we had the same discussion, you would think he would get the point from the previous discussions. If it’s truly all you can eat why the limitation of portion they serve you?

A difficult decision was made to choose which buffet was most value for money based on online reviews, menus and reviews alone. Alas, coming in person to experience it myself one lunch time, here are my thoughts:

- having booked online, we were promptly seated and served. Water service could have been more attentive

- the seafood was fresh but only had a small selection of mussel, crab and prawns

- the Japanese counter had a miso soup that was more vegetable broth than miso and the chef only cut out a few pieces of each fish requested and only one slice of calamari each time

- the hot food was quite standard with Western dishes and a section for Asian duck pancakes (which were very oily)

- the cook to order stove area had some interesting specials and the calamari I ordered was very nice but the vegetable accompanied was not of very fresh

- variety of desserts was of good quantity but were mostly too sweet

A bit of a hit and miss even though we ate our value. It was an enjoyable lunch that could have been made better with quality and variety.

Love the food at Melba, staff are friendly and attentive. The sashimi station are great, sushi and sashimi will be prepared freshly in front of you 😁😁 Dessert station are also a must try 😁😁

Oh Melba… we have shared so many fond memories together. I still remember vividly one of the times when I ate for over 4hrs straight, and I saw fear in the eyes of the lady at the Sushi bar. I didn’t think she could believe that a single person could eat so much, and I nearly had to be stretchered out on that particular occasion! The reason for my madness is because everything tastes so damn good and I just want to eat it all! In case you haven’t realised, Melba is a buffet restaurant.

at 50 dollars a head for buffet breakfast, this was not worth the money....the noodles are ice cold, who heats upa whole tray of noodle with 1 candle burning, hopeless....the orange juice is not freshly squeezed but comes from bottles bought from safeway, seriously u would expect better value for a 5 star restaurant.. and someone elses.lipstick marks on my coffee cup, that's just gross...and the knob on the toaster is broken, not allowing adjustment of settings, burning my croissants, just buy a new toaster, if u charge 50 dollars a head for hundreds of people a day i'm sure u can afford a new toaster

Love dining here and try to get here a few times a year. Delicious buffet beautifully set up. Nice views if you are seated near window. Very impressive. Dessert station is very inviting.

I've enjoyed eating at the buffet, everything is fresh and there is plenty to choose from. Although it is a bit expensive, we always end up eating more than we probably should cos the options are enless!
Live_in_melbourne
Amazing buffet! Wok dishes were just delicious. It's really quick and service was really good. Most of the food were tasty and we love our server, he's really efficient and super friendly.
JKGasMan
Great variety at the buffet here. Especially liked the seafood items, Peking duck, Indian curries and the spectacular chocolate fondue fountain. Great views of Southbank and the Yarra river. Service was spot on as well with plates being cleared without asking and drinks being topped up continuously.

GROSS GROSS GROSS GROSS GROSS. Cold buffet, bad crowded layout. Dirty environment. Wouldn't come again. Save your money and go to a better place.

Had the buffet lunch. Not only is the food magnificent however the staff are also so friendly and so helpful. It makes for such a special occasion meal

To be fair, high tea, not really my thing. But I figure paying $79 a head without alcohol, you’ve got to be paying for some level of experience right?

What we got - a table crowded with plates and cups and clearly not big enough for the full party. We were set up on couches at a table, which really isn’t a comfortable setting for eating. Maybe ok for a casual cup of tea, but not how I pictured high tea to be. Service was confused - tea was being poured and drinks delivered for the wrong people (consistently, not just once or twice). Sandwiches were bland (pro tip - dip them in the pot pie filling, much nicer!). The scones had a bitter aftertaste. Coffee was weak and milky.

The pot pies were nice, as were the cakes and chocolates. And the tea, of course, was excellent. But geez, if you can’t get nice tea at a high tea, where can you?!
Dvk
What a great service, with waiters attending to your needs anytime. There was a lot of variety of food to choose from, we have a great choice selection of meats and seafood. Unfortunately dessert was a hit and miss - some cakes are not delicious and tasted plain.

All the food r delicious n well presented, if u r the person who likes taking photos definitely go there and enjoy the environment My favourite is the butter chicken always order it

Very bad service, find a worm in oyster, a worm! And the manager danny said it is very normal for them! He did not say a sorry at all. It is our christmas dinner, and it is all ruined.
Maleen32
Best buffet in Melbourne! Had my birthday and graduation celebration by having dinner in the restaurant - had a wonderful time! Great lobster (as it was the lobster night) and many other choices of food, Japanese, Chinese, western etc. A beautiful restaurant in a very beautiful hotel at Southbank. Nothing to complain and enjoyed every moment!

Unfortunately I had a bad experience where I got unwell from the food. The service and response to this was not pleasant. Wide variety of food options and great view but unfortunately that's where it stopped for me
Maximusmyboi
Very disappointed with the food, quality of food and prices. Yes it’s the Langham and you expect highway robbery, but our table came to $558 for l think 5 people. I ate Bailey anything as l hate crabs, but l did find myself nibbling in cheeses which was ok. I tried most of the desserts and every single cake, tart or slice l found to be not to fresh. Everything had been sitting in fridges over night as the edges of the sweets had dried out.
Despite not eating seafood l found what was on offer was fairly basic cheap seafoods like small small crabs, prawns are just thawed from frozen and there was no smell to any of the seafood.
There was a chef making fresh Naan bread, u pick which ingredients you would like and he then mixes it with the dough and then cooks it in front of you. Yeah the show was good the Naan was crap.
For the price of a months grocery bill l found this place TOTALLY OVERRATED.
Stahrrtrail
$115.00 for the buffet, per person - not one drink (alcoholic or not) included! I didn't find anything particularly fine dining or so fancy that I could justify the money I had paid to eat here. Yes, the gnocchi was nice and fresh, the pasta was cooked to order, the naan bread 'can' be made to order. I would rather pay so much money elsewhere for a three or four course meal that can be brought to you by a lovely waiter, instead of waiting in a queue with a plate hanging out of your hand like a beggar. I've enjoyed much nicer ambiance and tastier foods in some pubs, also with no time restrictions and nicer decor. Obviously I can't comment on how the meat / seafood was, which might be why people want to pay so much for an unlimited amount of meat..? but after you walk in to a nicely fragranced 'grand' entrance it just feels like your standard hotel lobby, standard buffet all-you-can-eat food that is edible, but terribly overpriced. The price for quality can't even let me give this a half score. I was expecting lux and just lost bux 😂

Beautiful place with a great view of the river.

The food selection is great, all you can eat buffet including seafood, curries, salads, sushi and sashimi, roasts and deserts. The quality of the food is fantastic for being a buffet and the waiters are very swift with cleaning your table which is great when you come back with another plate of food and actually have room to put it on the table! Price wise, with a buffet, the more you can eat the better value for you it is, and for $100 per person minimum you would want to be able to eat your weight in seafood as well other things to be satisfied with the price. Don't be fooled by those menu's that have been posted (cant talk for the breakfast menu but the dinner menu) the food has always been different from what is on the menu in terms of the curries and deserts each time i have been there. Will definitely eat there again but only on a special occasion.

Was invited to a business lunch here. The buffet was extravagant, with great choices across varied cuisines. I tried the Asian and Indian counter, and the flavour and presentation of the dishes were just amazing.

Would definitely recommend this to everyone looking for a business lunch. Being right at the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, this place is easy to reach from major corporate centres.

Good food on mass. Worth a peek if you like buffets. Loads of fresh seafood & a neat little desert station. Lovely surroundings & grandeur marble entrance.

Beautiful hotel, beautiful restaurant. Booked a table for three for a special occasion, we were seated and in front of us, we received two birthday cards and a small birthday cake! We loved the personalised cards !

Great fresh food prepared in front of you. Service was excellent from the first step we walked in. I️ would definitely come back for the 5 star treatment again!

We always really enjoy the breakfast here, but my review is for Melbourne Cup Day. We decided to come here for Cup day this year and we are so happy we did, the day was really great. $129 for the buffet, unlimited bubbles, live modern Jazz, TV screens with the races all day Gorgi Coglan hosted the event, fashions on the field was great. All the ladies made a fabulous effort. We were gifted great gift bags. I felt it was great value for Cup day, the staff were wonderful.

$99 buffet but left me wondering what the fuss is all about? Being pricey, I would expect more from them. For me the food is average, prawn tempura was cold, carbonara pasta lacks of flavor. The fresh prawn was great though! Place is rather cramped and no scenery outside the restaurant. Had 2 serves of chocolate cake dessert - best dish of the night.

Wouldn't return.

A must do for a special occaision buffet in the city. The food is fresh and tasty - favourites are obviously the seafood, and the peking duck at the asian station. Take some M&Ms to the indian section and get a dessert M&M naan bread freshly made!
