One of my favourite places to eat. My boyfriend and I visited for a week in Melbourne and your restaurant stood out as being the best vegan place we ate at on our travels. There is nothing I can fault about food, service, decor, anything really. You have amazing food and it's all vegan/vegetarian!!! Would highly recommend to anyone.
A special sanctuary in the heart of the city. A place to nourish and replenish body mind and soul. Gopals is my favourite place to lunch in the CBD whenever I am staying in Melbourne. The daily fare is wholesome and sattvic and includes an array of colourful fresh salads and tasty vegetarian and vegan curries. Do leave room for the heavenly desserts!
One of the best vegetarian place I have tried in Melbourne. Great taste and large portion. Would definitely recommend to check it out.
Gopals is just AMAZING. Many options everyday, tasty as heaven and no need to spend a fortune. Average price for a full menu including drink it's around $12. Healthy options and home of many vegetarians who wander everyday in CBD.
At this point I've tried pretty much everything but the spinach pie it's a must try.

It was lovely to return to Gopals and get my hippy back on. Although the place has changed a little, the essence of being a brilliant Vegetarian / Vegan restaurant is still evident.
Some may have to look hard for the entrance as it's just a door. Located in the heart of Melbourne for nearly 40 years and now owned and run by the International Society of Krishna Coonsciousness, this is a must visit restaurant whether you are into vego food or not.
There are a number of cruelty free options on the meat-free menu along with roti, rice and excellent refreshments and desserts. Starting at around $9.50 for two hot dishes and two salads with rice - it's one of the most affordable meals around - and the portion sizes are huge. The night I went there was a lasagne but they also have dishes from around the world. With fresh ingredients and a smile from the lovely staff, this place to me is heaven.
No TV in this place. Just pleasant environment with windows open and fresh air coming in.
You should book ahead because this place does get busy and has it's regulars.
You can also book functions here which is something I should consider with an upcoming birthday.
We also cater for your function, large or small.
Not wheelchair friendly - long set of steep stairs to the restaurant. Toilets on site. Kid friendly. No wifi (well at least I don't think so because I was enjoying my meal and talking to people rather than being on my phone.
Vegan/vegetarian set (from $9.50)

🍴This Indian restaurant serves substantial, affordable #vegan or #vegetarian meals in Melbourne central. The basic not so hungry set comes with rice and choice of 2 salads and 2 veggies for $9.50. Add $2.40 for a dessert and drink and $1 more for soup. The food was good but not great, having the aroma of nice Indian spices but the flavours were somewhat muted (and the curry a bit diluted). Not sure if this was intentional to be a more healthy option but we wished for richer taste. The $3.50 samosa was served hot and had a nice crisp crust. It was packed full with a yummy potato mix that once again, could have been tastier

Hands down the best place for vegan food prepared with love in Melbourne. Everyone I know loves Gopals. Amazing value. Beautiful food and vibe.
Pretty good! Got the vegan platter and boy was it a lotta food. The curries were very tasty. Very filling and excellent value for money. The dessert and mango lassi was especially delicious. Really good for students or if you’re on a tight budget. You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck.
Simple vegetarian restaurant tucked away up the stairs on Swanston St.
They have some good meal options, pocket-friendly and filling.
Lovely staff as well.
This one is for the health conscious ones. Healthy, tasty Indian vegetarian fare. Try their super delicious salads and the halwa with custard. I always go for the feast plate and suggest that only if you are super hungry!
Consistenly good, wholesome vegan eats. It's the best place to get filled up on a budget. While other Hare Krishna places offer standard plates of Dahl and rice, the offerings at Gopal's are slighly more diverse, with options like veg koftas, vegan lasagna, peanut butter curries and a range of fresh salads. Visit if you're looking for a cheap, no-frills dinner in the CBD that meets all nutritional needs.
First time having a vegan meal and tasted okay.. Was quite surprised to find this place along the busy Swanston street.. We came here after work and to my surprise it was pretty busy.. Choices were decent given it was vegan dishes..
The staff at Crossways are particularly friendly and accommodating and service is very fast. You can purchase take away or you can eat there and consume as many servings of main course, dessert & beverages as you desire for just $9.50 (or $7.50 if you have a concession card) regardless. The Hare Krishna food meets various food groups & dietary requirements/preferences, making it accessible and healthy to various individuals. The main course and some deserts are vegan and overall, the menu is vegetarian. The curries are generally mildly spicy and flavoursome and there are a great deal of vegetables and very often some tofu and legumes. The menu includes rice, papadums 2 curries, fruit halava, orange cordial, lassi & water. There is a set menu for every day of the week. I am personally very glad that Crossways has re-opened and I believe the food is delicious and a good staple. I pay Crossways a visit on most days I’m in the city and it is my favourite restaurant of all time! I would recommend Crossways, particularly for people who like curries, have specific dietary preferences &/ have large appetites.
The entrance to Gopals is on Swanson street up 2 flight of stairs. Good choice of freshly made food offered in Bain Marie warmer cabinet. There were 6 dishes on the menu when I was there. Including a beautiful dessert. Also 4 or 5 salad options. Very warm friendly people serving. Bain Marie s continually being topped up with freshly cooked food. Huge serves, very reasonably priced and very yummy.
Have come here a couple of times with vegan friends, not a vegan/vegetarian myself.
Really appreciate the simplicity and quality of the food. Lots of healthy legume based dishes, much better than western 'vegan' fare full of soy.
Great place, I love eating here! The 2 veg and 2 salad combination does wonders if you’ve been having a struggling digestive system. I’d give 5 stars if they offered plain yoghurt as well. Under $10 is also generally good value for money- I don’t think you can find that at any other sit down place.
Stumbled across this place and it was amazing. Great choice and value for money. The potion size was so big I couldn't eat it all and was only $9. Best vegan food I have had. Highly recommend you give it a try.
Just outstanding vegetarian and vegan food. We loved the amazing flavors and taste sensations of all dishes tried. Excellent value for money, rotated menus and caring friendly staff that added to the experience. Will definatly visit again. Recommended vegetarian restaurant that will not disappoint.
Had sumptuous lunch at Gopals. Amazing and delicious food. Chef Rohit was extremely polite and we just left it to him to suggest our order. Dal(lentil soup) was the best I've had in a long time. Would definitely come next time.
