The borek bakehouse still rocks. The service is lovely from the lady behind the counter.
My cheese and spinach gozleme was perfect. Well cooked, crunchy on the outside, and still hot! Just perfect.
They currently have a special of 3 for $10 instead of $4 each which is a bargain.
This place is still a must visit.
Cheese borek was so good! Price was very decent too, and kept me pretty full! 😍 bought it then had it while having a walk around Queen vic market with a friend:)
This is a brilliant value for money cafe that offers hot and fresh food with a brilliant cup of coffee to go along with it. It’s packed in between the brilliant neon lights of CBD and easy to miss, but shouldn’t be if one really likes baked goods and other a good many vegetarian options that don’t burn a hotel in a travellers pocket.

We have visited them many times and still love coming back. We usually get the spicy lamb. It is really good when it's freshly made. Crunchy outside and delicious
You can always find delicious and flavorful boreks from this place. The boreks are perfect to be paired with a cup of coffee to go, and just find a seating area where you can enjoy the food and the environment around you. Sounds good for breakkie right? 😍
I’ll definitely be back for more 😋
Very fast service, was in and out in 2 minutes, perfect to pickup lunch for work. Got a potato spicy borek and a lamb borek and it was hot and cooked to perfection can't beat it for the price for just 4$ for a giant borek, great friendly staff and they will serv3 you fast I was in and out in only a couple minutes
My score 4.25 stars (avge of 2 reviews and gazillion visits). J and I got takeaway for snacking at home from here on Tue 1st Oct. At 12.30pm it was the least congested & quickest service we’ve ever had. Still a queue out door though, as people don’t move far enough into the shop! Woman serving was efficient and very nice. Because I'd ordered 3 things, she offered me a second Pumpkin Pide for $2 (as she had an oversupply). BONUS!
Pumpkin Pide ($5) – Never tried one before, different shape to what we’re used to, shorter and wider. Really tasty, pumpkin moist with a bit of natural sweetness, but cut back by beautifully balanced use of chilli (or something similar) - worked really well.
Cheese and spinach Borek ($4) – Our old faithful. YUM!
Spicy Lamb and Veg Borek ($4) – A guilty treat, TBH by the end of it, the lambiness/fattiness was getting to me. Not much evidence of veg!
Jan 2019. J got TA from here (to bring home for dinner) - have been coming here for a long long time. Prefer this outlet to the market one. Our only go-to now is the Spinach & cheese borek – lamb is good if you’re into meat, the potato is nice but a bit “heavy”. The gozlemes are nice too, but we prefer the thicker pastry of the boreks.
One of the best cheap eats in Melbourne CBD. The only downside is that you may have to wrestle with a few tourists when you are queing up.
The Spinach & Cheese is superb for 4 bucks, absolute great value!
If you are a foodie then you must try every single thing in their menu and you wont be disappointed at all because it tastes amazing and they serve you with love.
To the naked eye, The Borek Bakehouse is unpretentious.
The store is frugally decorated, the kapali kizlar (scarved ladies) manning the dough are rather ‘to themselves’, and the prices are near suspiciously low – $4 for a very large borek. What’s the catch?
Under its modest exterior, the Bakehouse vends some of the most earth-shattering boreks in this state.
There’s a process to eating these things. You hand the worker your coins, gently snatch the folded pastry from her grasp, sit yourself outside at one of three tables, and watch the city shuffle along the footpath before you. And then you bite.
You become engulfed in the borek’s warmth, are startled by the subtle sliminess of the spinach, and finally sated by the overwhelming stringiness of the halloumi cheese encased within.
For $4, this is the definition of a steal.
I cannot visit QVM without stopping by to pick up a freshly baked borek (or two). Always hot and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside with tasty filling, I can see why there is always a line (& a very efficient one at that). Price has increased over the years (but still remains very reasonable at $4.50/borek).
only $4.5 for this amazing Borek! 🤩 This is the most simple and best lunch at Queen Vic market!! There is usually a long queue, but they serve food quickly! The lady at the front is also lovely. ☺️
Delicious Borek!!
Well priced with quality ingredients! Look forward to getting again in the near future ☺️.
However it seems to be a bit hit or miss whether you’ll get a hot or cold one though.
As despite asking to get them heated up, mine was very hot and my friends was totally cold.
There’s always a queue, so you know that’s a good sign.
Tried the Spinach and cheese borek, it was simple but made to perfection. Must try if you’re visiting the QVM.
Prices are really good $4.50 for a huge warm and crunchy Borek.
If you're a university student in Melbourne this place is the best buy for breakfast and lunch. $4.5 worth Spinach/Lamb borek will fill your tummy.
Fresh and reasonably priced to fill your tummy. The lady at the counter is sweet and full of compliments. Glad I visited
This joint is definitely one of the top picks if you are visiting the Victoria market. I absolutely love the spicy lamb and veggie gozleme they serve (for less than 5$ it's a good deal). The spicy lamb filling is tasty. I also have had their chicken salad roll. Overall this place is worth visiting if you would like to try boreks/gozlemes(Turkish/middle eastern savoury dishes).
Love these guys. Boreks are so cheap & filling & tasty. But I LOVE the zucchini fritter wraps. Everytime I'm in Melbourne, I have to pick up a zucchini wrap. So good, fresh, flavoursome.
