Review Dock 18 - Melbourne

Quincy Malesovas
I recently visited Dock 18 for the first time to try their Smoke, Beer and Whiskey special menu. I started with an absolutely delicious, smoked collaboration beer with Temple Brewing. It paired so well with my first dish, smoked kohlrabi fritters, which are one of the various vegan options that are included in this offer. For a main dish, I sampled the kumara with a really nice pumpkin seed chimichurri and rainbow carrots. The side of turmeric cauliflower is also highly recommend. A selection of thoughtfully curated Starward Whiskey cocktails accompanied my meal. For dessert, I ate the best brownie I've ever had, infused with smoke and served with whiskey ice cream. The polenta cake with apricot was also super tasty. It's especially nice to dine at Dock 18 because it's evident the staff are knowledgeable and passionate about the food and drinks they serve.

Went to Dock 18 for their Smoke, Beer and Whisky menu with Starward Whisky and Temple Brewery - absolutely loved the experience. My stand outs have to be the heirloom carrots, carbonara, beef ribs and for dessert, the must have is the smoked brownie. The cocktails and smoked beer paired with each dish were also amazing!

Had 3 course meal there, Overall 3/5, great service. Food wise, 2/5: laksa wasn’t spicy enough, the lamb Ragu was quite salty and the brownie was burnt.

Great service and a perfect portion! I got the eye fillet and it was delicious

Food was below average. The entres were much nicer than mains, however they were still sub-par. The meat was dry and chewy, and the pasta had a really off taste to it. The service staff were lovely, but does not make up for the poor eating experience. If the staff were not so nice, it would be 1 star

The pork ribs had a tasty marinade and was served with roast potatoes and salad. The portions were good and reasonably priced at $32. The seafood pasta was $24 and had a decent amount of prawns and scallops. Both dishes I would recommend. The cheese platter was large enough to serve 2-3 people and came with 3 cheese types.

Fresh, colourful and delicious dinner enjoyed with mellow wine and completed with a delicious platter of cheese (3 types), quince paste and warm gluten free toast triangles. Perfect! Casual, modern vibe and excellent service from our lovely waitresses.

Smoke, beer and whisky. Three simple words but when combined together, you're in for a gastronomic journey. Dock 18 is currently partnering with Temple Brewing and Starward Whisky for a SBW journey, where the aforementioned three elements are incorporated into both the food and drinks. I got to experience this for myself and what an amazing meal it was. Smoked beer with hints of smokiness and a touch of bacon-ish flavour, whisky cocktails that have been crafted to complement the food, and lastly, dishes that have shone with elements of smoke, beer and whisky. A few highlights, because there's really too many to mention, were the Reverse Seared 72 hours sous vide Gippsland Valley Beef Rib and the Smoked Whole Fried Baby Barramundi. The beef rib was the epitome of fell of the bone tender, and the bold and rich smoky flavours were simply drool-worthy. The Barramundi impressed with its mix of sweet, sour and zesty flavours, and the fish was cooked to perfection. Vegetarians do not despair. The BBQ Kumara Steak and Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower, were just as delicious as the meats. Incredible layers of flavours and faultless execution made these humble veggies a star in their own right. Desserts rounded up this wonderful experience, and it was hard to choose a favourite between the smoked brownie and the citrus polenta cake. As different as night and day, the brownie was lusciously rich while the cake was delicate and moist, but both just as delicious as one another. The SBW Journey is an experience of a lifetime, one that beautifully brings together three wonderful elements to create a masterpiece.

From the months of October through to the end of January, Dock 18 are celebrating the flavours of local brewery Temple Brewing and whisky distillery Starward Whisky with their Smoke, Beer and Whisky menu. The menu features several drinks and dishes that hero products from Temple Brewing and Starward Whisky among other favourites. Created fittingly just for the occasion is Temple Brewing’s limited edition smoked beer which can be ordered as a taster. There’s something about being served in an adorable-sized pint that makes the beer more palatable (can you tell I’m not the biggest beer fan?) not to mention the unique smoky characteristic. Menu items can be ordered a la carte style or as part of the full SBW package ($85pp for a small plate with smoked beer, large plate with an additional side, dessert and two SBW cocktails). As an added bonus, visitors who share their #SBWJourney have a chance of winning the ultimate weekend for two - visit the Dock 18 website for more details.

Visited Dock 18 who are hosted by Four Points Melbourne to try out their Smoke, Beer and Whiskey Journey and was pleasantly surprised especially because I’m not a huge beer or whiskey fan.

All the flavours were brilliantly infused into the food, so compliments to the chef.

The menu showcased Victoria's best local produce and perfectly paired them with Temple Brewery Smoked Beer and exclusively crafted cocktails by Sacha the Global Brand Educator from Statward Whiskey. ⁣
⁣
My highlights included the Reverse seared 72-hour sous vide Gippsland Valley beef rib, the Smoked brownie and drink: Red grape, riberry, and citrus soda with Two-Fold whisky

Would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone even if you aren’t a beer or whiskey fan!

I recently visited Dock 18 Resteraunt to try their Smoked Beer and whiskey menu. All dishes tasted at this event incorporated smoking techniques from Starward Whisky and Temple Brewing.

Top 4 dishes:

1) Sumac & smoked kohlrabi fritters, vegan mayo, house pickles

2) Reverse seared 72 hour sous vide Gippsland Valley beef rib, Starward whiskey BBQ sauce

3)Smoked whole fried baby barramundi, Okinawa Sour XO sauce

4) Smoked brownie, salted caramel, whisky ice cream

All food was immaculate in terms of presentation and tasted delicious.
Service was highly efficient and the cockails were very refreashing.
Dock 18 would be the perfect place for a light lunch or decadent dinning experience.

I wouldn't normally eat at a hotel of a restaurant because I like to explore the city that I'm in however I may make an exception for this one.

I was invited to a Smoked Beer & whiskey event where we tried dishes that Incorporated smoking techniques, Starward Whisky and Temple Brewing beer.

As far as the quality of the food it was top-notch and he puts his creative and technical skills to the max.

Service was really good but I expect that from a hotel which tram makes me think that hotel staff should train all restaurant staff in the future.

Dock 18 restaurant definitely open my mind to what hotel restaurants can do. Definitely worth the visit if you're staying in Melbourne or if you happen to be in Docklands.

I attended the smoke, beer and whiskey event and was so great to hear from the team that put the menu together. The drinks pairs so well with the food and I couldn’t fault anything.
I’d love to take friends back as it is a great overall experience. I especially loved the smoked beer that you can only get at Dock 18!!

After reading the positive reviews we thought we would see what this place was like. We experienced amazing service and food!!

Our meals consisted of oysters as an entree with the kombu consume jelly (they were nice and fresh). Mains were the rockling and eye fillet with a side of Asian slaw. All up the meals were a 9/10.

The service was friendly and prompt which added to an enjoyable night! (10/10). Overall definitely a place to check out.

Smoke, Beer and Whisky is the new immersive dining experience brought to you by Dock 18 Restaurant, Temple Brewing Co. and Starward Whisky company.

This was such an incredible evening filled with some spectacular flavours inspired by a campfire feel. I came here as part of the #SBWJourney and it was an experience and a half. To be able to enjoy foods cooked with a smoking concept and paired with beers and whiskeys to match was an absolute delight. Good food with good booze is a guarantee for a good time and Dock 18 restaurant delivered that hands down

The SBW Journey. An immersive experinece of food and drinks that introduces and enhances flavours to a whole new level.

Restaurant Dock 18 has teamed up with Temple Brewing Co and Starward Whisky to bring you an immersive foodie experience like nothing else. If you like food, beer, whisky, smoked flavours or even just looking for a special dinner that’ll stand out – this is the one for you. Only available for the next four months, this is not something you’ll want to miss.

The menu has been completely created to showcase the creativity and innovation between three local businesses. Dock 18 Restaurant, Temple Brewing Co and Starward Whisky.

To begin we enjoyed a beer, but not your average type.. a limited edition Smoked Beer from Temple Brewery that was brewed especially for the menu. The smoked flavours were strong and resembled the taste of bacon.

Next it was time to get stuck into the food. Time for some small plates! A choice of three different SBW small plates are on offer.
🍽Pepperberry Spiced Fried Chicken Tulips
💬This is presented perfectly and comes with classic Ranch Dressing.
🍽Black Pepper Carbonara
💬The smoky flavours were strong in this dish with a smoked egg on top and with pancetta throughout. This was definitely one of my favourite dishes as I felt it captured the SBW Journey perfectly.
🍽Sumac & Smoked Kohlrabi Fritters
💬These were really interesting as the flavours and consistency took me by surprise. It was unexpected and delicious. The addition of house pickles gave it the perfect touch of sweet and sour.

🥂 Before being served our large plates, we were able to choose on the exclusive whisky cocktails crafted especially for the meals by Sacha from Starward Distillery. With each dish in mind, the cocktails enabled the essence of the dish to truly be bought to life.

The large plate options consisted of:
🍽Reverse seared 72-Hour Sous Vide Gippsland Valley Beef Rib
💬The extensive time was evident when biting into this. It was paired with a Starward Whisky BBQ Sauce and together it was like tasting a short novel. An exciting rollercoaster ride of aromas.

🍽Smoked Whole Fried Baby Barramundi
💬The vibrant colours in presentation just showcases this dish perfectly. It was paired with a Temple Brewery Okinawa Sour XO.

🍽BBQ Kumara Steak
💬The vegetarian option was incredible. As someone who loves her meat, I would genuinely order this as a first option! The combination of ingredients and sauces were truly delicious.

If these large dishes weren’t already showstopping enough, they are paired with a choice of side. And ofcourse, these are no average sides.. The favourite was the Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower.

The final stop on the SBW Journey was easily my favourite. Being a sweet tooth, I was so excited reading the delicious twists on the usual dessert options. To make it even better, the dessert was also accompanied with the Starward Distillery, Dessert Cocktail. I won’t give too much away about this after dinner surprise but… think warmth, fruit, coffee, whisky, pure enjoyment.

🍽For dessert we tried the Smoked Brownie and the Citrus Polenta Cake.
💬The Smoked Brownie was such an interesting combination of flavours. The smoky taste was strong and dominated the usual chocolatey flavours of a brownie. However when this was then combined with the two ice cream flavours.. Salted Caramel and Whisky – it all blended perfectly together to create a sensational party for your taste buds.
💬The Citrus Polenta Cake as a perfect finish. It was light, fluffy and delicate in aroma. It was a perfect way to finish and leave the palette.

The full SBW Experience is $85pp and includes entrée, main, dessert, Smoked Beer and 2 Starward cocktails. An absolute deal and a half!

I’ve already begun recommending this as it won’t be around for long and is definitely more than just a dinner.. it is an experience that will have every taste bud doing spins of excitement. The staff are all wonderful and the head chef’s passion is evident throughout each dish. A flawless evening full of unexpected taste sensations that aren’t easily repeated. A rare experience that I won’t forget any time soon!

💚Truly a ONE OF A KIND evening
💚Thoughtful Menu that introduces unique flavour sensations
💚Staff - Kind and Efficient
💚Passionate Chef
💚Paired with the perfect alcloholic drinks to enhance the tasting experience

#SBWJourney #Dock18 #TempleBrewingCo #StarwardWhisky

I visited Dock 18 Restaurant for their new ‘Beer Cha’ dining experience which combines Asian-inspired food with beers from around the world! The menu was so diverse and included things like cheeseburger spring rolls, pork fat gyoza, sweet potato rendang, brisket, tom yum soup and delicious desserts like matcha brownie and oolong tea panacotta! The beers to match were ones from Japan, China, Indonesia and even a local brew from Melbourne. Everything was so beautiful and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Melbourne or wanting a unique dining experience!

See more at @thesansberryblog on Instagram

I was lucky enough to attend the launch of Dock 18's new concept 'Beer Cha', and it was amazing! The concept of Beer Cha is to pair both local and international beers with the lovely Asian dishes. Each of the 5 courses was paired with a different beer. I was lucky enough to try all of the dishes that are offered (all 21 of them!). However, the normal beer cha concept is choosing one dish per course, which is larger, to enjoy.

The restaurant's interior feels quite posh, with beautiful table settings, high ceilings, lots of greenery separating areas of the restaurant.

I'm not a big beer drinker, but I did enjoy sipping a different beer with each course, and experiencing the different flavours that came with them. My favourite was the Mountain Goat Pale Ale, paired with the second course.
The stand out dish for me per course was:
Cheeseburger spring roll, which was surprising in a great way. It tasted so similar to a cheese burger, but with the crunch of a spring roll
Lamb ribs were soft and flavoursome
Lamb kathi roll was on the spicer side, but very tasty
Pork taco had juicy, flavoursome filling and soft tortilla
Matcha brownie had a lovely crisp exterior, denser interior and a great matcha flavour. It was paired beautifully with the black sesame ice cream

The staff were beyond friendly, and so passionate about their new concept. I loved hearing about how the different cultural backgrounds within the kitchen staff, influenced the different dishes offered in 'Beer Cha'. From new concepts to family recipes, all different influences created the menu I was able to try.
WENT THIS PLACE ON MOTHER'S DAY, GET VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!
One of the Asian waitress with black hair are not welcome at all, when she saw us using the voucher from scoopon, she told us scoopon people needs to book the seat first, and I told her that there were only a few clients in this restaurant, and she let us stay.
The entriee lakasa was crazy salty, but they told us nothing they can do with it, it's for scoopon people's meal. The main food was not tasty at all, it feels like it didn't put any salt. Desserts were nice, otherwise I really want to rate this place 0 star.

Definitely not recommend this place, and still can't believe this is how they served in four point by sherdon hotel. I don't understand if you need scoopon to bring more clients, why you have to treat them in this way? Will never go back...

We used a Scoopon for this meal and it was very good value, $25 pp for two courses and a drink. Although we enjoyed the friendly and attentive staff, we thought the food could be a bit better.

Our entree of laksa soup was tasty but not piping hot, which was a shame. The steak main was ok but the masala chicken was pretty standard albeit generous. The dessert of bread pudding was the highlight though!

While we wouldn't pay full price for it, we did enjoy our exprience overall!

Food was pretty average. Tortellini pasta was really chewy and red thai curry were bland .Dessert being the only saving point for dinner. Would not recommend their Buffet
I Love Food
Dined here with friends last night as a group of 4. Bought a Cudo deal which was great value. 3 course meal with a side & drink each for $198 for the 4 of us. I had the bbq spiced prawn for entree, the Victorian lamb rump for main, honey roasted beetroot as my side & finished with new york style cheesecake. Everyone enjoyed the food. Service was ok, English wasn't the main or best language for any of the wait staff. Overall great value deal for a place we wouldn't have otherwise normally dined at/visited.
Food Coma Survivor
(I used a Groupon for this)
It was a two course dinner for two people. When I sat down, I noticed my napkin in front of me still had stains and smeared lipstick from someone else, that was not a good first impression. For starters we had the cheese kransky, it was piping hot and delicious. For mains, we had the ribs and the steak. The steak was good, and the sauce was great. But the end of the asparagus was old, and it was inedible. The ribs were alright, the meat wasn't overlooked or dry but I wouldn't say it was falling off the bone either. Everything tasted average, not bad but nothing to shout about. For dessert, we had the chocolate opera cake if I'm not mistaken. That wasn't the best, but it looked nice. Overall, it was worth it with the Groupon, but I don't think I would be returning. Staff were really friendly and you could tell that they tried their best.

Exceptional "old" style service ........ ordinary food and 1.1% credit card charge VISA and MC is quite outrages.

Exceptional old style service comes with an exceptional setting within the Four Points hotel lobby, however there are only 2 of us here at 1 pm for lunch ..... three more patrons towards the end of our lunch after 2 pm.

Foodwise, awesome $8.00 warm rustic Ciabatta bread with charged Olive oil and Chutney,
6/10 $10.00 Tempura Prawns,
8/10 $18.00 Potato Gnocchi Blue Cheese, well made, just need a bit of salt & pepper,
6/10 $25.00 Slow Braised Beef Rib, well cooked meat, a bit over seasoning on one side, nice Pumpkin puree, but Beef jus needs work.
Food are reasonably priced but not their imported Italian Santa Vittoria bottle water $11.00 especially when another 1.1% credit card charge is added to the total bill.

Their Kitchen need to catch up with their floor team exceptional service.
