Review Kim Chi Tray - Melbourne

First time trying this, definitely coming back! Staff were really friendly, patience and great customer service! To add on, the food was really reallygoood! The beef stew soup was great as well. Worth the money and great atmosphere. 😊

Been to here a number of years and I know of people who really like it. One of my wife’s fav places to go for Korean. Any of the Bibimbab clay dishes are nice or the bbq dish choices. For me, if you end up picking spicy dishes, on a level 1-10 , people may find it ranging 6-8 for spicy ness. Service is always friendly for us.
Joel
Taste was a little bland, and service was sub-par. A place that's only good enough to fill your Korean cravings
David Johnston
This place is fantastic! Delicious food. Good portions and good price.

Delicious food, cozy casual atmosphere, and very friendly service. After a beautiful day spent walking and site seeing, we stopped here for a late dinner and I haven't stopped thinking about my meal ever since. I ordered the beef casserole bowl- spicy. Looking for a place back home in Chicago that can measure up.

Definitely best Korean food outside of Korea!!! The restaurants offering is of a good amount of veriety and the servings there are of a large size. Had dinner a few times there during my Melbourne visit. Everytime the wait staff was super friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding, thought I was in Korea when I was eating it, super delicious!!!! Definitely recommend it.

$12 lunch special The food is great especially bibimbab. The owner action on over safety to kids and too neat may frustrate people with kids or seem to be rude. I dont like when he keep coming to tell my boy to quiet or telling about dangers or fuzz at first but I think he just has a good intention and he also gave extra healthy side dish to my boy. Overall food is good and fast service so just keep coming here.
Alex Peters
Great food served quickly by extremely friendly staff, who are more than willing to accommodate adjustments to meals where possible. The kimchi is homemade and especially delicious. The TV in the corner of the restaurant offers an interesting insight into currently popular Korean music trends.
Jeremy Bryan
The food was bland and terrible. It's ironic that the place is called kimchi tray because the kimchi was the worst part. They should really just pack up.

Got the Korean BBQ chicken with steamed rice and side dishes. Filling and big portions. The place is located on Flinders St which was convenient to get to for lunch.

We’ve been here for dinner but only few people in the restaurant that day, which really confused me. I even guessed if the food here was beyond average. However the hot pot and plank cake we ordered surprised us so much as they were absolutely appetizing! Food was tasty 😋 The place really worths 4 ⭐️

Our fav korean soup joint, no msg and natural flavoured. Service could be better, order their soy bean soup or kimchi soup, bibimbap. Lack of english understanding so be patient

**3.5 stars** Another authentic Korean restaurant located in the heart of Melbourne City. If you enjoy listening to K-pop or watching Korean idols perform on t.v whilst eating, this is a pretty chill place to do so. Service is slow (Only saw one person working) but the food will meet your expectation. 🍽

Delicious food, especially the Budae Jjigae hotpot. Courteous service, but a bit slow due to insufficient staff. The lunch special is quick and affordable.

I read funny comment in zomato about the mean uncle and still came to kimchi tray for fun!
I was looking for him but he's no longer here i served by this nice and friendly young asian man very polite the service is good

Order the chilli fried chicken taste really good
Beef also taste okey

I think you guys need to try this
They hv a new management system worth to try!

Popped in for a late lunch yesterday and it was fantastic. I got a huge serving of bibimbap with sides, miso soup, and amazing house-made kimchi for $13. There was so much I had to ask for a take away container. Prompt service and genuinely friendly staff, too.
Elaine
The taste for beef was very good! And each dish comes with small dishes and rice. Only $15 each!
I was so hungry at that time, and it didn’t take too long to get meals ready! Fried chicken with bbq source was so good! It is worth trying next time.

Really nice and tasty food! Great customer service and ambience too :) would recommend! Ordered the mild pork with rice and friend got spicy chicken and cheese with rice.

Would come back again and try more dishes :)

We went there for dinner yesterday, had fried chicken, bibibap, pork and potato stew. It was very disappointing, although food looked fine, they didn’t taste good at all. Bibibap was very wet, chicken was dry, pork stew had weird taste. Although staff were friendly, we won’t want to go back again.

Food is great. Owner has his own way of dealing with customers which may come across rude. Very typical Korean dad kind of way. We laugh it off all the time.

They have lunch special menu - lunch box served with miso soup for only $12. Ordered the spicy pork lunch box and were told their food are MSG free, good to know. Free corn tea self serve and you order at the counter. The lunch box consists of the spicy pork, rice, a prawn tempura, fried dumpling, a fried chicken drumette, small salad and a miso soup. Also ordered sweet chilli fried chicken, which was served separately. The food were decent, given it's MSG free. Service was rather interesting, the owner tells you exactly where to sit and asks his customers to bring back the menu to the counter. Personally, I think he tries his best to take care of customers in his own way.

Rubbish restaurant! rubbish services! worst experience I never met. I swear that I don't eat here anymore!!!!
A man who looks like the boss here with bad service attitude, he lets us seat the number ten table first, ten mins later make us transfer to a quite small table, even do not have enough space to seat, very uncomfortable! In addition to this, i require get one more chair to put i and my friend items on there and I was refused, even he speaks loudly to me ! I am so embarrassing! Anyway, this is a worst restaurant I experienced!
Rebecca Ann McPherson
Super friendly and respectable owner who goes out of his way to make sure everyone is served.
Commendable rapport building and customer service.

Food wise, they have a great variety of Korean food which could be a bit more authentic.

Kudos on avoiding MSG and the homemade kimchi!

Would highly recommend for affordable Korean dining (you could even get free ginseng tea!)
Lightworker Trinh
Had a craving for kimchi and KimChi Tray delivered. Kimchi pancake was packed full of flavour. The Kimchi Bimba was delightful also. The steamed vegetarian dumplings were mouthful of delicious.
The metal chopsticks are tricky so perhaps fork and spoon option is advised.

Went to go in for lunch with a few co-workers, it was relatively busy and it seemed nice enough. There was so that could have been avoided. Albeit the food was okay, not great, a bit expensive in my taste (there are other places around the city that have bigger portions or cheaper), the worst of it came down to the service.

The owner, whether or not he knew he was being abrasive was loud and rude, did not wish to serve a co-worker until the entire group was at the counter, was very rude and pushy about payment (kept telling us to get our cash quicker), literally called me over (after ordering at the counter) with his finger to make me return the menus. They have staff there who stood around doing nothing and kept walking up and down so they could have in a way, assisted. Just very rude and odd - it was beyond self service.

The food came out at the standard time, and it was fine. There was plastic in our food however and when we told the staff, she went to tell the owner to went to tell the chef - all three of them came over to our table without an actual apology and tried to justify the plastic. (Which supposedly came from the packaging from the food that had been cut.) Didn't even try to compensate - and it was a massive plastic piece too!

It was just an awful experience and would not want to go back.

I ordered vegetarian soup, but the soup I'd got was with mince and pipi! Service was terrible, my friend told me, the old Korean man gave her some free tea bags after she paid the bill, I saw he gave to some customers today but not me, I think all customers should be treated the same:(
Eatwithhendri
Pretty decent Korean located just right across Flinders st station. if you happened to be there and had a sudden Korean craving strike on you, this place is a perfect choice. friendly and attentive ajusshi owner who always interact with customers had made the dining experience even more pleasant
Frederick Kwon
DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE GLUTEN INTOLERANT !!!!!! the old man claimed that everything on the menu was gluten free, but when he spoke in Korean to the servers it was clear he knew this wasn't true. Cares more about money than making people ill. Absolutely do not eat here.He told the servers to make sure we didn't leave in Korean.

Was craving Korean food for dinner so my mum and I decided to try the nearest Korean restaurant to Flinders Street Station so we can attend a live event on time. Even though the restaurant is quite small, I like how the tables were quite big to be able fit a lot dishes on the tables. The food came out very quickly, approximately 10 minutes. The kimchi pancake was large and very delicious, definitely worth the $13. My mum had the chicken bibimbap and I had the tofu bibimbap. The sauce for the bibimbap was well balanced with a salty and sweet flavour. I enjoyed eating the kimchi pancake with the bibimbap sauce more than the dipping sauce for the kimchi pancake.
My mum and I both agree that it we the best and still affordable bibimbap we have had so far in Melbourne. The side dishes were pretty good as well, my favourite was the fish cakes. We also tried the dried persimmon and cinnamon drink called Soo Jeong Gwa. Very refreshing and delicately sweet to relieve any spicyness in our mouths and finish the meal on a sweet note.

The service was pretty good. The manager there is quite funny and talkative and kept saying the kimchi is the best in the world. He even gave us extra kimchi when we finished it. After paying, he even gave us each a packet of ginseng tea. I will be coming back to try the other dishes whenever I crave for Korean food again.

Came here for lunch with a mate from his recommendation.

The owner, an older Korean guy, is such a character and good fun making jokes and being friendly.

We ordered the dumpling platter, the sweet & chilli chicken and the bbq beef. The chicle was absolutely amazing, full of flavour and juicy. The dumplings were also quite nice, with both a mix of steam and fried with different filings. The beef was cooked well but really needed a marinate or sauce to go with it to add flavour however it did come with kimchi, tofu and radish as sides.

We were also given free ginseng tea to have afterwards.

Would definitely recommend for a cheap lunch stop as the menu is quite extensive and the interior is nice and clean.
FoodHedonist
Owner looks after you in his own way! However, food could be better. Higher score only because the owner cares a little too much and unfortunately food falls a bit short of the set expectation.

Finally I can write a proper review given that I've been here several times.

Kimchi tray is now my favorite Korean restaurant in Melbourne in terms of the food flavor.
I tried several types of soup set (seafood soup/ spicy tofu soup/ potato and pork soup). They all taste amazing.
One point that worth mentioning is that they do not have added MSG in their dishes, which is one of the reasons makes it my favorite Korean restaurant in town.

A lot of people complain about the owner -- a middle-aged Korean man. I agree that he is kinda picky so this annoys many customers. But I think that's just his personality and this does not affect that he is a nice person.
Colossal Chow
Just popped into Kimchi Tray for a quick meal, and ordered the Cold Noodle Soup and a pot of Ginseng tea. It was great, reminded me of eating back in Korea, with the ice cube, mustard, pear and veggies, along with the scissors to cut the noodles. The owner was really nice too, as it was a quiet night, so he talked to me about his time in Daegu and some other stuff (couldn't grasp all of it) and he gave me three complimentary mini bags of ginseng green tea for me to take home. In total, came to $22.
*** Just note, a nutter came into the restaurant, probably drunk or stoned off his face, middle-aged dude and started dancing in front of the TV and yelled a bit before leaving. Guess this is an unfortunate occurrence around Melbourne CBD at eight-thirty in the evenings. Still, won't deter me from coming again and enjoying my meal and talking to the owner who takes pride in his restaurant (apparently Kimchi Tray has been around for more than 15 years!).

Food was average. Could definitely get your Korean fix elsewhere.
Boss was very pushy and scorned at us when we didn't want to get the entree he recommended because he thought "we might not have enough to eat". Would be more appreciative if his recommending tone was more sincere. He was just bossy and we did end up getting the entree. His attitude hadn't improved much after that.
I would've been back if I was around the area and lazy to get something else to eat. But the boss's attitude ruins everything.
Simone
Had Korean BBQ pork, cold spicy noodles and seafood soup. Flavours were very average, edging on bland, and portions were so small! Definitely not worth the price
Fiona Tran
Went here a couple of times. I order the kimchi stew which came with rice and side dishes, it tasted pretty good.

The owner however, was a bit intimidating though - but maybe that's just how he is. Service is 50/50 since the waitresses were really nice.

Good, authentic Korean food.
Tried the beef bibimbap for $14 after a tiring shift at work. Friendly staff was very happy to wait for me to finish my meal before bringing out the green ice cream! (Yum!) My boss has always asked me to buy her the seafood combination set ($18) and lunch boxes($12)...now I understand!

For what I was expecting as a cheap Asian food snob at due to fear of consuming way too much oil, I was pleasantly surprised. I must admit my bias was completely uncalled for and the food at served to my party was fantastic - fresh and delicious (and not swimming in oil). Most of my party got the claypots. Well priced. Not a flashy place, but it was lunchtime rush hour and the service was lovely, the owner (I'd imagine..) came out to greet us too which is always appreciated. Would recommend.

Discovered this little Korean place by chance and I'm glad I did. Fast service, Great food and Cheap!! Their Tofu Bibimbap was soooo nice & the Cold noodles was soooo refreshing. All the food were served on a tray which relates to their shop name- don't know about you but I find that cute! Will come back for more~

Fast service, great Korean food and nice convenient place in front of Flinders St station. We had the shared mandu (dumplings) platter which was great and yummy. The bulgogi, spicy squid dish, stone pot hot rice (bibimbap) including the tofu stew (sondubu tchigae) was nice and piping hot. The boss will give you more side dishes if you ask for more.
Free hot corn tea available for customers.
Jennyaichen
Went here for the first time recently and tried the tofu bi bim bap and beef spare ribs - both very delicious. I saw another couple trying the hot pot which looked really good too. The prices are reasonable and overall friendly service. I would go back to try other dishes.

Simple Korean food when you looking for a quick fix for lunch and dinner. I'm a regular and the beef rib casserole never disappointed me. I would also recommend Sweet & sour Pork from the main dish - it's definitely different from other restaurant.
Tracey
The manager is very mean. He treats customers like his servants. Everything is self service but he didn't tell us before. The food here is quite expensive, definitely will not come back!
My Babes And I
My babes and I picked her sister up from work in the city one night when we felt like some Korean food for dinner. After walking down to Flinders Street from Collins Street, we walked by a Korean restaurant that my babes had eaten at before, with her family, and they really liked it so we decided to have KimChi Tray for dinner.
We walked in and waited by the door to be seated at a table by the staff when an older man with glasses walked in from the entrance behind us and told us to sit down at a table. It took us a moment to realise that he not only worked there, but by the way he was ordering everyone around (including customers), that he must've been the manager too.
After reviewing the ample selection of Korean food on the menu, I decided to have Spicy Seafood Combination Korean BBQ, my babes had the Budae Hotpot and her sister ordered the Vegetarian Deep-Fried Dumplings. I ordered a Hite Pale Lager for my drink and my babes and her sister shared a bottle of Coke. Our drinks were served within a couple of minutes along with three glasses of hot tea, which weirdly tasted like warm corn water, and a few straws for the Coke. My babes was in a playful mood so she put a straw into my glass of beer. The manager was walking past our table when he spotted the straw in my beer and he called me "stupid" and demanded I remove it immediately as he'll get a "bad review" if anyone saw it. From that point, our dinner was no longer enjoyable and we couldn't wait to leave because of the disrespectful manager.
The Vegetarian Deep-Fried Dumplings were served after a few minutes. The six dumplings looked similar to Gyoza's but I didn't like the vegetarian filling. I felt that it needed some pork or prawn as without the meat, the cabbage filling was bland.
Next came my Spicy Seafood Combination Korean BBQ. The sizzling hot plate was sitting on a thick wooden board which was served on a thin wooden tray along with a bowl of rice and three sides of Kimchi, fish cake strips and a sliced potato and onion dish. The large prawns, baby octopus and calamari looked very appetising covered in dark sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds and I was looking forward to trying it. The tray was very oversized and took up a lot of table space so I placed all its contents onto the wooden table and put the tray aside. As soon as the manager saw this, he approached me and rudely demanded that I place the sizzling plate, that was still on top of the wooden board, back onto the tray as it'll damage his table. I knew that the wooden board was thick enough to insulate the table from the hot plate but I was in no mood to argue it so I complied. Although the seafood was cooked well, the marinade just tasted like chilli oil and wasn't enjoyable.
A few minutes later came my babes Budae Hotpot sitting atop a portable gas stove. The pot was full of a light brown coloured broth where various uncooked items were immersed in including sausage, ham (which was actually spam), thinly sliced pork, baked beans, tofu, two types of mushrooms, kimchi, spicy sauce and ramen noodles from a packet. The broth was lukewarm and it took a while for the gas burner to heat up the hotpot which slowed the cooking process for the uncooked meats. By the time the ramen noodles and the other veges were cooked, the meat was still very undercooked. The broth was very one dimensional with the spicy sauce overpowering any complex flavouring in the broth. The veges were quite nice but the meat was disappointing. My babes and her sister didn't want to touch the meat so I ended up having it but even after nearly an hour of boiling, the sausage and spam was still undercooked.
My babes, her sister and I couldn't wait to leave this restaurant as the old-school manager ruined our night. It seems he treats his other customers the same way so it'll be interesting to see if his business suffers because of his attitude. Needless to say, my babes and I will never return to KimChi Tray as there are dozens of Korean restaurants in the CBD who not only have better tasting dishes, but much friendlier service from their managers. Having said that, the other workers there serving our food were much more friendlier and their service was impeccable.
George N Mandroulias
The staff were friendly and efficient. The meals were just as fast to be served and was presented on a hot plate which is a nice gimmick. The food was alright and it matched the atmosphere.
Sheryl Uy-Bangalan
The place didn't seem appealing from the outside probably because of tons of picture menu posted on the glass facade. But once your inside, it looks clean and have a modish touch to it.
However, I was kinda pissed off at first with the owner/cashier because of how unaccommodating he was. We were asking for a recommendation but instead he answered that it depends on what food we like and not on him. I overheard him say it to another customer as well. That's when I realized that maybe that's just how he is and not meant any offense.
We know he is the owner because he kept on braggin' that they don't use MSG unlike the other Korean resto. In a way, he is kind of entertaining because he tells us stories about their little eatery.
We ordered one of their bento meals and bibimbap. The food was decent. You get what you pay for. There was also this free corn tea (not sure if that was really what it's called) that the owner kept on insisting us to have but limited only to 2 glasses per person.
Good service as well, the lady who served us is very diligent and courteous.
Postbox
A great place for a quick lunch or dinner. They do basic Korean food well, and is one of the better places in Melbourne for that kind of food. One or two items on the menu are underwhelming, but the majority of the food is excellent (the Kim Chi/seafood pancake, traditional soups and spicy chicken with cheese are great). The service is direct but friendly. If you're easily offended or expect stand-out service to accompany a $15.00 meal - it's not the place for you!
Jessica Hartono
The old guy who took our order was extremely rude!! Unbelievably rude! When my colleagues and I entered the restaurant, the waitress sat us on a dirty table with only 1 set of utensil. Then the old guy just handed us the menu and ignored me when I asked for more utensils. When we tried to order the lunch special he charged me with normal price, and was angry when I said I wanted the lunch special. He also told us to gather our menu from the table and bring it to him. He also told me to call up my friends to order at the same time, even though some of them are still choosing the food. We will never recommend this place and never come back ever again! DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!! WOULD RATE THIS -5 but I was forced to add at least 1 star.
Zac Evans
This place deserves more than 3 stars. I've been here about 5 times now and have never been disappointed. The bipimbap is one of the best I've had in the city (tastes exactly the same as in Korea). Generous portions and very cheap. Haven't found better value Korean in the CBD so far. The owner has been friendly and accommodating. I haven't seen him be rude to anyone, so I'm not sure if a few people caught him on a bad day or if he's cleaned up his attitude after reading those reviews. In any case, give kimchi tray a go, you won't be disappointed.
Ben To
I've only had their lunch specials. I like the bibimbap and come back for it. Had the bento a few times but not as impressed. Service can be strange and abrupt. If they fixed that I'd bump the rating up to 4.
James Nguyen
Been a couple times, decent enough food would go back BUT

Today I went in to order takeaway pork bibimbap, and I walk up to the counter, manned by the owner. I asked if I could have a takeaway pork bibimbap, he then yells at me saying there are many pork such as bbq, and shoves a menu in my hand and orders me to stand in the side while i decide (there was only one kind of pork bibimbap on the menu)

He then walks around telling customers off for having menus on their table even though they already ordered. Removed cutlery from one side of a two person table despite objection by a patron that someone was sitting there, then exclaiming displeasure in having to put cutlery in that spot.

He finally came back to the counter and I start to ask "hi could I please have.." before I finish he raises his hands signalling that he didn't want to deal with me, and walked to the back (presumably to get an employee to come out and take my order)

I promptly put my menu down and walked out.

This is an absolute disgrace, I understand you could be having a bad day, or you run your business like this, but to be customer facing and act in this manner is absolutely unacceptable.
The customers who had to tolerate this behaviour could have enjoyed eating here, but instead leave not wishing to return.

If you're not good with people, put reliance on your staff to handle the floor, and don't ruin what could otherwise a decent meal.
Marcel S.
Decent Korean lunch (bibimbap, miso and sides for $12) for low prices in a convenient location. Only downside is the pushy owner that tried to seat us, two people, in a table for two when there was another person already seating there. We ended up sharing a table of 4 with 2 others which is fine. Ordering is another issue, same waiter/owner insists on these weird numbers for everything. I'd go back only because of location.
Angel Khong
What's his problem?!. Just like others have mentioned, the owner/manager is very nanny like. We were told off for putting our handbags on the table, not ordering at the cashier at the same time, having more than one glass per person.......... the way things went, I was surprised we were not told to take off our shoes before entering the restaurant!

Food was very, very ordinary. Definitely not coming back here ever again.
Jezelleah.dizon
Customer service is so bad!. The owner has very poor customer service. He can't even talk English properly. Isn't nice to Australian citizens and other nationalities. This shop should go out of business. Never ordering from here again!
Abc123
Service. Manager is a wanker!
-he makes you sit with strangers, who wants to do that? You want to enjoy your meal, not have to feel akward.
-very rude
-doesn't care about the customers experience, only the money!

Very disappointed! Ruined my day!!!
Lpnly
Um... Went into today with 4 friends and we ordered 2 meat dishes to be shared between us only to be told by the very rude male manager (who apparently has 40 years management experience) that 2 would not be enough for 4 people and that he would charge us $10 if we paid extra (which we thought he was joking about). After insisting what we would be fine, HE THEN said that he would not give us any side dishes because we ordered too little which after much questioning and him coming up with no reasonable answer and only demanding the menus back, we got up and left and ate somewhere else. Every Korean restaurants gives you side dishes and even free refills. Its ridiculous and after seeing the other reviews I can see why its empty on a Saturday night in a busy location.

Worst Lunch ever - KimChi Tray - Flinders St, Melbourne. I went to this restaurant for lunch and such a worst customer service ever. The owner, I dont know what the trouble he is in , he is asking to pay $10 for taking an extra glass of water and using extra spoon, he is not joking but he is damn serious about it and mentioning that he had also written this in the table, we dont know which table. He is complaining about this as a very serious matter to other clients in the restaurant.... very rude. very rude. NEVER THINK OF GOING THERE...... WORST
Sp.arunsp
Worst ever. I went to this restaurant for lunch and I must say I've never experienced such a worst customer service anywhere. Food was very ordinary. I was asked to pay $10 for taking an extra glass of water and using extra spoon. I think it is the owner who served us and he was very rude. NEVER GO THIS PLACE.....
Lance Jiang
Horrible restaurant, horrible service, food below average, staff unfriendly, very grumpy,
Vi
I can't bring myself to recommend this place even for students. Surely there are better options?
Christien Setiadi Tan
Owner would ask you to share a table with stranger!!! Service terrible, food quality is average. This has been mentioned by the previous review before and it happened to me too. I came by myself and the owner ask me to sit joining a stranger!! A table of 2 that is. I refused, basically said no and asked a table for myself. I thought he was joking. Anyway given a table by myself then when I'm about to order, before i say anything he assumed and told me they dont have lunch special on weekend. [do i look that poor?] anyway i sat close to the door and the door was opened and you can smell the smoke from outside. I asked the waitress to close it which she said she'd have to ask her boss and they basically ignored me. On top of that there was nothing special about the food, pretty average.
Foodie82
I don't understand the bad reviews about this place. Went with minimal expectations based on this & was very pleasantly surprised. Food was excellent value for money, tasty & well presented. Service fantastic. What more could you want? Don't be put off by bad reviews & give Kimchi a go!
Mayellow
Unusual experience. Went for a quick lunch today and i walked in without anyone greeting us. There was only the 2 of us so we decided to wait around before getting seated. The owner/manager gestured us to walk towards him so we did. we asked for a table for 2 and he said we only had two tables to choose from. ( mind you, half of the tables were vacant). SO we looked at the tables he offered us, 1) joining table with a stranger & 2) sitting right at the door with the door opened ...and it was windy.

We asked for a different table, table which could seat 4 people seeing how they had 3/4 of those free. But he refused to give us a proper table and demanded we sit at the one near the cool wind, or joining a table with a stranger. Food was mediocre, flavours weren't amazing. Pretty bland. My bimbimbap was cold as well when they served it.

The watiress' were polite (finally something good) but the manager/owner who is the male wasn't very pleasant to deal with.

Will not recommend this place.
Alexkimsu
Don't expect me to go back again. Food is terrible and greasy and taste like its old old old. (I think because this resterant is always very quite and no customers). Not recommend any one to eat there.
Ninniku
It's been decked out to look more classy and more like a restaurant than a fast food joint . Waiter ( I assume the owner and I'm sure I've seen him before at Ume Hana) is dressed to the nines and talks like an entertaining Tepanyaki chef) and the most gorgeous tall Korean waitress ( I'll call her luscious lips) changed the vibe from before .
The menu and food are the same though .
Although , there's a selection of beer now with the two Korean staples .
I've always liked this place , and now for different reasons I still do .
Ronnie
The best home cooked korean food eith key ingredients from korea.
65 years owner is so proud of his kimch ginseng tea and corn tea. Smooth taste.
one of the best korean food found outside korea from our personal travel. At great reasonable price. Must try and enjoy.
-cookie_monster-
One of the best Korean places around.
The side dishes, especially the kimchi is very fresh, it tasted like authentic homemade kimchi. Clean table and chairs, organised crew. Flavours level: Legit.
Dom87
Spicy. Went there for a quick lunch on my own today, they have redone the place since I last went (ages ago!) and the decor is much nicer.

I ordered the spicy beef hot pot with starch noodle and egg. It was very spicy and moreish. The banchan was good, the kimchi tasted very fresh.

Also had the ginseng tea. Yummy!
Danny Newman
I enjoyed it, simple, good food. Loads of sides kept arriving. Friendly crew.
Open late, which was actually the only reason I went because the place I intended to visit was closed. Will go back.
Teddy Handry
Since the renovation, this restaurant has become my favorite destination to fix my Korean food craving.
They still single person menu option and added hot pot Korean style option.
Food is amazing and my favorite one is number 19, spicy beef ribs stew.
PhilYA
Simple Korean. Depends on what you expect when you go to these small places... but if you're hungry, don't want to wait too long, don't want to pay too much, not after anything too fancy, then this small Korean place will feed you and you will leave happy.
Kim
Horrible food. Tasted like it had been sitting there all day, luke warm and soggy.
Sumin Scott
Actually a really decent sized portion, I was expecting poor food for such poor reviews but was pleasantly surprised, nice side dishes too.

Had kimchi jigae there, and it was fantastic! Definitely going back for more. My partner had the dol sot bibimbap, and it was pretty good too! I've my own favourite korean restaurant but this isn't anywhere that bad a some have said.

Worst food I have ever eaten. No exaggeration. The food tasted as though it had been microwaved for half a minute after having been in a fridge for weeks. As in: it was disgusting and not even properly heated. On the bright side though, my friend did enjoy her ginger beer.

Tried the bi bin bam. Very disappointing. Small portion. Boring. Try elsewhere.

Decent portion for the price. Good food

The Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap, for $12.90, had hardly any meat in it. Disappointing.

Great location near Flinders Street station and nearby uni/colleges guarantees steady stream of passing trade, but not much else recommends this place for me. The bi bim bap I ordered was underwhelming, the food hardly took up much of the medium sized bow
MEL: HOT OR NOT
I would never have given Kim Chi Tray a second glance if she hadn’t suggested it as a quick and filling lunch stop. In fact, it’s got one of those frontages I tend to avoid without a recommendation – lurid pictures taped on the window, order by numbers and dishes with broad descriptions like ‘noodles with beef/chicken/pork’ or ‘rice with beef/chicken/pork’. And Canto/Japanese/Vietnamese (and in this case, Korean) music videos on loop! Urgh.
