Review Potsticker Restaurant - Melbourne

Emily May
Five of us came to The Potsticker in Caulfield North on a Saturday night for a feed. We ordered two of the Aussie Banquets, as well as vegetable Hokkien noodles, chicken and corn soup, hot tea, and we enjoyed the complimentary prawn crackers. The restaurant is quite fancy, and the food was also very delicious. Customer service was pretty good. Thank you Potsticker.

The pork waffle and dumplings were great! The XO prawns were a bit of a let down but the other mains were tasty. The fried ice cream and fried Banana were amazing.

Went to Potsticker for a birthday dinner, and experience was outstanding! Staff were great, nice to talk to- and efficient in taking your order. Scenery inside is amazing, with a big pond in the middle nicely decorated and a good bar with a lot of options. Food was tasty and nice. Highly recommended, whether dine-in, takeaway or delivery.

Very tasty yum cha with excellent service and wine list in lovely setting. Ornamental blossom tree with lights and water feature is a highlight centrepiece in the restaurant .

Beautiful venue with beautiful food and attentive staff. Lovely place to sit down for Chinese food.

The water feature within the venue adds to an additional touch to the otherwise nicely layout restaurant. Menu selection at lunchtime is done through traditional pen on paper ticks and you find yourself asking did I just order too much. The dishes start piling in and you soon start to feel that you just can’t stop eating or stop enjoying the next piece. In the end you’re full while thinking whether there’s any room left for desert. With its friendly staff I’ll definitely give his place another visit soon.

Dumpling skin very tough n not too thick. Beef content not tasty. Singapore noodle is a shame. No pride in their business. It was a disappointment. Been here twice n will never go again. To make it worse the male server was rude, bad mannerism n abrupt. They have a dessert which I ordered n was waiting but was not served . When asked he told me rudely it was sold out. He should have told me instead of keeping me waiting.

Would 100% recommend this place. The food was amazing! And the variety of drinks is incredible. Great cocktails and a wide range of wines.

I ordered the calamari and it was shockingly bad. It came soggy and way too large pieces. It was tasteless too. 🤢 shape up potsticker dining.

I often buy takeaway from Potsticker (Nasi Goreng) which I thoroughly enjoy however I did not enjoy eating in. I found it terribly annoying that we were all served and had everything put on our plates - we would have been happy having everything put in front of us and we just help ourselves. Found this very intrusive and ruined the night.

Yet to eat my meal, been meaning to try this place for years being a local and a quick call has just put me off.

I’ve just ordered $50 worth of dumplings and forgot to request some chili oil. Call the restaurant and ask for some chili oil, his response: “that will be 50 cents” Wouldn’t you just throw a little plastic container of chili oil in regardless with dumplings? Oh, and if I want some soy, “50 cents”

Let’s hope they’re Amazing dumplings. Either way I won’t be visiting or reordering.

I went to visit the store today 8th feb for lunch at 11.45am. I have visited here several times for business and once for personal. I ordered lunch boxes, as I usually do, evalina forgot to inform me of an extra charge for fried rice which is not listed on their website. When I got to the store she was incredibly rude to me in front of other customers although she was informed that the information was correct as per their website and people who call to order will use that. I found her condescending nature with no customer service to be inexcusable especially making myself and other customers feel uncomfortable as she continued to argue (I was not) about how it was correct by her menu. I don’t think any food is worth being made to feel that uncomfortable by someone who was rude. It is a Shame as prior to this I had good customer service but one really bad experience can cover several good experiences and now I will not deal with Evaline and am looking at new lunch options. Your staff are your restaurant, the service has to be decent.

The son (Ryan) is annoying
he kept on dancing around the restaurant singing let it go.
Only 5% discount and the yum cha smells like dogs
it was alright and i would recommend it
just tell the kid to stop singing
very good food and good service but the kid is annoying
Travelling Palate
This is a pleasant restaurant with lots of room so it accommodates large crowds easily. The yum cha is good but not great. Not quite as much choice as you find in other yum cha options in Melbourne. Comparatively the serving sizes are on the small side.

Went there today just to check it out. Not crowded around 12 noon, Saturday (more people arriving later). The place looks great inside, the fountain and all...Ordered two San Choi Bao's, spring rolls, fried whitebait (that's my favorite!), several types of dumplings (xiaolongbao, drunken prawn etc), chicken feet (my wife's favorite), BBQ pork buns.

What can I say? That was the best xiaolongbao I ever had (and we have been to quite a few Chinese restaurants - including some in China!) - particularly the taste of the juice and meat inside! The rest of the food was good too - flavours, presentation etc. The only thing we didn't rate high was the tea...Oh well, you can't win everything! LOL )))

Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Food arrived reasonably quick.

Overall - recommended.

went here with my man for valentines day. had rice and pork waffles for entree which was pretty good, the sauce on the pork smelt awful but tasted amazing. for mains we had prawns and sweet and sour pork. we wouldve thought for a fine dining asain restaurant the sweet and sour pork wouldnt come out like a normal deep fried dish you would get at a takeaway but was still yum. the moscato they had was stunning!!! waitress was pretty rushed and not in the best mood but thats understandable considering the restaurant was packed!!
Chefosaurus
Advertised as a Chinese restaurant... but menu does not read that way. Nothing traditional about the food, decor or service. For what you get for the price you pay it maybe better to travel to China and cheaper... this one is off my list.

When I walked in I thought this might be nice but then when I ordered the trouble happened. I specifically ordered without msg and they even said ‘ok I’ll make sure there’s no msg’ and ended up leaving.

Finally tried this place out after driving past it all the time it’s actually pretty good the food is all well priced and service is also good food came out quickly and was pretty good will definitely be going back next time I have a craving for Chinese

Living in this area, Potsticker was a good surprise. However their service is a bit up and down. We were served a bit rudely by one of the waitress on our second visit though the first visit was extremely pleasant. The food is always tasty.
Jumpingjojo99
Even 2.5 stars is generous. Very overpriced for Chinese food that is inferior to what you would find in a suburban food court. All I could taste was MSG and $20 for a plate of steamed vegetables is not ok. Even the dumplings had a bland but weird flavour which made me feel nauseated. Coupled with the depressing atmosphere and decor, which did not reflect the photos on the website, I was left feeling extremely disappointed.

Plusses slightly more than the minuses - a bit of a "Hit n Miss" this place. The venue itself has had a chequered history over the years - many other restaurant ventures offering different cuisines have tried their hands here and failed - badly. There were previously South African, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai unsuccessful ventures.

I have been here several times before under its different guises over the years, and now, as Potsticker, this is my 3rd visit, and seemingly it has had 3 ownership / management changes those 3 times!

Sadly for a place that is nicely decorated, with nice settings and a good ambience, it lacks "soul", not helped by a less than "warm-welcoming" waitstaff! Some seem timid, but they are mostly unsmiling!

2 of the 3 mains we had were excellent, but the 3rd one left a lot to be desired. The entrée of Duck and Chicken San Choi Bau were of average fare. The Truffle Scallops were exquisite, and the lightly battered Murray Cod fillets in Sweet n Sour sauce was scrumptious.

However. the Lobster Tail in XO sauce was barely edible! It was tough, chewy, bland (yes! lobster tail bland!). To me, is appears to be a hastily defrosted precooked lobster tail, stir-fried in the XO sauce! We left 1/4 of the dish untouched. I mentioned this to one of the cold unsmiling waitress (dressed in all-black) as she cleared the table of the unfinished meal and the spat-out inedible chewy bits - who nonchalantly said she will let the chef know ... but I doubt she ever did!

Bill came up to $215 (pre Entertainment Card discount - yes, this place is pricy for what it serves) for our Sunday lunch - with no apology for the shocking lobster dish, and with no discount offered for that very bad dish - this is not on, in my book, for any restaurant when a customer had made mention of a shocking dish, and particularly so for a pricy dish. Nonetheless, I left a smallish $5 tip.

PS: Potsticker has a great Yum-Cha menu, with mostly "not your standard yum-cha stuff". I spied some very innovative and interesting offerings. Will come back and give the Yum-Cha a go, and hopefully the venue and staff have found their mojo and inject some warmth and joy into the place!.
Manmar
Yum Cha where you fill out a list & they bring the dishes out. Very good, as usual. Standout items - special fried rice & mandarin beef. Extensive menu - lots of variety. BYO wine.

We went here for a birthday last night. The food was ok, but that's where it ended. The service was terrible.

They got five of our seven meals WRONG! Tried to blame us for ordering the wrong meals and not being clear enough, tried to give the same wrong dish to us several times and even got annoyed at is when we asked for the meals we ordered.

It just spoiled the evening. They were getting crabby with us when all we wanted was the food we ordered. The food was delayed given all the mistakes they made and in the end they did not take anything off the bill to compensate us for their attitude and getting the meals so completely wrong. DID NOT ENJOY.

So, if you want some ok food, sure come here. If you want to be sure that you're getting the food you ordered, and not get angry staff when they're wrong? Definitely go elsewhere. I know we will be.

Took the family for dinner and everyone loved it. The food was spot on and the service was friendly and efficient. The dumplings were very tasty and the beef spare ribs were amazing. Will definitely be heading back for more!
Spudsburgeradventures
Nice venue in Caulfield, it even has a fountain/pond area to dine around! The service here is good and very professional and the food is good without being outstanding. In my opinion it is very overpriced for what you get but it is tasty nonetheless, but if your looking for cheap dumplings and Asian food, this isn't the place.
Stella Quinert
went about a year ago - wanted sopme Chines food for Chine New Year - must have an off night but it was the worst Chinese food ever tasted - even the dumplings were dry and disgusting

worth to try. come with my friends birthday party . very good decoration and staff is polite. like here a lot.
just the price is a bit expensive. suggest the owner of the restaurant can make the portion size a bit bigger. thanks a lot!
Foodinfocusz
Really wish this place had more wow factor food wise and friendly service would be a bonus. The food is fine but simply that, nothing special.
Constantina Kyriazis
Delicious dumplings & the salt & pepper calamari is amazing!! To be honest, I haven't had 1 bad thing from here ever! Service is always lovely too & always feel welcome.

The Potsticker is in Caulfield North and many trams service this place. I have seen the Potsticker before on my way to Hillulium restaurant and had always wanted to try. The Escort and the Thief didn't like it so much. But then again they didn't go for yum cha and I did. It got a mixed review from me.A while ago I got the Groupon which was for 10 tiny courses of yum cha. Of course if I were to pay full price for them I would not be happy especially the cha siu bao which was small and priced at $2.80 each. At South Melbourne Market's Linx I can get bigger and better.
King Cole
A very solid Chinese restaurant with a nice varied menu. Everything had it's own taste and flavour (I've often find that some Chinese places can have some "samey-ness" about them) with a few of the dishes being real stand outs. In fact many of the dishes tend to have their own little twist to them.

Is it stunning? No, but you won't be disapointed either. Very pleasant and enjoyable meal.
Badabooma
A throughly enjoyable meal of dim sum, beef randang, salt & pepper squid, eggplant, roti & rice - fantastic flavours! The staff are great, attentive ensuring you're enjoying your meal without being intrusive. Will certainly be going back.
NK
Favourite Asian style food, salt and pepper tofu is to die for ! Restaurant is spacious, have had a few big tables there and the staff are great ! Need to get back there soon.
Traveller7201
First time here and we left satisfied and happy. Food is excellent quality and fresh. Service is pleasant and speedy. We will be back for sure and recommend to our friends. Tried the shredded beef with sesame, grilled beef tenderloin very tender and juicy. Salt and pepper calamari very nice. Kids loved the pork buns and prawn dumplings. Next time we would like to dine by the water garden table. Highly recommend.
Cat
I was disappointed that they don't have egg tarts, cheung fun and custard bun. I mean, I never been to a yum cha session without serving egg tarts!!!!!! Definitely not a best place for yumcha. Average dim sum but it's quite pricey. It does lack of choice in the menu and nothing has caught my attention for second visit.
Gemma
Consistently excellent. Love ordering from here, we always get the chills chicken dumplings and sesame beef loin, with steamed rice and pork buns, yum!
Ditton 22
Beyond bad.. In a very competitive yum cha market these clowns under archive to the extreme. Waitstaff and management will literally ignore you. Only to stop by occasionally to offer you deep fried crap.. Avoid at all costs if you have ever had good yum cha..hu tong prahran is not that far and a far better option.. So shit!!
Cara Griesberg
We love this place. I don't understand the bad reviews, we think it is amazing. The Malay Style King Prawns are so delicious and the most gigantic prawns you've ever seen. The Seafood Fried Rice is also delicious, I could eat that rice every day. The Black Pepper Beef is also a winner, beautiful, succulent pieces of beef with an amazing peppery sauce. Service is also very attentive and they are generally happy people and good to have a little laugh with.

Underwhelming food, underwhelming service. For the prices we paid, I was expecting actual restaurant quality food, but turns out they charge high for their swanky restaurant decor. I'd rather

I have been to Potsticker perhaps on three separate occasions and now that I am finally sitting down to write my review on this restaurant... I unfortunately cannot think of any noteworthy positives.

The cuisine is a mix between Asian, Chinese, and Malaysian and your standard meat dishes will set you back an absolute minimum of $19ish dollars and can range up to the $30 mark and beyond. Let's talk about the flavour - imagine your stock standard local Chinese food joint, now add another $10 minimum to each dish and put a fancy (seriously its pretty cool) LED tree as a centrepiece. Now I for one would much rather eat at some dingy looking Chinese restaurant that charges fair prices rather than Potsticker where I have the enjoyment of an LED tree to distract me from my pretty average meal. Up to you though.
FOOD TRIP
Went here for Yumcha but overall was a bit disappointed. The place is elegant and comfortable, but the food is average. Only a couple of dishes were worth ordering.Vegetarian Spring Rolls (4 pcs) $11.20. Overpriced and not worth it. Fillings were fail. 4/10. Poached Red Chilli Seafood Wontons (4pcs) $7.50
Bargain Hunter
Disappointing food. We had the Sunday eat all you can yum cha special at $30 per person and although the staff were organized for the 1:30 pm sitting (second sitting), the food delivery was chaotic especially at the beginning. Not your typical Chinese yum cha given that it was 'padded' with chicken Teriyaki skewers and fish balls in curry sauce. The fried food items arrived first with the steamed baskets arriving much later. Dessert was cheap but okay- coconut gelatin with some table even getting a bowl of mango mousse. There are better yum cha options elsewhere.
Stephy
Great dumpling. I have tried some of the best dimsums at potsticker. My favourite was the beef. Dumpling. We ordered crispy chicken and teriyaki beef as mains, the sauce from the crispy chicken was jam packed full of flavour and the beef was of good quality and extremely tender. If your passing by, have a try. Try the custard dessert dumpling.
Roz Swadling
Had yum Cha on wed excellent food . Service very good .
Kimmy_desu
There isn't anything too impressive about the food, and it is certainly overpriced for its quality. Most Chinese/Asian restaurants in the CBD or nearby suburbs are much better and cheaper, though the decor of the restaurant is quite special. Still that doesn't justify the ridiculous prices just because of the LED tree in the middle. I'd rather go somewhere crampy and shaggy and modest-looking for food that has better value.
Zbaby13
Amazing food!. This place is absolutely amazing! Food is delicious and service is always great !
Maven49
Never had a bad meal. Eaten here several times and enjoyed the food. It's not the greatest or the cheapest, but you can't go wrong. That's why I keep coming back. Good food, generous serves g
Foodie88
Used Groupon, overall good value for money. The waitress asked if we wanted tea and then charged 3.50 per person at the end. Be aware of hidden charges.
Won't go back though the food is so so.
Lkmleuk
Dont waste your time. The decor was nice....so brought my aunt visiting from sydney as we live locally. Shouldve driven 30mins further. The food was mediocre and overpriced. Wouldnt go back even if it was cheaper. All i can say is the positive reviewers are Non asian who dont knowhow good chinese food should taste....and desperate as caulfied is scarce in that regard.....keep driving.....
Tamara Goostrey
If you want good Chinese food, you've got to expect a bit of a price rise. I love the food here. The wait staff are very attentive and you can tell that there is heart in this place. Eric is so great and asking us to try new and different things on his menu. I'm happy to pay for this level of Chinese food.
Legriffonjenkins
Too expensive for an ok meal. Admittedly we ordered too much food as we hadn't been here before. It was very hit and miss. Some dishes were ok. My partner liked the duck. I found it too chewy. Traditional fried rice very tasty. Calamari too salty and no sauce for dipping. Have eaten tastier dumplings elsewhere. Very pricey for a local suburban restaurant. Food needs to be spot on if you are going to charge those prices. Corkage was $10 and tea was $3.50 each from the one teapot. Admittedly it was being constantly re-filled. Attentive waiters bordering on obsessive. Too many great Asian restaurants at much cheaper prices on Koornang Road for us to bother returning to Potsticker.
Bianca.voegele
A pearl. Great location, excellent service & delicious food. Had twice already chicken basil. Not cheap ...
Vladilana43
Frozen calamari!!!???. Waiters were trying very hard to please, but its O.K,but when i mentioned in the end of my diner that '" pepper and salt calamari" is not the best meal,i have not heard anyting in reply, consider that a waiter saw ,that i left everything on the plate!!! I would sugest,to remove the whole dish from the menue, untill you will have fresh calamari and know how to cook it! very disappointing!!
Laza999
An easy evening. Very nice food at a reasonable price. service was attentive and atmosphere Is family friendly.
Feeding_frenzy
Dumpling heaven. Firstly I never pay attention to a negative review written by a person with one review to their name. Anyway I had been wanting to eat here for a year and was very impressed. Service was a little too keen and too attentive but the food was mostly very delicious. Duck san choi bao was amazing. Won ton soup was great but the broth was needing a bit more depth and freshness. Chilli chicken dumplings were great but a bit doughy. Har gaw were full of delicious prawns but the wrapper needs refining, still I could eat these all day. Fried beef potstickers were probably the let down. Pork dumplings were really good. Custard buns were the best I've ever had. Would love to back for yum cha.
Dina
FROZEN VEGETABLES????. Never before have I been served what was so obviously frozen vegetables in a meal! The Vegetarian Fried Rice we ordered contained the usual ingredients; peas, diced carrots and corn, but also....... diced potato! I'm sure they used the same frozen vegetable mix that I occasionally buy at the supermarket. The chicken dish we ordered was tasty though. We have been for dinner a few times, and each time I thought the menu was over priced, but this time will definitely be our last!

I was disappointed with the service here, we went early 5.30 with our 14 month old daughter. We were the first in. Don't think they like having children in there first of all out daughter was pulling on the paper table cloths so we asked them to move it and he said he couldn't as they all had to stay on, so as we predicted she ripped it all despite our best efforts to stop her. There was several things after that they did that made us feel uncomfortable , taking my drink before is quite finished, taking food before finished properly etc. not child friendly at all even though we went a quiet time. Food was good though apart from one main dish (tofu am po very sloppy tofu ) they also burnt the veggie dumplings so they came later when they d done a second batch. Shame about the service really as it's right by where we live!
GJ
Never again. The last two times the food has been just ok, but very expensive. And the staff have been hopeless. We asked for certain courses to be served together, they were not, there was a change of staff halfway through the meal, there was no handover, they tried to charge us corkage for a bottle we didn't open. That was the last time for us.
Davidfh
CRAP not worth the 82% like.... CRAP
not worth the 82% like
Had Malaysian king prawns which were huge but soggy & bland
Dish 2 was meant to be crispy & tangy mandarin beef..... Well more like a poor version of sweet & sour beef ....cept not a shred of tang
Very average ..... More like food court food for $89!
The Tastebud
Yum cha lunch...ok. Attended at 12pm on a Friday for lunch.
I had read plenty of outstanding reviews of the restaurant so I thought that I had better try it out it ever in Caufield.

The Potstickers (pan fried beef dumplings) were avg.
The vegetable steamed dumplings - poor- as if they had used frozen diced veggies.
The snake beans and chicken mince- excellent;
Duck san choi boi- excellent;
Steamed prawn dumpling-ok;
Satay chicken- horrible (weird watery satay sauce);
Chilli dumplings- ok
Fried rice- excellent;
Fried ice cream- delicious.
Service was excellent and accommodating to our needs.

Not sure if we would trek down to Caufield to visit again. A pleasant meal.

Went to yum cha on Saturday.. what happened to this place?? Last time I was here was 6 months back and the food was amazing! Now it feels like the quality or even the chef has changed. Beef dishes had inedible pieces of tendon (??) in them.. Both red chilli dumplings tasted more of pepper then chilli.. Har gow was more dough then meat.. List goes on.. Really disappointed..
Jo
Food was delicious and reasonably priced, service was excellent, friendly/helpful staff and lovely atmosphere. We'll definitely be going back and have recommended to others as well.
T8h1
Way over priced! Food is ok but so many other options around here with better food at half the price.
Deborah Bell
Food was tasty but dreadful msg sleepless night that followed - wakeful, sweaty, dry mouth and eyes and almost no sleep - wish I had never eaten here. Will no be returning
Kathleen Stibbard
Not my thing. This was very disappointing, food overall was not up to scratch..Waiters very pushie, one of the dishes we ordered was crispy skin chicken, and when it arrived it was lemon chicken, I said to waitress this is not the chicken we ordered and she replied this is how we make it. I could go on. Never again.
GB
Recommended.. Haven't dined in but get a lot of takeaway from here.

Highly recommend the poached red chilli chicken dumplings, XO chilli king prawns and teriyaki beef tenderloin.

A bit pricier than other Chinese/Asian but the servings are pretty good.
Sammywk
The food here was soooo good!!! And the service was great. It's true they didn't give the price of specials like other reviews state but you could ask? This place was great and I'll definitely be back
Micheleselby3
Birthday at Potsticker. I went to Potsticker for a friends birthday. We were told about the "specials" but were not given a price for these. We thought that the food was expensive for what you got. No wonder the restaurant was more than half empty. We won't go back.
Food LOve
Loved the dumplings and mango pudding.
Baubaibai
Love it. This restaurant is not the cheapest but it offers good food and pleasant hospitality. Food is considered to have high standard even from a Chinese perspective. The fusion pan seared oyster is very very yummy. The banana fritter coated with barley tempura is a must have even for someone like me who doesn't like this kind of fusion food. Service is exceptional. The owner and other waitresses are very friendly and helpful which makes you want to come back again and again. The centerpiece when you first enter the restaurant has seasoned flowers and plants and fish when you enter is a centrepeice that attracts your attention.
Mariposa
Been twice. Excellent food, meat dishes are cooked to perfection, very fresh. Like the decor. Efficient service.
RR
Poor Taste. After reading the reviews, I thought we try takeaway. Will never go back, the food taste, preparation and quality was worse than food court.
Sarah
Good food. Yum Cha is good, been here twice now and enjoyed both occasions. Make sure you ask for the list so you can order your favourites, otherwise they just keep bringing out a small selection to choose from. Nice surroundings too - not your typical 'Chinese restaurant'!
Ann
On a busy saturday night we were placed at the communal water feature table which had a brightly lit tree in the middle of it. Certainly something you don't normally see but it added to the Japanese feel. After waiting a few minutes for a menu, we ordered the $38 banquet. There were 5 dishes included and all were truly delicious. The highlights being the BBQ beef which was so tender, the seafood & bean curd soup & the mango panna cotta which topped the meal off perfectly. Whilst the service was a touch slow at times, with a banquet it is probably a good thing so you don't feel rushed. Overall, an excellent experience. Looking forward to returning to try the dumplings!
NC
Been twice. Have been twice once for dinner and once for Yumcha - think the Yum cha dissapointing as you need to order the sharing plates - but everything was delicious.
Am going again tonight.
Sandy
Not bad. A little pricey but fairly tasty. We'll be back
Triedit
Very average - don't bother. Sunday Yum cha with a menu, I can live with, but then bringing one little plate every 20 minutes is just silly. Four people sitting around looking at one plate makes the whole experience just stupid. I can understand if they were busy but there were only two tables being served. Many other options for Yum cha don't waste your time or money, food ok but not great and prices are not value for money.
Bestqualitycrab
We love coming here as a family. Favorites include: the unusual but tasty laksa dumplings. The honey chicken is a big hit with the kids. Service is fast and the atmosphere is just like home (except for the pink tree and fountain on display in the centre of the restaurant). We definitely don't have one of those at home.
Annetteblight
This place is great!. This is a review that is not written after a one off experience. I have been to the Potsticker around 5 times and that is because I love it. The food is really wonderful, fresh and tasty. I can't understand the reviewer who wrote that things are microwaved - what nonsense! The Potsticker takes food seriously and this is so evident in the care given with the menu - it is an Asian restaurant not a Chinese restaurant so the food is influenced by Malay, Chinese and Japanese. So not just a cheapish Chinese restaurant as some reviewers obviously think.

The staff are very well trained, and in fact I have always commented on the level of service (so don't know why some think this is not the case).

The Potsticker replaced a series of restaurants that came before it.....none of them on the same level of Potsticker and being a local, I hope the Potsticker remains for a very long time to come.

And yes, I've also been to Ripples many times (another local) and although the food is very good there - I think Potsticker is so much better. A more upmarket dining experience.
Bruce
All style, no substance. This place tries way too hard with the decor but doesn't focus the same effort on the food or service. The menu is all over the place and attempts to offer a broad range of asian cuisines (Chinese, Thai, Japanese) but falls short of pulling any of them off. The prices are pretty high for the poor quality of the food and the service leads a lot to be desired.
Chunk Alunk
This place seems to have become a victim of some cowardly hate campaign. Just check out the incredibly generic "usernames" and multiple posts by the same people.
Don't believe everything you read, this restaurant has come a long way in a very short time. The staff are polite and even a little soft spoken, and the food may be a little more expensive than usual but the great presentation and serene atmosphere make up for it. Tasty little dumplings, will be back!
Amanda
What negative nonsense some people concoct.
My experience was positive, the prawns were big and fresh (not the frozen type), the dumplings were tasty and the service was fine.
A good local Asian restaurant.
Mark Chatswood
Horrible food and service. This place is terrible. The food is tasteless and is probably microwaved. Every dish is overpriced and the staff are needlessly rude and desperately need to learn some manners. Avoid eating here.
James Usbourne
Bland, overpriced dishes with a side of terrible service:. I've been to Potsticker around five times and every time the food has been terrible and very overpriced. To make things worse, the staff have always been rude and the service has been disappointing. The plates and cutlery often come out dirty, which is worrying, and asking the staff to change it will get you nowhere. The decor is really tacky and the place has no atmosphere.

I would avoid this place, there are many good restaurant in the area where you don't have to put up with rude staff and high prices for disgusting food.
John Sanza
Excellent but Pricey. Can not fault food or service, price a little expensive compared with similar yum cha ie oriental tea house or David's
Nikki O
Great modern Asian food we get takeaway once a week. I was abit tentative when they moved in as everything before pots ticker in this venue has been a dismal failure for many years. Great place
Peter Bruce
Forget about everything you have heard or read about this place. Do not go near the place. Total failure in every dining respect.
Darren Greenway
I went for dinner there a few weeks back and it was nice, then decided to go for yum cha... Hmmmm well it was ok.. Very expensive for yum cha.. The dumplings were pretty bland and squid over salted, the service just ok.. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it.. For what you get it's very over priced and really not worth the money $145 for 3 of us including 2 glasses of wine and a few cokes.. So I won't be rushing back
Fleur Luke
Best Beef Potstockers!. We've had take away from here a couple of times and it's been fantastic! The panfried beef potstickers are delicious, best I've ever had, also the crispy shredded beef is amazing! Teriyaki beef was cooked to perfection, so tender and delicious.
Will definitely eat here again wether it's take away or dine in.
Highly recommended.
Brilea
Pleasant. We had a lovely yum cha. Great Peking duck and a few different things. Overall great food but a touch expensive

Very Promising. Service was prompt and attentive, food was delicious. The dumplings we had as an entree were exceptional and I will be back for yum cha to explore them more fully. Few businesses survive long on this piece of real estate, but The Potsticker deserves to buck the trend and thrive.

If it aint broke, don't fix it!! Yumcha is a tried and tested formula. The stacked bamboo steamers and small bowls crowd on the table with many delicious morsels.. Why do Potsticker think they can do it better with large plates and big square glass serving dishes. The small tables are crowded as soon as u order two dishes!! The clatter and chaos of things sliding off the big square glass plates are not helped with incompetent , but officious wait staff. Even the chopstick rests are wire sculptures the size of Christmas balls. Badly overdesigned table setting and service are reflected in the ugly chaotic decor of the restaurant.. All this means, of course, that they can charge alot more for yumcha- because they have "improved" it. It's expensive for yumcha and bad experience.. This new place needs a big rethink and perhaps a return to the yumcha service that works..

Raw Dumpling!. Our evening at The Potsticker didn't get off to a good start...we called ahead to find out whether the restaurant was BYO and told that it certainly was. We arrived with some beers which were promptly taken away and popped in the fridge by staff. When we asked for the beer, we were told it was BYO wine only and despite us saying that's not what we were told, staff insisted that it was. No apology for the confusion or any mention of it when we arrived with the drinks.

We then ordered a serve of pork dumplings as an entree and 2 of the 3 in a serve were cold and raw (the third was only warm). The staff didn't apologise - just said that the oven wasn't working properly and then that they were just too frozen! They remade the dumplings which then came out with the mains. The rest of the meal wasn't too bad, however I would say it was overpriced for the serving sizes. When the bill came, we were actually charged for the dumplings and insisted that the be removed.

Definitely will not be returning...

Yum Cha. We're a family of two adults, a four year old and a 23 month old who regularly do yum cha on the weekend either together or with other families and friends.
We live locally and went to The Potsticker as we didn't want to travel far or deal with the parking in Box Hill, Footscray or Chinatown.
As we were the first people in for Sunday yum cha, the trolleys were not being used and, understandably, we ordered off a menu.
Pros:
- Clean and vibrant decor.
- Interesting and tasty variations on traditional dim sums (juicy laksa dumplings were delicious).
- Traditional dim sum were also exceptional. The har gow literally burst with flavour, with good texture and tenderness in a wrapping that had perfect density. They have a very good dim sum chef.
Cons:
-Price. We paid $81 for a family of four where our 23 month old had one apple juice and a piece of onion pancake (which was also very good), and we all left still a little hungry.
$7 for a pot of jasmine tea, which turned out to be a gourmet blend and the waitress didn't mention that sharing a pot with an extra cup for my husband (or was it the second filling of the pot?) actually COST us more! Sorry, but no amount of delicious jasmine tea is going to take the taste of being ripped off out of our mouths.
Also, not having the prices listed is a little devious as the panfried beef potstcikers cost $11. Potstickers for $11?? I'm sorry, unless it's wagyu or organic grassfed beef and hand ground wheat for the wrappers, I can't imagine how a plate of potstickers, peasant snack food from northern China, can cost so much. You can get a huge plate of them in Chinatown for $7.
At the time of ordering, we were being upselled roti for the children, so I can only imagine how much that would've cost if we took up the offer.
- Service. Having read a review that supported the restaurant's beginner status and having kept an open mind, I now also support the other reviews that complained about the inconsistent service. One waitress was friendly, one waitress seemed resentful, whilst the others were just inattentive. As most ethnic Chinese restaurants (Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwanese, Singaporean or Malaysian) during yum cha tend to err on the efficient and distant, I took the attitude in good stride, despite us being the only people in there for the first 40 mins, until I saw the bill. If I'm paying $81 for yum cha and leave still feeling hungry then service with attitude gives me serious indigestion. More so when the waitress who tallies your bill acts like she's doing you a favour.
-Family unfriendly. Yum cha is often the place to go if you have young children as they can eat and enjoy a wide variety of food in a fun atmosphere. This is not the place to take children who are under school-age as the decor and general unfriendliness of staff are unsuitable.
Conclusion:
I don't think The Potsticker quite know what clientelle it wants for its yum cha trade, which I expect will develop over time and is likely to go the way of a calm and quiet experience without children.
If you like interesting twists on traditional dim sum and don't mind paying a lot for it, then The Potsticker should suit. Just don't expect consistently friendly service, and be aware of the prices.
If you have children, live near Caulfield and don't want to travel far and pay the earth for a dumpling, go to The Silky Apple on the corner of High St and WIlliams Rd in Armadale. They know their trade, they cater for families and large groups, the wait staff are knowledgable, friendly and efficient.
Would I go to The Potsticker again? Not to eat in, but perhaps to order take away from what looks like a reasonable priced menu as the food was delicious.
However, we won't be returning for yum cha. Not even without the children. The prices are super prohibitive and unfriendly service when you have young children is a real put-off.

Potsticker. Fantastic food, different and great service from all the waiters and manager. Recommend it for anyone looking for good fusion cuisine!

Love this new local!. Just reading the other reviews on this page and cant believe how harsh they are to a restaurant that has only just opened? I have found every time I have dined at Potsticker I am amazed at just how well they have got it together in such a short time. In the five times I have been there, the place has been practically full so they have been under alot of pressure early. I also wonder what immediate competition they are talking about? I find Nth Caulfield full of homestyle, poorly presented restaurants. Finally someone who knows what they are doing! I will be supporting this restaurant because they have had the guts to invest in this area, I just hope everyone else does too as this is a real gem. We loved the food and I was impressed with the service. I thought the peking duck was up there with the very best I have ever had. Yum Cha was fantastic as well. I highly recommend the Potsticker and think armchair critics should start up their own restaurant and see how hard it is to have everything perfect from day one.

Working hard but not there yet.. It started with not being able to find our booking and an assertion from the waiter that we hadn't booked. We did book but they simply hadn't recorded it. I didn't value the attitude. The boss intervened and we got our table. The wait staff are trying but they are no where near acceptable. Just for the record do not remove plates whilst people are clearly still eating. Unfortunately the quality of the food was mixed. It might get there but the competition is tough and there is more to do.

Wow.... An amazing dining experience, menu, food and service were beyond expectations, a welcome addtion to dining in Caulfield.

Ambiguous menu with inflated costs to beverages & corckage! Extensive wine selection but very pricy compared to normal retail. Overall the taste of Asian cuisine was good & very polite staff.

Nothing special however okay. A few garnishes on a couple of the plates and smiles from the staff would have been nice!!

We chose a variety of dishes from a comprehensive menu and really enjoyed the food I would describe as refined Asian cuisine. Despite an incredibly busy evening, Sam, our waiter, was friendly and very professional.

The restaurant describes their cuisine as Asian fusion and it was most enjoyable. not sure about the purple lit “tree” in the midst of the water feature table though! at least it explains the purple hue visible in most of the photographs!

Dumplings are all fairly mainstream and there's enough to keep us interested. Some favourites didn't appear though like cheung fun, egg tarts and custard buns but I guess being quiet and catering to Western crowds probably has a factor to play.
