R is for the realness Ikkoryu brings
A is for the aromatic ramen broth
M is for the man-made noodles and gyoza wrappers
E is for the excellent service
N is for the nice staff

This place embodies what it means to have quality ramen noodles in Melbourne. I tagged along with a Melbourne influencer who enjoys meeting new people and tasting what Melbourne has to offer.

I ended up having the yuzu Koshu ramen. Don’t be put off by the green broth because it was soooo tasty. Pork and citrus is a well tried and tasted flavour combination and with the unami, it just makes it extra special. I could eat this every week. I haven’t had anything like it before and every ramen aficionado, or even a casual fan should try this at least once.

Gyozas are tasty and they make their skins on site. If you feel like being extra naughty, get the deep fried gyoza skins, it’s the snack you never knew you needed. So addictive. We were also treated to the marinated pork ribs which were intense but tasty. I definitely had the meat sweats.

The restaurant itself, while spacious, has an intimate feel. It feels hidden but you’re in the Paris end of the CBD. An excellent sake and beer collection. Ikkoryu feels high end, but at reasonable prices.

Whether it’s a work lunch time thing, or an after work thing, or a dinner out with friends… you won’t be disappointed here. I’ll be going again, and by the time you read this, I was probably there a few times over.

In the name of the father, son and the holy noodles…. Ramen.

This is one of the more underrated ramen places in our opinion. Ikkoryu Fukuoka is located in a spacious basement and offers delicious customisable ramen similar to the more popular places.

What sets this place apart is the yuzu kosho ramen, which is what we usually come here for. The broth is spicy, rich and flavourful. The noodles are cooked perfectly and the ajitama egg is marinated well. A word of caution to bean sprout haters - They come as a default so ask to omit if you want to!

We highly recommend coming to try, especially for this unique ramen!

A basement area, so can be missed if you're not sure what you're looking for (although signage is still pretty prominent). Excellent ramen,if anything a little salty, but it's good, fast and easy esp if you've just finished work in the CBD and can't be bothered cooking.

I've only been to Ikkoryu's other shop down La Trobe which has now been closed, so this is my first time visiting their main store. It is quite spacious for a ramen shop and is more relaxed rather than in a confined space.

We had some of their sake on offer in tall shot glass and was overflowed into a box. I've always questioned the cleanliness when Japanese restaurants do this, bottoms up!

Ramen itself comes with a full checklist of customisable offerings. We didn't mess around and got their tonkotsu, getting other variations is considered risky. For me, it's all about the broth. I got extra heavy and it delivered, pork broth was rich with little globs of fat, this went straight to my heart. As it was thick it clung onto the noodles quite well, the texture (extra hard) again was spot on providing a satisfying bite. The chashu was very soft, bamboo was lightly spiced and sweet but I found the ajitama a bit funky for my preference. We did not order any other dishes as you have the option to get an extra serving of noodles (free) and we made sure to capitalise on this. I suggest getting an extra serving when you are nearly done, depending on the texture of the noodles they can come out in less than a minute. Give it a quick swish around and you're ready for round 2.

Quite pricey for ramen especially when you include all the add-ons but well justified, this is some quality ramen. Love to try their other variations next time and maybe some other nibbles however it's difficult to pass up on an extra serving of noodles.

A bustling underground gem in Melbourne CBD where you can build your own ramen! The portions are generous and the broth is top notch. Service leaves much to be desired at peak meal times, but the staff are generally friendly.

Fantastic "hidden" ramen place. I say hidden because it is located in a walk-too-fast-and-you-might-miss-it spot (that, and also it's located away from all the other ramen places).  Very roomy despite what you might think while walking down a narrow staircase.

The menu is almost like a 'choose your own adventure' type menu where you can select how strong you want your broth, whether you want extra noodles, spring onions etc etc.

The portion is just perfect - not too small, not too big - just enough to make you feel full and satisfied :)

My score 4.0 stars. J and I had lunch here on Tue 28th of May. We got there lateish and it was quite full. There was a nice quiet bustle, spacious seating, including big bench seats. Background music was good. Guy who served us was laid back and friendly.  Water was brought to our table, as well as instructions for creating your own ramen and how to best enjoy your ramen.

J had a Vegetarian Ramen ($17). Lovely miso broth, rich and a bit salty (yummy umami). Boiled egg cooked just to the right point and added ground sesame seeds were great. Bean shoots, spring onion greens and thinly sliced fungus (nice and chewy), but pickled bamboo shoots were the star. A lovely experience.

I had a Black garlic ramen ($17 std). Heavy broth, normal soy, light ramen oil, spring onions greens, standard hard noodles, upgraded to pork belly for extra $1.  I also got the extra free noodle option. Broth fantastic, rich and garlicky but not over the top.  Thin black fungus strips and bean shoots. Overall flavour very creamy, could have done with pickled bamboo shoots to offset the richness.  Happy with firm noodles and thinly sliced pork belly was really good (and not like eating meat).  Extra noodles were a lot, but I enjoyed them, as it’s not a huge bowl.

This is the first serious ramen place we’ve been to, so hard to compare with our few other poor experiences – however to us it seemed wonderful.  I’m sure there’s a lot of ramen experience we don’t have, but we enjoyed ourselves immensely…

We visited Ikkoryu Fukuoka ramen for lunch and it was basically empty when we arrived. The restaurant is situated on the corner of Flinders lane and Russell st, but you enter on Russell st.
I tried the Original Tonkotsu ramen ($15) with extra kaedama (for free!), whereas my friend had the Yuzu Tonkotsu ramen ($17) and we shared a side of Chicken Karaage. The menu allowed us to customise our own ramen, but I mainly stuck to the recommendations.
The karaage was probably one of the best that I’ve had- there were four pieces, and it was every bit worth the price ($10). It was so juicy and crispy! There was also sauce which you could dip it into, which made it even more delicious. My Original Tonkotsu ramen was also very good. The broth was flavourful but not too salty, and the noodles were nice to eat also (I ordered hard texture). The ramen in general was very filling, especially since I ordered an extra serving of noodles. The Yuzu Tonkotsu ramen looked amazing too, so I’m hoping to try it next time.
The venue is very spacious and clean, and the decor is so pretty. The staff is also very attentive and helpful. I’m looking forward to being more creative with my customisation next time and explore other dishes on the menu!

One of the best Japanese ramen shop in Melbourne. I’ve been here couple of times and the taste, quality and service have always been impeccable. I’ve even tried their spicy ramen with 4 chilli level, and barely made out alive. This time around I tried the extra rich broth ramen. It is pure bliss. I even had extra noodle and funished it all up. Try the Asahi Black on tap. This time I went with sake (forgot which one it was) and really enjoyed it.

Good ramen that is customisable, personalised, and can cater to large bookings? This place does all of this well!

Today I ordered a combination fitting of one after a broth that is rich, with loads of meaty products. The broth was good, real nice taste to it however found that the addition of garlic (complimentary on the table) really helped establish the flavour fully. The meats were also very tender, easy to eat whilst the egg was soft and tasty too.

The flavours here come together well for a good, hearty ramen. Worth trying out for sure!

Absolutely fabulous hidden gem! Japanese comfort food at its best. I had ramen noodles, as good as any I’ve had in Japan, my husband had a selection of small dishes which were all delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are lovely, it will be our go to for a casual dinner when we are next in town.

The first time I had ramen here, it's so delicious. The broth is rich and thick with just enough spice to make your taste buds tingle but not too much where the whole dish becomes overwhelming--I love how each bite feels like an mini-feast! With an array menu options to choose from as well as fantastic service that makes sure everything goes smoothly (plus those hardworking staff members!), I recommend booking a booth if at all possible and take friends who appreciate good food. We will definitely be back!

Cool vibe to the place and good beer. You can have your ramen cooked basically however you want (you get a sheet to fill in). Highly recommend

Ramen was delicious. I enjoyed personalising my ramen by choosing exactly what I wanted from the soup to the noodles. the price was responsible for the ramen, until you have to add on the extra egg and sea weed. The staff were friendly. The atmosphere I felt was lacking, it was a bit messy. But the ramen was really good. I highly recommend checking this ramen place out.

This place is better than their competitor on Russell Street where you have to wait in line for 30-40 minutes (you know what I'm referring to and I don't know why their quality dropped). Ikkoryu has plenty of seating, no wait time, great broth and ramen with customisable options. Thanks for having me, I'll be back here next time I'm in Melbourne.
