Review Bhoj - Melbourne

Delicious food 😋 Our family really enjoyed mouth watering food at Bhoj. Very happy with the quality and portion size of everything we ordered. Service was amazing too. I’m definitely going back.

The most creamy Soy Champs I ever had. Not joking, even in India I never ate such melting soy champs. It literally melts. Staff is amazing, services are so quick and prompt. And of course it’s Dockland so location is also great that even if you over eat out of greed, you can always have a nice stroll outside. Well, I was so in love with champs that Couldn’t even take a picture of it. But yes, Chicken tikka is here for an idea about their presentation

Recently renovated nice ambience. We tried vegetarian food which was tasty. Good in quantity as well as quality. Kind and welcoming host. Lively music and dance floor. It has become a go to place for our friend's birthday celebrations.

Food was tasty, service was really good. Much better than my initial perseption.

Authentic delicious Indian food experience. Generous portions and full of flavour. Gentle service and lovely ambiance. It felt we were somewhere else, a little culinary trip without getting out of Melbourne.

Hi team Bhoj, thanks to your hospitality and delicacy we had a wonderful evening. Paneer Mircha was my favourite 😀😀

Had a lovely time having dinner with family today. The food was delicious and served in good quantity. The spice was just right! The hostess was polite and helpful! Would definitely recommend!

Had a dinner today was wonderful with my family and friends and the entrees were amazing specially fish pakora and goat masala the presentation was so awesome the mains were good as well. Really liked being there will come back soon. Highly recommend to other friends and family as well.

This is actually a long-pending review – better late than never, as they say. Well, Bhoj is arguably one of the best Indian restaurants in Melbourne, located at the scenic Docklands. We arrived at this place after some Sunday shopping; I had my sister, brother-in-law, and little nephew for company. The food was yummy – as per our expectations. The staff was really courteous, so much so that the owner himself came up to our table and had a chat with us.

The overall experience was quite satiating after a sumptuous brunch — loved it!

A small suggestion, if I may (things might be better now); given the quality and the taste, the presentation of the food/dishes could be better to enhance brand Bhoj even further.

My Ratings are as follows:
Ambience: 3.5,
Food: 4+,
Service: 4.5

Keep it up, Team Bhoj!

Sincere apologies for a late review. Would love to visit you guys again; hopefully sometime soon.

Cheers
Partha

Invited an old friend to lunch here last week. The Pani Puri was excellent. The breads were good. My friend liked it so much he came back a couple of days later with family and friends for dinner. This week, I had lunch with a couple of workmates. They all liked it.

Been there with my group on tour. Had korma, kofta sabji, daal and rice with chicken curry. I have Typically observed in Australia over 11days time that the indian food tastes nothing like indian food. But in Bhoj I was surprised it tasted like authentic Indian food. Gajar ka halwa (sweet carrot) was yummy... even if I had diet restrictions i cheated😉
We personally met the owner and was a warm homely experience.
Must must try in Australia.

Found this restaurant through the booking site The Fork. The service is ok, not great but not as bad as how some of the reviews on here makes it out to be.
The pani puri was alright, I liked the fact they kept the tamarind sauce and mint juice separate from the shells.
The mains are great! All very generous with the proteins (chicken, paneer, mushrooms) the sauces were all unique in flavour. The paneer methi malai was amazing, highly recommend it.

As someone who thoroughly researched their restaurants before visiting, i came to bhoj keeping in mind that their service was quite poor from other reviews, however the extent of this falling short was drastically far from what i had anticipated.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a blunt and confused waitress, we kindly asked if we could be seated outside and were told rudely “no.” so we brushed it off an sat inside. 2 minutes later 2 families were seated outside, and more families thereafter. It was a wednesday night with only 4 tables occupied so i highly doubt the outside tables were reserved.

Food took so long to come out that i had an argument with the waitress who constantly said the food was “ready” however couldn’t bring it out. Other families who came in shortly after me also looked very upset at the wait time.

The samosas we had were decent, the sauce accompanying it was quite nice.
Got the Seekh kebabs despite reading poor reviews on it and we could understand why, can confirm they do not taste fresh and flavours are very unappetizing.

On a positive note, the butter chicken i waged war for was actually very good, one of the best i’ve had which is a shame that it came from a restaurant that is obviously suffering due to their lack of service skills.

Overall no one could pay me to return here, my partner and i both had stomach pains following this dinner and from observing the kitchen, cleanliness was not promptly upheld in their restaurant as well. I don’t recommend dining at Bhoj to anyone.

Had friends over from Europe. Bhoj did not disappoint. Great service (good effort by the staff remembering the whole order no notes written). Polite and happy to chat.
Great food and reasonably priced with a good view of the water.
They even let us chat and catch up while they packed up around us. No pressure to go.
Happy to recommend to others and happy to return.

Came to this resto with the fork half price dining. There are mixed review but we decided to try it anyway. We ordered seekh kebab, zafarani nawabi tikka, goat curry, saffron rice, and garlic naan bread. We were not happy with the seekh kebab (lamb mince) and zafarani nawabi tikka (chicken) as the meat does not taste fresh. We had informed the waiter and he told us that they are cooking them fresh, maybe they cook them fresh however the meat itself wasn't fresh. Garlic naan and goat curry were tasty tho. And mango lhasi also nice. But won't be back.

A good place to be. With open and indoor sitting area. Good taste. Nice ambience. Good price. Ate malai paneer kofta and dal masala tadka. Both were good.

“Everyone Keeps Coming Back” according to their Tagline.
We tried this place on the spur of the moment last night. What a pleasant surprise!
From the warm, friendly welcome by the Maitre d’, to the decor and the food itself, we couldn’t fault it!
As one of us had already eaten, we only ordered some samosas followed by the Chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan.
The spice level was hot, (at my request) which was a very pleasant 7/10 level of heat. The curry was absolutely delicious! Full of a complexity of flavours with the different spices perfectly blended together. It with accompanied by a light and slightly crispy, mouth watering, garlic naan.
Service was attentive and pretty fast which was much appreciated last night. My only regret was that we weren’t hungrier when we entered.
Guess we’ll be heading back soon to sample a more extensive range of the menu - just like their tagline says.
Will add photos when I do!!!

Awesome meal, nice staff, owner/manager personally greets and check for requirement and needs, best peaceful place to have dinner with family, or business partners, bit pricey due to location, though no compromise with the food quality, loved this place from last 10 years.

We have previously dined at Bhoj and enjoyed our experience, however, I think the management may have changed, because our recent experience was not that enjoyable. We had the samosas and chicken tikka for our starter, which was quite nice.
We had southern fish curry, lamb ghosht, baghare baingan (eggplant) and dal masala for our mains.
The southern fish curry was nice, but the eggplant was not tasty, it was a gloopy creamy mess.
The dal masala also surprisingly fell short, considering it is a staple Indian dish. The lamb was okay but could have been spiced better. The place looked gloomy. The used cutlery from our starters were placed directly on the table cloth for us to re-use, instead of on a plate or replaced with new cutlery. They have also changed the serving dishes which are not appealing and lower the tone of the restaurant, which used to be so good. This is why I wonder if Management has changed?

Delicious food! The food tasted so fresh it had a great balance of flavours. Would definitely order again from here, I highly recommend to everyone

This restaurant is housed in the docks of Melbourne and definitely has a very pleasing view from it. We ordered chicken tikka and malai tikka and my verdict about them is that they weren’t that good. They could have been much better as compared to many restaurants I have tried. For mains we ordered butter chicken, shahi paneer and malai kofta. They were pretty good and made up for the blunder with entrees. Butter chicken was really a clear winner.

In desserts we had ras malai and gulab jamun which we’re very decent. Service was a bit slow. Overall it was a good experience but we can definitely find much better places with much better food to offer.

LOVE this place! Everything was delicious but I most recommend the tandoori meats and butter chicken. The customer service is really good! Nice ambience and good location in docklands. Worth a visit!

Really loved the food!

Menu is quite different from what other Indian restaurants are offering in Melbourne and that's what attracted me. Thanks for living upto my expectations :)

Being a very big chaat fan I keep trying panipuris and chaats at different places...I visited bhoj to fulfil one of my chaat craves ...since they had pani puri I planned to give it a shot...was pretty decent..way better than many places I have tried around Melbourne in past 8 months...Jus that it is very spicy so if u dnt like spicy food mention it to them as you place your order...I clicked the picture only after I almost finished it all up...😛

The food is disgusting. It’s a slap on the great indian cuisine! Today when we called to book they told us that being australia day they have a special from $28 per person and they will not serve the ala carte menu because staff will be very busy. They also took advance payment on the phone for the buffet. Though $28 per person is not expensive at all the food was pathetic. There was absolutely no taste in a basic like daal makhani that is an absolute favourite most who go out to eat indian food. The paneer was like rubber. I could not muster the courage to eat it and the gravy tasted like it’s made out of a pre made packet.

When we were heading out i went up to the lady manager and gave her feedback. She pointed towards a gentleman (probably her husband). They were both expressionless.

We were further disappointed to see that some people were being served different dishes which let us to believe that ALA Carte menu was being served.

If the manager/owner reads this please note that a girl called Priya took our reservation and advance payment. Should have not fallen into the trap. Never going to visit this place again!

A decent family restaurant. Very basic presentation of food. Food was not disappointing but not very flavoursome. Just ok-ok experience nothing too exciting. Needs some improvement as we asked for soda water and coles soda bottle was served to us. Management should take care of these little things. Overall a decent restaurant but not a must visit place.
Good Food Good Mood
Definitely nothing memorable about this experience. I am frankly surprised that an Indian person suggested it to me. I did not feel the pricing was justified given the quality and quantity of what we received. How on earth is a garlic naan $4.50 it is literally just flour and takes all of twenty seconds to make. Butter chicken was nothing to write home about either.
Vikas Kumar
Used to be better earlier than now. Not sure if theres been a management changed or just complacency, but the standards have dropped a lot since the early days.
Slush Puppy
I went to the restaurant during a weekday, extremely quiet. We were one of 2 tables, ambience was sad but decided to stay as we were starving. The entrees: Lamb chops were divine and cooked well. The chicken minced kebab however were very disappointing, I understand the meaning of an entree but these kebabs were the size of matchsticks, I felt robbed. The methi chicken curry was tasty. The garlic naan was the best I have tasted, really thin, enough crisp and not chewy. Apart from the kebabs, good food overall. Do work on the decor, typical dated indian setting. Also, do not send out plates with chips, not a good impression.

I find this restaurant to be what we Brits refer to as "all mouth and no trousers". It's very expensive, the portions are minuscule and quite frankly, I've eaten better quality wholesome Indian food at very average places within inner city Melbourne. Just because the restaurant is located in the Docklands, I don't think it warrants the prices, especially when the quality of the food doesn't match up. Terribly disappointing dining experience. Needless to say, I'll stick to the lesser-known Indian eateries that really do put their money where their mouth is.

Great food ! Great service ! Just had street food there today. It was above my expectations. Would definitely go there again for a full meal soon. :)

Amazing flavours. We had a banquet and thoroughly enjoyed all courses. The staff were all friendly and the service was great. The chef even came out at the end of the night to see how the meal was and have a quick chat.
We will definitely come back again on our next trip.

Went on families get together on this tiny place. Well customer services but not the tasty food what expected. A bit pricey place, good location, but as usual very oily for even Indians.

Newquay Docklands, great views, great promenade, plenty of bats and restaurants, no people!
You'd come here for a meal if you felt like Indian food and you happened to be in Newquay...the three course buffet seems to be good value at first glance, entree, mains and dessert for $25.
The entrees were decent, onion bhaji was tasty but felt a bit like they were starting to fall apart because they had been sitting in the fridge for awhile (we were the only diners there on a weekday lunch); samosas were generously filled and pastry had crunch, but they were a bit stingy with their papadams, only one per person! The mains were a bit of a let down, a listless dhal, good consistency but no flavour, the other curried were ok, but lacked any distinguishing characters.
Great beer list though!

Not the cheapest Indian food you can find in Melbourne, but dishes from Bhoj seemed quite authentic and service was friendly. Great waterfront view from Docklands which added to the positive vibe of its pleasant interior decor. I was glad that none of the curries we ordered were overly oily (especially the vegetarian ones!). Highly recommend the yoghurt marinated chicken cooked in tandoori. Overall, quite happy with my visit. Would come back to try the set dinner offers.

Hello Fellow Foodies!
If you read my reviews often, I (and a dear friend) have decided to rate any restaurant, on the basis of Premium or Budget place with 7 parameters for each ... And Bhoj definitely comes across as a Premium place to eat.

I consider the average of the following factors for my final rating (and u can just read these to make your choice):

Quality/Taste of Food -3

Portion size -3

Value for Money- 2

Presentation- 2.5

Décor- 3.5

Service Quality- 1.5

X Factor -2

The food taste is ordinary, my Kheema Naan (Mince Meat stuffed bread) had little Kheema and all Naan with the portions not as decent as I have seen in some other places. The food quality was average too, as the Dal was a bit to runny for my liking and the chicken dish a tad ordinary. The place is expensive (Given the fabulous location) but the presentation of food is as soul less as the service. We had to remind the service staff thrice for water and almost the same amount for Orders and delivery.

The place boasts of decent decor (with an eye sore of a buffet right in the middle of the Dining area) and loads of certificates, perhaps in a distant past, the flavors must have been unique here.

The Fridge restrooms are as pitiful as most other Indian restaurants in the city and the route to them is riddled with an overflowing pantry and a shoddy fridge.

There was little soul in their service, and the staff was subtle in their distinction between races and promptness to serve. A sad end to an otherwise decent Australia day.

Cheers!
Linda
Always consistently great!! Great flavours and generous servings - and staff are always friendly.
Their vindaloo is delicious!! An the garlic naan is crispy and flavoursome !

Service was extremely poor and slow. Found a dead fly on the table cloth. Papadums were stale. Butter chicken curry and other dish were ok but nothing to write home about. Wouldn't come back here again.

First good Indian food I had in Melbourne. Great location great view and verity of dishes. It's already a popular restaurant in Docklands. They have deals that you can take advantage of if you are alone.
Minimum 1 person meal El la carte with drinks 30 aud.

Cheers

Bhoj is a family-run restaurant specializing in authentic Indian cuisine, accompanied by breathtaking views of the harbor in Docklands. The venue looks and feels quite traditional with statues and religious decorations, but maintains a touch of western culture with some of the furnishings and interior design.
Melbourne Culinary
Bhoj is a long standing Indian restaurant with many years of history in Melbourne's Indian restaurant scene behind it. Having started out as a restaurant in Templestowe in Melbourne's east, Bhoj soon moved to the current waterfront location in the Docklands and has been there for 13 years now. While the first thing that people think of when it comes to Indian cuisine is curry, chef and owner Rajesh Mehta has brought out more than that in Bhoj, with Indian street food favourites and other regional dishes.

A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Originally beginning in Templestowe and initially running at both locations, the owners of Indian favourite Bhoj, decided to focus on the Docklands restaurant, which is now 13 years old. Chef-owner Rajesh Mehta is in charge the kitchen of this family-run restaurant. The interior gives the impression of fine dining, but it doesn't feel stuffy, and the large

Bhoj, named after the Indian term for “feast”, has been serving authentic Indian cuisine at Docklands for 12 years, with Chef Rajesh Mehta boasting over 20 years of experience in the industry. . This is my first time experiencing fine dining with Indian cuisine. I cannot handle spicy foods very well but we had Lassi, a yoghurt based drink, to soothe the heat with. The mango flavour had a nice fresh mango taste, whereas the rose had a hint of floral flavour and aroma. Both were quite watery hence the thin straws.
Gastrology
In a class of its own, Bhoj is a stunning Indian restaurant by Chef and owner Rajesh Mehta who has been serving highly acclaimed Indian fare for more than 20 years. Over the years, Bhoj has been the recipient of a myriad of awards and accolades, including many years as the Best Indian Restaurant in Melbourne and a highly coveted Chefs Hat awarded by The Age Good Food Guide.

Overall we had a fantastically filling and varies meal, from uniquely Indian street food, to tandoori meat and traditional mains. The staff were very accommodating and the environment was very well appointed in a relaxed atmosphere that really allowed the food to shine through. The large range of dishes means that there are always new things to try, and all of them are well-made and flavourful.
Would Penguin Eat Again?
We will definitely be back and everyone should, if even just to get another serving of the Gunpowder Chicken.

Loved the food, service and ambience....finally an Indian restaurant that delivers more than the standard fare with taste and elan. Especially recommend their special lamb cutlets....absolute perfection.

Well, to start with...we didn't receive a warm welcome...we were a group of 6 with an advance booking for friday lunch...tables were adjusted when we reached...water glasses were filled for only 2 people...we ordered chicken and paneer tikka, chicken and lamb biryani and some vegetarian food...we had to wait for a good 40 mins before our food arrived...
Vegetarian food was average at best...nothing to talk about...but the Biryanis were a different story altogether...were served with Raita and Dal (seriously...who eats a Biryani with Moong Dal!!!)....Lamb Biryani was ok types...But the chicken Biryani smelled and tasted of fish...when we asked the waiter he just made a face and claimed that its not the case...Ppl dont go wasting your money at this place! Food is over-priced, quantity is very less and quality I have stated above!!!
Vamsi Kiran
After waiting for 40 mins, we got a Stinky biryani, that smells like made of fish oil.
Starters are pretty mild and chicken is half cooked.

Came here for my nephew's birthday. The owner couldn't have been nicer and more accomodating.

The food was great. Especially the Lamb and Prawn Curry.

I can see why it has won a bunch of awards: family run and family friendly with top notch Indian dishes.

The finest place in Melbourne for indian food with the same authentic taste. Although expensive. It is located at a prime destination with a great ambience and customer service! Really love the food, planning to visit again soon!

Indian fine dining doesn't get much better than this! Bhoj at Docklands has it all - good food ambience vibes complemented by equally good decor and service. You might even mistake it for a high-end venue expensive venue! But don't!

Decided to try this restaurant on a friday night ,the place was fully packed but the service was still very prompt and the food was delicious too. have been trying out many indian restaurants in Melbourne and this is one we will be coming back to regularly because of the food ,service and ambience.

Good Indian food with heaps of side and entrĂ©e options. Having a “Whatever it Takes” attitude, the staff do everything to make diners happy and satisfied.

Went for dinner with friend's and family. Was a pleasant experience right from the time we went in.
Wait staff was very prompt in seating us at our desired spot (as we had our 2.5 year old that needed a high chair)
We were served herbal tea with compliments from the restaurant and it was perfect on a freezing winter night!
The owner came to our table and greeted us and made us feel welcome.
We ordered the vegetarian Malai Kofta, Daal Makhani and Kadai Baingan with Lacchha Parathas on suggestion of the owner.
The food was good and we had no complaints.
We also had the Gajar Halva with ice cream which was really nice too.
All in all we had a lovely time and will definitely return to try more dishes from the menu.
Wait staff was very polite and prompt
I would never set foot in this place ever again. Having to ask 10 different people for a glass of wine then have to continue to ask where it was and the waiters not knowing anything snot wines and which is which. Then only have 2 of the 6 red wines that are on the menu. Service was disgusting especially the older lady at the register. Who was so rude and abrupt, could not believe how people get through business when you treat customers so badly.
Would not recommend this to my worst enemy
Joseph M Joy
Worst Indian food I ever had in my life - no joke, true statement.

Tried Tandoori Chicken and Gajar Halwa which are always best desired food by any Indian food lovers - however these guys truly disappointed me. Chicken was not cooked properly and lacked any flavour.

Worst part was the Gajar Halwa - which is one of my favourites. I had two spoons full and only then realised that it was spoiled. I double checked with my wife and she just took the scent and confirmed it is 100% spoiled. We had to throw the whole thing in the rubbish.

Will not recommend this restaurant to any, and I am not sure if I will fall ill this evening due to the Gajar Halwa. :(

Ambience - Good (mostly due to an added advantage of harbour view)
Service - Good
Food - Average

Bhoj is a good attempt to provide Indian cuisine in docklands. It, however, misses on some of the basics. By basics, I mean food. You need to be lucky to get the best out of Bhoj, because some of the dishes are quite good, but some make you regret your choice. I loved the daal tadka and the tea (with milk), but the curries were nothing more than ordinary.
All the fried starters had a lot of oil. In fact, after eating the samosa, I had to change the plate, as it was full of oil!
Kris
The food was average. However, the price tag was not average. It was rather high. The service was not great as well during busy time. Not coming back...

Food: unknown/10
Service: 1/10
One of the worst experiences that I've had at any restaurant. My partner and I went to the restaurant and waited in a queue despite many tables being free. We chose to sit outside and were seated at a dirty table. The wait staff said that they'd come back to clean the table. After 10 minutes, I asked the wait staff to clean the table which that had forgotten to do and some menus so that we could order.

We looked at the menu and tried to get the wait staffs attention but none of them bothered to come outside. 10 minutes passed by and we finally got someone's attention. We ordered our food and the waitress gave us a table number and left. After 10 minutes, she returned and gave us another number and then 5 minutes after, she changed it again.

We received our Mango Lassi and waited for our food to come out. After waiting 30 minutes, staff noticed that we didn't have our cutlery and they brought it to us. We asked him if our food was coming and he said he would check. We were expecting our food to come shortly but our food didn't arrive. After patiently waiting 15 minutes, no one came back so we told the wait staff that we were leaving and ended up getting snags instead.

Incredibly poor service on Australia Day. Under staffed , lost our order, we walked out at 1 hour waiting mark . Obviously not used to high turn over, amateur

Living in Docklands, finding a nice Indian restaurant can be a challenge. Bhoj is in close proximity to our apartment and we have visited the establishment a few times.

The ambience is beautiful and the cutlery and plates have an Indian touch.
The food is of good but not great quality. The fish entrée and chicken main were delectable while the naan was slightly burnt (never a good sign). We happened to go on a quiet day and hence the customer service was over the top, getting our water glasses filled every 5 minutes. Kudos to their attention to detail however!

For anyone looking for a nice Indian meal in Docklands or generally in the Melbourne CBD, Bhoj is a decent option and certainly has a nice view overlooking the harbour.

Had dinner here on a Saturday evening.

Watch out for the small tables that are outside near the pathway. They are unstable and half my martini was lost on the tablecloth.

Terrible customer service. I was promised a replacement drink after it toppled over but this took ages to arrive and only after I reminded one of the staff. It also included a discussion between the wait staff in another language right near our table which was a little awkward.

The food was ok but for the prices charged and lack of customer service, will not be returning. I have had better all rounded experiences at smaller local Indian restaurants.
Bhoj has an ambiance that mirrors Docklands, graceful and bright! The customer service is generally good but can get overwhelming at times. The food was reasonably tasty but the Indian touch was somewhat missing. We had the onion kulcha which was a bit over cooked (burnt, to be honest)! Being a pescatarian, I ordered the seafood dish thinking it would be mouth watering. However it was average. In future I will stick to ordering only the vegetarian dishes at Bhoj.

If I can recommend one dish/drink, it would have to be the mango lassi; hands down, best in the town.

Overall my experience was above average! My next visit: 3-6 months from now!

Such a little gem in Docklands. Great outdoor area for a warm evening. Beautiful flavours and lovely service. We ordered a few dishes between us to be able to try a couple of different things. The classic butter chicken was a favourite! Looking forward to coming back to sample the lunch special banquet!

Bhoj Indian is a great place to go before the footy. It is a great place for a really filling dinner that sits there and reminds you of how good it is. The nan is great and my sister says the butter chicken is really nice.
-Matthews son

Great food wonderful location and very good banquets. Had quick banquet for just $15.00 with red wine n masala papadum and all of these can be described in one word only and that is just wow. Bhoj thanks for affordable quick food. coming soon

Best indian food. Had a wonderful evening with Bhoj authentic crispy entrees and creamy soft chicken curries with layered parathas. Definitely coming back.

Average food and average service. We went there for Mothers Day and we were disappointed, to say the least. The chicken was rubbery, the curry was just a mix of mix of onions and tomato with too much salt. The naans were undercooked with too much flour dusted on. The malai kofta was a tiny bit better.. The food here has been going downhill for the past few years. Tonight's food was the final straw. We are NEVER going there again and all of ya are advised to spend your money elsewhere.

YUMMY. Must visit open restaurant with good food and quality stuff, nice and welcoming gesture, close to city, waterfront, and very reasonable price. Bhoj we are coming back.

Delicious!. This is really good indian fare! Highly recommended for indian food lovers!

Prices are reasonable – mains are around $16 for a vegetable curry, and $20-$22 for other curries. The barramundi is about $27. You can use your Entertainment Book at Bhoj. It is best to book, but they do have a take-away menu. Bhoj are open 7 days a week for lunch (12 – 3) and dinner (5.30 – 10.30). There is also a Bhoj restaurant in Templestowe.

Dined there after a couple of years and food was as good as ever . Service was friendly and efficient. Will make it a point to Go more often.

Always consistent!. Been going here for many years and it's a winner every time! The food is always fresh and consistent and the service is very friendly!

Fantastic!. Been here a few times and at the old sister restaurant in Templestowe and definitely my favorite place for a curry fix! Everything is worth a try from the barbeque meats, curries and breads. There are a heap of original dishes you probably wouldn't find at your local.

Will definitely be back!

Still the best indian!. We dined there last night after a long time, and I still think this place serves the best indian food in Melbourne! Food is fresh, healthy and very tasty! A little bit on the expensive side, but still worth it for the quality food in my opinion.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant dining room was excellent.
Trimac20
Delicious, filling meal. The surroundings were modern with a few traditional touches. The service attentive - sometimes to a fault, like they seemed very eager to hurry you on to the next course and clear your plates. I ordered Paneer Mehti Malai, a paneer cheese curry in various spices with rice and naan. The cheese was hearty, and the spices were very aromatic and fragrant, with the slightly astringent tomato and taramind overtones complimented by cloves and other masala mixes. The mango lassi was nice. The naan was more on the doughy than crispy side (if you prefer that) but was a generous serving and was nice.

Quality and Fancy. This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Melbourne.
Initially went there because it was near my work so it was handy for after work dinner and drinks but I've been back twice since we found it.
I'm usually very cautious when it comes to meat at places like this but I was so impressed with the quality of the chicken and lamb etc and the flavours were amazing!
They also let us eat there quite late one night when I think they were about to close the kitchen so nice service!

Lack of service. Can't make a simple iced coffee even though I can see the coffee machine. But food is nice.

Good Place!. We went for my Husband's B'day for Dinner and really loved the location and views from this restaurant...the food was good and the staff were helpful...Its expensive but worth the location.

I've been there 4 times, food's always been great.

Probably a bit pricey and they get bad reputation because of all the daily deals they run, but again, food's amazing.
True Shalom
Over priced and really bad service.

Bloss. Initially we were told we could not use a voucher on a public holiday except it was a Sunday and the public holiday was not until Monday. Granted though,it was very busy. Ours was not actually a voucher, but a friend had paid the full cost for us to have a 9 course banquet. The menu arrived at our table after half an hour. Our drinks order was taken at the one hour point. Our first course arrived after two hours of waiting! Two of the nine dishes were quite tasty but not real Indian food, but rather Indian food that was catering for the Australian taste. It was generally bland and uninteresting. The service to say the least was very poor. The owner must have picked up on my body language at the three hour point and offered us a free drink which we didn't want and then settled on a free desert. It was only because we had time to spare, were enjoying chatting and had committed ourselves, that we endured the wait. I would not ever return to this restaurant and would highly recommend that if you want good Indian food then search out a small, friendly establishment that is committed to treating their customers to a culinary adventure with the added bonus of feeling welcome and not just another dollar. Overall, ghastly.

Food ok, service is not good. We have been to Bhoj twice now and while the food has been ok the service on both occasions has been awful particularly by one member of staff. The waiter in question could not have been more grumpy, rude and less accommodating. In this day and age, especially in Melbourne where there is so much competition, you can not afford to have bad service. I will definitely not be going back.

Lovely meal. After spending the morning Christmas shopping in the city my husband and I headed down to Docklands for lunch. What a little gem this place is! My entree and my husband's was delicious and likewise our main meals. I adored the eggplant curry! The waiting staff displayed just the right amount of attentiveness and gave us ample time to choose our meals from the extensive menu. Would highly recommend.

Waning star. I've dined here more than a few times and while not the best Indian food I've tasted it's always decent quality and good value. This time I used a coupon deal.
Booked for 5.30pm on Sat, nice window seat and service was very pleasant. Presented with the special one page menu linked with the LivingSocial deal. Judging by the food stains on the menu I had a clearer idea of what to expect. Starters was a chicken tandoori and lamb kebab.....both bright red and grey inside and just simply lacked flavour. Samosa was ok and onion bhagi was good. Pompadoms were not fresh. Mains ,buttered chicken and chicken tikka masala consisted of dry chicken in flavourless yellow sauce and the coriander beef was dried up beef and for the life of me I could not taste or see any coriander. Nann bread was more like roti and rice was bland and dry. Desert was ice cream, mango flavour was quite good.
Left the restaurant very dissapointed, a first for me with Bhoj. Is this a LivingSocial experience with sub standard food reflecting the low price or has Bhoj just gone downhill? Can't say that I won't be back but it will be awhile before I will chance this again.

Any other indian restaurant will be hard impress. My family enjoyed the meals and service. Never knowing what to expect when purchasing a voucher. I can say that if I try another indian restaurant they would find it difficult to live up to my new expectations

Easily my favourite melbourne restaurant. My family and I have been going to Bhoj for about 6 or 7 year and it is a family favourite. The waiters all are lovely and very friendly-they are half of the experience! The food too is unbelievable, no matter what dish you order you can be sure it is delicious. I could go on about how amazing the food and service are, but you have to experience it for yourselves. I could not recommend Bhoj Docklands higher

Went there with a voucher and had a great experience. Have seen some pretty poor reviews of this joint but we had nothing but good things to say about the night. Restaurant was really nice inside and found the waiters to be friendly and the food to be great! Thumbs up ;)

Recently... Went here after a 4 year absence and used a voucher deal
For 4.

Background info is that I am Indian so am more fussy and knowledgable on Indian cuisine than your average punter.
All in all, everything was fine, particularly for the price when using a voucher...the gulab jamun was definetly the highlight. Delicious.

Final footnote...if you experience of Indian food is once a month and you've only tasted 3 chicken ticka masalas in your entire existence - it's best to keep your under qualified (but incredibly egotistical) opinions to yourself.

I've never bothered to write a review on UrbanSpoon before but after witnessing firsthand what some wait staff have to put up with - I was compelled to leave a review of the food and service.

By the way - service staff need a little training in efficiency but overall are friendly.

Ciao.

After reading so many scathing reviews about the food here I felt it only fair to counter with what I found to be a great experience. We came on a Friday night. No vouchers or coupons or anything. Just ordering from the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious. I highly recommend the eggplant dish (can't remember the name unfortunately). Besides me, all other diners in our group were of Indian descent and know good indian food, and they loved the food too! The salt lassi was actually salty for once. The curries all superb. The paratha beautiful and flaky. Chicken tikka moist and delicious. Only down side was some things were a bit pricey. Mains were fine but $9.50 for one samosa was a bit ridiculous. That said I would definitely come back.

Very very disappointed. Booked a window table a week in advance, called "the manager" 20 mins before arrival and had to argue repeatedly to get a window table reserved. "But lots of people will be coming in." Pathetic. Got in, got our table, and the service was dreadful. Unsmiling. Extremely slow. Forgot our wine. Served entrees then forgot our main course. Had to be chased up. Mild lamb dish was replaced with beef vindaloo - presumably they thought we couldn't tell the difference. Food quality in general reasonable but expensive for what it is. We will never go back: shame, because the original Templestowe restaurant was wonderful.

Disgusting!!!. I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago with one of those vouchers. The staff were clueless as to what was going on and worse they had a strong smell of BO.
The service was slow and no one seemed to speak clear english and they were very hard to understand. The food it self was the worst part, it was the most DISGUSTING Indian food I have ever had, and I eat Indian food alot.

The chicken I had was cooked till it was almost black and mega dry. The curry chicken tasted like half raw chicken pieces swimming in orangy/brown water, it was gross!
As for the vegetarian dish it really was uneatable raw lentils again swimming in a bowl of raw spices. If someone was to go there for their first experience of Indian food they would be put off for ever!!

Who the hell gave them awards for excellence and voted them the best indian restaurant twice.

What a waste of time and money. Never again!

Was not happy. We dined here on the 17.8.13 & was not happy, restaurant was dirty as was there bathroom & no toilet paper, food was good apart from one piece of chicken that was still raw but they happily took back and gave us a freshly cooked piece, service was not great .we went with a coupon menu was not clearly explained nor did they tell us what was the balance left on our credit and we did have credit left, but were happy to charge us $2.00 for a container to take our leftovers in,
Would I go back no.

Had a terrible experience at bhoj a few years and decided to give it another shot..! Went with a voucher and was utterly disappointed. Oily and stale entrees, disgusting mains. Only the dessert was edible..! Stay away.. What a disgrace this place has brought to Indian food..! Would never go back and recommend..

Not the best experience. Went there with a voucher for two on a quiet Tuesday night. Had an extra person so were told to order additional $15 to accommodate -which we were happy to do. It seemed that we were seated on tables at one end of the restaurant set aside for people with vouchers- the voucher tables had no table clothes, whilst the other tables that had full paying customers did. Food was okay, but we over ordered. When we asked to take some of the food home it was pointed out to us the meals that were part of the voucher deal couldn't be taken home, but the meals we had bought on the night could be. When I pointed out that would be a waste of food, the waiter had no good explanation...was it because the voucher food was old and the menu food fresher, making it ok to take home?
Nat
Best indian ive had and not an indian lover. We too went with a voucher but against all other reviews we really enjoyed it. We live in the Northern Suburbs and this is far the best and way better than what ive so far tried.

The entrees were not greasy and doey like other samosa's and the papadums were light and crispy.

The beef curry the meat was tender and not fatty pieces. The naan was verty fresh.

The staff were friendly enough.

The only bad thing would be that the lassi's are the same price as alcohol.
Docklands Foodie
Lousy value. Bhoj docklands ... when opened 10 years ago good food, priced right. I went the other night and the servings were tiny, below par quality, and overpriced. The only people who could possibly patronise this place are tourists who don't know any better. I asked them why such small servings and the answer was: "They've always been that size". Well that's just great, isn't it!

We went here on Friday night with a $29 deals voucher for 2 and based on the reviews expected to have a terrible meal. I felt necessary to leave a review because it had to be said that this was one of the best deal vouchers I have purchased. The food we received was not of terrible quality, it wasn't certainly the best either but it was alright. The chicken tikka and the samosa were quite good. The beef mince was not well cooked and was the only dish that I can fault. The curries were delicious and there was so much of it too. The rice and and bread were really delicious and fresh. There were 3 different curries that we were given and we didn't even get through half of it. The one with the potato dumplings was my favourite. The ice cream was also really nice we both chose the mango and it was one of the best mango ice dreams I have had at an Indian restaurant. I would go here again and for $15 pp we really had a feast. And seriously for $29 I don't know what people are expecting. It was really a lovely clean restaurant with great ambience. Highly recommended.

Horrible service and I haven't even been yet!. I have a voucher from ouffer and called today to book, was told there was room, then, very rudely, was told to book via email because I have a voucher (which was fine), then was hung up on. I emailed them to make a booking, and was told they were completely booked out. My mum called them to book a table, without a voucher, for the same date and time, and was told there was room. When asked why they said there wasn't any room, they said they need to save room for walk ins. Why did I buy a voucher if they aren't even going to let me book at their restaurant?

Over priced and over cooked. We had been there recently hoping to have a decent meal. The menu was a total mix of north and South Indian food. Food was either pre cooked and reheated or over cooked.

We ordered lamb which was burnt and fried in oil. In the paneer curry we could still taste raw tomatoes. The tandoori chicken was quite good though.

Service was very slow and many staff didn't have clue about customer service. They just walk past you aimlessly without noticing that you need service.

Definitely not going back.

Not up to the mark.... Heavily priced and not good food. Service was too slow though not many people were there in the restaurant. Food was not fresh and seems to be a lot of frozen food in use.

Dont bother....even with the $29 voucher.
I decided to give Bhoj another chance after 4years. Previous experience there were 6 of us and the waiter did not write down our order but claims he can "remember them" only to bring out 50% of what we did order. Whilst we patiently waited for the remainder another waiter came to us to see if there was a problem, he went back to check our remaining order only for him to tell us we didnt order anything else. Totally crap, did he think we were going to have 2 curries and 2 naan bread between 6 of us?
Anyway, moving on I needed to look for an indian restaurant to cater for our wedding so I came across the $29 voucher which showed a variety of items to try. Giving them another chance I went ahead and made a booking only to confirm the next day when i arrived it was overbooked due to "popularity". So, here I am wanting to give them an opportunity to cater for our wedding of 400 people and we couldnt even sit. I was not planning to wait for 45mins as suggested so i walked away. The service is only as good as the "food". True disappointment

Terrible Indian food- and I'm Indian, I'd know!! Don't come to Bhoj, the food is substandard. Red Pepper or Aangan are what most Indians approve of.
D.T
D.T. Can't believe Bhoj has such a low rating on here.

It's probably one of the best Indian restaurants in Melbourne. Don't understand why people are being so mean.

I agree with how some people say they are quite pricey but the food is definitley worth the money.

We have been there a few times and we enjoyed the food everytime.

And we will definitely go back.
Helen
Good food. Bhoj is good but you guys should try Nice Lunch, Nice Dinner opposite the ATO building below Watergate apartments in the docklands as well. The day lunch and night ala carte is simply superb A1!!Try their briyani and butter chicken.
