Updating my review because I recently visited and the menu changed. For the worse. The beef cheeks I loved were if the menu and it was closer to pub food. Our server was friendly and we had a fun time; I'd return for drinks.
My original review (that no longer applies đ) --- This was my best meal in Melbourne. I'd never had beef cheeks and was a bit leery, and now I'm hooked! It was perfection and the crispy egg was great. We ordered beet and feta croquettes -- not a fan.
My friend had the calamari and loved it.

Came here for lunch and the Parma I ordered was delicious and huge - so big I could only finish half.
Service was friendly and attentive - however, do expect to have to wait a while for food to be done.
Bring back the sticky date pudding that use to be on the menu - it was delicious!

Really good food and service with decor to match. I have been here before but not for a function, the upstairs area was perfect and the staff looked after every request. The finger food was delicious and everyone loved it. I look forward to returning for one of their special meal nights - maybe Parma night.

Dropped in to the Honey Bar and Restaurant mid-week and had a great early afternoon coffee. The place has a nice vibe and the service was good and the staff very friendly. It's an interesting place. Looks like it might have been a pub in an earlier life. They offer a wide range of tap, local, light and international beers, sparkling and champagne, wines, cocktails, mocktails, and non-alcholoic drinks such as soft drink, lemon lime bitters, fruit juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
They also serve hot and cold food, and deserts 7 days a week for lunch and dinner and have daily specials. There's also 3 big screens and the waitress did tell me that it's a popular place during major sports events like the AFL Grand Final.
Upstairs there's a function room with full service restaurant/kitchen, a bar and dance floor. It offers city views and a balcony. Great for birthday parties and special celebrations such as engagements and weddings as well as corporate/business functions.
The seating outside on the footpath is a great option on a nice day.

Walked here after the 10km ms fun walk.. So by this point we were very hungry. We ordered only two dishes which was probably a good thing given probably the wait was about 30 + minutes and the place wasn't even busy. The staff did apologise after a long time as they noticed and did offer us a free drink. When the food did come out, both dishes were both lovely. They were tasty and just what we needed to satisfy our stomachs. Although we didn't eat much the flavours were rich and textures were well paired which was enough to keep us content without feeling like we needed to eat more food. Not something I've experienced often. I would come back to this place it's just a shame the wait time is so long taking it down a star. The dishes we ordered were mac and cheese and falafel.
Gen
They used to serve the best sticky date pudding you can find in Melbourne. Now it is Chicken Parma! Definitely visit this place for the massive parma.

My friends and I were looking for somewhere for lunch and came across honeys . They had a great lunch special. I love great food and the burger and chips were amazing. The bun, fresh crispy lettuce, pickle and a juicy hamburger. Just divine, I think it was one of the best hamburgers Iâve had out. My compliments to the chef.
The staff were also friendly and kind.

Had our son's 21st birthday in the function room upstairs on the weekend.
The whole event from the moment we booked the venue till the end of the party went brilliantly without a hitch.
Management & staff were so accommodating and very friendly to deal with and tendered to our needs without any problems.
Function room had a great feel and vibe and the beautiful views of the city made a great backdrop for our photos.
The food was amazing and the bar staff were great in keeping everyone hydrated ;)
Just wanted to say thanks guys for helping make our son's night a huge success and a memory he'll cherish always. Cheers!

Went for a work lunch and the whole team absolutely loved the Honey Bar. I had the cauliflower salad and it was amazing! Will remember to go back when they have the $15 Chicken Parma deal. Food and staff were fantastic

Met a friend afterwork yesterday for a drink at Honey Bar. The bar is very spacious with ample seating, we were there early so it was fairly quiet. <br/><br/>A good range of tap beers, I had the Quiet Deeds pale ale and we shared the calamari which was nice. <br/><br/>All in all a good experience, not sure what the other items on the menu would be like but I would come back for a drink again.
Alijargalb
Had the grilled chicken with black rice and it was really amazing. Was surprised how well the chicken breast was cooked, just perfect and love the quinoa with the black rice and the dressing. The black rice and quinoa was served warm with a nice amount of avocado mousse and sweet potato. My colleagues had the chicken parmigiana and it was a veg big portion. Would definitely come back again to try the desserts
Melbourne To Mouth
Stop here a lot for after work drinks and itâs a great spot to hang. They have better than average classic pub food with a couple of twists also.<br/>Bar staff know how to make a mean espresso martini and their happy hours are pretty damn good.<br/>Their upstairs area is great for functions, too.<br/>Definitely a good place to stop if youâre making your way through South Melbs.

Visited this place while visiting Melbourne. My rating is based on my food alone.<br/><br/>Others at the table ordered different dishes and thought they were nice. The pork sliders especially.<br/><br/>My burger was cold, obviously prepared first and left to sit there while the rest of our tables orders were made.<br/><br/>The bun was quite dry, the meat patty was extremely tasteless and dry. The bottom bun was saturated in Dijon mustard (the menu stated mustard but this was extreme) I couldnât eat this burger at all. The chips were the main highlight of this dish. Because I had other plans that evening I couldnât wait around for another one to be made. <br/>

Food average. Service was ok if everything fine, but once you find something not quite right and question (politely) the staff will give you any excuse and blame it to your fault (e.g. food not being serve after an hour ordered)<br/><br/>Lunch time, bar was empty. Food tooks more than an hour to arrive.
Zoe
Food was nice but over rated service was mediocre and environment was nice. Overall found the place to be nothing special but a nice meal out none the less.
An Antelope
There is a nice chilled atmosphere here. The menu looked really interesting, so maybe I didnât order their better items, but the butternut squash salad was ho hum. The butternut was bland and the chickpeas seemed to be from a can. The grilled saganaki was much more enjoyable.

Nice and quiet place in South Melbourne. Friendly staff. Good promotions. We keep visit here because we live pretty close. <br/>Food is very filling, not for the people who are on the diet))

You know how sometimes you stumble across a venue that youâve never noticed before, and wonder how thatâs the case? Well Honey Bar fit that bill for us the first time we found it while looking for a late Friday night drink in South Melbourne.
đ
Saturday 26.08.17 at 7pm. <br/>The staff were very lackadaisical. <br/>We had the pork sliders which were a little plain, a Chicken Parma which hit the mark and for dessert - Banana & peanut butter fondant doughnuts, caramel popcorn, salted caramel, toasted peanut crumble - which were delectable đ

Great food and great service. Really enjoyed the BBQ Brisket and staff went well out of their way to cater to my allergies. Will be returning here.

My fiancé & I had our engagement party upstairs @ Honey Bar & Restaurant and it was just THE BEST night. Rochelle & Jasmin were extremely helpful and very easy to deal with. The venue is so cool and the food is to die for. All our friends and family commented on what a great time they had, and how yummy the food was. The duck pancakes and mini burgers were a major hit. Will definitely have another event here, and will for sure be hitting up the downstairs bar for a cheeky vino this weekend. Love it..!! Keep it up.

Pretty nice place for a relaxing friday night drinks. Not too crowded, easy parking space. Foods are average though.. Good for drinks after dinner somewhere else.

This place is such a great space and really fun to head to. Customer service is second to none in Melbourne!I have been for a friends 21st and also for a casual Sat night and both times left very impressed though nothing on the menu to look at stand out the Saganaki is amazing and the burgers really well put together ( a little less glitzy than these Instagram monster burgers out there but far more practical)i have to stress again though if you want a nice fun night out and Honestly Great service hit this place up!
Emilia
I'm rating this place based on their Parma special on Tuesdays. This is the second time I've been here and both times the Parma was delicious. Make sure you're hungry because the portion size is enormous! It's really good value for money. Staff are always friendly and venue is lovely.
StepiiGM
Nice place, but food was just average. They have diferent promo everyday and tuesday means chicken parma đ. $15 including drinks I think it's a good deal. Chicken was huge in size, can use a bit more sauce, but chips were good! Steak was okay..
Good Food Good Mood
Slick industrial interior and killer cocktails. I've been here a couple of times as it's not too far from my office and also a good spot to watch the footy on the large screen. Someone brought me here for a date once too but I definitely wouldn't recommend that or maybe that's just me. A more upscale contemporary pub that the others you find in the area. I've never eaten here but a colleague of mine ordered the Parma recently and it looked fantastic. Will definitely be trying it next time to soak up the alcohol
Shazzamataz
Great spot for drinks and food that is slightly away frim the main hububb of Sth Melb market. It was very quiet when we went, but still had a goid energy about it. Food from the share menu was good and overall was a pleasant way to spend a summer arvo!
Linda
Went here for lunch and ordered from the entree/share menu. Food is very nice however the taco with quail egg only comes with 1 tiny egg for 3 tacos. Decent food and nice atmosphere

Stopped by Honey Bar for a drink. Top location, wonderful service with a smile...cold drinks. Is there really anymore one can ask for! Would love to return to try their food...looked delicious what was being served to other tables.

Honey Bar is a little notorious in our work eating circle as itâs an seemingly incongruent mix of pub, restaurant, function centre and largely because itâs also a bit further to walk to than the other food options. Iâve often gone for the candied bacon pizza which is a winner, and easy on the pocket, as the menu ebbs and flows into different price territories too. Though if youâre really unlikely you might find a hair like my poor colleague.
Ferolen
Honey Bar - modern industrial cosy bar with great food. I had a quick visit on Saturday 2.30pm. It is cosy and quiet with couple of patrons. Love their industrial setting. We tried their famous sticky date pudding. The rich, soft, and warm sticky date cake is perfectly combined with strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Will come again to try the other exciting menus.
FatGuy In A SkinnyGuy's Body
While the food here at Honey is good enough for a group lunch, by no means was it anything to distinguish it from any other pub in Melbourne. We were a large group from a nearby office, sharing parmas, burgers and risottos. The burgers are better elsewhere I can safety say. Service was mostly good, friendly and accommodating, though I must admit the manager (?) didn't make us feel welcome, and the slightest menu deviation or request was met with a look as much to say "Do I HAVE to, really? I can't be bothered, please hurry up and leave"
Debby Jane
Very poor experience. Four of us called in for Sunday lunch and drinks. We ordered lattes and hot chocolate and one cider. The coffee was cold. I asked for a hot coffee and was given a cup of instant coffee instead. My friend decided to leave hers as it was not drinkable. I was given a hot chocolate that to be honest was like watered down water. The food was bland and to be honest not worth the prices that they are charging. Â I ordered the Paprika rubbed chicken. I am not sure which part of the chicken had been rubbed with paprika but it certainly wasn't the part that I was served. My friend left her dips as they were tasteless. Â To be fair the bar person reimbursed us $7 for the two undrinkable coffees. We had not asked for a refund. We just decided that we would not return in the future. The setting is trendy but was completely spoiled by a large group gathering who had children. A trendy bar is not a place for bored young children on a Sunday afternoon. At times it felt like we were in a kids play center !! Great for parents that want a drink on a Sunday afternoon. Not so great for people who are trying to talk and eat whilst bored unattended children run around screaming. I would recommend that you give this place a miss.
Penguineats
The schnitzel was of a decent size and thickness. The crumb was crunchy. However, all the goodness of the parma ends here. <br/>The riosotto was extremely bland. Yes it was vegeterian, but it felt like there werenât much ingredients in the stock that cooked the risotto. While the rice itself was cooked well, the whole dish was overall too watery and lacks flavour. Also note, the lack of ingredients in the dishâŠ

Had a quick lunch & drink before heading to a wedding nearby. Great place. Calamari salad was perfect, he was happy with his burger. Could have easily settled in for an afternoon.
The Broneills
We had a get together with a group of 20 who had come from all over for the night. I emailed the team at Honey Bar (Steve & Richelle) and they were absolutely fantastic. They gave us a small area for ourselves in the bar and were so helpful in getting back to us with quick responses and sorting things out for us.<br/>The food and drinks selection are great and very well priced.<br/>The venue was really busy and a few different casual functions going on and the atmosphere was great and it turned out to be a great night.<br/>Thanks Guys đ
John Isaac
It's in a convenient location for Nancy and I and a perfect destination for a late weekend lunch. <br/><br/>Beef burger and sharing plates are usually the go here. We've also tried the roast beetroot salad which wasn't bad either. If you're in the area it's worth stopping by but it's more of a watering hole than eatery to be honest.
Ching
Pros<br/>- good atmosphere <br/>- good service <br/><br/>Cons<br/>- we ordered:<br/> 1. Dips - this was nice <br/> 2. Duck risotto - this was so watery and not very flavourful <br/> 3. Veal schnitzel - the chips, the schnitzel and the salad were all too oily<br/><br/>Conclusion: would be a cool place to go for drinks, but wouldn't recommend for food
Harley Taylor
Cool place, Staff are super friendly and accommodating. Food is really good (chicken breast is the best) as is the drinks list plus the guys are happy to do cocktails tht aren't on their list.<br/>All in all great local with a cool busy vibe on the weekends.
Julia Ye
Very nice little place in South Melbourne . Went there according to zomato review and not disappointed . <br/><br/>It's Thursday and all the cocktails are 10 dollars between 6pm-10pm , bonus ;). Very nice cocktails as well. <br/><br/>Even though it's a bar, they make brilliant food too! Nothing to complain. Except you might have to tell the manager that you and your friends would like to order food first and pay the bill later . The manager is very helpful. <br/><br/>Will come back on another Thursday night :)

We recently celebrated our engagement party at Honey Bar, the party was just what we wanted. The venue was the perfect size for our 60 guests. Food was great, atmosphere was great the balcony was a fantastic addition too. Loved seeing the city skyline at night. Big shout out to all of the staff in particular Rochelle & Phil who were so accommodating and lovely to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Honey Bar for a function or even just dinner & drinks in the bar.
Corey Wilson
Booked a table for 10 following a work function at the races looking for some relaxed dining. Â Discussed a couple of options with the shift manager and her staff, offering us table service to make things easier than the standard order from the bar. Â The food came out promptly and we were ably looked after by a confident, well mentored young man. (Thanks mate!)<br/><br/>The confit duck was a stand out among the group and one even complained there was "too much" on his place from the chicken breast he ordered. Â My clients have told me they'll be back next time they're in Melbourne.<br/><br/>Such a smooth, relaxed, and delicious experience to cap off a fantastic day at the races. Â Honey, we're home.

Had a work function here upstairs and for entree we ordered the chicken65, salt and pepper calamari and housemade dips and grilled Turkish bread for all to share. For main I ordered the slow roasted pork belly which was 9/10..........other colleagues also said their meals were of a high standard. Highly recommend this venue.

Perfect dinner with my loved ones on a Sunday night. A good choice of beers for all after a long day. All the food looked amazing; between us all we had a pizza, soup of the day, meat balls (with a great jalapeño kick), burger, beetroot salad and the salt and pepper calamari. All very good food and lovely helpful service. The music was a little to loud for a comfortable level of chatting, but otherwise it's a great place.
MM
Honey, you're home.... For ages I thought Honey was just a bar.<br/>But I was wrong, Honey is more than that - their food is top notch, their function space is incredibly smart and coupled with a crazy Bose sound system. <br/><br/>The best part? The team behind the bar quickly become your mates, there's a reason why their tee-shirts say "Honey, I'm home".
String Of Events
So lately my life has been pretty much consumed by work, which is fine for me, but not particularly fine for my blog. I'm currently working 2 jobs, which take up about 6 days a week, so having a life outside of that is a bit difficult. However after work the other night, my friend and I decided to give Honey Bar's $12 Parma Tuesdays a go. Let's just say there's 0 regrets here. Honey Bar is located on Clarendon St in South Melbourne and serves delicious glorified pub grub, which is easily one of my favourite types of food because you general know exactly what to expect. We were both super impressed with this parma though. The chips were all sorts of amazing too! And of course you can't have dinner without dessert, so we decided to split a Sticky Date Pudding afterwards, which was only $10. Pretty good deal in my books. I'm going to try and find something to blog about this weekend because I think I have Saturday off. I'm also going to Sydney in about 2 weeks so I'm going to try and get
Dan From Melbourne
It has a very modern feel to it, but is extremely comfortable and welcoming during a Melbourne winter. I ordered the chicken parmigiana, and was almost physically intimadated by its size. It might be hard to tell from the photo, but that piece of meat was almost the size of my head. Because it was so big the chicken in the middle was a little dry, but the chips and salad on the side more than made up for it. It is a big venue, and they make good use of the space. There's plenty of seating without feeling crowded for room. After a few dinners feeling like someone's elbow was in my thigh, it made for a great change. You can find their website here . For future posts follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr!

The pubâs aesthetic is instantly impressive. Polished concrete floors, clean lines and funky decor. I wouldnât call it a âcosyâ pub, as the entire interior is basically exposed grey concrete,
Katherine Chiu
The menu has limited vegetarian and gluten free options. They don't have much food but they mainly focus on drinking. The guy at the bar was really friendly. He let me take my time to decide. The service was prompt and friendly. I had the Moroccan tagine (vegetarian, see the Cultural note below. It was $16). It came with yoghurt and cous cous (see the cultural note). When it came to the table it looked very attractive and filling. It actually was filling. But it was just a touch bland. And there were little crunchy bits of garlic in there which I would not have minded if I wasn't going to work the next
Dom
Great venue and food!. Love this place. Cool staff, punchy atmosphere and the most down to earth bar in South Melbourne. Chicken Parma!!!
Elias
Never busy & I'm always bored by this place, wishing I wasn't.

Visited The Honey Bar Restaurant for the first time last week. Had a great evening. A group of 10 of us shared a variety of entrees. Saganakj, dips, asparagus spears to name a few. Just lovely. I had the mushroom lasagna which was excellent. Very filling. I still managed to squeeze in the Sticky Date pudding which was big enough for 2.
Rob
I really wanted to like this place. I really did. It's just round the corner and would make a cool local. The best I can say after wrestling with my tough flavourless pork belly is that I suspect no-one comes here for the food. Best part of the meal was the shoestring fries. Good to know somebody knows how to operate the deep fat drier.
J
A large sized bar and pub on Clarendon St that has yummy pub fare. The drinks menu is stock standard but I like that the bar is big enough so you don't feel like a sardine on a Saturday night. There's also a function room upstairs and accomodating staff.

Honey -Sweet!!. The venue has an initial cold feel as you walk in but that feeling disappears when you're greeted by the staff. The food here is tasty and well priced. A little gem in south melb.
Judy
Yummo. Went there for dinner tonight with an interstate guest. We ordered the trio of mushrooms, saganaki and pork meatballs to share. Mains included the scallop and prawn spaghetti, risotto and lamb salad. Enjoyed the food, very tasty, reasonable price. The restaurant has a nice relaxed feel, the waiting staff were on the ball and pleasant. First time for us and it won't be the last time. Very good selection of meals from the parma to the confit of duck. Didn't try any cocktails this time round but I think they are also something on my bucket list.
Manmar
Delicious. Liked the look of the place so popped in here for a consolation glass of wine to cheer ourselves up after a horrible lunch at a pub venue across the road. The efficient waiter delivered our drinks, offered us menus, and patiently listened to my rant about the sub standard lunch we had just endured. He then suggested some tapas, after our unsatisfying meal. We ordered saganaki, and pork & jalapeño meatballs. Both were excellent, but the meatballs could behave benefitted from some crusty bread to mop up the remaining sauce. We will definitely be back here to try a whole meal. Good service, great food.

Love Honey! Great fit out w.... Love Honey!<br/>Great fit out with outdoor seating available.<br/>Happy out prices on Friday night $5 and the ribs, wings & rings special is great value and the ribs so juicy.<br/><br/>Decent range of tap beers also.

Sexy staff. Went there on a friday, neutral expectations. I have never been so turned on whilst in the company of friends. The curly-haired bartender (I think he said his name was Murray) was extremely attentive and made us feel important. By the end of it I was wanting to take his order if you know what I mean. Also, I'm a dude. 10/10 would be seduced again. Will definitely return

Awesome location, brilliant food and wonderful owners. <br/><br/>Love the chicken Parma, a favourite and delicious. The pizzas are fantastic and the drinks are always a healthy serving. If you're in the area must drop in. One of the best locals in South Melbourne with modern decor and a cool vibe. <br/><br/>A great spot to spend a lazy afternoon.

Never again !!!!. If you do not have any wish to make people happy, don't work in hospitality !<br/>I went there for a sunday lunch, I wanted to have a chicken parma but I can't have chips so I asked for spaghetti as they have it on the menu. The "waiter" said that it's not possible, we do have spaghetti in the kitchen but to have them you'll have to take the full meal.. so I said I really want to have the chicken parma and that I was really sorry for the "inconvenient" but that I can't have chips. In return, no arrangement but " no sorry we can't " What a bad service !! such a shame ! ( the place was empty ) So I had a lamb pizza, the worst I ever had, the base undercooked and tasted like frozen 4$ pizza, the lamb ground, tasteless, I felt like eating a huge amount of fat and felt bad all the afternoon.<br/>Really bad service, bad food, I absolutely don't recommend this place..

Always good food. I work across the road from Honey and have been visiting for lunch regularly over the last year, as recently as last week. Food is always good, an interesting menu with varying specials regularly. Service always friendly too. Have eaten pizza, pasta, chicken Parma, risotto, salads, various specials and entrees. Always tasty. Reasonably priced. Good vibe & music too. Also good for after work drinks. Recommend.

Where everybody knows your name. It was chance that brought me to HONEY. A friend had suggested we meet there, she was already a local and loyal.<br/>Soon after, I started my own business and said friend connected me with Steve, who kindly donated the space in the restaurant for me to have meetings and work remotely. Anyone who has ever worked freelance knows how isolating it can be, days go by when you don't utter a word or have any interaction. <br/>I became permanent fixture and introduced other friends to it. <br/>I can honestly say that HONEY is my second home, the place I go to when I don't want to go home.<br/>And the reason for that is a combination of the great hospitality skills of Steve and Jas, both work the floor welcoming guests and ensuring everyone is being looked after; their staff building those long term relationships with customers; a comprehensive menu making the most of home made and fresh produce and of course, the atmosphere! <br/>If anyone has ever had a negative experience at HONEY, they probably don't belong at a friendly and hospitable venue. <br/>HONEY is very much a local's bar and restaurant, the more you go, you begin to see the same faces and ultimately, relationships, business opportunities and friendships are born in the corner of Park and Claredon.

Now I see why most people like this place. I was dragged here for after work drinks on Friday against my will because of previous poor experience, and it was great. Cheery, attentive staff, quick service with a smile, a lovely buzz around the place. Even a big function upstairs didn't affect the good service downstairs. Since most reviews of this place are positive I guess it's like this most of the time and I'm glad to now be one of honey bars fans!<br/><br/><br/>-----07 Feb, 2014-----<br/><br/>Really not special. The owner spends a lot of time blogging about how friendly and cool this place is; I think he should spend more time in the bar and less time blogging, because that's simply not my experience. I've been here a few times for drinks and food and found the service poor; disinterested, slow, error-prone. We usually have a couple of drinks and move on, although to be fair when we have eaten here the food has been good. It's not as good as the hype, though.

We booked a team Christmas lunch for 10. Comfortable surrounds, great service, delicious confit duck leg and wild mushroom lasagne. Parmas were over done, but we will try them again before writing them off completely. Overall: pretty good.
Nina
Honey bar is trendy and tasteful. The bar staff are friendly and our meals came out not too long after ordering. Parmas were good but not amazing. Would return on a tuesday when they're $12 :)

Excellent for a group!. Honey happily accomodated our group of 15 girls for a drink and a dance post hens night activities. No cold shoulders that a group like this would usually expect. Exceptionally friendly staff, exceptional security. The DJ happily took our requests and played right through til close. All of us agree we will be back for a drink and to check out the food another time. Thank you.

Great bar. Been twice...food hit & miss, but cocktails are awesome! First time - delicious meals in our group, all served promptly especially for a busy Saturday night. Second time - food still ok, some of us had great meals, others had to send food back cause it was cold, unfortunate but it was dealt with really well which always makes it better :-)<br/><br/>Love this place as a bar...great bevvies, and cheeky bar snacks, perhaps not always the greatest for a proper meal though (although we could have just been unluckly). Great staff too!

Sensational Service. I just wanted to say a big thank-you to all at honey bar for being a part of making my sister Amber's hens night fantastic!<br/><br/>We really appreciated the roped off section, the attentive and charismatic service of our bar tender, the food - it was exactly what we needed and the DJ played an absolutely awesome set!<br/><br/>You all have demonstrated hospitality at its finest.<br/><br/>I really can't thank Honey Bar enough!<br/><br/>Lauren

Possibly the best place for a group dinner in South Melb. Honey Bar is my favourite bar in my hometown. It's trendy with good vibes and food. Not too expensive and a little creative in their menu of traditional pub meals. Book ahead and bring your friends!
Liz
Great experience. Needed a good quick meal before a school function that served dinner at 5pm. Found this restaurant on urban spoon and based on reviews, booked it for 6. This was a great choice. The menus was varied, well priced and gluten-free friendly. The service was prompt and friendly and by the time we left (6.15pm), the place was buzzing. Most of us had at least 2 courses. The calamari was light and crispy, the chicken avocado salad delicious, the schnitzel beautifully cooked and the fish and chips delicious. Will definitely go again. Thanks for a lovely meal :)

Hits the spot. You might go to Honey Bar for the cool urban grooviness but then the food arrives and you realise you're in for an even bigger treat! Clever, delightful, superbly tasty dishes! The chickpea/cauliflower florets became my favourite. I\ travel across town for the pizza which is made completely in house. Fancy some pasta, chicken, big salads or traditional burgers. you'll never ever complain about the food at Honey.<br/>(ps - I've attended a number of functions upstairs and the food steals the show.. and is abundant too)

Excellent all-rounder!. I found this place to be a very modern space that gives off a nice warm ambiance. It was great for the cold winter day we arrived in. <br/>The food and drinks were priced perfectly. <br/>The veal schnitzel was superbly cooked and just melted in my mouth. My new favourite dish now!<br/>The staff looked after us and were extremely friendly. Worth a visit if you are in or near Sth Melbourne..

Come for the Pork Belly. The atmosphere gives the impression of a cheap local pub, but the food is top restaurant quality. The food quality and decor do not match, but I can overlook the atmosphere for that Pork Belly. Good God, it was possibly the best I've ever had. The calamari was possibly one of my best meals too. A well needed renovation would have me back monthly.

May have just gone in on a bad day, but staff seem rude or inconvenienced by customers, food is pretty disappointing for the price and such slow service.. I

Top food. It's pretty hard to amaze with a pub burger, but these guys managed! Yum! Great atmosphere, friendly & helpful staff.<br/>*Update: have since tried a number of other menu items. Chicken main is delicious. Lamb salad amazing. Pizzas aren't bad but I'd go for one of the other great options.

What a gem. Caters for all - the oldies and families and kids and then later the movers and groovers move in.<br/><br/>Food is great, service is good and the cocktail list is to die for.

Excellent!. I recently held a surprise party for my wife there upstairs in the private room for 40 adults and 25 kids. It was awesome. Jasmin and the crew really looked after us. They let me bring in some stuff earlier for preparations (kids games, music list), they looked after our dietary requirements (the food was yum - particularly the little vegie samosas) and service was great. The staff made it a hiccup-less event. Highly recommended!

Ordinary pub food. Nothing to write home about, there are plenty of better pubs with good food nearby.

Gluten Free Pub Grub. What a delight. Gluten free casual dining. This is a great place when you can't be bothered cooking but don't want to break the budget. They have just changed the menu. I had the calamari as a main and my husband had the chicken breast. We were both delighted and fully satisfied. We dined on Friday night and hit happy hour (5-7). Whilst as bit noisy and lots of atmosphere, the drinks were only $5 each. We will be back!

Hard not to enjoy yourself at the best bar in South Melbourne!

Enjoyed dinner here my husband on a quiet Sunday evening. Meals were well sized for a good price and most importantly gluten-free was marked on the menu with multiple choices for me to eat.

Best local in town!!. This is my local and one of my favourite places to eat and drink in Melbourne. The selection of wines are excellent and the pours very generous, the beer is always perfectly chilled, and from the delicious pizzas to the tasty chicken parma to the jaw-locking burger portions the food is superb. It's the ideal venue for a few cosy reds in winter or a chilled out Sunday afternoon session in summer. All in all a great little pub and the perfect local!!

Very disappointing. Myself and a few colleagues had lunch at Honey last Friday. It was very disappointing - both the food and the service were average. Ordered the trio of lamb and told the waitress it had to be gluten free. Sure enough, the lamb came out with a salad with bread through it. Asked the waitress to replace with gluten free salad - everyone else received their meals and I had to wait another 10 minutes for the lamb to come back out. It certainly wasn't a trio of lamb - the salad, which was meant to include lamb, came out with a tiny piece of lamb in it, the eye fillet was tiny (two mouthfuls) and dry/overcooked, as were the cutlets. Waitress was snappy and quick to blame someone else and never came back to answer my question about the meal. Ordered a coffee later from the 3rd waitress of the day and she was very rude and catty. Overall, service was terrible, the girls didnt want to be there, and the meal was not worth it, could have cooked better lamb at home.

Great Bite. Had a lovely little quiet lunch at Honey. Great wood-fired pizza and a traditional parmie for my friend. Good value, friendly staff and a relaxed environment. Great for a Friday work lunch or a few beverages

Little Things, Big Difference. If you judge a venue on the little things then Honey is a winner. Warm greeting as we walked in. Great meal (mine stuffed chicken, hers a tagine) served without delay. The key ingredient? A great looking space with no attitude. I wish this place was in the city. Then again it is only a short tram ride away.

Sweet like Honey!. I love this place! <br/><br/>I never used to venture out in South Melbourne much until I came across Honey. All the other bars in South Melbourne are either the perfect stereotypes for bogans and bar brawls, or that they don't give a damn about their customers through horrible service and even worse food.<br/><br/>I go to Honey a fair bit now and its great either on a busy and pumping Friday night, mid week for a quick catch up (where you can actually have a conversation!) or during their chill out Sundays.<br/><br/>So you may ask, what do I like so much about Honey? Everything! The interior, the drinks selection, menu and service are all great. <br/><br/><br/>Finally, a place that has a bit of class and is modern in South Melbourne - this place is truly a god send. If you haven't been there before, do yourself a favour and do it!

So the ladies and I came here the other night and as I walked in it was alil on the quiet side but staff made us feel welcome.. It was just after the kitchen closed and I was so hungry as.. it was only me eating in the group so i thought i had no chance.. So i asked at the bar and the young lady ran up the stairs and within seconds she came down and said it will be fine.. I had the Barramundi it was delicious.. Overall the service was great and the food was delish! Awesome place for us ladies to have a cocktail or two And gossip. Love what they've done with the place. Thanks Honey!

Not good at all. The place has a really weird sparse ambience, and the vibe we got from the time we walked in was uneasy. Service was unenthusiastic. Food was poor, although inexpensive at least.

Terrible. Worst meal i've ever paid for. shocking salad consisting of rocket, tasteless tomato, cucumber and onion. don't eat here if you are a vegetarian.

Really lovely meal and was busy enough for a Wednesday night. The food was prompt and the service was good. We tried the different spin on Sagnaki first which was OK but had cooled too much by the time it came to our table. The duck risotto and stuffed chicken breast were both good picks. Not too many table options and the lighting was like twilight and a bit hard on the eyes but otherwise a pleasant night.

Honey bar. Nice place, i always see this place packed on friday nights and though i'd wonder in. very nice inside and good place for friday night drinks. food is average pub food but to be honest you probably wouldn't be going to this place for a feed.

Honey, I'm home!. Delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly staff... what's not to love??<br/>With so many venues competing for attention in South Melbourne, you could be forgiven for missing Honey... but trust me, once you've visited you'll never stray again.<br/><br/>Great Tuesday specials, regular events such as Trivia Nights, Spring Racing Parties, and the recent (sold out) AFL Grand Final Party, and a perfect function space upstairs.<br/><br/>I love this place, and I guarantee you will too!<br/><br/>TIP: Make sure you try their delicious (and enormous) chicken parma!

HoneyBar. I recently came in for a meal and was really surprised by the quality. First of all, it quite busy, and the staff behind the bar were excellent, very friendly and made you feel at home. They were knowledgable and made great recommendations with cocktails and their wine list. They have a great menu, dishes to suit all types. The entree Saganaki was great, and the mains we ordered, linguini and rack of lamb were superb<br/><br/>I can't recommend the Honey bar highly enough. Its certainly the best establishment in South Melbourne by a considerable margin. If you're in the area its well worth the visit.

Hey Honey :). Having walked past the venue to work 100 times I'm not sure now why I never stopped in. In regrets now. Had such a good experience there last week. Great food, great service. Felt a bit like an old school local after talking to the husband and wife behind the bar. Probably mooched a little too much on the free wifi :) I will be having all "business meetings" here from now on.

Two strikes. I have been to the Honey Bar twice now and have left disappointed. It's seems to be a hyped up indie hangout with service and food which is just unacceptable. pizza was cold, lamb cutlets were the size of 50c coins and the steak was luke warm then served with some mash setup which was lumpy and must have been made by a child. So many better places around South melbourne than this, don't waste your money here!
Hungry Hippo
DELICIOUS. Had a sunny Sunday lunch here last year and loved it. Dips and saganaki were favourite dishes, staff were great, very friendly and attentive!

Couldn't vote Like/don't like cause of our mixed feelings/dining experience at Honey. Went for lunch with friends Sunday at 12:30. We ordered at the bar, our friends mains arrived after a reasonable amount of time,we waited patiently for a bit longer but our order didn't come, at this point we realized our order had been forgotten or lost somehow(this was a bit perplexing seen as the bar/dining area was basically empty)after another 20 odd minutes our chicken parmas arrived. They were very nice, generous serve, great chips, delicious side salad and the chicken Parma itself was very nice. So we felt that while the food was very good, the service needs attention. It's a pretty big error when a group of 3 couples who order meals individually at the bar( as requested ) then only 4 meals get delivered and the girl who took the orders doesn't seem to notice. Understand I know these things happen but it was a bit disappointing.

Friendly, helpful staff. A casual question of who was playing on the stereo system got me a blank look and "don't know really", followed 5 min later with a piece of paper brought to my table with the band, song and album written on it. <br/><br/>Nice stuff.

Honey I'm Home!. Great food, great staff; feels like my home away from home. Excellent value for what you get as well, I would recommend it to anyone with taste buds.

Welcome to the suburb :). Great first impression! No attitude, good food and most importantly we didn't get the usual "sorry we're closing" when we overstayed our welcome late into the night :)

I was disappointed coming here after reading the reviews. We went on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't much atmosphere, felt like a big empty space. Our starters of bread and dips came after our mains. I had some pizza which was ok, my friend had the seafood pasta which he really enjoyed and the cauliflower fritters we had were awful. It was quite inconsistent and service was average.

My fav local. Very generous servings with the food which is great bar food... Parma is excellent. Reasonable prices and very friendly staff. love it!

A great late lunch. Brilliant food, especially the small/share plates. Full of flavor, generous serve, at a reasonable price. Goes down well with a Cocktail jug on Sunday afternoon.
