We've never had a bad experience at Kati Thai so we keep coming back. The lovely chef owner clearly cares about her patrons and frequently comes over for a chat. This time we had red duck curry and stir fried beef with basil. So happy this local gem survived all the lockdowns!

For many years I have had food to go and dined in ( prior to C19) with friends and family -always enjoyed. Once and only once there was a late delivery due to some yearly event on the calendar which I can't recall. Just last night for the first time I used their online menu and ordering service - so easy to navigate place an order and book a time to deliver. I cannot complain about their delicious authentic Thai food. Thank you for coming to the Village.

The best thai food in Melbourne!!!
I love the spicy thai fried rice, and the chicken wrapped in pandan leaves.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

I have bought food from here many times both dining in and take-out, and never have I had a bad meal. The food is always of high quality - from the curries to the noodles and mains I have thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Their consistency is important because there about 4 other Thai eateries within a 2km radius, I really don't need to go anywhere else.

Vegan green curry and cashew stir was very clean and flavourful. Would definitely go back the lady who owned the restaurant was so good very courteous.

Placed order and was confirmed at 5:46pm for a 7:15 delivery as a Mother’s Day dinner ($85). After not hearing anything by 7:40 we contacted the restaurant to hear it would be 20 minutes away. That was acceptable being a busy night for delivery. 30 minutes went past. Still no order. Rang again to be told it would be another 10 minutes. 8:34pm the meals arrived luke warm. We then rang to put in a formal complaint to be argued with about how busy they were and they would be blocking us from making an order again. Disgusting customer service. "

Great place for Thai food. Customer service is excellent. Lady owner is also the chef, so she cooks with passion. She use her own garden chillies, which are naturally hot if you want some kick.

Volcano seafood stir fry served to your table sizzling with flames!! Set the room on fire... this dish was a show stopper and can't wait to return at this restaurant to have it again!!
The flavours and presentation of this dish were just impeccable... amazing and delcilous!
Entree we chose was equally impressive, full of flavour and nicely presented...
Mixed entree was delicious, soup with rice vermiccelli and chicken, whilst simple and flavours not overpowering it was still so enjoyable to eat
Small cozy clean restaurant with a subtle touch of thailand decor...large food selection on their menu and very well priced...service was very prompt and staff were very attentive and friendly....
Can't wait to dine at this restaurant again

This is our favorite Thai restaurant.
It never disappoints .
Always consistent wonderful flavours. Our kids love the Pad Thai, spring rolls and the roti bread with peanut satay sauce really really good. My wife loves the spicy seafood fried rice. And I love all the curries but my favorite is the pudd susa.
Absolutely Awsome.

I ordered through Menulog on 3rd September, and in the notes to the restaurant specified 'No Peanuts'. For some bizarre reason, they included peanut sauce in my order, the sauce was a dark colour that looked like a curry sauce, I had no idea what it was, plus as I had specified no peanuts, assumed it was a sauce that did NOT contain peanuts. I had a very bad allergic reaction and rang the restaurant to advise of what had occurred. The lady I spoke with did not care at all, her responses were 'oh well, it has happend now, what do you want me to do'? I could not believe her responses to me, it is so lucky I had my Epipen with me as allergies can be life threatening, yet she did not even apologise or show any concern what so ever. This is disgusting, restaurants run by such management should not exist. My response to her was in the future if a customer specifies something like that, be careful as the next person may not be as lucky. I have contacted Booroondara City Council to make a formal complaint, shame on your Kati Thai.

First time that I ordered Thai Cuisines delivery from Kati Thai Restaurant. Quick delivery and good authentic Thai Food. Yet Pad Thai is a little bit sweet .

Thanks

Suzy

Okay food (but just okay) but staff are incompetent....managed to mess up a takeaway order although it was made in person while reviewing the menu with a staff member. Won’t bother going back as not worth the hassle.

Met a group of friends here for a catch up. Found it a bit cramped initially. We ordered roti bread, money bags, a pork skewer special, seafood salad and a green curry. All very fresh but nothing remarkable and smallish servings. It is BYO with a corkage charge

Tried this place tonight. Being a Sat night we expected a slightly longer wait but it arrived before we expected it. Massaman curry was amazing and our other chicken curry dish was so flavoursome. Ingredients were extremely fresh with all dishes. Very impressive and will be back to try more dishes.

Delicious food! I love their Pad Thai and Curry Puff! 🙂 very friendly and accommodating staff! The restaurant has a very relaxing and fone-dining dinner feel 🙂

The restaurant has a good environment, but the food is so so. I ordered the satay chicken and Pad Thai. The satay chicken is very tough, no chicken taste. The pad Thai is standard.

The family decided on this restaurant for a casual family dinner one fine Sunday. Pleasant decor with suitably-themed wall hangings and music softly playing in the background.
Surprisingly there were no Thai-style drinks on offer, just a couple of juices and soft drinks which we found disappointing. We went for a variety of dishes - the papaya salad with soft shell crab, roast duck in a red curry, fried rice, volcano seafood and sweet and sour rockling. Having had som tum on previous visits to Thailand, I found Kati's offering pretty satisfying, if slightly too sweet. The soft shell crab was crispy and not too oily. The curry was a bit one-dimensional in taste, but the ingredients were fresh and the duck succulent and held its own against the slight sweetness brought by the lychee. The fried rice was a favorite with everyone, with good reason - the prawns were fresh, large and generous in number, and each grain of rice had a satisfying bite. The volcano seafood was a bit of a miss; whilst it brought some flaming theatricality to the table the sauce was watery and lacked punch. The last dish to arrive was the fried rockling. It was a hit! The filets were crispy and golden, a delicious combination with the strong flavours of the sauce.
Overall there were some dishes we preferred more than others. It's clear that Kati Thai uses very fresh ingredients but there was a lack of spice in most of our dishes which would have elevated them to another level. Another thing to keep in mind is that the curries come in rather small portions - ours came in a bowl that was perhaps enough for two to share, or for one hungry person.

Incredibly salty (and I love salt) - could not finish our meals which was a shame because I think they had potential. Went home and drunk lots of water.

I was hoping this was our new local Thai but sadly not.
Take away!! Money bags, curry puffs, pork panang curry, a beef masamum curry, chicken satay and coconut rice!!! We picked up but only noticed at home that a dish was missing. In all fairness, we didn't pay for it as it didn't go through so all good. Good Thai food however some more meat would be nice.

17/03/2016
Another great dinner.
Grilled Pork, a bit tough and salty, fantastic sauce/dressing.
Green Chicken Curry; okay
Thai Beef Fried Rice; okay
Pad Thai; smaller portion but easily one of the best in Melbourne.
Massaman Beef Curry; would be hard to beat.
Pla Sam Rod; spot on
Great service!

Another great suburbia Thai restaurant ....

Okay, this strip of North Balwyn Village is an old institution of Milk Bar, Chicken Bar, old Patisserie, etc. has now evolved into a bigger and better foodie centre.

Kati Thai is a great addition to the Village. Authentic home-style Thai cuisine.

Pleasant service and enjoyable place for lunch & dinner.

On recommendation from friends we visited this little restaurant last night.
Staff were delightful, food was fresh and served very quickly ….
BYO - worth a visit!

Consistently good food. Friendly staff and nice and clean sit down restaurant space.
Last meal ordered was the Massaman curry and it was perfect. Great Thai local.
Chape_au
Good solid thai with some depth of flavour. Have been here on a few occasions and also had takeaway. very consistent above average quality thai food. one of the best in this area. I notice some of the reviews mentioned the food is a bit sweet and that is probably a fair comment but I think there is also a depth of flavour and spices that others lack. Recommended, especially in North Balwyn.
Delightfullytasty
The massaman curry was also cooked in coconut milk, but consisted of potatoes, onion and roasted peanuts. There was a slight sweetness to this curry which made it surprisingly enjoyable, and as we had chosen it to be mild, was only slightly spicy to eat. There was a good mixture of textures in the dish, from the crunch of onions and cashew nuts to the softer potatoes, together with the slightly chewy chicken slices and fibrous yet soft and juice pineapple pieces. Pineapple isn't something I'm used to seeing in massaman curries, so we were a bit surprised when we saw it in the dish (and actually thought it was potato at first!).

GREAT thai for Vegetarians. GREAT Thai options for vegeratians. the Chef will make a special dishes to your preferences! Chillis are spicy. Had the Tom Yum Soup, Tofu Salad and Pad Thai! Will definately visit again

Fo shizzle ma nizzle. Me and ma hommies ate dis stuff and it was legit the best thai ive had in melbourne. Going there right now!

Not a fan. I don't know whether they dumbed it down for our group, but the only semi authentic dish was the Tom yum. Yes, it was sweet (per other "complaints"), but for those who have visited northern Thailand, this is common. Nothing else had any heat. Sorry, but a green curry is supposed to be made from green chillis. The stir fries were sweet, with no other obvious flavours - herbs, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, kaffir, anything! They could have even done a semi authentic dessert, but no. Tinned lychee with ice cream and strawberry topping. Might as well call yourself "Asian inspired", as it isn't real thai that they offer for a banquet. One would think a banquet would offer some hints at what is possible, like a laarb (without the chilli even!). Luckily I had good company to have a nice night.

Love It !!. Great Thai food, friendly staff in a nice environment. Especially love the Penang curry made with a bit of extra chilli. Will be returning for sure.

Rude services. After viewed the good review from urbanspoon, I was very ridicously disappointed with the RUDE services after my first tried. The food was way too sweet and not authentic at all! I will not recommend my friends and my family to have dinner at there, for sure!

I eat here every week after tennis. Lovely staff and great food. Good with food allergies too

Great find in Nth Balwyn village. Fantastic fresh food especially the prawns and curries. Very kind and considerate staff. Happy to make favourite dishes to order.

Sugar overload. With such a high rating on urbanspoon, thought we would give this place a try....but were sorely disappointed! Every dish we ordered was overloaded with sugar/glucose syrup.....including the rice! Having lived in Thailand good Thai food is not sweet like this. Even the tom yum was sugary. Also for the price, the portions were small.....and not enough for two. Pricey and was desert rather than dinner.

Great and friendly local Thai. Delicious dishes, welcoming staff and lovely restaurant. Take away or eat in, yum.

Absolutely gorgeous food! After spending almost a year searching for authentic tasting thai food, we finally got it here. The mixed starter was brilliant & the Penang curry divine. Will definitely be coming back for more.

Ordered from this place for the 1st time cos we were feeling lazy&they delivered to us. Was a few minutes late but the wait was forgotten as soon as we started eating. The red curry was full of flavour as were the curry puffs. The lamb massamun is also highly recommended.will definitely be ordering from here again

Kati Thai Loved It. I have also been most recently to Kati Thai. I found the service and friendly staff most enjoyable and the fact that the chef took time out to ask if we needed anything or how the meal was i found pleasurable too. There is a previous post here whom claims that they paid $50 per head?, i think that person must be from another world as the average price for a main is around $25. My guess would be that had appetizers as well as coffee/dessert. Massman curry was also enjoyable, now I'm no expert in flavours but complaints from here!. Would definitely recommend Kati Thai who either enjoys or yet to discover the taste of Thai.

Average. Kati Thai was a nice setting but the food lacked flavour and the servings seemed a little small. Found it to be abit expensive coming out at $50 per head. which seemed alot for the amount of food in each serving. The service was slow but the staff were very friendly. The Massaman curry was nice but was devoid of any full flavour. This venue is ideal for the punter's of Balwyn North who wouldn't appreciate full spices in their food.
Chez
Fantastic Thai Favours. We would recommend the Kati to everyone. The food was excellent, reasonably priced, very friendly service and cosy place. It is a very small restaurant, we went on a Saturday night, it was full, so would recommend you book a table. It's really worth a visit - you won't be disappointed.

Great local Thai. Will definitely be back.
Yungera
Kati Thai does well above average in terms of taste and presentation of traditional Thai food. The venue is pleasantly decorated. The staff are friendly, diligent and helpful. A welcome addition to the North Balwyn area. Highly recommended.
Noam
The first time I went to this restaurant was when it first opened, the food was bland and lacked 'oomph' but the service was fine and so was the atmosphere. However when I (literally forced) to come again we decided to ask them to spice our food up (like you would get it in Thailand. Every dish was amazing, each had a flavour of its own and the chef even took some time to come and talk to the family because we were able to handle spice so well. Overall, if you're looking for a good meal I would recommend this restaurant, but If you require some real spice make sure you specifically ask for it!
