Review Mint-o-mustard - Melbourne

Paul Steele
It’s not often I rate a place this low! - but it was not good!! We arrived to be told they were busy and so we would need to write our order on the provided pad and go up to the register and place the order and pay. They were not busy (maybe 30% full) - the section we were in not another person! (See my photo) The food was not good - the tandoori chicken was dry and lacked flavour! The goat curry had no goat - One piece of meat that was chewy and terrible the other two bits were all bone (see my photo). The flavour of the curry was good! It’s hard to comment on the staff - they did not really interact at all - once they issued instructions on how to order! All in all for two dishes, small rice, roti, and two drinks - $70 (see photo for what we had) - not good value!!!

Restaurant looks clean and big for big gatherings or small. I have been there with my 3 month old baby and few friends. So much space for pram to move around and food is delicious. Little Gem in Docklands, After visiting twice to this place for a good meal and wine, we are going to have couple of birthday parties as well. It has outdoor heated place and in summer or winter glass door in the front can be opened for large gatherings up-to 200 or more.

worst ever experience. we ordered Tandoori Mushrooms and Mint Tandoori Prawns for Entree both tasted as if marinated 5 minutes ago. mushrooms werent tender and marination wasnt inside at all. prawns were like they have put some chutney on top and put it in tandoor in mains we ordered chicken fried rice a d chilli chicken from indo chinese section and Mutton Rajhastani. fried rice looked like biryani no vegetables at all mutton rajhastani meat was raw only good tasting was chilli chicken. prices are too high compared to quantity.

Do yourself a favour. If you like Indian food, make sure to sample a range of delicious curries from this friendly restaurant. We love it so much we go often enough to be considered regulars. The Chicken 65 is spectacular, as is butter chicken and lamb madrass (our faves). Highly recommended.

Very good food and the naan we had was awesome, it wasn't burn, thin crust yet wasn't hard or chewy. They also have Nutella and cheese naan for kids. Awesome water front view. The girl at the front was always smiling even while struggling with her mask.

We love the place and food quality, very private and suitable as function venue. We strongly recommend the entree chicken, very appetising and tender. The curries are creamy and authentic flavoured. We will come back for sure :)

This is one place that I just loved for Indian food. Been there twice and have not been disappointed. Some of the dishes that are a definite try include methi malai chicken, chicken 65, malai kebab. One more thing that I loved here is the laccha paratha made perfectly. Definitely recommend this place for good Indian food.

food festival, unlimited chat- huge disappointment, waste of money, pooris and pavs were all dried and was like eating stale bread :( dabelis and bhajis were all uncooked...why would you have an event like this and when people come in with huge expectations you make them look like fools.. lost our appetite for the whole day...

Will never go to this restaurant again.......

Honestly I love my Indian and have tried it across the country and this was absolutely delicious. Maybe the service is isn’t perfect but it’s more than made up for by beautiful food. I was a little hesitant with the mixed reviews but was glad I gave it a go! Recommend
Classic Indian with a waterfront view - Mint-O-Mustard is a must try!

Set amongst Docklands’ bustling Newquay Promenade, Mint-O-Mustard is a waterfront Indian restaurant serving up authentic, mouth-watering dishes. You’ll find flocks of locals, tourists, corporates and shoppers popping in for a quick bite and coffee, or sitting down for a three-course banquet.

Elegant copper interiors create a relaxed yet sophisticated ambience matching their exceptional wine and craft beer selection, as well as their extensive cocktail list. Aperol spritz anyone? The abundant space and outdoor seating on the water caters for all occasions and large groups, from family dinners to Christmas parties.

The seasonal menu offers authentic Indian food using fresh local produce prepared daily on-site. The sweeping variety of small and large sharing plates accommodates any appetite or craving, and there are plenty of vegetarian dishes too! We loved the spicy tandoori Mushrooms, as well as Mint’s signature dish – the Paneer Lollipops. We recommend choosing a few curries and vegetable dishes to share, contrasting the fiery spice with fresh flavours. The Goan Fish Curry and Malai Kofta are great choices. Add a side of coconut rice and garlic naan, and you’re set for a perfect Indian feast!

Sweet tooths will delight in the dessert menu, which includes a variety of traditional and contemporary dishes. The indulgent Nutella Naan served with vanilla ice-cream and strawberries is the most popular choice and for good reason – it’s delectable!

Mint o Mustard is located along the new quay in beautiful Docklands. It has a great view and an outdoor area.

We were lucky enough to be invited to try their food. For entree, we had the paneer lollipops, the sauce was really nice. For main, we had the butter chicken, prawn malabar, lamb saag, garlic naan and lemon rice. The curries were good, especially the lamb, if you like a bit of spiciness. The naan was delicious, went really well with the curry. The lemon rice added a refreshing touch to our meal, which was great.

Last night we went over to the far side of Docklands to try out the menu at Mint-o-Mustard. This venue is located in one for the more frequented parts of the Dockland Promenade located close to other favourites. The venue itself has seating for over 180ish guests inside and plenty of additional spots on the outside alfresco area but both a window seat inside or outside with get you startling views over the marina.

We started with a round of drinks and I set myself up for success with a super thick and tasty mango lassi. Other chose a pina colada from the ample cocktail list and kingfisher beer because when in Rome...

For our Indian food feast we started with vegetable samosas, as good a place to start as any imo. These homemade spicy delights where steaming hot with a light soft mash and herbs and super crunchy shell. I love a good samosa and these tick all the boxes, a great way to start of the night.

The Mint prawn tandoori we’re marinated with yoghurt mint, and spices cooked in clay oven then tossed in coconut.

Chicken 65, these boneless chicken pieces where on the sweeter side, with great level of heat and an almost caramelised coating. I haven’t eaten chicken like this before but given the medium chilli kick I hope it won’t be the last.

For mains and without any discussion we all happily ordered the butter chicken which was absolutely western styled and absolutely what I wanted with sweetness and delicious tender chicken and plenty of cream.

The Aloo Gobi described as Potato & cauliflower was a brilliant dish, vibrant & delicious, this was one of my favorites, loads of flavour a lovely chilli hit.

Another vegetarian dish was Malai kofta which was Fried cottage cheese and mashed potato dumplings stuffed with nuts and cooked in a mild cashew sauce. There were only three dumplings in this dish and I would have liked to see more but that epic sauce was used by all to dunk naan and coat rice.

Our last main was the Beef madras which was cooked with medium spices including roasted mustard seeds, curry leaf and coconut cream. The great gravy’s with this curry was again perfect for dipping in the garlic & cheesy garlic naans we ordered.

We were done and yet next minute out comes a Nutella naan for sharing. I kid you not one of the best Nutella desserts I’ve had. They have an M&M one as well. Yay!!

We all had a super time at Mint-o-mustard. Thanks to the team for inviting us in.

Delicious food My favourites are fish tikka, kadai paneer, chicken tikka and rotis Biryani items are ok interestingly when I said spicy they added many chilli flakes to biryani :P Ambience is good for parties Can be reached by trams 35,70

Horrible experience here. The waitress didn't know at all about what was on the menu. The food was so spicy it literally burned us. In spite of being Indian and used to spicy food this was beyond us. On top of that their food is pricey. Not at all worth it.

Great place to dine with family or friends. 200 seating area. We went with friends and our newborn baby. So much space for our prams and very clean and good looking restaurant. The food was awesome. Service was good as well.

Authentic Indian food. Mint-o-Mustard serves actual spicy Indian food! They also use whole spices in their curries as well, showing that they are using authentic spices. There are no mild versions of their dishes available. Medium is the least spicy level you can get at Mint-o-Mustard. The vindaloo is amazing! Only criticism is that they use broccoli in their food. Broccoli isn’t normally used in Indian cooking.... plus it’s my least favourite vegetable! Luckily I could give the broccoli to one of my friends!

Also their garlic naan is the second best naan I’ve tried in Melbourne! Finally another place that serves good garlic naan!
Mahyar Hesari
Utterly disgusted!
They brought 2 sets of cutlery for 5 people and when we asked for more we only received 1 more so I had to go to the other tables and bring more myself.
Although I insisted that I want my meal to be “mild” it was unbelievably hot and as spicy and hot as “medium” meals ordered by others on our table.
Took them 45 minutes to bring the food while there were only 4 other customers sitting at the restaurant.
Worst part: when I went to pay I told them the issues and they brought ridiculous unreasonable excuses for everything! Claiming that the food I ordered is naturally hot(although I mentioned that I don’t want something hot she didn’t tell me that this food is always hot!), they said food was brought later because of the entre and even brought excuses for not bringing the cutlery! How horrible can possibly the customer service be to even bring excuses for not bringing a bunch of forks and knives????!!!!!

Have been to so many restaurants never came across something like this.the lady asked if we would like to have fork or spoon to eat... I suppose it’s part of basic necessities in a restaurant. No water bottle or glasses given with food.
Filthy toilet.
Place needs a good vacuum, floor was dirty. Food took a while to be served (half hour) and then was given cold rice. I like garlic but the quantity of garlic smeared on every slice of garlic naan was a joke. Food tasted average and freshness wasn't apparent. Raita was forgettable. Waitress was friendly and accommodating to bring back the cold rice, which came back lukewarm, but I didn't bother changing it again. Won't be going back.

Seriously the worst Indian food I’ve ever had. Please do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. Service was rubbish food was even worse and hygiene questionable
Harshana.vashi
Overpriced, poor service and the curries too sweet!! Indian food is not supposed to be sweet and bland. Also the rotis and naan were not at all
Soft. Totally dissapointed!! Only good thing was the view..

Went there in a Sunday night. The place is huge but was a bit quite that day. As when you visit a place in Docklands you expect some decent crowd. As it was a birthday party, so at first we were a bit upset. We ordered some starters and after getting the food the presentation bought smile to our faces. The tandoori chicken was a served on a sizzler plate and looked stunning. They have a vast menu with a lot of vegetarian options. Everything was perfectly cooked. Specially the fish. The Mains were not as good as starters. Only thing, chicken shahi korma was the show stopper. The place has a good ambience and not too heavy on pocket as well.

The food here is amazing right from the spectacular presentation to the soothing flavors. The best Indian food I have ever tasted in Australia. The ambience is wonderful, a very nice place to go to with your family and friends. Owners are very jolly and welcoming people. Please do visit.. I m sure u will have a great time.

Why not spice up your palate with some delicious Indian cuisine from Mint-O-Mustard. Conveniently located in the Newquay promenade, Mint-O-Mustard serves up a delicious line up of traditional Indian dishes made with fresh local produce, that are full of flavour and served with a smile. Mint-O-Mustard is a very spacious family friendly bar and restaurant, where you can go and enjoy great Indian soul food that caters to any palate, mild, medium or hot. It is loved by locals and tourists alike, which to us speaks volumes.

Something I recently learned is that a lot of Indian restaurants are named after spices, curry or tandoor. Following suit, Mint-O-Mustard is named after two humble yet intensely flavoursome ingredients that are used in many Indian dishes: mint and mustard. Open for less than a year, the first restaurant owned by this husband-and-wife team offers Melbourne traditionally authentic Indian recipes, slightly modified to suit the Australian palate.

I recently held a foodie event here, and boy was the service impeccable! A special thank you to Shweta and team for such a lovely evening.

Mint-O-Mustard is a recent addition to Docklands and brings a modern twist to Indian Cuisine. I loved that we were able to experience such a vast range of Indian food, some that we’d had before (but executed really well) and some that we’d never even heard of. I never knew a curry menu could be so extensive! It was refreshing to skip the typical ‘Butter Chicken’ which is very over-ordered. And what was even more amazing was that each dish was so different yet delicious in its own way!

My favourite of the night would have to be the M&Ms Naan Bread which was such an intelligent, sweet take on the typical Naan Bread you usually get at Indian restaurants.

Definitely worth a visit, and a great addition to the Docklands area!

For a more extensive review- see my blog: wendeats.food.blog/ or visit me on my Instagram page: @wendeats.

Located in the deep Dockland, Mint-O-Mustard is a delightfully cosy addition. I tried a range of entree's, but the highlight was definitely the curries. These curries were really well made and not too spicy (unless you asked for a hit of spice it was all manageable.) The curries we sampled was the butter chicken which was pretty good, a spinach curry which I loved, but my favorite was the Beef Madra Curry that was recommended to us by the waitress. Melted in your mouth and so so tasty. You also can't go past quality Indian Naan. I was very excited to see that there was pizza naan on the menu so naturally had to try it. Flavours of a pizza didn't quote go with Indian food, but that was my poor choosing. Definitely stick with the garlic and cheesy naan and you will leave happy as larry!

Excellent ambience, beautiful decor, great food ! It was our first time and we are going regularly for sure !
Ordered just the mains and we were delighted. Delicious food ✌️
Good luck guys ☺️

We were invited to Mint O Mustard to try a range of Indian food and not just the traditional butter chicken!

We started off the evening with the mango lassi. For entree we enjoyed the
Tandoori Mushrooms, the Shapi Paneer tikka and tandoori chicken which was full of flavour but the suprise for me was the seekh kebab which had a great kick of hot chilli as well.

For mains we ordered the chicken jalfrezi which was great as I can't take too much heat as well as the lamb rogan josh and prawn tikka masala.

As accompaniments, we ordered the saffron rice and coconut rice the flavours were very subtle.

But the highlight for me were the Kashmiri naan and cheese & garlic naan and we could not go past the m&m naan too. These came fresh and piping hot to the table and were delicious.

The night was finished off with the very refreshing mango ice cream.

Our meal here was absolutely amazing. We had a mushroom ball item (can't remember the exact name) as a starter that was sooo delicious! Both our curries were fantastic as well. Only issues were the service was a bit slow and the atmosphere is lacking. BUT on a sunny day, the docklands provide a natural beautiful atmosphere anyway. Great spot for a quiet delicious meal!

Amazing dishes! Kashmir naan , chicken saag (spicy) was superb! Restaurant wasnt crowded when we went there. Location was perfect. Great service. Would definitely come again

A large indian restaurant located along the new quay .managed by a young couple who welcome you with a smile and good hospitality.we were staying in the area and ended up having two meals here .the food is freshly cooked and takes a while to come, but worth the wait.the chicken 65 was delicious and the butter naans served rolled up in a nice way.the various dishes we ordered had distinctive flavours, unlike a lot of indian restaurants which use the same masalas/curries for different dishes

Worst experience of my life. Worst hospitality. Over Salty food. We went there this Friday night. The whole restaurant was without any customer, I guess now I know the reason why. No BYO. V v rude staff specially the lady at the bar. V unprofessional. She was wearing a blue jeans n weird pink top and was the rudest person I ever met in hospitality industry. She was gazing at my friends half of the time we were eating, made us so uncomfortable. In short, they just ruined our night. People if u don't want to spoil your night don't go there....it's not worth it. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Gavin
What a crap this restaurant is.
They don't know what hospitality is and is Absolutely pathetic and arrogant staff.

The worst experience ever in life.i go out every weekend but never had seen something like this before in 32 years.
An Antelope
What a farce. The worst dining experience I've ever had. The "Fanta" that tasted like flat carbonated cordial set the bar for the night, and it was never lifted.
We were treated to a three hour show full of absurdity, rude attitudes and clueless staff. A "busy night" is not an excuse for such disgraceful and inattentive service.
When the food finally arrived, I could only laugh at the serving sizes. For the prices you pay, you expect more than a few pieces of meat (and even less seafood) swimming in a small bowl of curry for a main.
All up I had the best worst night of dinner and theatre. Would highly recommend for the laughs.
Karanveer Singh Dhillon
Was there with mates for the new years eve. Booked a table of 6 paying 125$ per head.
The worst experience ever, rudest owners ever seen.
Food served cold, couldn't get it right after sending back three times, no spoons served with the curries?? C'mon first thing we serve in the cutlery is a spoon to eat rice n curry, just so many let downs, spoiled the night
Apparently we did wanted to give a feedback before leaving and surprisingly the lady owner was too rude and didn't wanted to listen to a thing we said.
I understand they were busy but all i could say is there are nicer ways to say things specially when the customer is trying to give you a constructive feedback.
Never ever going back and would not recommend anyone too..
Kaushik Sridhar
A cool, quaint but large Indian restaurant located in the heart of Docklands! We walked past it a number of times and decided to check it out last night. Run by a lovely couple we were welcomed in with true Indian hospitality. Being spacious we were able to get a nice corner seat with a view of the harbour.

We started with a couple of lovely lassis and a Chicken 65 entree. My wife is a pescatarian and she couldn't resist trying the chicken as it looked completely divine and heavenly! I ate the entire plate and it was deeelicious. I could have actually had 65 pieces of Chicken 65 if allowed...For mains we ordered the fish and chicken mains along with some garlic and pizza naan. Pizza naan?? It was unique but definitely a hit and not a miss.

Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant for a pleasant Indian meal with a good view and reasonable customer service.

Word of caution: if you do use the Liven app, make sure you are a member in order to avail the discount. We weren't members unfortunately (didn't know this at the time) and were left short-handed at the counter....disappointed with that aspect of the customer service as the neighbouring Indian restaurant has the 'art of customer service' mastered!
Matt Holman
I'm sorry I really wanted to like this place as the service was somewhat friendly and set up is decent (not what you would find at your average Indian joint). The food however is awful!! I could probably make better curries at home using pataks! The nan was so thick and almost inedible. Will not be returning for sure!
Tarun Goenka
Disgusting food that is not even close to Indian or Pakistani food. They do not know how to make authentic Indian food and are just adding vegetables with some tomato sauce to serve you. Their curries are sweet enough that you wouldn't want any sweets after your meal. Curried are fully loaded with sugar rather than spices.

So happy to have discovered the delicious food at this new Docklands restaurant, via a voucher offer. We enjoyed our vegetable samosas but the mains were truly outstanding . Both our lamb saag and chicken tikka masala were delicious and accompanied with yummy naan; the garlic naan delectable. The gulam jamun dessert was good rounding out a very satisfying meal. We will be back, now that we've found you :)

PS: we did return, had other dishes which were equally delicious but if you haven't tried it before, we highly recommend Kheer for dessert. It's the most delicious Indian style rice pudding ever.

Had a wonderful night with mouthwatering dinner. Panner lolly pops, pizza naan and chicken jalferzi were mouthwatering. Mainly i would love to visit this hotel for the ambience and the quality food provided. Great addition to docklands.

Mint-O-Mustard does India proud!

With unbeatable spectacular city, waterfront views and delicious food, Mint-O-Mustard ticks all the boxes. Me and my husband visit this place quite often and it has never let us down. As a vegetarian, I've never had such a unique variety of Indian entrees in Melbourne and PANEER LOLLIPOP hits the spot for me. For my husband it was the MINT PRAWN TANDOORI!

The mains are just as delicious but if there is one thing I would recommend for anyone who visits this food heaven is their PIZZA NAAN. Being a food enthusiast I love Italian food just as much as Indian and when you bring these two together what you experience is joy and you want it more of, EVERY SINGLE TIME . This Indian bread is to die for!

We love this place, their service and the ambience. And on days when we are not in a mood for a full meal, we just swing by and sit at the bar munching on the delish entrees.

Impressive Ambience, very classy environment and a friendly welcome!
Tried the Pizza Naan, Indo Chinese and Mango Lassi...everything was very tasty!
Highly recommend this restaurant, will definitely be back

Awesome food and service. The paneer lollipops, veg manchurian and curries were delicious...will definitely be back to try more of their menu.

Been here so many times, the ambience is really awesome. Had chicken tandoori, lamb vindaloo, samosa, panner chilly and saffron rice each had a different taste and being a foodholic this place is in my list now. Indians in Melbourne get your summer glasses on and hop into mint-o- mustard @ docklands

Great addition to the Docklands Precint and one of the best Indian restaurants I have had in the Melbourne area. Indo chinese menu was great and keen to try more of their menu in the coming days. Good, modern ambience as well.

We've been also trying their indo chinese menu which is excelled and their rotis are lovely and fresh. Highly recommend if you are looking for top quality ,fresh Indian food!

What a wonderful new addition to the docklands precinct! Mint-o-Mustard is a lovely, modern Indian restaurant which has an impressive menu and a great selection of wines. The food is vibrant and tasty, with great attention taken to presentation and flavors. The Paneer Lollipops are a must try!!! The staff are friendly and very welcoming. Highly recommend, can't wait to return and try more dishes.

Poor quality of food, tasted like it was made from a ready-to-eat mix. Very disappointing. Had ordered takeaway, so cannot comment on restaurant ambience or service.
Overall the food was average. Malai kofta was good. The roti could definitely be improved. Service was alright. Presentation of snacks was not great.
Modern and bright restaurant on the promenade at Docklands. Extensive menu and a quality wine list. After discussions with the owner, we asked that they feed us (then we didn't have to choose), and out came some really delicious entrees flowed by mains with matching wine. The food was consistently fresh and well spiced.

Lovely fresh food, full of great flavour. Excellent, friendly and prompt service by the owners and a good selection of drinks. We will definitely be back.
