Fantastic chips and steaks. Pizza is brilliant. If you are the house cut fries fan, you will love the fries in Charlies bar. And I recon it’s one of the best chips in entire Melbourne.

Good Food Good Mood

I once went on an awful date at this establishment but I don't hold it against them. Situated on the atmospheric Hardware Lane it's got a surprisingly extensive and impressive wine list. I'm a cocktail girl myself and not only is the selection extremely comprehensive they will also oblige you in creating something bespoke. Basements and laneways are my bag bar-wise so this place ticks all the boxes. I'ts nothing fancy and I've never eaten there so I can't comment on the food but i think it has a real rustic charm in a world full of slick rooftop bars (which don't get me wrong I also love).

Stumbled upon this gem whilst wandering around the city. Drinks were awesome and the vibe was great too (love the exposed brick and the old school jazz music). Not giving it 5/5 just because the service was a tad bit slow but that's really nitpicking. Will be back though!

Great Cocktails. Cocktails have real fruit and are simply delicious. Great value if you get there for Happy Hour. Food is tasty too :) Intimate atmosphere. More mature crowd in late 20s - 30s.

Great service and freindly staff. Hosted farewell drinks here a few weeks ago. The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. Definitely worthy of its location.

Down for a bit of Charlie.
Was here for a few after work drinks on Friday night and it was the perfect place to unwind after a busy week .
Wasn't too busy either and the drinks specials were great and covered beer, wine and cocktails too.
Good music and cosy atmosphere all added to this intimate basement bar experience.
Left the bar happy and already planning the next trip back. Keep up the good work!

Two for one cocktails. Happy Hour is buzzing at this Melbourne city bar and draws a cool crowd. Haven't tried the tapas/bar food but it looks tasty. The cocktails are delicious which is why me and my friends come back.

City hang out. Down some stairs in Hardware Lane, first time almost impossible to find without the held of a waiter nearby but the venue itself is very nice and trendy. Cool bar layout and tasty bar food. Their happy hour is awesome, pretty sure you pay $10 for two cocktails before 8 pm. Good way to get loose in a typical hidden melbourne bar.

Go HERE!!!! Seriously!!! Why wouldn't you ?! David the owner is freakin fantastic!! Chatty and welcoming on arrival whether you're solo or in a group. Great wine available at happy hour! Super funky vibe downstairs in terms of decor and furniture! David sang aloud with us and had a drink with us to add to a super friendly relaxed feel. BLOODY LOVED IT and will be back!!

Very nice pasta, chef was happy to make slight adjustments to our liking. Service was fantastic and very nice bar lounge area downstairs. We will definitely be back. Love it!
