Review Pearson & Murphy's Cafe - Melbourne

Vegan Jalapeno wrap is very yum! Decent coffee, quite strong! I love that there is sparkling water on tap.

You can get a coffee quickly here. Located in RMIT uni, very convenient place.

The coffee is ok but the bagel can be skipped! The exterior of the building is under renovation now so sitting outside might not be a good choice.

Quick service, salads, yoghurts, vegetarian, the full range of lunch food . Always busy, good vibe. Closes evenings.

We run Shut Up and Write sessions here every Friday morning from 9 am. We like Pearson and Murphy's because it feels like the cafe at the heart of RMIT. Thanks for hosting us, P&M.

a good place with great coffee. good for snacks, but personally I don't love the food. That's just me though.

Best place in the busiest part of Melbourne for a quick lunch or a coffee-meeting. Food is always good and very fairly priced. In comparison, I've eaten a couple of times in the cafe in the state library, 100 meters from this Cafe - more expansive and food not nearly as good.

We got the wrong order on both our coffee and food. Ordered poached eggs and they were hard boiled. Server argued with us when we stated we ordered a hot chocolate, not a coffee... really poor experience.

Mainly come here just for soup - extra points for serving with a seeded roll. Very few vegetarian sandwich options, and the bread is quite poor quality. Haven't tried the coffee.

I like the space and interior of the cafe. Food in general is delicious. Staff are friendly and service is good. I used to like their coffee before change of management. It's a shame that coffee is not as good as it used to be.

Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

A solid cafe. Decent coffee. Great slices! I liked their vanilla slice - it's my weakness! It was nice and sweet and the pasty was flaky!

Great quality food. Best coffee around Rmit for its price. Friendly staff with great customer service. So much to choose from the menu. Personal favorite Traditional Eggs Benedict.

Great setting but not a great lunch option compared with some of the alternatives nearby. They made a several errors with my order and in the end I gave up and took away a product which didn't match my order. Coffee was quite cold and the quality of the food is not great. Mr. Tulk near the State Library and Squisito Bar in QV are superior alternatives.

I'm a student so I've come here a few times. The cafe itself has quite a nice ambience but that's about it. Coffee isn't good. Hot Chocolate is sickly sweet. I didn't even know you could make a Chai Latte so badly until I came here - served in a giant milkshake glass, overpoweringly sugary. I can only imagine ever coming back here if I've pulled an all-nighter for a project and I need ten kilos of sugar to get me through a class.

The food looks decent when you see it, but when I ordered a focaccia one day it took them 15-20 minutes to toast it and it was very bland and dry. Honestly, the old campus canteen had better toasties. Given this place is right in the middle of the CBD, there are hundreds of other great places to go to. Skip this one.

Great spot for RMIT students and faculty to pop in and grab a bite between classes. Prices are very reasonable on food items, and service is usually quick! Staff are always friendly, I've never had a bad experience here.

Made us pay for water...enough said.
Also, the pancakes with strawberries/banana ($13) was bland and were not round nor looked appealing, just a glob of pancake with icecream and fruit. Could've made this dish for $2 at home.

DISSAPOINTED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT.... I went here today on my lunch break with my partner .. What an awful mistake indeed!
We ordered a meal each... Mine came out on time which was great but the quality was just horrible! Really badly poached eggs and un flavoured mushrooms on an awful piece of toast (Supermarket standard) Really did not suffice...
To make matters worse I had finished my meal and my partners meal still hadn't arrived... By this stage forty minutes had passed.
We told several floor staff members about the issue They said they would do something about it but never got back to us.
My partner then got up and asked for his money back and the staff treated him rudely... no apologies for not delivering a meal or anything. Just slapped his money back in his hand.
I will not be returning!!

Strange Chicken Caesar Salad. I ordered a take away of Chicken Caesar Salad just now. The dressing taste like mayonnaise with added water. The the odd thing is it has strips of scrambled egg mixed with the lettuce. Where's the chicken? Obviously, it hasn't hatched... yet?

Great service. My first coffee was served warm but my second was perfect. Good value for money - I had corn fritters with a generous serve of non fatty bacon and spinach. My fritters could have done with a bit more corn and the spinach could have been drained a bit more. But overall quite satisfied. My partner enjoyed his eggs with salmon and avocado. No scratchy toast here

Pearson and Murphy's CafeGreat for a summer day with plenty of seating in the courtyard, this café is your classic all-rounder, and I’m not talking your bat-a-bit, bowl-a-bit all-rounder that Inverarity and Co would favour but a genuine all round café. The last couple of times I have tucked into some Thai Chicken Patti with salad and its been delicious but I recommend this place not for any particular dish that stands out but rather for consistently delivering food that is fresh, interesting and tasty.

Pearson and Murphy’s is a big departure from the cafeteria’s I was used to at Uni back in the 80s. Back then it was just a pie or for something exotic some fried rice with chilli sauce! This place offers quality gourmet food in the form of wraps, sandwiches, muffins and the like.

Oblivious to PR reality.... Our company will not use their catering service anymore due to aggressive and unprofessional behavior displayed by the management. Sending threatening emails and attempting to intimidate a client is really not the best way to maintain a relationship. Not signing your hostile correspondence with your name - is a sign of cowardice. It appears that the management is not aware that negative reviews translate directly into loss of business and brand damage. A word-of-mouth recommendation is the primary factor behind 20% to 50% of all purchasing decisions.

Why would you serve eggs with unbuttered, white, supermarket toast. My mouth is still dry and throat still scratched from eating here last week.

-----04 Dec, 2013-----

Consistently yummy food - breakfast options are cheap and the pancakes are fluffy and delicious. The wide range of wraps and sandwiches are excellent (I recommend the chorizo roti). Coffee isn't amazing but the food more than makes up for it!

Bad customer indeed!!

$13.50 big breakfast is an absolute winner....amazing every time. Also their sandwiches/rolls/wraps are all amazing on great bread or roti wraps. Delish

Today was a bad day for mr Pearson and his accomplice murphy. Coffee is never good here today it was exceptionally bad, it wasn't busy today however the service was unfriendly and at a snails pace I think they had to kill the wagyu cow in order to make the burger. Can't wait until you're lease expires and we get a new uni cafe.

Very Nice Spot. Great Cafe, especially for a Uni, so many options you could go everyday.

Good vibe, location, lots of seats that always get filled.

Had the mushroom/thyme soup, was fairly bland with just a sprinkle of dried thyme on top and a WHOLE lot of bland mushroom soup, with the out of a packet bread and airline butter the only 'saviors'. Still, the other food looks quite nice, and I'd suggest avoiding that soup.

Weak manager - Poor preparation skills. One of the staff members burned my ham+cheese+tomato croissant (which I ordered to take away) and still cut it up, packed it up and handed it to me over the counter with a smile. The outside of it was completely charred to black and I could smell the smoke 6-8 feet away. When I told her that I saw what she did, she didn't even say sorry.

I told the manager about this and the guy took over from her. Then he put a new HCT croissant with the tomato still in it and he didn't even keep it long enough to make the cheese melt properly. So I get a new one with a mushy tomato and stiff cheese.

I'm writing it here since the manager obviously doesn't understand when I told him to his face. Hope he can read. And in the future I'll be checking things before I take them away.

Omelette was good and very filling! I think coffee was taken too far.. Loved the decor, service pretty quick as well. But overall good and will be back!
Wonderfull
Good looking staff & food. I reccomend a thai chicken pattie or arancini with salad, it'll cost you around 9 bucks and your tummy will be sorted for the rest of the day. Tasty food, particularly the salads. Also don't forget to show your student card to get a discount! Some afternoons they even have free drinks.

Bleeeeaaaargh!. Possibly one of the worst coffees in Melbourne. Tried them on three separate occasions, each time a strong flat white came out tasting like stale warm milk.
Nidabloom
Smooth lattes, nice and healthy good options. Brekkie menu looks well-priced, but am yet to try it. Don't forget the student discount. As well as being able to sit back and read/study - perfect excuse for having a coffee by yourself and not moving.

A place like Pearson & Murphy's does not deserve to thrive. Broadsheet says its opening hours are Mon - Fri 730 am - 430 pm. It's Friday 27 Jan at 2.00 pm and they have shut. I can see no notices on the doors informing anyone they would be closing early. I find it puzzling that in 2012 they still find it ok to shut whenever they feel like without rhyme or reason. On Australia Day, understandable. The day after Australia Day, if their hearts aren't in it, why open at all? Do yourself a favour and take your patronage where your business will welcomed.

Food is awesome. Coffee used give good but getting worse

This place is quite comfortable with lots and lots of space. And on such a nice day like today, who'd want to sit inside when there are outdoor tables. They do have a free drinks with friends event on Thursdays during the semester, with a cool DJ playing the tunes. Posted by katy_em at 5:46 PM Email This BlogThis! Share to Twitter Share to Facebook
