I’m a return customer. I order ayam geprek from ubereats and upgrade it to large size but they gave me the normal size. They didn’t even pick up the phone when I tried to call them many times.

This place used to be good during lockdown for its cheap price (when you have coupons), and I used to like the pork belly here.
But now the quality is very bad and unstable. The pork cracker on the pork belly is hard rather than crispy. The sukiyaki beef sticked together rather than thin slices, and has a smelly taste of old meat. The worst part: that evening after eating the meal, I got food poisoning. Reconsider before buying a discount voucher of this place

Charging for a new price with an old menu, then say the new menu hasn't arrived, but we are charging you the newly elevated fee anyways. Going large is a total scam; for $3.90, change the size of the bowl and call it “large”. I mean, I wouldn't mind paying the money but be ethical if you want to run a restaurant or any business. What is the purpose of a restaurant when you can’t even feed your customer enough? I went large because I am hungry, not because I am rich.
Also, Crazy rice has sausage with the skin on. Come on. This can't be Indonesian cuisine, right?

Lunch have never been so better and delicious, until I dined in @kakilima.au who serves authentic, spicy and delectable Indonesian food that is loved by one and all.
Personally I loved and would highly recommend the Grilled Fish Rica-Rica, that is so incredible that I fell in love right from the very first bite. That Rica rica salsa sauce complimented so perfectly with the grilled fish that was so soft, succulent and cooked with perfection.
But you won't wanna miss the 'Crazy' Rice and there's a reason why it's called Crazy?! If you love heat and spiciness, then this one is a must. It's a deconstructed fried rice with yummilicious meat combo and rich sweet soy flavor and you have the option to make it devil hot as well.
Although someone who can't handle heat, must definitely go for the Indonesian Butter Chicken, it's so homey in one word. You might call this your go-to comfort food after having it. It has got melted cheese at the top, perfectly cooked and tender chicken pieces and comes with a sweet margarine sauce. It's so fantastic and yum.
They serve their menus in a cute paper bowl and the amount is more than sufficient for one individual. Also it's got a cozy space, overlooking the RMIT basketball courts, and the staff is so friendly and kind.
@kakilima.au has launched a wide variety of chilli oil and crunchy munchy hard-to-resist snacks. So definitely check those out.

This is a hidden gem behind RMIT building 80. We have been here so many times for their CRAZY rice. It is very flavourful and a bit spicy.

Went and tried this place. The place is quite small, and quite hidden in RMIT building. The small place reminds me of Japanese fast foods in Japan, has similar decor and feel. Dishes come in a bowl, which remind me of the cheap student foods back in uni. Menu is quite interesting, Indonesian fused with other asian dishes. I had the rendang chicken rice and the butter chicken rice. I have to say the rendang is a letdown. The sauce was so salty and nothing special, taste just like I cook it (which is nothing special). Buying from a restaurant, I would expect it to be better than my attempt at home. Butter chicken is nice, has some sweetness to it. There were 2 pieces of broccoli as veggie which they could do more. But I guess it’s a cheap meal, only like $9 a bowl. Still, not sure if I would come back. I have had better uni cheap food.

A hidden gem in melbourne! Located around the RMIT area. The restaurant itself is pretty small and cute, has great food for those Indonesian looking for a quick bite. <br/><br/>To be honest, the dish that's worth your money in my opinion is the Ayam Geprek, other than that their other dishes aren't that great.

Somewhat hidden location for people are not part of the university community. Prices are decent, flavours were there however I think portion could be a bit bigger. My full bowl of rice only came with 3 small slices of fish. Also, it would be great if the restaurant becomes more eco friendly and introduce reusable cutleries. My meal came in a paper bowl and plastic fork and spoon eventho I was eating in.

Budget friendly place, nothing special and you get what you paid for. Friendly staff, good food good taste of spices. Though rice is a bit plenty compared with the dish. This is perfect for big rice eaters. Ordered chicken rendang and mild spicy is perfect for me for a cold weather.

This place is quite hidden amidst the chaos of construction around the RMIT precinct. The interior is showing its age with run down furniture and dull colours everywhere. Having said that though, the food and its pricing is extremely attractive. <br/><br/>You can get a decent sized meal for less than $10. Their menu items are quite limited but the fair exchange is the speed of the service. For today, I had the butter chicken and the rendang chicken. The former was nothing like any butter chicken that I have ever eaten - it was fried chicken with some cheesy sauce on it. The rendang chicken was exceptional and tasted like the real deal. Both dishes came with rice and vegetables. <br/><br/>Love your work Kaki Lima!

Ayam geprek was not indonesian ayam geprek it was only fried boneless chicken with raw smashed extremely spicy chillies, so I it felt like eating chillies with rice and the chicken it was the same fried chicken they use for ayam rica rica. The butter chicken was ok, nothing special and used the same fried boneless chicken as well. And it took more than 30 minutes only to prepared the foods. So dissapointed.

The menu at Kaki Lima is straight to the point, there are 8 options available and the food comes out shortly after, ideal for takeaway. Although we were eating in we were given plastic bowls, I hope they change it to a combination of reusable bowls for dining in or biodegradable bowls for takeaway.<br/><br/>Besides that their food is modern Indonesian so expect some interesting interpretations, I can almost hear the Indonesians cry foul about their crispy chicken rendang. I order up their pork belly sambal matah, the sambal on top of the pork made the dish, spicy with sweet onions. It soaked into the rice and it never felt bland. The pork belly although it had decent crackling, the bottom half of it was dry and not my favourite. Fix that and you've got a killer bowl.<br/><br/>My friend really enjoyed their 'crazy' rice, he did say it did become a bit salty but the flavours were fantastic. Not something you'd order everyday however.<br/><br/>Our portions were of large size and it was filling. They've got a good price point and it reminds me of a couple other fast Japanese outlets making quick trade.

Kaki Lima offers an alternative to the more common Indonesian dishes found in Melbourne, and I keep telling myself I should try out the rest of the menu, but on both occasions we had the Crazy Rice and Pork Belly Sambal Matah.<br/><br/>The Crazy Rice is an interesting take on a traditional fried rice. A combination of minced meat, sausages and chicken pieces (very stingy on the chicken though), topped with crushed dorito chips and mixed with sweet soy sauce, it was very flavourful and a comforting feed.<br/><br/>The pork belly was, on both occasion, moist and tender, with a layer of crispy skin. Top marks for consistency. However, definitely could do with more sambal matah to give this dish a much needed flavour kick.<br/><br/>Pretty good value for money, and the portion size is just right for me but for my partner, he definitely had space in his tummy for more.

Right next to The RMIT University. Went here with a few colleagues on our lunch break. This is another suprisingly good place for a quick lunch. Very close to our office. So we had put it on our lunch spot in the office. The food tastes great. Definitely gonna try out other items in the future.

We had crazy rice and the pork belly sambal matah. They were nice but nothing blew our mind as we had tasted better before. I guess it’s definitely okay if you missed or craved Indonesia street food. The price and the portion was reasonable, they were quite suitable for students. The place was cozy but a bit small and not really suitable for big parties, however it’s right in front of the RMIT’s basketball court so when the weather is nice, you could have the meal while watching some basketball game on the court.

Bit spicy for my liking, great for meat lovers or when you feel like something junk food.<br/><br/>Butter chicken - I like how it got the melted cheese and sweet corn on top, but for me personally I still prefer the traditional butter chicken from India. Came in hoping to try the “Crazy Rice” but apparently it’s sold out. But I’m optimistic that the chicken rendang will be nice. The chicken rendang is served with fried chicken and a mild curry which is slightly sweet. However, the portion is so small that I only got a few pieces of fried chicken with not even a half bowl of rice. In the flyer they serve it with vege, but the serving i got has nothing except the sad little fried chicken and rice 😢 My boyfriend experience the same thing and both of us are really disappointed. Definitely not coming back 😢 I was really excited to try out this restaurant for the very first time, however it will be the last time for me. With the same amount of price, you could definitely get a bugger portion and nicer food ☹️

The quality at Kaki Lima has diminished over the past 6-12 months. I remember coming here and getting a good filling. lots of toppings and rice, and the meat to rice ratio used to be pretty good for the price you're charged.<br/><br/>These days, the quality of the food has gone down. The ratio of meat to rice or meat to noodles depending what you buy is quite bad. There are times where they forget things in the bowl, they burn their food or there's just an overall lacking.<br/><br/>However, for the price of each bowl, it is still okay. I once would give this place a 3.5 or 4, but now the last few times I've eaten food from Kaki Lima, it has made a drastic slide down.

I am a regular visitor of Kakilima, partly because the place is pretty easy to reach and mostly because the Grilled Fish Rica-rica is my favorite Indonesian dish (ever, until now). I always have the sambal on the side or separate, because it's too spicy for me if they put in on the rice. <br/>Their Babi Sambal Matah and Bala-Bala (Vegetable Fritters) are also nice.<br/><br/>The Kaki Lima apps also let you have free meal after 15meals (which is pretty good deal for regular customers).

The female staff was smiley and approachable.<br/>I tried the •crazy rice and had it in the spiciest level. If you're a chili lover like me, go ahead and place the order. It isn't what I would consider 'spicy' but the chili comes through (unlike most food in MEL that claim to be 'hot') and I think it's the right amount of heat for the dish.<br/>Also, my friend had the •sukiyaki cabe and mentioned that he liked the green chili sauce (less spicy than the crazy rice).<br/>The shop is reminiscent of a small tuckshop and does not accommodate large groups (also, bar seating). Nevertheless it is comfortable and feels quite like a friend's place.

Try the: Nasi Gila <br/><br/> Highly reasonable prices for excellent Indonesian cooking. I was sort-of addicted to their Nasi Gila (fried rice with doritos) for a while because it is so well-seasoned and reminescent of the fried rice I used to have in Indonesia. Their sukiyaki is pretty good, and their pork belly with sambal is crisp without being too hard! Beware of the Ikan Rica-Rica unless you handle your spicy well though! The fish is always cooked well in the other dishes, but my friend literally cried from the spiciness the sauce. But other than that, Kaki Lima is definitely my go-to place for takeaway food.

Never tried to eat in the restaurant, but managed to have delivery order for a couple of times. Ordered the pork noodle for first order, and beef rendang for the second; it was both a disappointment. I understand that the price is very “pocket friendly”. But I would rather pay a couple more dollars to get better quality, and more meat / veggies to accompany noodle or rice.<br/><br/>The pork in pork noodle was “smelly”, I wasn’t sure if it was due to the type of pork or part of pork, or the meat wasn’t fresh enough. The noodle itself was actually not bad, I am happy with the texture, but not satisfy with the taste of noodle (maybe the sauce? Or it may as well just my personal preference). Hope they will improve on this one.<br/><br/>In beef rendang, I was not happy at all with the sauce. It was very runny, and nothing similar to the taste of rendang sauce. It taste weird for rendang.<br/><br/>Another thing I would hope is that they offer some side dishes. As the meat and veggie generally very little compared to rice, I would love to have some additional option for side dishes.

I was walking by a'becket street the other day with some friends and came across this cozy looking restaurant, so we decided to give it a try.<br/><br/>The crazy rice (nasi gila) caught our attention and it surely did not disappoint us.. as an indonesian myself, i have quite a high expectations, but the dishes served were definitely beyond my expectation (PS: they use nachos to replace the "krupuk" and it's a good idea 👍)<br/>Nothing is better than having a taste of home in a foreign land.

Love this new fast food Indonesian joint. Its a small little shop tucked away behind thr RMIT business campus facing the basketball court. I find it hard to complain about the food considering its student priced, very few places you'd find in Melbourne selling a decent homey meal under $10 these days unless you eat at maccas or subway, thus Kaki Lima is an excellent alternative. Personally, Kaki Lima's dishes are best mixed rather than just picking what is in the pictures. My favorite is to have Crispy Chicken Cabe Ijo (green chilli) and add a sambal matah (sweet onion chillis) with it, then give a happy dash of sweet soy (Kicap Manis) to top it off.<br/><br/>Update: Kaki Lima now has delivery! Omgee! Best thing ever especially when you have sambal cravings on a cold, wet wintery melbourne night.

Had the Pork belly sambal matah and the crazy rice. Both are small in terms of portions and I ate both of them for my dinner. The Pork belly had chewy skin and the sambal isn't as great as I thought. The crazy rice had heavier Soy sauce flavour which is great and the nachos on top seems like adding the wrong stuff. Nb: it doesn't come with fried rice as well. Perhaps the only kudo would be it been sent by ubereat and there are no minimum order.

Tried this place few weeks ago, food wise is nothing special. Would probably give them rating 2.5 for it. But seriously, even your place is very small, again customer service is VERY important. BE NICE and friendly, treating everyone equally with SMILE. From memory we were served by a a young female with pony tail at the counter, no customer service at all. You need to train her more. As I said, food is ok only, but with you having server like that, not good at all.

Accidental discovery of a cheap and cheerful, hole in the wall place. With only 8 items to choose from I tried the Bang 'J' Pork Noodle - Indonesian egg "rubber" noodle with savoury garlic pork mince and pork crackling topping. Tasty and good value but I won't be rushing back. Being part of the RMIT precinct, this place is aimed at the student market.

I had crazy rice it was tasty, the next day i came back to get the same dish but what i got was just taste like an egg with a sweet soy sauce. So less meat. I dont think this a place is a worth to try. If u are on a budget and really want to eat outside you can try this shop. But i think buy some groceries and cook yourself a meal is much worth it, will never come back again.

I love love love their green chilli topping - just the right amount of hotness and a hint of home! I say one of the best ones in town in comparison to many other indonesian green chilli dishes. Their crispy chicken and pork belly dish are also delicious! A great young concept overall as i have been looking around for an Indonesian-topped rice bowl dishes and I have been a regular eversince my first visit. Look forward to many more visits!

The beef ball soup is very yummm and so authentic indonesian, love the way they combine the tendon-balls and indo-beef-ball. the crazy rice was also phenomenal, really like the sauce and the toppings.. that makes this rice-dish rocks. will definitely come back again and try other menus anytime soon..<br/>

Hole in the wall place I've walked past a few times and just had to try. The menu looks quite interesting and it's cheap and cheerful and aimed at students. Had the Indo style butter chicken. It was ok but I don't think I'll rush back. Sure it was cheap at $8 but the taste wasn't particularly amazing.

Kakilima has opened up just near RMIT and on its grand opening it had a huge line of students. They don't have much in terms of seating but what they do have is good. They are renowned for their spicy Indonesian food but what I got for $8.90 was two small pieces of fish and rice and not much vegetables. We the Asians love our vegetables a lot. For free I got a can of Sprite but couldn't finish it all.

I rarely write a food review, but dang, this is good stuff.<br/>Been to so many Indonesian restaurants in Melbourne, but the flavor here is very similar back home. Price is cheap. And the best thing about this restaurant is that most of the menus have a little twist in it. <br/>I've eaten countless Rendang before (originally with beef). But this, that's what you called invention, Crispy Chicken with Rendang Sauce, both of my favorites combined, boom, Heaven. "Sukiyaki Cabe Ijo", typically used in Japanese cuisine but with a touch of Indonesian flavors = magical.<br/>Well done! You guys satisfied my crave for true Indonesian food. Will come back for some more.

Kaki Lima recently opened its door to bring Indonesian hawker foods to Melbourne. It has a variety of different dishes from all over Indonesia, including Java, Bali, Sulawesi and Sumatra. Pork Belly Sambal Matah. I enjoyed their Pork belly with sambal matah so much that I personally claim that I can eat that everyday. Sambal matah is a Balinese chilli that comes with a lot of shallot which normally served with suckling pig or seafood at Jimbaran Bali. It is so rich with flavour and definitely made me felt slightly nostalgic for Balinese food.

A great little place: fresh and tasty Indonesian. It's only been open a week but already I've sampled most of the menu and thoroughly enjoyed it all. The crispy chicken rendang has a lovely roasted mild spice sauce and the grilled fish Rica-Rica has a super hot tangy red salsa- get it on the side if you can't take too much chilli. The pork noodle dish is also really good and I love the Padang green chilli sauce. There is not much room inside here but the staff are friendly and if you can't fit in, the takeaway service is efficient and the prices are really good. If you like Indonesian street style food, or even if you've never tried it, get some Kakilima for lunch or dinner. It's a great change from all the Korean/Japanese or Chinese places in the north of the CBD. Congrats to the young team who put this terrific little place together!
