Absolute garbage lamb isn't goat we know the difference and my order was so incomplete the chicken had no rice accompainment but swimming in oil. I don't like posting negative reviews but seriously, maybe it was doordashes fault, straight to the bin 40 dollars wasted

The best Currie I have ever had in my life. Full stop. These guys make what they have themselves. Beautiful family restaurant. Support them as they are the real deal.

After coming here for many years the owners have changed hands. Sadly the new owners have managed to turn a great restaurant into some of the worst Indian food I've ever had. Bland watery overpriced slop is being a generous description on this occasion. My guests on table had similar thoughts and I felt it was my duty to tell the new owners of what I thought and vowed to never return. Save your money diners it ain't worth the effort to ruin a night out. Huge disappointment I used to love coming here.

We got the chicken korma and butter chicken. The butter chicken was great but this is the first time where the korma was better then the butter chicken. Serioudly best chicken korma I've ever had.
Service was a little slow but we were not in a rush so didn't matter and the lady serving us was so nice. It's a nice small family business and great value.

The food and service was great. The staff were friendly and helpful, even made sure we were warm enough by offering a small heater. Had the butter cream chicken and lamb korma, both delicious with tender meat. Best curry I've had in Victoria so far, will definitely be going back there.

Came here tonight. It was fantastic. The food was tasty and delicious. The hostess was welcoming and helpful. Yes it may have been a little slower, but they were making everything fresh and it was worth the short wait. Would definitely recommend.
Lok Mac
Very slow service. I think the cook must have been away (one person seemed to be waiting + cooking). The food came very slowly.
The onion bhajia were great. Great breads too, and excellent and that they have so many gluten-free options (gluten free naan). However the eggplant curry was a massive let-down, spiced poorly with an over-powering bitter flavour. They also seemed to have run out of basmati rice too because the saffron rice seemed to be jasmine rice and was bland and over-cooked.
I feel like it could be worth a re-visit but it wasn't good this time.

We ordered for the first time from the Carlton curry house and I got the spicy ground lamb salad. The ground lamb was tasty but there was no salad - no dressing - no mint - no coriander - no toasted sesame seeds and no complimentary naan bread. It was pretty much spicy and flavoursome ground lamb with slices of carrot. The flavour was there but for $20 a bit disappointing.
Abdul Soulisa
We ordered lamb briyani, beef vindaloo, and plain roti. Surprisingly, their plain roti is good. The service was quick although only one girl act as a chef, cashier, and waitress at the same time. She is very nice. The ambiance of the restaurant is very good and a little bit romantic for couple. They also provide second floor for big event.

I have travelled from Sydney so am not a dodgy reporter.<br/><br/>Well if you haven’t been here and love Indian food you are missing out<br/><br/>I walked in off the street and it is sensational. <br/><br/>The food is to expectation, service is excellent and the staff engage with the customers.<br/><br/>Wine selection suits the venue and will not disappoint.<br/><br/>Make this your next Indian food destination

The best Indian restaurant i have visited in Lygon street, Melbourne. Had a great time in this restaurant, all the dishes were so delicious, gluten free and quick serving. This restaurant made my day :)

Ordered for home delivery, the service was good. Got extras that I ordered. Packaging was good. The quantities are sufficient as well. I ordered butter chicken which was average. The naans were particularly soft and spongy. I would not recommend the chicken korma though.

Excellent food with amazing hospitality... we enjoyed every single bite of our food. Would say this is best Indian restaurant, i have seen in city in regards of food and hospitality<br/>Will definitely go there again.<br/>

Amazing experience at Carlton curry house. Super delicious food, amazing ambience, excellent service and super accomodating for someone with coeliacs. Over all an amazing experience and well priced.

Went to the restaurant for dinner on our wedding anniversary and throughly enjoyed the meal, its highly recommended to all that enjoy great Indian food, will return in the near future.

Well if you haven’t been here you are really missing something<br/>I am down from Sydney and the authenticity of the food is exceptional.<br/>Wine list compliments the venue well and the service is excellent.<br/>I will recommend this to everyone who comes to Melbourne as a genuine value for money restaurant.<br/>Suits groups, families, couples and solo foodies like myself.<br/>Cheers and thanks<br/>John<br/>

"Dinner with group"<br/><br/>Seriously one of the great indian Restaurant In Melbourne Amazing food, goat curry sot on, Gluten free naan. we would highly recommend this place! corporate diner for 20 of us and every dish was delicious.

I loved this place! I'm vegan and they helped cater to my needs so well! Very friendly, lovely atmosphere, and the food was delicious! Would definitely go back!

Something different amongst the sea of Italian restaurants on Lygon St is Carlton curry house. I had butter chicken and garlic naan as well as trying my recent obsession Kashmiri naan which is a fruit and nut filled bread and just delicious. I was pleased to see they also have healthy options as well as indo Chinese food (my partners favourite) and some Burmese fusion dishes. Definitely something for everyone and prices pretty standard. I’m pretty surprised to see such negative views we certainly both had a pleasant experience and I would have no issue returning
Supercallafraga
Bitterly disappointed - goat curry was inedible it was so salty. Lamb vindaloo was vinegary and hardly any meat in the curry. Naan was flat and oily. I've ordered from here several times and overall they have been okay, but after this last order I think I'm done. It's just too expensive for this kind of quality (or lack thereof).

We ate at Carlton Curry House last night and i would have to say its the worst Indian food i have ever eaten. We ordered drinks and had to ask for them after almost 15 minutes. We ordered a tandoori sizzle platter. The lamb cutlets which were listed on the menu as part of this dish were not on the plate. We had to ask for them. The chicken was dry and tough and the cutlets were not much better. Madras chicken was bland and not authentic tasting but at least the chicken wasn't quite as tough as on the platter. The toilet facilities were quite dirty. This is not a cheap restaurant. Thoroughly disappointed and will never be back.

A truly must experience for everyone. Wonderful food and service top level experience. Unique and a special place to visit. Even got a $50 cashback from Liven as this is their partner restaurant. Worth to stop by.

Sad to see the negative reviews. I/we had some wonderful meal/s.<br/>Service was a little slow, portions were a bit small but we were pleasantly filled by the end.<br/>Wouldn't go out of my way as I don't live in the area, but if in Carlton would drop by.
Peter Swift
Beef vindaloo - 8 small chunks of meat in a soup of sweet bland gravy. Asked for hot, got child friendly. Recommend $4 Simmer<br/> sauce sachets from Coles and Woollies as closer to the real thing. Beware the fake 5 star reviews - note the two in 2015, lengthy and gushing but strangely identical

Food came late.then rice was cold and we had to send it back,it came back just Not cold, but was not really even warm.<br/>Chicken butter cream sauce was watery and not at all tick ,tasty though.<br/>Both dishes had like 4 -5 small pieces of beef/chicken and not more.<br/>Very dissapointed
Molly Wallis
Ordered takeaway based on rating of 3.7. No flavours - no spice, no salt, no sweet, no sour. Bland slop. Overcooked starchy rice. Do not bother.

With their large gluten free sign on the window it’s hard not to pay attention to the Carlton Curry House at 108 Lygon street in Carlton. Featured on The Gluten Free Eating directory I just had to get in contact with them regarding their Cross contamination methods. They were completely aware of how to prepare the gluten free foods safely. I even got to check out their kitchen which proved that they implemented their measures. If they had kept going at that level it would have been the perfect night.

THIS WOULD HAVE TO BE THE WORSE RESTAURANT I HAVE EATEN IN EVER!! <br/>I'm afraid I'm going to be sick later tonight. <br/>Never in my life have I ever been as disappointed in restaurant. <br/>
Paws Delight Dog Grooming Service
Worst restaurant experience ever! Waited at least a minute inside the entry before greeted. Booked for table for five people but squished onto a table for four in front of the toilet exit. Toilet was at end of a dirt track outside. Filthy toilet, only female toilet working. Food and stores were placed on shelves on way to toilet. Waiter brought stores in from toilet exit into the restaurant area. Unpleasant Smell came throught exit door where we were sitting every time it was used. Poor lighting. We asked for additional lighting from spot lights but got no luck there. Three of the sides never appeared which unfortunately my husband paid for...we were all in a hurry to eat and get out of there. Food average...this restaurant will be referred to the council by me...not acceptable in this country.
Adrian Flint
Beef vinaloo was tough, chicken tandoori was cold, crinkle cut frozen carrots in one dish. Extremely slow service, filthy floors and disgustingly greasy passageway out to the filthy bathroom- never going back!

This place sucks! I am an Indian and this is the worst Indian food I have had in my entire life. <br/>1. The service was bad. I had to keep getting up from my table and go to the counter for every single thing.<br/>2. I had called in earlier to check if this was an "authentic" Indian restaurant. It is not!<br/>3. I know Indian food is normally "continentalized" to ensure everybody enjoys it. But Carlton Curry butchered Indian food. Indian food is amazing with so much flavour and taste to it. (And I don't just mean spicy)<br/>4. I specifically requested the server to make the food the authentic way and with a lot of flavor (not just spicy). The flavor was barely there. There was literally no taste at all.<br/>5. The entrée which was supposed to be hot was cold.<br/><br/>Ready to cook food is much better than Carlton Curry food.<br/><br/>You guys may think I am biased. I went there with an Italian friend. And he had the exact same opinion. <br/><br/>Sadly I can't give a negative rating so was forced to give a 1.<br/><br/>Am I going back to this place. Never!!!
Joy
Very, very, very tight on the portions. <br/>Their butter chicken should be called simply "butter" because we had trouble finding the chicken in the main servings we ordered. <br/>In all honesty, to put it into perspective find the smallest piece of KFC you can find, tear the chicken off and place it in a main serving of butter sauce. That is what you get. <br/>In all seriousness what we ended up doing is taking the three main servings of butter chicken that we bought. We extracted the chicken from two of them and we placed it all in the one tub. And even then it was nowhere near full. <br/><br/>The prawn malai we ordered a couple of weeks prior was just as bad. <br/>If you are ordering for one it seems you will need three servings of whatever main you want. If you are ordering for two you will need six.... well you get the idea. <br/>Go somewhere else.

Upon reading lots of great reviews, we decided to make this our first nights dinner plan! <br/><br/>Overall, I think I had greater expectations after reading the review on carlton curry website.<br/><br/>I could not fault carlton curry house restaurant. It had everything going for it. The chicken tikka malai entree was very yummy. The lamb rogan josh dish that was recommended was simply one of the best Indians dishes I've had. What really was impressive is the staff that were able to help me choose. When I ask the waitstaff at a restaurant what is what you would order often the standard reply is, 'Well, everything is great here.' Only to find its not. Well, everything was exactly as described and more. It was totally absolutely delicious!!! Not only that but the value for money here is insane. The staff rock.<br/><br/>I must say, in terms of the dessert, that is the best Faluda kulfi I've had!! Not forgetting the complimentary gulab jamun you serve with it!! <br/><br/>Thank you so much. I will most definitely return next time in melbourne.

Wonderful experience. Excellent food. This restaraunt certainly deserves all the awards it has won.We walked in off the street after being disappointed when eating an entree at the Thai restaurant next door which was empty and should have read alarm bells. We had to book at the carlton curry house for the following Tuesday early evening and it didn't disappoint. The flavours were unique, one of the best Indian meals we've had and we eat a lot of Indian meals particularly in London.

Excellent food. Dinner was excellent... Everything we order was delicious. Staff is very friendly nd service is very quick. One of the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne.

Fabulous feast. We had the tasting feast, it was fabulous. Wonderful range of curries and accompaniments that was designed for us after a discussion of our likes and dislikes. Couldn't recommend it more highly if you are in the mood for Indian food.

Feeling disappointed. We ordered 2 Burmese dishes from their menu but both weren't available. And it was Saturday night!<br/><br/>I showed them my Entertainment card which supposes to cover 25% of the bill. They refused to accept with an excuse that the new owner wouldn't honor it. The card is valid until end of the month! We felt ripped off. Will not go there again.

Dinner was amazing. Best curry I've had in a long time. Wait staff were nice, place had just been painted that day (looks nice) and everything we ordered was just delicious. Service was relatively fast, and prices very good. Would highly recommend, will be going back.

At Carlton Curry House, the food is the star. Don't get me wrong, the service is great. It's attentive but not intrusive, making you feel comfortable in the restaurant's clean, small, space.

Tremendous service. They were extremely accommodating of my partner's difficult dietary requirements and made her an onion free curry. Amazing.

Carlton Curry House has been on my 'to try' list for a while now, and it happened that they were having a Deal Voucher for Lunch. I snapped up at the chance, bought the deal and booked in for lunch on a Friday. It was a quiet noon for them, with only one other table when we arrived. Although that was the case, service was terribly slow and we waited very long for our food. We were served Pappadams, Naan, Aloo Matar (potatoes cooked with green peas) and Beef Vindaloo. Food wise, the naan was quite oily but the curries were alright, pretty good. Overall, food wasn't good enough to have me returning and service was just way too slow. Carlton Curry House has good food, and is good value. Three of us ate there for $74, which was happy-making for us, and astounding for our Perth visitor. Man, they get done over so badly over there in WA, both in terms of quality and price. Also, and this is important here - just get the Kashmiri Naan, it's awesome. I would go there again just for that, even if the other stuff wasn't good, which it is. But the Kashmiri Naan is stellar.

I can not speak more highly about Carlton Curry House. We had a group of 18 eat there tonight and were so pleased with both the service and the quality of the food. Will definitely be back!

Simply Sensational!. We had our Christmas Dinner a week early at Carlton Curry House.Starting with housemade Nepalese momos with smokey baked tomato sauce and samosa with piquant fresh tamarind sauce, three diehards ordered their fave chicken butter cream. The kofta sauce was declared equal to the best French, and the Rogen Josh was delicious. The two diet conscious had succulent warm chicken tikka on a giant green salad!<br/>Then Peggy surprised us with a dessert platter of Christmas Pudd with pistachio custard and mango kulfi with huge fruit chunks in it.Attentive but not obtrusive table service from Monica and boss Peggy made our night.

Best Indian food ever !!!!!!. Four of us went last night. We ordered 2 entrees and 5 mains with rice and naan and it was the tastiest indian meal we have ever had. And we have been to so many indian restaurants. Service was excellent, friendly and prompt. Food was very fresh and aromatic. We used naan bread to mop up all the exotic flavours from each dish. Price is very good worked out to be $65 per couple!!!! Will definitely be back.

Amazing food & customer service. The food here is amazing & flavorsome!! Never disappoints.. Their customer service is always great. Truly great service with a smile!

Wonderful Dining Experience. Eating at the Carlton Curry House has prompted me to sign up to Urbanspoon. I thought that I could not let such a fabulous experience pass without reward. A friend chose the restraurant for the six of us that regularly see a movie, then eat out. I usually have some reservations about Indian food, but I enjoyed everything I was served, from the Burmese dumpling entree, to the range of main courses that we shared. The food was superbly presented, cooked to perfection, and timely. All six of us enjoyed the food immensely. <br/><br/>However, it was not just the food that made the night an occasion to remember. The table service was first class, and we found the Burmese owner (Peggy?) enchanting. The acoustics were also good up on the mezzanine floor, and that counts for something for me, as I struggle to hear in noisy rooms. None of us had to yell to be heard.<br/><br/>All in all, good service, tasty food, very reasonable pricing, good ambience, and a delightful host. I can't recall a more enjoyable meal out

Delish. Wonderful meal for decent price. very friendly service. would definitely return when I'm in Melbourne next time

Love te food, very traditional and flavoursome.<br/>The manager Peggy is so attentive and sweet. Great find. Personable, caring staff. The restaurant hasn't got much atmosphere, like many other Indian restaurants, but don't let that fool you, really delicious meals.ove the chicken dumplings, butter chicken and naan!!

Amazing food and lovely owner!. I took my boyfriend here when he was visiting me in Melbourne, after hearing about it through Urbanspoon. This restaurant is amazing, Peggy is lovely and really looked after us. My boyfriend is Burmese and said this was the best food he had tasted. We had the traditional dish Mohinga, which we shared as a starter, this was amazing! I had a goan fish curry for main, which Peggy adapted into a Burmese fish curry for me. The mains were delicious and too and we'll definitely be back. Already recommending to friends! :)

Finally! !. We went here last night, and it was delicious! Goat curry, Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala, Saffron rice and Garlic Naan were all sooo good. Great service, good prices, quick and Peggy goes out of her way to make you feel welcome, even taking our son for a walk when he was getting grouchy and wanted a cuddle! Will definitely be bacl

Friendly staff and great food. We had a celebratory dinner with 30 guests last weekend at Carlton curry house and Peggy and the staff were great. Really helpful in organising the evening and served up 3 delicious courses. Highly recommended.

The went to carlton curry house for the first time two weeks ago and had an exceptionally good night. Don't be put off by the name of the food is very very good. Recommend the duck curry as a must. The staff were a little bit pushy at tennis but soon relaxed. Highly recommended.

" Excellent service & delicious food" cant you go wrong in any of the dishes that you order. Each one of them has a unique flavour that leaves you satisfied! Amazing & hearty flavours.. Highly recommended! Reasonable price speciallly the set menu ( banquet ) <br/>Peggy was a great host & def will come back.<br/>

Good for Groups. Lovely warm friendly place for a small group banquet. We were upstairs near the window, looking out at last autumn leaves and Melbourne skyline. If you have travelled in asia and enjoyed the food, you will appreciate different smells and tastes that the Burmese owner blends together in her menu. The green pea & onion served on Naan, the beetroot relish, green tomato salad and goat curry, were all very good. My partner thought the curry was too mild, but as we were in a group, that was an individual taste. The use of crushed nuts in many of the dishes was delicious.
J
I'm not a big curry fan (it always leaves me wayy too full and feeling a little ill), we tried a few dishes here and most of them tasted like nondescript curries except for the lamb curry which was yumtastic and tasty and tender. The wait staff here were so so lovely. The ambience is a zero and you have to deal with the horror of Lygon St and zero street parking.
Theglutenfreewheeler
Excellent service, above and beyond to make our night special!. I have nothing but praise for our dinner at Carlton Curry House. I'd organised a big group dinner to celebrate a birthday, and Peggy worked with me to create a set menu that suited everyone, including accommodating different dietary requirements (vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free). She even made a special cake to cut!<br/>I will definitely be back, and recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a tasty meal, particularly if you have dietary requirements - the gluten free naan is really good!

Service with a smile.. Service was great, very sweet, attentive, friendly staff. Went out of their way to accommodate with a baby seat and pram. <br/>We ordered the banquet dish for 4 people. Every dish was nice, for me the stand outs from the banquet included.<br/>Entree samosa and tandoori chicken<br/>Raita sauce and butter chicken.<br/> We received sago pudding insteAd of /Gulab Jamun for dessert. Not sure why? Only realised after leaving and was sad. The amount of food was good everyone left very full but it wasn't too much that the table was left full with food. Ordered the food hot and it was not overpowering and quite nicely balanced. Glass of wine was served in individual mini bottles so it's fresh :) enjoy

BEST Indian in Melbourne. My partner and I go to Peggys at least twice a month. We absolutely LOVE it. everything about the food is spot on. <br/>We have tried all of the entrees which are devine, the butter chicken is to die for along with the veg curry (subzi) which is delicious. <br/>The garlic bread is great, never too oily and Peggys homemade raita tip is beautiful and don’t forget to try the mango lassi there too. cannot recommend highly enough. Just great. The best in Melbourne. Thanks Peggy, Bernice and Richard

Amazingly flavorsome curries!! The chicken and beef vindaloos are to die for, as is the garlic naan. Service is exemplary and the staff is very friendly.

Great food, great service. Decided to try this place last night in favour of my regular Indian haunt - I was not disappointed! Food is fantastic, great flavour, good menu. Chicken Saagwala was the best I've ever had, and the goat curry was beautiful, tender and flavoursome. Naan and roti were great, and not greasy like some other restaurants. Give the momos (nepalese dumplings) a shot, you won't be disappointed! <br/>Prices are very reasonable as well, and it was great to see that the service matched the food - all the staff were genuinely happy to have us and made us feel really welcome. Service was fast but not rushed. All in all, a great experience and our new favourite curry house!!

Delicious food. Excellent service. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely be coming back. My only criticism is that the lighting was a little harsh for this restaurant. Replacing the globes with a warmer colour will give the restaurant a more inviting and intimate look.

So happy to have found this gem of a restaurant. Outstanding food, including some new Burmese dishes on the menu. Delicious samosas!! And the service makes you feel like family. We'll be back!

Great authentic Burmese food. I just came back from 5 months in Burma and was really interested to see what Burmese food (which is not well-known) in Melbourne would be like. I was very impressed. The curries we ordered were all great, as was the mango desert. Some of us were vegetarian/vegan and one was glucose-intolerant, but the owner was totally on top of it and the selection was pretty extensive. <br/><br/>I asked the owner (a woman named Peggy) if she made Lah Pe, a famous Burmese salad made out of pickled tealeaves which I've never seen out side of Burma. It wasn't on the menu, but when I asked she made it for us and seemed very pleased that we knew what it was. Suffice to say, the Lah Pe was exactly like what you get in Burma - pickled tealeaves sound weird at first, but once you try them you get hooked pretty quickly.<br/><br/>The menu seems more Indian, but if you ask for more Burmese options, the owner will roll them out for you. I will definitely be coming back. Strongly recommended!
Christy
Great eat! Yummy Burmese food and a great array of healthy/diverse options-gluten free bread, vegan etc. The staff and owner are great! Very warm and hospitable people!! <br/>A visit to this hole in the wall, good find is a must while in Melbourne!

Being a vegan can sometimes become complicated in meat restaurants...we had a table booked for 10 on valentines day. Peggy, who I'd assume is the manager, took care of us. We did not have to ask a thing. Kudos to ppl that understand dietary needs...food was awesome, we got the banquet. ..30$ each, it kept us busy eating, and there was plenty of food..The spicy cauliflower was my favorite, and the rice pudding mango dessert was awesome as well!! Thanks to the staff who really took good care of us!!!

Great Place for Celebrations. For my son Charlie's 1st Birthday I was looking for an Indian restaurant to accommodate 18 of our friends and family. So I rang around 5 Indian restaurants in Melbourne all of who were very unhelpful on the phone. I rang Carlton Curry House and spoke with Peggy and she straightaway put me at ease, I met with her the next day, we discussed the banquet menu, tried the delicious meals and my party was organised. Peggy had a staff especially to look after our table. She went the extra mile for our guests which was extremely nice of her. All my guests enjoyed their meals and we had a great 1st Birthday for my son. No mess to clean up, great indian food and exceptional service is what I wanted and we got from Carlton Curry House. Thanks Peggy and staff.

Very enjoyable group dinner here. It was excellent value.

I've been to Carlton Curry House twice so far and I LOVE it!!! The food is one of the best tasting Indian foods I've had, and the service is great! Peggy, the owner, is such a lovely woman and tries to do anything to make her customers happy. I came last night with a group of family and friends as a last outing before I get married, and she treated me so well! She brought extra hot beef vindaloo just for me, and later got a specially made chilli naan made for me because she knew how much I love chilli. So sweet!! We were seated upstairs which is really comfortable and private. I definitely recommend this lovely restaurant to all Indian food lovers!

Dined here and were surprised it was empty. Food was average as the paneer curry was delicious but the dal wasn't. The interior and ambience is a tad dated but we didn't mind. Overall 6/10. Can use entertainment card for 25% discount.

Fantastic Indian restaurant with some authentic Burmese dishes. <br/>We had Mon Hin Ga - a traditional Burmese Noodle soup and also Eggplant with rocket salad which are both very healthy and delicious!!!!<br/>Highly recommended!!!

Consistently delish. I have lived in Carlton for two years, the Carlton Curry House has always provided yummy food and quick, friendly service. Love the butter chicken.

Very good followup to an initially disappointing experience. I have left my original review below in the interests of disclosure<br/><br/>following my review (below) Peggy from CCH made contact to discuss my experience - straight away i was impressed - i've never had this sort of followup from a restaurant and only rarely from large hotels<br/><br/>Peggy apologised and offered me a replacement meal - i thought this was a very generous offer and opted to have the lamb korma again to see if there would be a difference - peggy also recommended that i try some tandoori mushroom - okay!<br/><br/>so - it seems the recommendations from my friends were correct as the replacement meal was great - such a rich, tender korma, perfect garlic butter naan and who knew that tandoori mushrooms could be so fabulous - i'm a total convert<br/><br/>so thank you peggy for the excellent meal and the intro to tandoori mushrooms<br/><br/>INITIAL REVIEW<br/><br/>had heard great things about CCH but found my meal experience with them disappointing - tough lamb dish, very ordinary tandoor platter and greasy doughy bread - they did manage to delivery my order very promptly

Absolutely wonderful experience! Had birthday party on the weekend and the service, food and atmosphere was amazing! A must try for curry in melbourne! Best I've had yet in aus! Also like to say a great big thank u to Peggy who took care of us and made the night that extra bit special! :)

Great venue for private function and curry. We had a birthday party upstairs in the private room on Saturday night. Peggy the owner was fantastic and very accommodating. The curries were very tasty and they had a karaoke machine there to have some fun with. Will be going back!!!

A curry for a special occasion. Have known Peggy at CCH for the last 5 years and always have enjoyed he curries here. They are authentic Indian and does justice to my Indian palate. Celebrated my 55th birthday with the family and enjoyed the chiil fish, goat curry, Burmese chicken...Peggy even threw in some frreebies...sago pudding, and alu tiki to go with the meal. Worth visiting if you like good curries!

Good food, great taste. We recently booked Carlton Curry house for our daughter's first birthday. The service was good, the food tasted great. The owner/manager and the staffs were very helpful. The guests were happy too. I would recommend this place for any small sized party. I will give it 4 out of 5.

The food was so yummy and the staff were so lovely they even through in complimentary dish for us to try. Will definitely come back!!

Long time favourite. I have loved Peggy and her food for a long time. I recently came to the restaurant with a friend who is vegetarian, who declared it to be 'the best Indian food I have tasted'; I have had a similar experience with meat lovers. Peggy and her staff are warm, friendly and attentive. The menu retains all the Indian favourites and is extending into Peggy's native Burmese cuisine as well as gluten-free and low fat options. It is well priced, has a good wine selection if you don't want to bring your own, and the desserts . . . just come - you'll love it

Same as remembered. It has been a few years since I've been back to the Carlton Curry House. There are a few more Asian competitors within the same strip of resturants, but this place still holds a good wrap, and the quaility of food is just as good as I remember they served a few years before. The place is still cosy with nice table settings with excellent service. The hot curry is nice and spicy. If you are not prepared for the hot spicyness, they can prepare the curry more mild, but you best request much much more mild.

The best Indian Restaurant in Melbourne. This is our favourite Indian Restaurant in Melbourne. We dine in the Carlton Curry House regularly and enjoy the delicious Indian Food served with bit of smile from all the staff. Peggy, the chef/owner of the restaurant is very friendly and pays equal attention to all her customers. <br/><br/>Even though this place looks small to organise functions / parties; we find the upstairs room good venue to organise small to mid sized parties.<br/><br/>We will be back soon.

This is my partners and my favouite Indian resurant. The food is amazing and we love the healthy options. Also we find the curries to have a lot less oil and a lot more better for the waist line.

Excellent Indian. I strongly recommend the Carlton Curry House, one of the best Indian restaurants in Melbourne, for it's authenticity and imagination. Try the tandoori mushrooms or the kulfi in additiion to the currys. As other reviewers noted, Peggy and her staff are delightful!

As good as ever!. Had missed a few weeks at Carlton Curry House due to other commitments but had the pleasure of dining there again on Saturday. As always the food was amazing and service exceptional. If you haven't tried it already you don't know what you're missing. I'm loath to recommend any particular dish as I've tried so many and they're all fantastic and incredible value for money!<br/><br/><br/>-----21 Nov, 2012-----<br/><br/>Best Curries in Melbourne. I am a regular at carlton Curry House and can't recommend it highly enough. Chef and owner Peggy goes out of her way to make every occassion an absolute delight. The food is exceptional and every requirement catered for. The food can be as hot or mild as you'd like it to be and dietary requirements are no problem (I often go with a coeliac anda somebody with fructose intolerance - they even have gluten free naan). If you try it once, like us, you'll be a regular diner!

I was very impressed with this place. The food was of an excellent standard and the service was friendly and personal. When we asked for extras while eating our mains, they came quickly. I look forward to returning.

Good for a group booking!. We had a group booking here recently (12 of us) and were very happy with the customer service shown by Peggy and the waitress. Peggy made sure all our dietary requirements were fulfilled (a vegetarian, others like it mild, others like it spicy!) when ordering the banquet meal. So for $33 we had some nibblies, three entrees, three mains, rice, naan bread and dessert. It was very filling and there was plenty to eat. <br/>The function room upstairs was perfect for our group and we had the privacy we needed for a great night out.<br/>We arrived at 6.30pm and didn't leave until close to 11pm on a Friday night. <br/>Highly recommended.

Awful Experience and Oily Food!!!!!. We gave a try to the Carlton Curry House. All i can say is we had an awful experience. The food are really oily and all look the same. We cannot even distinguish between lamb and beef as they taste the same to us. We will never ever order from them again..

A Caring Curry House. Peggy at Carlton Curry House really cares about your dining experience. After we had an unfortunate 'crash and burn' experience at a related curry house, Peggy went all out to ensure that we dined well. She delivered and we enjoyed:<br/>- vegetarian samosas that were still crispy after their trip<br/>- tofu vindaloo with a substantial tomato based veg sauce that had lots of bite (by request)<br/>- aloo gobi with big pieces of cauli and potato that were just right - not disintegrated into the herb flecked tomato sauce, and <br/>- kadai chicken - another spicy tomato based sauce with good sized pieces of tandoori chicken., and perfectly cooked rice as accompaniment.<br/><br/>It's probably tricky to keep the texture of garlic naan perfect during delivery, but these were fine - nice and light with plenty of garlic. We would recommend the Carlton Curry House to people who want an Indian dinner that is light on oil, cream and butter and heavy on genuine care for their customers.

Best Indian Food In Town. I've been here over a half dozen times, and am yet to be disappointed with the food. As mentioned by many, the butter chicken is the clear standout in their dishes - and take that from someone who has tried the dish from far too many restaurants around town! If you're having any curry, make sure it's accompanied by the delicious garlic naan - another one of the standouts of this restaurant. It's served hot, crispy with just the right amount of garlic so that it's not overpowered by that strong flavour. Nothing compares with the naan at this restaurant!<br/><br/>Although there may be some areas of improvement in the service and ambience of the restaurant, if it's great food you're after, then you won't be disappointed!<br/><br/>P.S. The price point of this restaurant may be a little higher than those nearby (or next door!) but it's still a cheap for the meal and serving sizes that you get. If you're around on a Thursday/Friday lunchtime there is also a lunch special - curry of your choice and rice for $10.50. Hard to beat that from a price perspective!

Absolutely the best curry house in Melbourne. All the food is extremely well prepared and best of all, incredibly palatable. I grew up eating a lot of Asian foods, and would regularly dine at the original, highly acclaimed Tandoor, which has since closed down. The food at Carlton curry house rivals, if not exceeds the standards that I have come to expect. In the past, I continually searched for great Indian restaraunts and even left Camberwell's bustling Tandoori den a little dissapointed. The search ended once I discovered this gem. Peggy and her staff especially know how to make a delicious butter chicken. I honestly couldn't recommend the food enough. The service is also exceptional and staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall, Carlton Curry House is a winner.

Something for everyone 10/10. When we are in Melb the kids always insist we go to visit Peggy at the Carlton Curry House. They always have the same thing. The amazing Butter Chicken and Lamb Rogan Josh. Last night I tried the new promo 'Sub-300Calorie meal' as I just finished Michelle Bridges 12wbt. I had the Grilled Chicken Tikka with a Giant Salad and brown rice. It was delicious!!

Cold Curry. Ordered the butter chicken and beef korma, then the waitress asked if we'd like any naan, or starters because the chefs were busy with take-away orders and deliveries, and our meals would be a while. Food came out the curries were below average, cold and small portions. Not enjoyable. 4/10 stars.
