Review Gogimatcha - Melbourne

Mart
Very good service. There is always a queue outside but we booked at 7pm and went to the front of the line and was seated immediately. Good quality meat and very quick service. The waiter remembered our entire order without a paper and pen! This was quite impressive as we ordered a lot! No time limit on seating. Soju was priced reasonably. Will be back !

A classic example of no matter where you eat, Korean BBQ never disappoints. We enjoyed our time there and the food, however, will probably not go back. Varieties of condiments offered and refillings are not free, usually, at other places it is. We were told when we sat at the table that on weekends there is a time limit of 1.5hours, found it extremely weird because the time limit usually applies to buffets. I think they should have clarified it over the phone when we booked. Catching up with friends after so long and 1.5 hours is not enough. We were politely reminded by staff 15 minutes prior that our time is almost up and better hurry up. On our way out we saw people waiting in line to be seated and it was a house full, so it somehow explains the time limit. The last 15minutes, after all, were actually not too bad as the portions of meat given were too less and if you just focus on eating, dinner could be finished in only first 30 minutes. We ordered a set menu: Chilli marinated chicken, marinated Lamb rib, marinated pork, and kimchi stew for $75. The portion was fair enough considering it was a set menu. $19 for those tiny 4 prawns, highly disappointed. Japchae was nice.

I found the price extremely high for the portion of the food. We got the beef BBQ pack which did not have enough meat for 2. The meat was dry, not juicy and didn't taste like anything. There are much better Korean BBQ places in the CBD with much better value for money. This place is a rip-off in my opinion. I would not come back.

Had a lovely dinner here for Korean BBQ. We ordered one of the sets for 4, with beef, beef rib, pork and soy chicken and bulgogi hot pot. The bulgogi hot pot is a must order. The slightly sweet meat goes very well with the soup and sweet potato noodles. We also got the seafood pancake and had drinks. Rice wine and soju. The bill was $236 for 4, which was reasonable considering the amount of food we had. We rolled out so full!

Excellent quality at a standard price that we would expect for most CBD located Korean BBQ restaurants. Good selection of side dishes. The atmosphere is nice, venue is clean. Parking nearby is not great. Overall a good experience.

Yummy and will go again for others foods 😋 in their menu's. Lot of side dishes too ❤️

Very busy Korean bbq place within Melbourne CBD. Food was fantastic with lots of choices, great flavours and prompt services. A great location to hang out with friends for all occasions.

Superb authentic Korean taste, bbq at its best, and price? $$! Love it! Must try😊

Definitely won’t come back.
Our table were not served properly. The waitress put the meat on the grill but then she left and never come back until the meat burnt.
The waitress were very ignorant.
Worst Korean bbq restaurant I have ever been in Melbourne.

We came here for our last meal before Melbourne was locked down again. We were running a bit late but the staff were very accommodating and allowed us to stay past 3pm (closing time).

We ordered the beef set with the kimchi pork stew and added a side of marinated pork as well as the soy garlic fried chicken. All of the food was delicious! We loved the variety of side dishes - there aren't many Korean BBQ restaurants that offer this much variety and they were all really nice to try. The meat was so tender and they were quite generous portions as well. The fried chicken was also so tender and flavourful! My friend and I both agreed that the kimchi stew was the best we've ever had, it was really flavourful and had the perfect amount of spice and paired delightfully with a side of rice.

We left feeling very full and satisfied. It only cost $60 each as well, which we thought was very reasonable for the amount of food we got! We will definitely be back!

Loved the extensive meat selection on the menu here. Various and generous serving of condiments to go with the bbq which I loved.

Staff are very friendly and helpful!
We went with a meal set which provided all sorts of meat and hotpot and it surely satisfied all 3 of us! Really loved the beef!

4.0 Very Good

We arrived at 6pm and it was still relatively quiet, as a result we had excellent table service throughout the night and didn’t do the cooking once.

The spread of banchan is impressive, 11 small plates to pick at between bites. My favourites were the pickles of radish and onion, pa muchim (scallion salad) and of course kimchi.

Main focus was KBBQ where they use a mixture of gas and coal to impart on the meat. They used a thin mesh for the beef cube roll (scotch fillet) which is the best cut we had that night with its high content of fat, just a small dab of salt and you’re good to go. We also had unseasoned ox tongue which had a nice chew to it and plain pork belly, I do wish that we were given more lettuce (and larger ones) and condiments (such as garlic and chilli) for our ssam (wraps).

The marinated beef short ribs and marinated pork had a similar flavour profile, sweet and salty. Went well with the plain rice as the flavours were quite strong. It may have been better if they put the pork in a chilli marinade to give the meal set more variance.

We also shared some bu dae tang which I’m guessing is Korean army stew which consisted of a lot processed and packaged items such as spam, sausages, baked beans, ramen and tasty cheese. The ramen and cheese combo always delivers and I’m tempted to start doing this at home to my Shin Ramen! We did leave it on boil for quite awhile and it did get a little saltier than intended, oops.

A few things I’d tweak as mentioned above but overall a solid KBBQ spot. I left with barely any BBQ smell on my clothes so that was a bonus. If you want exceptional service, come early!

It was great to spend my NYE dinner here. They offered variety of sets and individual items at a reasonable price.

However, I was a bit annoyed with their booking system. I called for dinner reservation for 7 people at 8pm and the restaurant has confirmed. But, when I got there I was asked to wait for 30 minutes because apparently they didn’t have seats ready for us.

Despite that, it was a pleasant dinner and the food was very delicious. Therefore I’ll still give 4 stars rating. I will probably be back when I crave for korean bbq.

I tried their delicious galbitang and bulgogi for lunch menu today. Very well prepared side dished and prompt, kind service as always. Would have been much more lovelier if the amount of avalone was bit more generous.

Absolutely love the menu, service some interesting choices that i haven’t yet seen at other Korean bbq places, the sweet and spicy crabs and the pork intestine, very surprised they have that on the menu, lots of complimentary small dishes, very delicious, would definitely revisit.
Icy
overall the favor is great. Lots of small dishes. I’ve been looking for intestine food for a long time. This place is really great to enjoy the barbecue flavor of it.

Best Korean BBQ Ever!
Flying Forward
Points for: marinated crab, loads of side dishes, decent value.
One of the newer Korean BBQs in town, and also one of the few places that will have marinated raw crab (what a treat!).
The restaurant provides a good number of side dishes and a good variety as well.
GaeJang – fresh sections of crab marinated in a sweet spicy sauce. The crab meat has slightly firmed up and has a great seafood flavour.
Chilled Spicy Buckwheat Noodles – nice chew on the noodles and the sauce is a similar sweet/spicy mixture.
Pork Belly BBQ – the pork belly was sliced a decent thickness and the rind cut off.
The BBQ itself is a mixure of charcoal assisted with gas flame, so you still get the smokey flavours.
One downside is the ventilation – even though there are exhausts, they aren’t that strong, so if you have a room full of BBQs going, you’re going to going to have it in your clothes and hair for a while.
Then again, it’s Korean BBQ and kind of expected.
Quite enjoyed dining here, I came two nights in a row!

love the side dishes and beef short ribs :)

GogiMatcha now has very good offer for 2beers and 1soju set for only $20. Besides the BBQ pork intestine is very fresh and good taste. The waitress will serve you for the BBQ so the thing you need to do is enjoy your meal!

The flood of positive reviews are interesting...

Ordered:
🥩 Set E: thinly sliced pork belly, marinated pork, beef intercostal, thinly sliced beef belly, thinly sliced beef brisket, bu dae tang (budae jjigae/Korean sausage stew), 4 bowls of rice ($139.00)
🥩 Thinly sliced beef tongue ($21.00)
🍥 Teok Bok Ki: stir fried rice cake, fish cake and vegetable with chilli sauce ($18.00)

Review:
Let's start on the positives.
1. Amazing quantity for the portions given. A full sized bu dae tang is provided in SET E which is absolutely ridiculous! All 5 people were pretty much all food coma'ed out.
2. The staff were really diligent in helping us cook the meat and in changing the grill when it darkened. Really appreciated it!

The things that didn't make GogiMatcha a 5:
1. The place had probably the worst ventilation I've seen. With the competition in Melbourne, walking out smelling like kbbq is a big no.
2. Mismanagement of food timings. I've never been given a bowl of rice close to the end of my meal... when the meat has been grilled and devoured. We had to prompt them for our rice as well lol. No communications was made.
They also didn't tell us that the bean sprouts ran out. Waiting around for it was not great - until we prompted them for it.

Overall, GogiMatcha has capacity to take a large booking and fill you up but at the expense of poor ventilation and lack of communication about your food status.

Good selection of meat. Very nice service. I have come back here 4 times in a month.

They have soju & beer combo deals for only $18. One bottle of soju and two bottles of beer.

Super in love with the fresh crabs!

Love going to this place (at least once a month with the wife), really quality food and service. Staff are always friendly and will run the grilling for you if you want them to. The seafood pancake is a staple, as well as the beef short ribs (no need to go for the Wagyu, the regular options i already find good). Also, their banchan's variety is awesome 😍 I think price is pretty fair too, a bit more affordable than the more prominent K-BBQ places in the CBD.
