Vinh's was quiet last night, which was good for a big family group. We loved Vinh's Spring Rolls, more substantial than your usual spring rolls. We also enjoy the fried chicken ribs & the vegetable/bean curd hot pot. The salt & pepper calamari was a bit tough and battered. The vietnamese pancake was ok but not my favourite. No dessert available. Nonetheless, great value for money.
Such a lovely little find will be back
My score 3.75 stars (avge of 2 reviews). J and I had lunch here on Fri 19th of July. Service was good – staff nice. Free tea was good.
10 Pan-fried vego dumplings ($8) – A new item on menu – they were good. Flat ones, lightly pan fried, quite different, mushroom and cabbage filling plus something else? Also a very nice and interesting sauce with it - soyish, sl sweet, chillied. Would have again!
Vego claypot rice with chilli and lemongrass (about $12) – A repeat dish, but not spicy at all and lemongrass was mild – flavours much better first time. Lots of veg, more tofu this time. Added a bit of chilli oil to help – theirs is slightly different to most we’ve had (more ground up?) and VERY spicy!
Salt and pepper calamari ($15.80) - Hoods rather than tentacles. Nice crispy fried vermicelli-type noodles, plus S and P veg (bits and bobs). Quite nice – we dipped them in the dumpling sauce to get more kick. Overall pretty good.
J & I also had lunch here 8 months ago (no photos).
Vinh’s Spring rolls special (2 for $6) > Just ok. They had chicken in them, so I had both of them. They were quite big, a bit oily, & some of the filling was escaping - dipping sauce was VERY sweet.
Prawn-meat stuffed eggplant, capsicum & bean curd Clay pot rice > Chock a block with prawn mince & apart from the eggplant/capsicum, it had quite a few other veg. Mince was very slightly “fishy”, black bean sauce could have been more intense, fresh coriander was distracting rather than integrated, rice had no crispy base.
Vegetable, chilli & lemongrass Clay pot rice > Overflowing with veg (J counted 11 diff types), this was great! Strong lemongrass flavour, yummy bean curd, good chilli heat, nice gravy. Only downside was same problem with the rice & a little more bean curd would have made it even better. Staff were nice. Overall pretty good & main meals very good value!
