Review Guzman Y Gomez - Hawthorn - Melbourne

Made an online order for a 12.30pm pick up. Staff had no record of our order so nothing was made when we arrived. Had to show them our online confirmation receipt/ order and they made it for us. Had to wait an extra 30 minutes. Burritos were good. Nacho fries were also good. Ordered extra guacamole for the Burrito bowl ($2 extra) and was only given a small portion. The corn chips also tasted a bit stale.

We had picked up orders through the web. I had an amazing experience at this franchise. The food was great, perfectly seasoned and šŸ² bowl serving is huge and filling nicely they also offer extra sauces. We had a spicy burrito bowl that was so delicious and mouth-watering. We understand they are very busy but they try to there best to satisfy all customers .

This is by far the worst gyg Iā€™ve gotten food from. Rude and inattentive staff and awful food. The vegetable bowl is basically a mixture of uncooked onion (lots of it) and uncooked red capsicum. The portion size is also very small. Avoid and go to another gyg or Zambrero.

Ordered through ubereats although the food was nice I was actually missing one item of food but was still charged for it. Hot chips were cold too. Probs better if I picked up my order.

Ordered just a standard quesadilla, and took over 25 minutes to make (9:46-10:13). The quesadilla was pretty dry when it eventually came too :/

Love the franchise and frequent this restaurant a lot but continuously find staff sitting around doing nothing (I get that people might be on their breaks but itā€™s a bad look) also not wearing caps or gloves when making food. Just had a bad experience when trying to order a promo on the board and pointing to it and calling it by name then waiting half an hour for it to be fixed. For the amount of staff being put on food should be made quicker and customer service should be alot easier to deal with

Fast and fresh. Love GYG! Hawthorn is my go to store. Only downside is that they donā€™t include cutlery in the bag every time. Again today I took my click and collect order and got to the park to have it but couldnā€™t, because no cutlery.

Ordered a buritto bowl with pan seared fish via Menulog. Fish was clearly raw and not opaque. No way of contacting them either. Called the restaurant and went straight to voicemail, voicemail was also full. First and last time I will be ordering here!

Iā€™ve had take away from Guzman y Gomez several times over the last few months.
I have had the pulled pork burrito and the slow cooked beef burrito. I prefer the slow cooked beef over the pork (the beef is a lot more flavoursome whereas the pork is a little bland). The burritos have lots of filling but I think they would be even better with more salsa.
I have also had nachos with slow cooked beef, which I really like. They are a generous serving size and are loaded with toppings. Iā€™ve also tried the spicy slow cooked beef which unfortunately isnā€™t as spicy as I expected.
The fries here are awesome - the seasoning is delicious.
Very affordable prices too.

Not bad..!
It was clean restaurant! There are plenty of choice of topping, Quick and Nice staffs! REASONABLE PRICE

Very unforgiving of new customers. When I was trying to order, the staff asked something "sour cream " something. I asked to confirm, "is it extra", the response was "yeah, that is why I asked sour cream or any extras".
Also, I asked for extra guacamole, I was given a portion of large nachos and guacamole along with my original other of nachos and some topping.
The menu is very confusing for new customers.

I'm a massive fan of Mexican food, but Guzman y Gomez is not as great as I would have liked. Unlike other places that serve Mexican, their burritos aren't as fresh as I would like and the chips were battered.
Mummy+Me Eats
We've ordered Guzman y Gomez a couple of times from Uber Eats and they've run late both times which also means meals were near cold on arrival.

There is a reasonable serving size and quite tasty as long as you're not expecting anything spectacular. I'm not rushing back anytime soon but I'm sure having it fresh in-store will be more enjoyable. Otherwise everyone who had a salad was happy with it. Personally, I still prefer Tex Mex Salsa if I were to have casual Mexican.

Fresh and delicious tacos and burritto every singke visit. All the protein are delicious, but my favourite is definitely the chicken extra spicy. Staffs are energetic and friendly.

3.5
Grabbed a couple of soft shell tacos via Uber eats today. Guzman y Gomez made me a slow cooked beef and a barramundi taco both spicy in no time at all and it was delivered to my workplace in under 20 minute over lunchtime. They were still nice and warm on arrival and the spicy heat was manageable for me. The slow cooked beef was harder to eat than the barramundi as it had a little bit of oil drip but was still my preferred option of the two I tried. Satisfied my Monday Mexican cravings.

šŸ“Location: Shop 1/674-680 Glenferrie Road,Hawthorn
šŸ–¼Ambience: Small space to dine in and was smoked with open kitchen in the centre due to heavy orders
šŸ‘ØšŸ»ā€šŸ³šŸ‘©šŸ»ā€šŸ³Service: Friendly Staffs
šŸŒ®šŸŒÆFood: It was my first time experience of having a Mexican Cuisine and they did not disappoint me. I had ordered a Spicy Beef Burrito which i expected to be really spicy but turned out to be no spice at all.
The taste was a little blank but the stuffing was perfectly cooked which had rice, kidney beans, beef which was wrapped in a tortilla.
āœ…Overall Experience:3/5 rating, will try more Mexican dishes and shall update.
The Brunchabout Diaries
First time I have had GYG and was pleasantly surprised! I got a mini enchilada with pulled pork. The pork was so flavoursome and the avocado on top was nice and tangy. For people who are not absolutely starving, I would definitely recommend getting a mini of any of the meals because I couldnā€™t even finish that!
Good Food Good Mood
I think thereā€™s going to be a lot of Guzman in my life over the next month as I attempt to lose some pesky overindulgence kilos. I think the burrito bowls are pretty healthy aside from maybe the corn chips they wedge into the container which I do try not to eat. I probably should just say no corn chips as inevitably I do tend to down them, I mean itā€™s just corn right? Freshly made and full of flavour you canā€™t really go wrong
Nomafoodic Chipineats
The Mini Burrito Bowl with pan fried barramundi is an amazing dish with great value, at only $8.50 you are well fed and nourished enough. Enjoy the sauces which you can add to your own pleasure. Only thing that needs improvement are the chopped coriander kept on the self service bar, it's brown most of the time.

I was looking for a quick brekkie. I was standing at the counter for more than 5 Minutes but I was ignored by 3 staff. At the very least, you should have just informed customers if we had to wait. Don't act like a cold robot.

Enchilada is simply mind blowing. I am happy gyg has mini dishes now. Spicy veg enchilada is my go-to. I think I could eat it every single day.
Honestfoodie
Convenient location, good food but average service. The staff who served us was kinda rude. The rating could have been improved with a better service.

Had a chicken burrito there and it was just full of rice. Were also very stingy wirh the salsa as well. Really can make something much better with an el paso kit at home.
Nutsandbolts
The reason I love GYG- Hawthorn is not necessarily to do with the food but the value. I suggest ordering a bowl with all the free extras. If you are ordering to take back home, grab some of their complimentary salsas and when home, whip up your own Pico de Gallo and Guac. Crumble Greek Feta or Queso Fresco over your meal and it will be elevated to a new level. I keep Pinto beans and chipotles and various Mexican herbs on hand to add to the bowl. Yum, yum!
I love this place. Amazing service and amazing food! My go to is the burrito which is delicious. Nachos are also very nice. However the chips could be improved.
@lukebMelb
Great lunch today.Ordered the burrito bowl with brown rice, chicken and added avocado. Fresh flavours, filling and reasonably cheap. First time trying guzman y gomez and i will return !
JJ Hews
In summary: an inconsistent product, stingy, way below value for money, cold.Ā

I've given this place multiple chances to prove me wrong. You can be assured your burrito will be 90% rice and beans and 10% any chosen meat. Size also seems to vary from day to day. Filling is rock cold, with the only warmth coming from the meat. Staff are apathetic and sour. Simply put, the joint looks the part but the food and experience as a whole leaves you underwhelmed and wishing you had just gotten a Double Quarter Pounder from down the road - which is at least consistent.

The girl at the reception made us wait even though there was no rush. Didn't even apologize for the wait. Did not thank after taking the order.

Would have given more stars, but the experience was horrible, I felt as if I made a mistake by coming here to eat.

Mexicano ā™„ļøā™„ļø it was just soo delicious to be here šŸ’‹spicy Chicken burrito bowl with queso was amazing. With nacho chip with a crisp. With vide varieties of other Mexican dishes
The Official Food Hunters
Had the loaded fries and a beef taco, average food.. to match the average service. Theyā€™re fast but recommend to go to Fonda across the road for better Mexican!
Dine And Dash
Came here for lunch by myself. I ordered the spicy chicken burrito bowl with guacamole. The chicken was cooked well but a bit cold. The serving was filling and I was very satisfied.

I thought it was slightly overpriced especially because of the ingredients they use. Customer service was good.
DineByNine
Food was good, customer service, everything was great. However would be good if they came ans asked how things were going. But still 5 stars!
George David Michaelides
Chicken burrito is the go here all other meats are inconsistent minus the beans out of the burrito to they are just filler and add no taste but add wateriness, we donā€™t want that! Then pour the green sauce down the burrito and enjoy
ToorakM
3/5 as I was feeling like something fast as my little one was at swimming lessons so that was right there so thatā€™s what I had

Chicken quesadillas were very fresh - mild my partner got. I got a spicy mini beef burrito but it wasnā€™t spicy one iota. I think people are scared to make things spicy these days.

Only gripe is gee the Hawthorn strip there is gross these days. Filthy grounds and not a nice place to sit out front. Definitely eat inside here or better - take away!

This is the worst GYG I have ever been to... in 3 states and as a regular Mexican fan who have lived in California, this is the pits... tonight's effort was the final straw as the beans in my burrito were old and had an aftertaste and smell to them, the rice was not seasoned at all and the chicken we cold, the salsa bland and full of tomato cores. They do some sauces you can take for your meal, the medium sauce, a Chippotle medium hot sauce appeared to be watered down and without flavour or substance, the Jalapeno sauce, a green more mild sauce was thick with an oily film on top of it.. My guess is that they haven't been changed for a while and the green sauce is near the bottom of the container and has never been stirred regularly and the medium sauce has been topped up and left to sit, again without stirring to en;sure a blend....there have some occasions that the medium sauce has been inedible due to it being a very hot sludge that wasn't looked after during its time in the container.... Never again!!

For a fast food chain this is really good! It's well priced, the food arrives quickly and most importantly it's pretty darn tasty! Good variety and all the tacos/quesadillas we had were yummy, much better than waiting 30mins across the road at Fonda for a table!
Mark Laughton
Very reasonably priced and pretty tasty too, this is one of the better GYGs. Made better by the service which was fantastic, the employee on the register was so helpful and did not stop smiling!
Eating With Ebony
Got the pulled pork enchiladas in mild and it was delicious and filling as well which is always good. The service was fast & friendly. I wasn't sure what to get and asked the lady at the register what was best out of the both and she gave me the correct answer definitely šŸ˜Š

Ordered a chicken quesadilla and also a hard taco. The quesadilla is the same size as the taco and my taco came in a soft shell (looked on the box to see if the guy in the counter heard wrongly but the order was correct). Store was too busy so I didn't go back and complain. Not worth your money imo

I'd like to start off by saying I love the Guzman Y Gomez Franchise. I've eaten at a number of the restaurants around Melbourne and have always been completely satisfied. I've also worked in hospitality and franchises myself and know that mistakes can happen, and it's rare that I find myself even considering to leave a review. Last night however, sadly there wasn't anything good to say about our experience,

My friend and I both went out to grab some dinner after both finishing work really late. Starving, we walked down Glenferrie Road looking for anything that was open, GYM being the best option. There was no one being served when we walked in, and there were two or three people working. Male staff member who served us was polite but not overly friendly, not really an issue. He took our order, and as I looked over the screen -habit after working in a franchise myself- everything was correct. So we hungrily sat down and waited for our food.
-I ordered a mild spice chicken burrito bowl with guac and sour cream, my friend ordered a spicy vegetarian Cali burrito. Ginger beer and Coke.
We sat out and waited, food was quick which was great, but that was the only good thing. We didn't get anything we ordered. I was given a burrito instead of a burrito bowl, and my friend received a vegetarian burrito. We were also still waiting on our drinks.
Round 2 - I brought this to the attention of the staff member. She took my burrito back and eventually brought me the bowl. The bowl that came out was missing the guac, so,
Round 3. I had to wait for another staff member to come out to have it added. In this time, my friend had started eating her burrito, and to her surprise, no chips inside, and the burrito was soggy and barely warm, and flavourless - I took a bite, no spice at all. My mild chicken had more flavour than her burrito,
I told the staff member the next time he came out that we still hadn't received our drinks and that my friend hadn't received what she ordered. He offered to take it back and replace it, but we were both tired and hungry and just asked for a bowl of chips instead.
Final Round - He brought out the drinks, then after waiting a while he eventually brought out some chips. Sadly another disappointment. The chips were brown, stale and tasted powdery because they were so dry. They had clearly been sitting for a while and re-fried. My friend also pointed out that my nacho chips on my bowl were also stale (I gave them to her as she couldn't finish her watery, cold and flavourless meal). She ate half her burrito, I ate the bowl, and we picked off a couple of chips but they were inedible.

We were both really unhappy with our meals. There was no reason for why there were so many mistakes - unless the staff were drunk, couldn't read what we had ordered or simply have not been trained properly.

I'm sorry to be leaving such a lengthy and horrible review, especially after all of the times I have enjoyed and craved GYG. We both understood that they were probably all tired still being at work so late, so room for error, but we left feeling so unsatisfied. Both grumbly after working in hospitality so long and not understanding so many mistakes (especially in such a popular area for eating out), and ultimately questioning why we didn't just eat at home.

I have been to the Hawthorn Guzman Y Gomez a couple of times and really enjoyed it. I have bought one full priced mini burrito and this time I came back for the $5 Cinco de Mayo special and free chips. The mini burrito was not good. It was lukewarm and soggy. I thought that since I have not written about this store I thought that I would give them another chance. That is on a busy day like today. The city stores were packed to the brim with workers.

Lucky to even get one star I tried placing order on the phone and making enquiry at the same time to get told by manager this is not the right time to call well if you don't want to take phone orders and are going to have a poor attitude like that with customers that help build your business why even be open cause you'll continue to loose business if that continues very poorly conducted and just shocked in the manner I was spoken to and phone hung up on me
Sylvia's POV
Another new addition to the string of food outlets along Glenferrie Road.
I ordered a salad with free range grilled chicken and $1 drink (student deal).
Chicken tasted very delicious with the accompanying veggies.
Spirited Stardust
We first tried them in Queensland & were absolutely hooked. So when we saw one opened in our neck of the woods we made our order online and picked it up.
I love the veggie fajita (no crema or cheese).
Notevenpicky
I loveeee GYG so much, but what is this?? Disappointment, the chicken in other stores is normally so juicy and each bite is filled with fresh and flavoursome deliciousness. But this store in hawthorn is barely acceptable, don't even get me started on the portions... it's literally HALF as much as what the fountain gate store serves. Also don't bother with the tacos it's boarder line inedible.
Food : Very satisfied with the spicy steak burrito that I chose. Good flavours and ingredients used were fresh and well balanced.
Service : Efficient over the counter service.
Ambience : Limited seating. Ended up at countertop seat. Nice Spanish tunes in the background.

I love this place. The food is fresh & delicious. The staff are lovely & really helpful. Except there is never enough of them! The three times I've been here they seem really short staffed. What is the deal? I waited over 20 mins for food. It was busy and there was only 2 of them working. Taking orders & cooking it. There was another guy waiting for his food & he was absolutely furious because he had waited ages. Not fun being around him. I knew it wasn't the staffs fault at all. The girls that work there are really awesome. Who ever owns this outlet needs to stop being such a tight ass & put more staff on during the busy times!

Great food, made fast, great prices! Like!
I've never had Colombian food before or been to Colombia so I guess the best way to describe the food is to compare it to Mexican Cuisine. Delicious!

New Mexican fast foodery on Glenferrie Road is almost directly opposite more established Fonda. G and G not anywhere near as large though and lacking some of the finery of both Fonda and Bay City Burritos. Place looks good and they have an extensive bar by the look of things. Margarita machine was out of order on my visit. Food options seem quite varied. The Burrito Bowl I ordered was edible enough but still came with plastic cutlery and was served in a polystyrene bowl. Real fast food takeaway culture despite appearances. At counter I was asked if I was member of frequent burrito eating club (or whatever) I said no and was offered membership which is some kind of app for your mobile which saves you something probably. I don't think I'll eat there enough to warrant the download. Enjoyed the Mexican Cola. There was some kind of complimentary condiments nearby that I ignored. Music: Loudish Latina rhythms. Place was fine but just a cheapness about the whole operation.

Not awful but was expecting to be served slow cooked beef when I ordered slow cooked beef but instead I got the tough/chewy/fatty beef option. The fatty stuff made me gag a little bit. The tomato had that 'old pre cut and then refrigerated' taste and the rice was over cooked.Ā Also, the sauce was mainly salt flavoured.

I know I'm being hypercritical because this is just another take-away place but I'll be sticking to Zambrero's for take away burritos. Sorry Guzzy n Gomez.
