At the awkward time of 330pm, we were trying to decide between lunch or dinner. Dunch? Lunner? It definitely wasn’t afternoon tea as we were starving and needed something substantial. So off we went to CHE for some chicken. Chicken is great anytime of the day, don’t you think?
Since CHE stands for chicken, helado and empanada, we ordered all three to try. First the chicken. It was very well-seasoned - smoky and peppery. The skin was very crisped, if not a bit too crisped. A bit dry here and there, but overall it was tasty.
Moving on the dulce de leche helado (ice cream). This was my favourite. Soft, creamy and surpassingly light. We added an alfajor and the crumbly cookie and gooey dulce de leche were a delightful contrast to the soft serve.
Now for the empanada. While the fillings were delicious, we found the pastry a bit too firm. Never had an authentic empanada so we can’t be sure if that was how it was supposed to be. It didn’t come cheap at $5 a piece.
Last but not least, we also ordered a pumpkin and feta salad, and this was my partner’s favourite. The herbal pesto had a refreshing punchy flavour, bringing life to the simple roasted pumpkin.
Warm and friendly service, coupled with a relaxed and casual atmosphere, we can see ourselves returning.
Stopped by for lunch on a rainy Melbourne day. No one else in this place, and couldn't understand why. The food was absolutely delicious and the selection of Argentinian beverages was great. Loved the Empanadas sooo good!!!
I really rate this place - we’ve been here a couple times since it opened. Really good, flavoursome chicken, hand cut chips and spicy mayo. Also addicted to empanadas now. Biiiiiiiit pricey but that’s ok we will live.
