Review The Alley - Melbourne

Max Gross
I had the Maple Bacon Burger. The aduzi bean burger was very mushy, but in an unexpectantly good way. Unlike the chewy sensation of a meat burger, this vegan burger had a unique mushiness to it. This was complemented by some delicious pickles. Although they were the dishes namesake, the maple bacon bits were overwhelmed by all the other elements, but when I removed the from the burger and tried them separately it was great. The whole burger was really flavoursome, especially the pickles. The sweet potato fries were really impressive. Perfectly fried, good amount of salt and skin on too. You can tell The Alley uses fresh oil. They were a bit on the pricey side, but it was an appropriate single serving size. All in all, The Alley is a great place for a tasty lunch for vegans and non-vegans alike.

The burger was okay, but the schnitzel was a bit too crunchy. The soft serve was on the physical menu but not served during winter due to “too much wastage”. The spoon I got was compostable, but I’m curious as to whether it just goes out in the trash with all the other disposable packaging. I asked for a glass of water and was given a plastic cup. And the piece of sticky date I got for $7 smelled delicious but was still cold on the inside when they heated it up for me, it tasted a bit strange and didn’t even come with any garnish. It would have been 10x better with even a dollop of coconut cream. The staff (including the owner) were yelling to each other from the back of the kitchen to the till. That and the fake plants definitely put a dampener on an otherwise cute venue :( Keen to try and support any vegan venue but hoping this one can manage to iron out its’ kinks.

One of the joys in life is discovering a great new restaurant! I believe I will be spending copious amounts of time and money at this place.

Vegan eatery serving burgers, chips and assorted other items. I ordered the maple bacon burger which was quite enjoyable although pickles remind me of cheeseburgers so I was very aware that I wasn't eating meat. My friends ordered the Hawaiian burger and both really liked it. They also sweet potato chips which were baked not fried which I was delighted with. They also have a selection of sweet chilled desserts. I tried the chocolate mousse (again vegan and also refined sugar free). It was really nice (but I should have kept the second half for later. The Alley had a great vibe, we enjoyed our food and all agreed we'd go again.

This place suits herbivores. We came here for a work lunch as the birthday girl is vegetarian. The carnivorous amongst us had to fight their instincts though. So great to see fast food that is healthy and wholesome. Quick service and my Mexican taco bowl was tasty while my colleagues enjoyed their burgers, soup and salads. The trouble with eating leaves for lunch though is that we were hungry by 3.30/4pm. Time to go hunt for some healthy snacks.

This is a fabulous addition to the growing list of quality vegan establishments in Melbourne. With a varied breakfast menu, plus a main menu which includes burgers, pasta, salads and smoothies there is lots of variety. I had a Mac 'n' cheese plus potato wedges, both of which were very tasty and fresh. Definately plan to return soon to try out the burgers.

UPDATE: Second visit not impressive at all! Mac & cheese was 'meh' at best and $12 for the 'large' which is a tiny portion for the price. Got my wedges/fries order wrong and I paid almost $24 for a few sweet potato fries, completely underwhelming small serve of M&C and a coffee. That's extortionate and I'm being polite. The music was loud pop and it was not a pleasant eating experience at all. Not going back. Wouldn't recommend. There is some serious sorcery going on with those potato wedges with 'parmesan' & crunchy kale! I'll go back for a vat full of those any day! Overall experience was good. My Mi-So Hungry burger was nice, but not a very social food with too much runny sauce going on to make it comfortable or pleasant to eat. The drip factor was high which makes for a bit of a soggy mess when your burger comes sideways in paper & you don't go at it immediately. The tastes were ok. The coffee is good & the service was pleasant. My lunch mate had the maple burger & a beer & liked it. As far as ambience goes, we should have sat inside which is nicely appointed, albeit noisy when the counter queue grows. The outdoor tables were just a little bit too 'well worn' & scruffy looking to justify a $13 burger for what is really a takeaway cafe. BUT - I will go back for those wedges & give the Mac & Cheese a try one of these days. Massive props for being an all vegan eatery 👍🏻

Food is super tasty but overpriced. Avoid coming here on my lunch breaks solely because of the price. Ordered the kelp salad ($12.95). It came out with one of the ingredients missing that is listed in the menu. When queried I was told it's not an ingredient but they were happy to add it?! After adding it, was told again that it's not an ingredient. Um... look at the board above your head!! Awkward! Think I will go back to my $6 salad sandwiches.

Wow this place is amazing I wish I lived next door to here, because I'd be buying my burgers non stop from here, they offer an array of options for all types. Had the avacado smash and it was so delicious and not so heavy. Service was excellent the staff simply "serve with a smile". I'll be back with bells on.

Came for lunch the other day -as a vegan was keen to try this place out - ordered the signature macro bowl which was just okay - the dressing was nice but hardly any of it and needed some other more interesting elements in it as bit bland/boring -love the concept and like to support it but won't be rushing back based on lunch experience -also food comes in takeaway container/ cutlery even when ordering to eat in - whilst it's positive that containers are bio-degradeable i still prefer real bowl and cutlery when eating in. Biodegradable containers/packaging still take energy to produce and if they go into plastic bin liner then it's not really biodegradable.

Visited with a friend from overseas, food is ok but what seemed like the manager was very rude to me and her staff which really turned me off

3.5
Food : Beet steak burger. It’s hard to make veg burgers tasty and this is no exception. Well presented with fresh ingredients, nice soft bun but pretty uninteresting to eat. Fairly small burger so would need a side to be satisfied.
Service : Quick and no nonsense
Ambience : Spacey area, pop tunes playing with volume up.
Verdict : Great joint for vegos. Maybe Less so for the rest of us.
I love this place. They have the best macaroni and cheese you could ask for plus great salads and desserts. It’s a funky and fresh cafe with really nice staff. You leave feeling healthy and satisfied!

Such a cool funky place well styled and a great menu. A vegan menu that gave you options and they were good options. Great flavour indeed and generious portion size.

I just had the maple bacon burger by uber eats . It was good to be vegan . I liked it . Very fresh and tasty. Sweet potatoes fries...simply delicious.

It seems to me that the alley is cutting costs at every corner and trying to price their food as high as possible. Usually their servings are far too small, considering what you pay for them. The last straw for me was when I ordered the kelp noodle salad today and got a huge bowl of lettuce with a tiny handful of kelp noodles on top. I was expecting the salad to be mostly kelp noodles. I find most of their food too salty and to have an artificial quality to it, and most of it seems to be pre-made from packages and not fresh. I also dislike the fact that their food is served in takeaway containers when you eat in.

Absolutely delicious and very friendly service.
I would definitely recommend and we can’t wait to come back.
We ordered the bacon cheeseburger and the eggplant.
They were both incredible but the cheeseburger had the lead.
Finished it off with a slice of key lime pie to share with my hubby and presto.

Super awesome vegan food. All fresh and healthy. The baked potato fries are the best baked chips I’ve ever had. Super delicious. Can’t wait to try more stuff 💜

We went on a weekend, and much of the food (all desserts except cookies, soft serve – despite having a sign out the front saying "daily ice-cream flavour" or something to that effect) wasn't available. We were told milkshakes had been permanently removed from the menu, despite still being on all the menus, which could have been quickly remedied with a pen. Was also told to "come back to the counter later" to find out if the soft-serve was working despite the fact that there were only one or two other diners there, and when I did, was told that I should try a Wednesday or Thursday, because it was usually working then. Food was expensive ("large" mac n cheese $11 not main-meal-sized; $7 wedges small, not great, and actually fries). The food was okay, average at best. Atmosphere was fine but doesn't make up for average food, below average service, a number of items being (apparently consistently) unavailable, and high pricing. There are many great vegan joints in Melb and this one was thoroughly underwhelming.
(We had mac n cheese, nacho bowls, "wedges", maple bacon burger, and cheeseburger. Coffee scrolls, milkshakes, and soft serve were also ordered as advertised on the menu, but unavailable.)

A shop I never thought I would be standing in... couldn't be further from a Vegan and that's certainly not changing was just having an acai bowl and another time a smoothie. The acai bowl was quite good, decent size and good fruit/granola on top... berry smoothie was ok nothing special and fairly small which was disappointing. Both times I went in it took absolutely forever so for that I'll be back to nutrition bar going forward

Upmarket "fast food" vibe (think Fonda, Burger Project), with all veggie menu. I have eggplant burger with wedges, both were pretty good, albeit pricey for a midweek lunch @ $20. I wouldn't have been satisfied with the burger alone. Good range of burgers and salads. Smoothies and weird coffees (chia, matcha etc). They have a small range of beers and healthy soft drinks.

For a dedicated meat eater, this is a nice alternative. And will give me points at home.

This place has delicious food, some of the best burgers around. Now thanks to The Alley I'm hooked on spaghetti squash. The staff who served us was a little bit rude though 😬

Ps. Brilliant place for instagram worthy food

5 stars definitely for the lovely design work on the walls, on the menu and on the paper underneath the food! Also eyed the lovely takeaway bag that I didn't get because I ate in. The food was bit smaller than I expected for the price. I shared the meatballs spaghetti and the mac n cheese, and also tried the soft serve (strawberry flavour of the day) and choco mousse. Everything was yum but every dish seemed just slightly underwhelming compared to the hype. The spaghetti was salty but the meatballs were a delight. The mac n cheese was not the best I've tasted (amongst the vegan mac n cheeses) as it wasn't cheesy enough - it was salty but not cheesy. The soft serve was more watery than creamy. The mousse's avocado taste (as it was made from an avocado base) showed. But still I enjoyed it!
TigerTreeEats
Awesome to eat at a place without having to worry about my dairy allergy (everything is vegan!) Chocolate soft serve was heavenly. Mac n cheese: can't have too much of it as the flavour goes a little odd. The jackfruit burger wasn't that great. Acai bowl was a little runny.

Visited again this week: chocolate chia pudding was amazing. The maple burger was ok- I still prefer grilld’s vegan burger.
HotChipy
Pretty impressed with The Alley although I can't help but think they are trying to be By Chloe NY & fall short of the mark.
Sweet potato fries & the dipping sauces were definitely the highlight of my visit. I added pineapple to the beet burger for extra yum 🍍

Always exciting to try new vegan places.
Parking can be challenging on the outer side of St Kilda Rd as it's loading zone during weekdays. Need to park on the inner lane near the tram tracks.

Service was very fast. Everything looked tasty on the menu. However, most of the flavours were too strong.

The meatballs were really salty but the cashew ricotta and spaghetti squash were yum!!
Mac n cheese was a good snack but also quite salty and the coconut bacon was too overpowering.
The signature macro bowl was a decent and super healthy meal, probably the best choice of the day.

You can order the meals online and pick them up which is really convenient.

If you want to take a toilet break, be prepared to spend awhile looking for it as there's no signs. The guy behind the counter told me it's two doors down inside the building which didn't help at all. Luckily the cleaner came to my help.

The chocolate chip cookies are delicious, soft on the inside and bit crunchy exterior.
The air fried potato wedges were surprisingly good (even though not really crisp) and were more fry-shaped, which I prefer.
Don't like brioche buns with savoury burgers though.
Love that they aim to compost all their food waste and am very curious to know if they compost their cutlery, which I think I saw said it was compostable.

Had the kale salad with roasted 'coconut' bacon ' and croutons...
the flavours were all there, very tasty for a vegan dish.... the only thing was there was a little too much dressing which would have been better on the side, as it was way too salty...... coconut bacon was interesting , however too salty on the palate combined with the dressing .
Sweet potato fries were 'air dried' - a healthy option but were like warm .....
nice food, but presentation and a little more finesse would have been nice .

We had to wait 6 minutes for our order to be taken at the counter. THIS IS A FAST FOOD CHAIN. READ THIS!!!! That's a bad sign from the start. I ordered a large almond flat white (too expensive and small for a large and not good) and a BEET burger (bland tasteless and boring). Will me my first and last.
Veggirl
I really wanted to like this place but the food is just, well, bland.

The maple bacon burger needed something extra, like more sauce or a bit of zing, it wasn't terrible but I wouldn't bother coming here for it. The flavour was OK but fell flat - also overpriced compared to other places where I can get an amazing burger for the same price. +1 for the bun though which was quite nice.

The mac and cheese was OK too - however a bit salty and bland as well.

It's good to see more vegan options popping up around this end of town however the flavour just isn't there yet. Maybe a few more refinements and it could be amazing.
Sara Maria
very underwhelming.. was expecting the mac and cheese to taste more real like the daiya mac and cheese tastes like but this was nothing like it. had to put nutritional yeast on the whole ''large'' tub ( if thats a large how tiny must the small be?! ) to make it taste cheesier and add the flavour that was lacking... using white beans and cashews is a great way to do the cheese sauce but please experiment to make the perfect sauce cause right now its not good.. coconut bacon was good, the kale on top was not good.
Joanna Shaddai
Service was fast, efficient, and food was very reasonably priced!

As a pescatarian, it's been a long time since I last tasted bacon. This place has made me remember what bacon tasted like! Loved their coconut bacon and fake meatballs!

Tried their goji berry latte too. It was super good, but price was a bit steep though ($6.95 for latte).

Will definitely be back to try their vegan burgers!

Love everything about this place. Highlights are the off menu cheeseburger, mac and cheese and spaghetti squash and meatballs. Oh, and the cookies are delish too. Normally get here at least once a week for lunch.
Theycallmemaggie
Given my adoration for cheese, I tentatively tested the waters with my toes when it came to the mac 'n' cheese... and ended up seriously wowed by how much I enjoyed the creamy white bean and cashew sauce blend. The coconut bacon and breadcrumbs imparted a tasty savoury crunch that elevated the overall dish.

Drove across town the other weekend after hearing about The Alley online and viewing their menu. It seemed too good to be true and unfortunately it was. The Alley is stark inside with little or no ambience - a vegan fast food venue that is setting itself up for franchising. Nothing wrong with that, the world needs more vegan eateries although The Alley falls short of delivering good plant based food within the vegan ethos. We had the Brekky Burger which was tasty (loved the coconut bacon) but question whether the brioche bun was vegan(?) and the chips were unseasoned and limp. Soy chai latte for $6.95 is a bit rich and the cappuccino was burnt and undrinkable. Both food and drinks come in takeaway containers, in contrast with the vegan values of sustainability and minimising the eco footprint. Yeah, it's great that there are more vegan options opening all the time, I guess I left wondering whether The Alley is spreading the word of veganism or is merely jumping on the ever-popular vegan 'gravy train'.
Somya
As a meat eater, I was impressed by the menu's variety. I liked the air baked potato wedges (my friend and I thought that the almond parmesan and crispy kale was a genious addition), but the mac n cheese and maple bacon burger, although at first try was really good, became really salty near the end of the meal. The cold pressed juices were really good though! My fave's the red ruby juice.

A clever spin on the owner’s name (Alexandra, or Allie for short), new vegan joint The Alley offers a varied selection of breakfast, lunch and snack options that are 100% vegan without skimping on flavour or creativity. Located along the corporate section of St Kilda Road, the eye-catching food and drinks attract both vegans and non-vegans alike, with affordable prices making it easily accessible to corporate crowds, tradesman working in the area, and students seeking to jump on the next big trend.
Penguineats
Specifically catering to the vegan crowd, The Alley make every attempt to make great tasting food without the use of animal products.
While we found most of the end product creative and interesting, the burger we sampled on this occasion was just not to our palate, with the over-processing and high sodium content undoubtedly the biggest letdown on the supposed highlight of our meal.
Kylie Wallace
Absolutely loved it, quick tasty and delicious food! The burgers and the sweet potato fries were incredible and I'm not even vegan. Couldn't recommend enough!
Ta.be.tabi
Great offering of flavoursome plant-based dishes from breakfast items, pastas, burgers and desserts. Some burgers were designed to mimic a typical burger with a vegan twist such as the Beet “Steak”, Maple “Bacon” and BBQ pulled jack fruit. I had the Mi_So Hungry Burger which is a smokey crumbed eggplant steak with cucumber/umeboshi slaw, lettuce, tomato, onions, tomato miso ketchup in a fluffy brioche bun. There was much tangy flavour from the sauce and umeboshi, and the veggies used were fresh and crisp. Couldn’t taste much miso specifically, but I still really enjoyed the thoroughly mushy inner of the eggplant steak contrasted with the crumbed outer. Overall it was an interesting, delicious vegan burger which I wouldn’t say no to having again.

As a non-vegan/vegetarian, I was concerned when my colleague sent an invite for lunch at 'The Alley'. Even though the invite was prefaced with 'it's vegan but it's not what you're thinking, it's epic.'

We rocked up at midday and the place was pumping! Even though The Alley is new, it had an established vibe with a diverse group of customers; from the St. Kilda Rd suits to mums and bubs and of course the early adopting foodies of Melbourne.

A big shout out to whoever is behind the playlist as the tunes were on point and hijacked our business lunch with the phrase 'I love this song' being thrown around roughly every 3m40s. The service was fantastic, we were met with a welcoming from a smiling staff member who was cleaning a table as we arrived, the lady who took our order was was fantastic at explaining the menu and offering recommendations. We even spotted the owner checking in with customers and cleaning up tables.

But what you're all wondering . . . the food, was it any good? And I am happy to say that I was indeed blown away. Flavour, flavour, flavour. I didn't realise you could get so much tasty goodness into vegan food. I opted for the Spaghetti Squash & Meatballs, I know what you're thinking 'Squash; gross', but no this was delicious and so deceiving. It was like one of Heston Bloomfield's mind-boggling creations, the mind was convinced I was eating a legit Meatballs and Spaghetti dish. My colleagues sampled the Mexican Taco Bowl and the Beet Steak Burger both resulting in great reviews. We even topped off our experience with a sneaky soft serve and peanut buttercup.

For anyone with Vegan mates, do yourself a favour and suggest this place as your next lunch catch up!
Ryan J Balfour
Amazing! I normally shy away from the traditional vegan spots but it had such a fun atmosphere and all the staff were incredibly polite. I had the mexican bowl and loved it! Completely stuffed after! Recommending to all my friends here in Melbourne

Easily accessible via a tram from Flinders Street station and just a stop away from domain interchange, The Alley is located under an office building.

The interior is beautifully designed with hanging bicycles on the wall and draping greenery off the wall shelves. The seating reminds me of cafeteria style with a large rectangular shared common table in the centre and tables along one side and bench seats on the other.

While I am not vegan (or even vegetarian), The Alley surprised me with their take on the Mac'N'Cheese and their tasty meat-free burger. I could never have imagined that a vegan Mac'N'Cheese could ever taste this good without real cheese; a recommended dish to try. The burger was flavoursome with a touch of freshness from the lettuce and tomato, served with a soft brioche bun which went perfectly with the air baked sweet potatoes which were perfectly baked and seasoned (tip: hold the burger nice and steady as the 'pattie' did break apart easily).

The peanut buttercup smoothie is of the thicker variety and therefore quite filling so if you're after a more thinner/liquidy smoothie then skip this one. It was well balanced in flavour without any of the ingredients overpowering the other. Moving onto the vegan desserts, the vegan cupcake had a bit more elasticity than the dairy counterpart with a beautiful peanut butter and jelly icing while the soft serve was almost like a dairy one but a little less creamy in comparison.

Dishes that make up this review (* recommended dishes):

Peanut buttercup smoothie; peanut butter, banana, almond milk, coconut milk, raw cacao, pea protein and cinnamon ($9.95)

Mac'N'Cheese; macaroni and sweet corn with a creamy white bean and cashew sauce topped with coconut bacon and breadcrumbs ($6.95 for small / $10.95 for large)*

Beet steak burger; beetroot-black bean tempeh burger with butter lettuce, tomato, onion, crispy shallots, sriracha aioli in a beet brioche bun ($12.95)*

Air baked sweet potato fries seasoned with herb salt ($6.95)

Peanut butter and jelly cupcake

Soft serve ice cream ($4.95)

The Fo0die dined as a guest of The Alley and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.

Follow me on Instagram for more photos: @fo0die

The Alley is a Vegan cafe in South Yarra and is part of the new wave of Vegan restaurants in Melbourne that’s out to prove that plant based food doesn’t have to be tasteless.

We were lucky enough to go down to try items from They Alley menu. We started with two smoothies, which we found to be quite nice, and they went well with the mac and cheese that we started with. The mac and cheese was by far the best vegan we have ever tried. We then had some burgers, the maple bacon burger was really nice, with a brioche bun. The patty was flavoursome and delicious. With the burger, we had some air baked potato wedges, which were really tasty!
Overall we loved the food at The Alley and can't wait to come back soon!

It's great to have another vegan/vego eatery in town. The food was delicious and refreshingly different, in particular the jackfruit burger. The mac and cheese was a little bland but the sweet potato fries were a hit. My biggest complaint was that there is essentially no eat-in, although we asked to dine in, everything came in plastic or paper containers which all contribute to landfill and which I believe goes against the vegetarian ethos. There wasn't even a recycle bin! Great food, poor environmental factors.
Amy W
Food was tasty and impressive on the flavour. Mac & cheese was my favourite. I also tried the Hawaiian burger which good but a little messy to eat. An enjoyable meal.

AMAZING! Easily some of the best vegan food I've had in Melbourne. Fairly priced for the food, which is so good! We got the Mexican Taco Bowl, Spaghetti Squash and Meatballs, the potato wedges, and the Beet Steak Burger. We also got the soft serve ice cream (biscuit and strawberry was the flavour of the day) and a cookie! So we really went all out!All of the lunch items were so good, and the meat in the taco bowl and the meatballs was so realistic and really flavorful. Also, we're not sure why people have not rated the decor well? We thought it was really well set up, with a cool and casual vibe that suited it so well!It is my new favourite place in Melbourne! I only wish it was closer to my house so I could go there for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!!
Soledad
Love love love the airfried sweet potato chips with "fake" ketchup, tempeh, the pumpkin spaghetti.. and the carrot sauce.. yuum! I go to the Alley for lunch almost every day.

Gastrology
The Alley is a vegan fast casual food concept sharing delicious, wholesome, plant-based food, aiming to revolutionise vegan eating as we know it. Vegan restaurants traditionally cater to the alternative types, but owner Alexandra Pyke, the brainchild behind The Alley, has managed to bridge the gap between die-hard vegans and everyday folks who want to be more conscious with their food choices, whilst not sacrificing their much-loved comfort foods.
Michelle
I am already a regular at The Alley and making my way through the whole menu! Am in love with the brekky burger and the hale to the kale salad. Also really enjoyed the bio dynamic and organic wines. Will definitely be back for more....
Jean-Baptiste
It's a vegan fast food corner so do not expect a restaurant service and presentation, but overall the concept , pricing and products are coherent, food is not bad, little simple but tasty,
had the macro bawl and the maple bacon burger, will come back for a fast and simple meal !

I wish i could give this place a better review!

I used to basically work above this place and waited for the doors to open, it was going to be a vegan place which was great and there menu looked great, that is where it ended.
So i popped in on opening day and purchased some Sweet potato fries, they were cold to start off they were quite dry and the portion size a joke. Well for the price anyway i mean almost $8 for a small box of not the best chips.

I though i would give them a second chance that day to change my mind! So they also sell coffee with either coconut, soy or almond milk sure i will try something new. I opted for a flat white as i always do and deciding on coconut milk as i like coconut. it was burned both the coffee and milk it was so bad that i had to throw it out and but more coffee!

I no longer work near here and i will not be making the journey to return for well bay food, the service was nice and that is where the point comes from.

Restaurant Type: Casual/ Vegan
Dan
This is a vegan restaurant. This means that some meat eaters might not like it. I try not to review steakhouses as a vegetarian. That said, The Alley is amazing. So much to choose from, and everything I've had was tasty. From burgers, mac and cheese to vegan ice cream, and their smoothies are amazing. They also have some items in the fridge, like avo mouse, which I did not think i'd like, but changed my perception completely. The idea of a place like this is to give you good, healthy, even ethical food without compromising on taste or trying to make it taste like meat. If you're used to crappy food then good, healthy food might taste different. I will definitely be back, again and again. I hope we will see more food establishments like this one in the future.

New vegan cafe which opened up across the road from where I work - had this strange craving for tacos when I walked passed and read "MEXICAN TAXO BOWL" and boy did it hit the spot! however needed to be more generous with the faux chorizo - don't know what it's made of but it's good!
Natalie
Delicious food, especially the salads! My kids loooove the cookies. Great service. Also love the choice of beverages for a quick drink after work.
Tiffany
This was my first vegan experience and I
Was pleasantly surprised. The mac n cheese was
delicious as were the sweet potato chips. Decor is amazing and staff were friendly. Will definitely be back

5 out of 5 any time! I was a bit skeptical about a new vegan place coming into town but this place is off the hook! The maple bacon burger defines me this last month, they say you are what you eat and if so I'm a mouth watering healthy piece of love between two buns.
Thomas Agramonte
Came here with my friend, ordered the taco salad and it was all time. Went back the next morning and got the brekky burger. It was absolutely delicious. The tofu scramble is out of this world and tastes amazing. Altogether, I have had a delicious experience. Will go back again soon. Cheers
Danielle
I went to the Alley for lunch with my work colleagues. I'm not vegan but one of my colleagues is. I was amazed at how tasty the food was. The decor and ambience was great, felt like
an uber cool hangout. Will definitely return, frequently!! There are plenty more things to try on the menu.

Food is absolutely delicious - hale to the kale salad, sweet potato fries are to die for and those rose water chocolate cupcakes are out of this world!!!

Came here for dinner yesterday. The burger and sweet potato chips were awesome! The customer service could be better they need to smile more! Will be back again when I am craving for some burgerrrsss.

I'd had a late breakfast so when I came here I only had room to try one item on the menu: the maple bacon burger. It was excellent. Fresh and full of flavour. Can't wait to come back on an empty stomach and sample a wider selection.

1 week later: back again. Just had the green tea Kale pancakes with choc chip n cashew coconut cream. The pancakes were very light; my initial thought was that the coconut cream was a bit heavy on the coconut but as soon as you bite into your first choc chip, that heaviness dissipates. They won't get too many photos on instagram for their presentation though: the pancakes are served in a biodegradable tray, it looks like something you'd get on an airplane (economy class). But full credit to The Alley for trying to save the environment, and - again, after that first mouthful of choc chip - the presentation doesn't detract from the taste - delicious.

Dined here for lunch today. Completely underwhelmed. I had there beetroot burger and side of sweet potato fries. I found the brioche wasn't fresh and the service quite rude.
Etai Ben Simhon
Best vegan food I've had in 4 years of veganism!!! The mac 'n' cheese is incredible. The bacon was so delicious and the burger consistency and seasoning was on point!
@twogoodtoresist
The alley is simply plant based heaven! Reading the menu alone made our mouths water but it's only when you try the food here do you really realise that they're on to something incredible and insanely delicious!! Being a vegetarian/vegan these days isn't too hard but it's when you can order anything off a menu and it all tastes amazing, flavoursome and filling (and you don't feel short changed) that you know that you're winning! Their "chorizo" which comes with the Mexican salad bowl and coconut "bacon" is like nothing we've ever tried before. The mac and cheese is an absolute must order and the peanut butter cup smoothie left us salivating for more! Allie the owner is delightful and knows how to make everyone feel like they're at home! We can't wait to go back and try MORE!
Leon
Went here today after hearing / reading mix reviews about the place. Had the macro bowl and a side of mac & cheese wasn't the best meal I have had. Macro salad was over dressed and the mac and cheese was a bit bland in flavour. May go back to try there burgers.

Great for a quick lunch, the service was very helpful, knowledgeable and quick. Food was a delight. Will definitely go back, hungry for more

The Alley is the new vegan restaurant near my work so I've been able to try it on two occasions. I wanted to try both the burger and a non-burger meal before writing a review.

The other day I ordered the Squash spaghetti with veggie meatballs. I loved the vegan ricotta and it was definitely the highlight of the dish. The veggie meatballs were a bit heavy. I loved the squash spaghetti though - such a great idea!

Today I tried the Beet Steak burger. I definitely preferred it over the meatballs. I loved the sauce and the pattie! Would definitely order this again. I also tried the sweet potato fries - they are ok but by themselves they are a bit ordinary. I love that there are free sauces! I liked all the sauces except for the carrot ketchup one. It was too weird for me. Didn't even have a saucy texture.

I also like that they have got free cucumber water!!

I will definitely be coming here often for more plant based food.
