I love this restaurant!!!
Great flavours and modern twist on traditional dishes.
Have visited a few times and always have options for dietary requirements
Will visit again
Great traditional Malay dishes. Walked in from street and staff were welcoming and friendly. We orded the Beef Rendang and Malay Curry Puffs, but the best dish was the Braised Pork Belly in soy, was nice with a few glasses of red. Loved the spices, awesome decor and cool background music. Will be back again.
This might be my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. The atmosphere makes it a joy to ear here and the food is off the charts delicious. Staff are friendly and the food is quick to be served. One of the highlights since our time in Melbourne. Love it.
From the street, you can see this place is so cosy and cute and has a gorgeous modern fit out. The food is honestly so delicious. I’ve been here twice and both times the food was so flavourful and fragrant. Staff were so friendly and helpful with choosing from the menu and there are so many kick-ass vegan options on the menu! I had the laksa once and the char kway teow and they were amazing! One of their sambals is vegan too and you can get complementary sambal with you meal. And I love spicy food and free condiments so I’m in heaven!
Love this place!
Love this place - went with a party of four on a Sunday night - service was excellent - dumplings in chilli oil fantastic and the beef rendang was just as good. Everyone left better for the experience- going back for sure, 👍
I had curry puffs with nice sauce, nice soft-shell craft bun there. The ice cream is good too. I enjoyed the meal and highly recommend to people.
Very stylish decor. Looks good, is good. This is Malaysian inspired dining. We really enjoyed the place and our meal. There’s a good range of dishes on the menu and a good wine list. We shared pearl dumplings, Malay curry puffs, beef tends good, fried barramundi and mamak nee goreng. All the dishes were lovely and very enjoyable. The chateau peytol rose was superb with the meal. Service was excellent too. This is a very good place that we recommend.
Really simple modern Malaysian restaurant. The inside is simple and clean, the food was delicious. I ordered the soft shell crab noodle and in my honest opinion it was really good, as well as the tofu nuggets (I ordered two servings). The only thing was I felt like the wait was a little too long. But other than that was a great experience.
Northcote eatery Merah not only dishes up a tasty and vibrant take on Malaysian cuisine but also one of Melbourne's most colourful feeds. Once your eyes (and camera) finish lapping up the visual #foodporn, it's time to immerse your taste buds in the contemporary meets traditional flavours of Malaysian street food. The sambal, a spicy shrimp paste that features prominently in Malaysian fare, is made in house and comes in three varieties that add a gradient of sweet, tangy and spicy accents to a dish.
Really enjoyed dinner at Merah on Friday night. The food was delicious and flavoursome, staff were attentive and the fitout is top notch. Would definitely return!
Read so many reviews about this place so decided to try it out. It is Malaysian cuisine with some modern twists and innovations. Instead of all the conventional Msian taste we are used to we find the spices to be abit milder but still surprisingly well balanced. It was a good night out and a great feast. We hope to be back soon. Yum!
Loved the modern fitout of this restaurant in Northcote! The cocktails were excellent, we had the margarita and the passion ginger martini. The food was also great - seafood laksa had a wonderful mix of spices and was very creamy (not sure if I could taste truffle though). The tofu nuggets were amazing, we could have eaten a bucket. Fried chicken had a delicious spiced coating. We also really enjoyed the house made sambal on the side!
Merah is a restaurant that reflects a modern Nonya menu done exceptionally well. A good selection of Malaysian favourites, quality ingredients and simple clean flavours.
Starting with the Satay chicken bytes of succulent thigh deep fried covered in a crisp seasoned crust served with a rich peanut dipping sauce. A delightful take on chicken Satay with a contemporary twist.
I’m a Laksa aficionado so hard to please. The Laksa has a deep flavour yet light bone broth base, house curry paste that’s not too oily or spicy. I had the seafood Laksa that had generous serve of fresh prawns, crab cake, tofu, squid. There is options to add ingredients so I added chicken, egg and slaw as an opinion. The Laksa is served with a beautiful home made Ramen noodle and finished with a Roti wedge.
Beef Rendang was delightful with a succulent slow cooked beef in a gravy that had a perfect balance of sweet, salt and sour.
The vegetable acha was wonderfully pickled and had a sweet balance that cleansed the pallet. I did however miss the addition of traditional cucumber, a minor criticism.
The decor is bright and uptempo, comfortable and casual. The ambiance is great with appropriate music that enables conversation.
Service was friendly, attentive and accomodating
Price point is medium however reflects the quality.
I recommend Merah as a foodie destination of quality.
First time visit and we loved it. Quality dishes and full of flavor! Had Beef rendang, pork mee goreng, and vege laksa. Also tasting platter!
Worth the trek! The food at Merah is amazing and the cocktails are the best I have ever had in Melbourne! Always consistently good, bravo Merah! Can't wait to check out the new space out back, keep up the good work 🙌🏽
The food at Merah is just beautiful and everyone working there is so lovely, welcoming and they all make you feel right at home. I can’t wait to go back again and try whatever their cocktail special is, the drinks at Merah are something else too! Highly recommend the mushroom noodles and sweet and sour cauliflower, to die for!
The laksa was so yummy and good options for a vegan and gluten-free person!
The staff were really friendly and attentive.
There was a big cocktail list and staff recommended some good options for me. The rhubarb club was very insta worthy.
I had a very enjoyable night out in the courtyard with good music and great company.
Amazing food, vegan ,GF options, normal Melbourne meal prices. We had coconut pumpkin curry which was great and this plum sth cauliflower.
Probably one of the best ethnic places along the high street
