This me goto place for Chinese in Perth. It’s not fancy, or over the top. If I just want to get some Chinese or Yum Cha I go here for some a causal meal.
Top 3 dim sum places for me. They do radish cake & deserts just how I like it 🙌🏻🤫 Can’t remember what the meat dish is called though. Overall worth trying x
Enjoyed a fantastic dim sum yum cha with my parentals today. Dumplings were tasty and plentiful! Walked out holding our bellies in satisfaction, $52 between three, happy days!
This place is decent enough. Try to get in early because you will have to wait a loooong time if you don't. The food is nice, especially the shao mai and the mango pudding.
This place is really good for seafood. We ordered the snow crab and prawn, also vegetable. They are authentic Cantonese dish and taste. The seafood is live fresh.
One of my go to places to have yum cha when I’m in the city area. This place is popular with the locals probably due to the fact that it’s cheaper with tasty food. My favourites are the prawn dumplings, siew mai, rice noodle rolls with prawn/youtiao and the liu sha bao. Service is friendly and prompt though sometimes rather pushy as they try to offload more food on your table
My beautiful cousin who now lives in Melbourne came over for a holiday recently to celebrate turning fort-… I mean… 20 (twice). We had a family dinner here which consisted of 30+ people spread over 3 tables. Food came out in no particular order and wasn’t timed (1 table would get a couple of dishes while the other tables had to wait some time). It was a bit chaotic to be honest. But at least the food was nice. I particularly loved the crispy skin almond chicken with prawn paste which is a dish we order on special occasions. It’s quite a labor intensive dish and therefore a bit pricey but soooooo worth it. Other dishes we ordered (I couldn’t take photos because everyone on my table was so hungry) were: honey chicken, garlic prawns, salt and pepper spare rib, birds nest, fried rice and a few others. Overall it was a decent experience. I have been here a few times before, a couple years ago now, for weddings as well as dim sum. My family used to eat here back in the day when the place was called Chau’s Teahouse. I have also been back for dim sum since it has been changed to Northbridge Chinese Restaurant and the dim sum here is really nice (I will need to write a blog for it when I come next time).
Without being spectacular, still one of the better dimsum places around Perth at the moment. Thank goodness Perthies are blessed with great dimsum.
Would suggest the har gao, siu mai, fong zhou, spare ribs and soup dumplings (all pictured below) which are staple normal dimsum orders.
Found the taste to be well balanced which a few places miss the mark. Not overly salty that is and the sweeter dishes are overly sweet either. These guys seems to know what they are doing.
I’d come back again for sure.
I had been there many times for dim sim as well as seafood dinner. The food is outstanding, good variety of dim sim, fresh and professionally cooked seafood. However, they need to renew their restaurant, when I walk inside, it feels like you walk back in 1980s!
Try their soy sauce scallops, homemade tofu, and sautéed beef dish. It's always packed with people during the weekends, so be sure to book before making a trip here! Fuzzyeo
We love it, tried many different Yum Cha's but always come back to here. Authentic, friendly and well priced!! Highly recommend! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
We went to Northbridge Chinese Restaurant for dinner with a big group and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is always bustling and combined with many delicious dishes to choose from, makes for great spot to have a satisfying dinner. They are very popular for dimsum in the day time, as there is always a line up at weekend lunch. Service is generally good but being so busy and noisy, sometimes you need to make yourself known to get some attention.
Food was very delicious and authentic Hong Kong style. This place has always been our family's and friends favourite when it comes to dim sum and Chinese dishes. We have been coming here for years and not a single time it 'd disappoint us. Always come early on weekends to avoid the queue.
It's hard to beat yum cha on a hungover Sunday and this bustling restaurant hits the spot. The prawn dumplings and BBQ pork buns are delicious. The crispy squid legs are nice but need more salt and the pork dumplings were a little lacking in flavour. Will come back all the same.
Dim sum coma....so happy!
It has been a while since I last ate at Northbridge Chinese Restaurant. Agree with other reviewers about long wait, mediocre service and watermelon lady doing the hard-sell but it was worth it.
Faves include plump Har-Gow, radish cake, and a bunch of weekend only tasty morsels. Not the cheapest nor the most expensive but worth it IMHO.
Still one of my favourite dimsum joints in Perth. They are always busy and I'm not surprised. I think they've been pretty consistent with their dishes and reasonably priced too. My favourites from this place is the egg tarts, pineapple buns and the deep fried prawn dumplings with mayo sauce. Their steamed dumpling are yummy, but I don't like their deep fried squid tentacles. Overall a good feed here.
After being shortchanged of money many years back, I have had my reservations about coming back to this establishment. But after constant ravings by the Ma, I decided to oblige (afterall, it was a free meal from the folks!), and we headed to the Northbridge Chinese Restaurant as part of “good luck for your new job” treat.
Love the food, not fine dining and very noisy but good value for money. Don't expect to much furniture wise, comfortable and very relaxed. Casual dining.
Came here for an easy Friday lunch with colleagues. Impressed on most fronts: delicious food which just keeps coming on those little trolleys and everything nice and fresh! My only complaint was that woman with the watermelon juice - I already told her three times I wasn't interested but sure enough, every time she strolled past our table she eye - balled me from 20 metres away and asked AGAIN. In the end it was cheap. My favourite was the pork bun.
Consistently the best dim sum experience and the most reliable. At a point in my life I came here almost every month with varying sizes of groups, and I've found that having a large group (12+) gets you in easier during peak time. But if you don't have that many, who cares, because the food is very good. The standards (har gow, siu mai, BBQ pork buns, xiao long baos etc) are all very well executed and I've never been disappointed. Watermelon juice lady will always ask you if you want watermelon juice, and honestly, in the ~80 times I've been over the last 7 years, I've only said yes once. Sorry watermelon juice lady, I'm just not feeling it most of the time...
I am going to split my review to 2 section because let's be honest: the food are really great! In fact this place is one my favorite dimsum places in Perth. Awesome dimsum, great food with plenty of choices, they all taste pretty good. Loves the xiao long bao and really really loves the baked salted egg yolk bun - it's realy worth the wait! Prices are decent too.
But with awesome dimsum comes the long queue (average of half hour plus every sunday afternoon I visit), hectic atmosphere (most busy period you share table with other customers, long waiting time for ordered items (sometimes you have to reorder and reorder again because staffs may forgot!). So there is a downside to the service of this delicious dimsum place.
What's the verdict? Come early to beat the rush hour. If you don't mind waiting, then go for it! And seriously, their baked egg yolk bun is awesome.
Been coming here for years, and every time we have the best yum Cha, the dumplings have always been delicious and up to scratch and is my favourite place to go whenever I'm hankering for some old fashion dim sum, the service however is on and off
Came here for lunch with the family on Saturday. Took a while to get in as there was a queue. This place is as busy as. We haven't been to this dim sum place for a while now and I always remember that it serves great dim sum. After we managed to sit down, a mature lady staff wheeling the cart came to us. We were very impressed with her customer service. She was chatty and recommended dishes to us in a pleasant manner. She was way better than the other younger staff in the restaurant. We took the usual stuff that we normally eat and had the durian mochi which the lady recommended. The mochi came in a set of 3 and we really liked it as the mochi skin was thin yet chewy and inside was the durian cream with real durian pieces. One thing that disappointed us was the porridge or congee. It was too thick unlike how it should be serve. When we scooped it up with the spoon, the congee literally clung onto the spoon and not drizzle down. Everything we ordered was spot on except for this. Still, this is a great dim sum place and I hope next time we come, that pleasant mature lady would still be around to serve us.
Super efficient service as they're usually quite busy for dim sum lunch. As soon as you sit down they pretty much wheel the trolley of the various dim sum or walk with a tray of food to you within a few minutes, great if you're hungry. Sometimes they'll ask if you want the same thing a few times when they come around with the trolley or tray again, but all you have to do is say no if you don't want any of what you see. We ordered everything in the pictures for two people and we were very full, so much that we had a couple of dumplings and an egg tart left over.
I went to Northbridge Chinese restaurant with my family for Chinese New Year and had the CNY banquet. Even though it was really busy, dishes were delicious and staff were attentive and brought out the dishes quite quickly. The highlight was the lobster and noodles, steamed fish and crabmeat soup. The lion dance was entertaining, I'd definitely will come back for more.
I started a new job at the beginning of the new year and within a week I knew I had found some fellow foodies. We are all interested in cooking and eating, so a lot of our conversations revolve around what we ate, what we are eating and what we plan to eat. It’s fantastic! For a Friday lunch, a few of my colleagues and I decided to cross the train tracks to gorge ourselves on dim sum in Northbridge.
Good foods, reasonable pricing and fast serving but it can get very busy especially on the weekend and parking can be a bit difficult to find.
This place is nice for dim sum(lunch) and dinner too..most of their food are delicious.
In term of the service..you need to put your hands up several times and then someone will attend to your request, so you need to be a little bit patient😉😉😉
One of my fav dim sum places in Perth :) good, delicious food and the service is always quick! Their Salted Egg Yolk Bun is a must try! And I always always get their watermelon juice each time I visit!
The specialty chicken is always so consistently good! It's absolutely delicious! Their specialty tofu is good too, but decided to try the sizzling Japanese tofu tonight. It was really yummy too!
My favourite Chinese restaurant in Perth, I've been coming here for so many birthdays, large family gatherings, dates, catch-up with mates etc. It's the perfect setting and the food is always tasty and of very high quality. I've noticed the portions have increased (probably due to increasing competition and the falling economy) although prices have stayed the same.
Although you may be offended by their service, it's typical of a Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong, I suggest you go elsewhere if you're looking for 5 star service i.e. Silks. My fave dish is the honey pepper beef fillet (never had anything which comes close in Perth). Be sure to have some water ready after you finish your meal though, you get really thirsty from the salt/MSG!
Possibly the best lao sar bao (egg yolk custard bun) I've ever had.
My favourite dim sum place! The egg tart, and all the traditional dim sum. Tea, prawn dumpling, chicken claws, spare ribs... Etc...! Never enough!
Lovely spot, great service, the selection however is predominantly pork based and I don't eat pork... A bit of seafood, no chicken offered. My friends tell me the food was great and the few things I could eat were pretty good. If you don't eat pork maybe try somewhere else or you may be disappointed.
Simply put, my favourite place for yumcha. I have been coming here as long as I can remember, and they really set the bar for anywhere else I try.
Never change
This place has the best yum Cha in Perth! And the best tasting yum Cha I've had in Australia! Yes, it tasted better than all those fancy Chinese restaurants in Sydney. This is the go-to place for a quick late lunch after tutorials for my friends and I. The services are great if you know what you are doing and what you want to order. Because although they don't have hidden menus like so many other Asian restaurants, they do offer to cook whatever you want, even if they are random dishes that are not on the menu! We always get the stir fried Gai Lan with garlic and fermented tofu, definitely tastes better than the normal Gai Lan with oyster sauce! do not be afraid, go crazy with your orders, the chefs know what they are doing! The food simply amazing and ingredients are fresh. This restaurant has a very good reputation among the Chinese community too!
We've been going to Northbridge Chinese for dim sum lunch for years, usually on a Friday. This was our first time for some months but it didn't let us down. It is consistently the best dim sum we've found yet in Perth. The food always seems fresh and tasty. The quality is good. Communication is sometimes a bit iffy, but there are some staff with reasonable English. Not really a problem, it just adds to the atmosphere - a little bit of Hong Kong in Perth. The table service is always friendly and efficient. The whole thing seems a bit chaotic but the food comes out and you never have to wait for long. You can BYO wine. My one criticism is that there are no itemised bills and dim sum prices only seem to be listed in Chinese script so you have no idea whether you are being charged for what you actually had! And if you question it they can get quite agitated and abrupt. I'm sure there are laws about this. But we'll keep going. It's our favourite dim sum house.
This is one of the better places for dim sum. I've been to many places in northbridge, and not many get you in the door in a reasonable about of time and also serve up dim sum that is still plentiful as well as good. Prices are adequate. It's tight in the morning, so prepared to be a little uncomfortable, but the food is great.
Best dim sum in perth. Best to get in early on the weekends or late in the afternoon. Food is always fast and fresh. Their baked egg yolk buns keep me coming back for me!
This place is a regular one for my family.. And many other Chinese families in Perth! This place is always busy, and for good reason: really good food at reasonable prices. The sizzling tofu and spare ribs are always favourites for us, but I've yet to eat anything there where I've gone 'meh'. Sunday lunch dim sum is also excellent; definitely the best in Perth in my mind. A star off though for the service, which is generally rushed and kind of gruff.
I have been here numerous times for the Yum Cha over the years and am never disappointed. All of the dumplings and dishes that we order are tasty, fresh, and hot. Very nice custard tarts, dumplings and crispy squid! Also, it seems to be one of the few restaurants in Perth that make the braised beef tendon dish, and it's done well here too.
The staff were polite and efficient - food trolleys came around quite regularly, and tea was topped up quickly.
My first dim sum experience. I didn't have a dish I didn't enjoy and wish I could have tried more. Everything tastes fresh. A menu would have been nice of some info on dishes so I didn't have just pick what look good.
Went there in a Saturday noon without reservation, queued for a long time. Began with some dim sums, which is a slight inferior compared with Dragon Palace but still authentic and delicious, main dishes were great. The problem is one of staff with food trolley who kept add foods on our table regardless wether we want them or not, saying just try it you will like it! Put foods on the table and left. Those dim sum tasted not bad but made us feel uncomfortable.
great food
my friend had his wedding there
food was awesome especially the fried quail and almond chicken
not like most Chinese restaurants where you expect gluey food, everything tasted nice and fresh
they also do delicious dim sum for lunch
great place
Whenever I get a Dim Sum craving, I come here! I love Dim Sum and I have got to say that it's got to be one of the most legit places in Perth. It's much more affordable if you compare it to other places in Northbridge. So for the price you pay and for the amazing standard of food you get, it's a great deal! However, the soft shell crab is the only dish I will never order again because it was mostly flour and it was very soggy (soaked with oil) when it was served to me so that put me off ever ordering it again. But, everything else was delish!
Northbridge Chinese Restaurant is very popular for Yum Cha in the asian community and amongst asian families. This also one of Jiaxin's favourite family traditions. They serve traditional Dim Sum dishes on the trolley and to order as well. This is like tapas but a whole lot cheaper with each dish ranging from $5 to $7 filled with succulent asian delights!
Takes me back to China. A group of 8 dined at the Northbridge Chinese Restaurant last week. The food, service and ambience reminded me of my 12 years living in China. We ordered a range of dishes including chicken, steamed fish (steamed in a typical Chinese fashion), lobster (the piece de resistance) and several vegetable dishes. All reminded me of dining in southern Guangdong province and all were very good. People expecting an el cheapo Chinese meal would be disappointed as this is high quality food and, as with any other cuisine, is relatively expensive. That being said I figure it provides good value for money particularly compared to other places in Perth, the overpriced capital of the world.
Very nice dim sum. The yum cha here should not be disappointed. I recalled the real taste of dim sum in Hong Kong. We didn't try all the dim sum but the chicken feet is the best, 10 out of 10.
Excellent. Still the best yum cha in Northbridge. The only down side is that it takes a long time to get in on weekends...which is very Hong Kong and authentic. The cost has gone up since I was last there but way better than dragon palace which is where we went for a while. The rice flour roll are the best. The dumpling skins could be softer, but I've yet to find a better dumpling in northbridge. The century egg porridge is also a winner and the coconut pudding. It is definitely worth the wait and the girl at the door does well. If you want to know what is good dim sum, just see where all the Chinese people go.
Best Dim Sum in Perth!!. In short, this is the best place for dim sum in Perth. All the food came out fresh and quickly with all the flavours perfect. Service is quite good if you consider how packed the restaurant is. There must be a reason why the place has a lot more people than next door every time I have walked past. It's not that people are stupid but it's because the food is at such a high quality at a very reasonable price.
Good Food & Well Priced!. I brought my family for Yum Cha on a Saturday at about 11:30am. There is already a small line outside but surprising only took us about 10-15mins wait. Waitress was quick to serve us food, tried Scallop dumpling, deep fried squid, BBQ Port Bun and lots more. Food is great and no wonder this restaurant is so busy! Will definitely come back for more.
Regular for Dim Sum & Dinner. I have been to this restaurant for many times for both lunch and dinner; I have to say food is much better than most of the Chinese restaurants in Perth. Not only that, their portion is very generous and the seafood there (i.e. Snowcrab, Lobsters, Fish etc) are amazingly fresh and tasty. I don't found any bad service at all, in fact, the staff collecting our empty plates or dim sum baskets quite frequently and never see the baskets or finished plates piling up. Owner is very friendly and quite talkative. She would ask us about the food and give recommendation that suits our family. Weekend is very very busy and you can tell from the long line up of people waiting of a table. I actually suspect lots of negative feedbacks are come from competitors as there is clear contrast if you can compare the line to the restaurants nearby and it's not hard to see how much busier this restaurant is compared to others. In short, great food and good service!
Authentic Dim Sum & good food with reasonable price. This is one of the best dim sum restaurants in Perth. Good food with reasonable prices.
Most dishes are great and the owners are very experienced and honest. Can't go wrong when dinning at this place.
You could even ask to modified some dishes to your dietary requirements, they will oblige.
Worth a try, if you have not been. You will not be disappointed:)

Overall it’s quite alright.. On the first Sunday of March a group of my friends decided we’d get together for dim-sum/yum-cha in Northbridge. We all have our favourite places, but the host decided we’d visit Northbridge Chinese Restaurant which I had yet to visit. We somehow managed to reserve a table for 13 people for 11:00am which I'm told is not common. A few of our guests were running late so we kept getting asked to move and whether out guests were going to arrive. After a while the employees got so persistent and pushy about it we couldn’t work out why they were so desperate to kick us off our table even though most of us were there. What we eventually worked out was that the person who took the booking thought we’d said 30 people, so they were holding 3 big tables for us whilst the crowd waiting outside kept growing. Needless to say we all laughed it off and the serves all apologised for the misunderstanding.
After we resolved that issue we really had a wonderful time. The food kept flowing, and every server stopped at our table to ask if we wanted what they had to offer. We ended up completely stuffing ourselves with a variety of tasty dishes from BBQ pork buns to various dumplings, desserts and even chicken feet. We ended up paying just under paid $27 each for our share of food and drinks which was very reasonable with the amount of food we ordered. I’ve had quite a few dim-sum/yum-cha experiences throughout Perth and I can honestly say that Northbridge Chinese Restaurant is quite up there when it comes to the food and service. I’ll be putting it in my top 5 as I have had experienced slightly better food before (I judge this on the quality of squid tentacles which were quite hard and gummy, though the various steamed dumplings were good), but overall it’s quite a good yum-cha/dim-sum place.
Colourful, noisy, busy, good food - a great Chinese New Year Experience. Couldn't believe the amount of food that they were bringing out of the kitchen - just the challenge of organisation was something to think about.
Negatives - I can't eat Shellfish so there was limited choice on the banquet menu. However I still had sufficient to eat - just less choice.
The lady at the reception was a bit rude - obviously the pressure of trying to get everyone seated etc was pretty big but she really didn't have any customer service.
Whether I'd go there for a normal meal - I'm not sure but it certainly was a great Chinese New Year celebration. So, thanks.
Enjoyed it. First time having , yum cha ... i really liked it , food was fresh & tasty & good price my gf is from hong kong and she said it was really good to...shes eaten at thousands of yum cha....ill be going back , service was good friendly and yeah there trying to put food on ur table to make money thats part of the thrill
Came for dinner with the whole family. Service was quick and efficient. Most of all the food was delicious and a hit with the whole family members. We had sizzling Japanese tofu, stir fry beef, seafood claypot with tofu, chicken fried noodle, roast duck and spinach with two kind of eggs. Will definitely be back again.

Food were good. It didn’t disappoint us when we were craving for “yum cha”. We were actually satisfied and were in food coma after. I will definitely include this in my go to chinese restaurant list here in Perth. ☺️
Really good Chinese / Cantonese food at a good price. I think they recently renovated - everything looks new.
Amazing food with amazing service.
No wonder it is always busy.
The black pepper beef was the highlight of the night, delicious fried rice too, nicely marinated prawn and the vegetable with two eggs was alright. The food was awesome, even the service wasn't the best. We barely can communicate with the waitress to order the food but gladly she can understand us by pointing at the picture. Will be back for the food.
