Review 六福海鮮酒家 - Perth

Came for dinner with the whole family. Service was quick and efficient. Most of all the food was delicious and a hit with the whole family members. We had sizzling Japanese tofu, stir fry beef, seafood claypot with tofu, chicken fried noodle, roast duck and spinach with two kind of eggs. Will definitely be back again.

Food were good. It didn’t disappoint us when we were craving for “yum cha”. We were actually satisfied and were in food coma after. I will definitely include this in my go to chinese restaurant list here in Perth. ☺️

Really good Chinese / Cantonese food at a good price. I think they recently renovated - everything looks new.

Amazing food with amazing service. No wonder it is always busy.

The staff here were so rude!! The lady asked "how many people" when we first came in, and when we asked for the menu she then said "fully booked" asking us to get out, with really rude tone. I was like, what was the point of asking how many people then ?? We were also told by another couple who experienced the same thing on the way out. I'm glad that we were not the only one who experienced this. Will never come to this place again.

Used to be a regular here, haven’t been for a while. Gave it a go on Sunday, had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. Place was chaotic, plates were thrown on the table as if they don’t want to work there. Ladies carting out Dim Sum was full on & aggressive in selling what they were hanging on to. Had to say no in so many languages till they got the point to stop asking: Made the whole experience quite unenjoyable. Food was nice, manager was friendly & price was pretty reasonable. Would I come back very soon, maybe not..

A lot of restaurants in Perth esp those that depend on skilled chefs from overseas are struggling getting staff due to travel restrictions. I thought the quality of the dim sum here as well as next door was less than what I remembered how it used to be pre Covid. Still, I’m not a dim sum expert and enjoyed what I had here and next door.

The black pepper beef was the highlight of the night, delicious fried rice too, nicely marinated prawn and the vegetable with two eggs was alright. The food was awesome, even the service wasn't the best. We barely can communicate with the waitress to order the food but gladly she can understand us by pointing at the picture. Will be back for the food.

Worst takeaway experience ever! Placed a takeaway order for 6pm pickup and was told that it’s their peak time so might be a a little bit of a wait which I was fine with. Got there at 6.20pm, and there was already a big group of people waiting for their takeaway orders. There were no clear instructions or directions from the staff members, and everyone was just gathered around, clearly no social distancing being practiced! The most ridiculous thing was that we waited for 1 hour and 40 minutes for the food to finally arrive (8pm by this point), and when it did, it was merely placed on the table by the staff, and no number was called out (which is meant to be the last 3 digits of your mobile number). I got tired of waiting so thought I should just check the bag that was on the table and to my surprise, my number was stated on the order slip! So we took the food, went up to the counter to pay, and was then told that one of our dishes was not available, which wasn’t communicated to us nor were we given an opportunity to order something different. We were so hungry by that time we couldn’t be bothered to make a huge deal about it so just paid and left. To have to wait 1 hour and 40 minutes for a meal, not the full meal we ordered mind you, is completely unacceptable.

This me goto place for Chinese in Perth. It’s not fancy, or over the top. If I just want to get some Chinese or Yum Cha I go here for some a causal meal.

Top 3 dim sum places for me. They do radish cake & deserts just how I like it 🙌🏻🤫 Can’t remember what the meat dish is called though. Overall worth trying x
MtLovely
Enjoyed a fantastic dim sum yum cha with my parentals today. Dumplings were tasty and plentiful! Walked out holding our bellies in satisfaction, $52 between three, happy days!

This place is decent enough. Try to get in early because you will have to wait a loooong time if you don't. The food is nice, especially the shao mai and the mango pudding.

Great Dim Sum, but the lady that seated us was so grumpy. She had a angry face on the entire time we were there, no customer service skills whatsoever, and if she had at least smiled, she would have scored the restaurant another star. To top it off - she had a jumper on that said 'WASTE OF SPACE' - go figger!!

This place is really good for seafood. We ordered the snow crab and prawn, also vegetable. They are authentic Cantonese dish and taste. The seafood is live fresh.

One of my go to places to have yum cha when I’m in the city area. This place is popular with the locals probably due to the fact that it’s cheaper with tasty food. My favourites are the prawn dumplings, siew mai, rice noodle rolls with prawn/youtiao and the liu sha bao. Service is friendly and prompt though sometimes rather pushy as they try to offload more food on your table

Maybe Dim Sum is not my favorite type of food; but the service was not very good either.

This place is not for those who are not familiar with Chinese. Even the menu has Chinese characters for sizes with no English equivalent. You can notice this by the fact that the sign above the entrance has the name only in Chinese and the English only reads "Chinese restaurant" which is too broad for a name if one asks me. The waitresses were not very helpful either. I saw no welcoming smile or explanations.

They keep bringing trolleys (carts) with the Dim Sums around; but if you're not familiar with Dim Sums, lots of luck to you choosing! Your best guide is the appearance of the food which is mostly wrapped or rolled and therefore most look alike. The waitress had a very thick accent which did not help.

In terms of the atmosphere the Dragon Palace and Canton Bay restaurants top this easily. I hated the very unstable table that we had. The table was rocking very easily.

The food is overpriced and the prices are not included in the menu.

Overall I don't recommend this place, even if Dim Sum is your type of dish.

Hubby and I went to this place for dim sum today and we were very pissed off. We wanted to go to the one next door but it was absolutely packed. We didn't want to wait half an hour for a table so we went to this one instead as we could find a table instantly. Food was ok, we spent $48.5 and we were quite full. Service was not so good though.

At the end we know why this place is only 70% full during Saturday lunch hours while the one next door was completely full. They do not accept cards unless it's over $50. Apparently there is a small and blurry note next to the cashier saying "cash only below $50". We asked if we could pay by card and we didn't mind the extra surcharges, they refused in a very rude manner. They made us feel it's "our fault" we didn't read this small note when we came in. Well, I mean nowadays you can paypass when buying a $12 noodle soup in a food court we really didn't expect to see a decent restaurant to have such "rule". (This cash thing looks very dodgy to us. Hubby is an accountant, he knows by taking cash you can easily avoid paying tax as there is no official transaction record.) Luckily we have got cash otherwise will be very embarrassing.

We will never go to this place again. Hate this kind of dodgy business.
Perth Foodaholic
My beautiful cousin who now lives in Melbourne came over for a holiday recently to celebrate turning fort-… I mean… 20 (twice). We had a family dinner here which consisted of 30+ people spread over 3 tables. Food came out in no particular order and wasn’t timed (1 table would get a couple of dishes while the other tables had to wait some time). It was a bit chaotic to be honest. But at least the food was nice. I particularly loved the crispy skin almond chicken with prawn paste which is a dish we order on special occasions. It’s quite a labor intensive dish and therefore a bit pricey but soooooo worth it. Other dishes we ordered (I couldn’t take photos because everyone on my table was so hungry) were: honey chicken, garlic prawns, salt and pepper spare rib, birds nest, fried rice and a few others. Overall it was a decent experience. I have been here a few times before, a couple years ago now, for weddings as well as dim sum. My family used to eat here back in the day when the place was called Chau’s Teahouse. I have also been back for dim sum since it has been changed to Northbridge Chinese Restaurant and the dim sum here is really nice (I will need to write a blog for it when I come next time).
One Tonne Experience
Without being spectacular, still one of the better dimsum places around Perth at the moment. Thank goodness Perthies are blessed with great dimsum.

Would suggest the har gao, siu mai, fong zhou, spare ribs and soup dumplings (all pictured below) which are staple normal dimsum orders.

Found the taste to be well balanced which a few places miss the mark. Not overly salty that is and the sweeter dishes are overly sweet either. These guys seems to know what they are doing.

I’d come back again for sure.
Eric Mu
I had been there many times for dim sim as well as seafood dinner. The food is outstanding, good variety of dim sim, fresh and professionally cooked seafood. However, they need to renew their restaurant, when I walk inside, it feels like you walk back in 1980s!
Umut Özkalfa
One of the worst service I've ever seen in my entire life but dim sum taste is not bad. I wouldn't suggest you to go there if you want chill breakfast or lunch but if you just like dim sum this restaurant wouldn't be that bad choice.
Imoo
Try their soy sauce scallops, homemade tofu, and sautéed beef dish. It's always packed with people during the weekends, so be sure to book before making a trip here! Fuzzyeo

We love it, tried many different Yum Cha's but always come back to here. Authentic, friendly and well priced!! Highly recommend! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

The service was perhaps one of the worst I've experienced. The staff were obviously getting ready to go and were abrupt with taking our order and demanding we pay the bill while we were eating. It was disappointing because the food was fairly tasty. Multiple staff hovered around our table waiting for us to finish and started taking plates we were clearly still eating from. Not tasty enough to go again. I wish they had just said the kitchen was closed wheb we arrived.

The pork bone soup was good😀
And the lobster noodles were ok😐
But the honey pepper beef was to sweet😥
The fried fish was to boney😢
But it was ok😐

Quick and Dirty

Very disappointing overall at the yum cha.
Pros:
Super fast service and food
Relatively cheap
Authenticity

Cons:
Bad service
Hit and miss food
Dirty table and utensils

Table was dirty when I arrived When I asked for a knife, it came to me dirty!!
Food was hit and miss, squid fresh and tasty , prawn dumpling very nice also. Yam dumpling very bad, pork bun overly sweet, mediocre.

Food was very fast and staff were a bit pushy. The staff didn't really understand English that well and it felt authentic in a way. Really unfriendly staff wam bam thank you mam, in and out. Its not that I have high standards but it is not that hard to give reasonable service.

Food 2.5/5
service 1/5

Coming off a cruise we had dinner here on a Saturday night and came back for yum Cha on Monday morning.

The place was busy and we can see all
The staff are coping but just. The lady boss had to do the cashiering, serving and of all things fishing out the lobsters herself!!

Most things are average. Service, food quality and quantity and the price. I don't mind going back there. Still better than most restaurants in box hill and Doncaster areas of Melbourne.

Used to be one of our regular places but not anymore. The waitress kept recommending expensive dishes in the past few times and it really ticks me off when they kept messing with our bills. There was once that the manager over charged us $50. Keep an eye on your bills people....
C Felton
Very poor service. Long wait. Order was wrong and no attempt was made to fix it. Expensive for what you get.

As we entered there was no welcome, we were just shooed along to awkwardly walk around others tables until we were spotted and seated.

After ordering an entrée we tried to order our mains twice, the servers didn't understand and made no attempt to get help. We finally got someone to take our order and after a long wait the food came out wrong, Again they didn't understand and just brought the same food out and said " that's ok". After so much confusion and waiting we couldn't argue and just accepted the food. The rice came out very last when we were nearly finished eating.

While some of the food was good (the squid was cooked perfectly) and the menu is very promising, the overall experience was thoroughly unenjoyable. If the chef had even semi competent service staff and management, it could be a very good Chinese restaurant.
We went to Northbridge Chinese Restaurant for dinner with a big group and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is always bustling and combined with many delicious dishes to choose from, makes for great spot to have a satisfying dinner. They are very popular for dimsum in the day time, as there is always a line up at weekend lunch. Service is generally good but being so busy and noisy, sometimes you need to make yourself known to get some attention.
Superfoodie
Food was very delicious and authentic Hong Kong style. This place has always been our family's and friends favourite when it comes to dim sum and Chinese dishes. We have been coming here for years and not a single time it 'd disappoint us. Always come early on weekends to avoid the queue.
Renato
It's hard to beat yum cha on a hungover Sunday and this bustling restaurant hits the spot. The prawn dumplings and BBQ pork buns are delicious. The crispy squid legs are nice but need more salt and the pork dumplings were a little lacking in flavour. Will come back all the same.
William Ooi
Its famous for yum Cha and it's generally always busy have to up. I love the rice porridge it's way better than oat porridge savoury and a palate cleanser. Century egg one is the best. How eye here they serve only big bowls which equates to 4 normal bowls so be warned. The yum Cha is of decent standard here. They do all the yum Cha dishes well but limited range and note I note as speciality.
EpicureanBogan
Dim sum coma....so happy!

It has been a while since I last ate at Northbridge Chinese Restaurant. Agree with other reviewers about long wait, mediocre service and watermelon lady doing the hard-sell but it was worth it.

Faves include plump Har-Gow, radish cake, and a bunch of weekend only tasty morsels. Not the cheapest nor the most expensive but worth it IMHO.
Williespants
Still one of my favourite dimsum joints in Perth. They are always busy and I'm not surprised. I think they've been pretty consistent with their dishes and reasonably priced too. My favourites from this place is the egg tarts, pineapple buns and the deep fried prawn dumplings with mayo sauce. Their steamed dumpling are yummy, but I don't like their deep fried squid tentacles. Overall a good feed here.
The Current Munchie
After being shortchanged of money many years back, I have had my reservations about coming back to this establishment. But after constant ravings by the Ma, I decided to oblige (afterall, it was a free meal from the folks!), and we headed to the Northbridge Chinese Restaurant as part of “good luck for your new job” treat.
Pandalora
Love the food, not fine dining and very noisy but good value for money. Don't expect to much furniture wise, comfortable and very relaxed. Casual dining.

Came here for an easy Friday lunch with colleagues. Impressed on most fronts: delicious food which just keeps coming on those little trolleys and everything nice and fresh! My only complaint was that woman with the watermelon juice - I already told her three times I wasn't interested but sure enough, every time she strolled past our table she eye - balled me from 20 metres away and asked AGAIN. In the end it was cheap. My favourite was the pork bun.
Adam
Consistently the best dim sum experience and the most reliable. At a point in my life I came here almost every month with varying sizes of groups, and I've found that having a large group (12+) gets you in easier during peak time. But if you don't have that many, who cares, because the food is very good. The standards (har gow, siu mai, BBQ pork buns, xiao long baos etc) are all very well executed and I've never been disappointed. Watermelon juice lady will always ask you if you want watermelon juice, and honestly, in the ~80 times I've been over the last 7 years, I've only said yes once. Sorry watermelon juice lady, I'm just not feeling it most of the time...

I am going to split my review to 2 section because let's be honest: the food are really great! In fact this place is one my favorite dimsum places in Perth. Awesome dimsum, great food with plenty of choices, they all taste pretty good. Loves the xiao long bao and really really loves the baked salted egg yolk bun - it's realy worth the wait! Prices are decent too.

But with awesome dimsum comes the long queue (average of half hour plus every sunday afternoon I visit), hectic atmosphere (most busy period you share table with other customers, long waiting time for ordered items (sometimes you have to reorder and reorder again because staffs may forgot!). So there is a downside to the service of this delicious dimsum place.

What's the verdict? Come early to beat the rush hour. If you don't mind waiting, then go for it! And seriously, their baked egg yolk bun is awesome.
Caleb Mudhan
Service was pretty shitty from the start. First interaction was a yelling of "we don't do dim sum at this time" then a yelling out of the same thing as we were walking to our table. Tea was great. Food didn't justify the price. Waiter didn't know how to laugh. I recommend hitting up billy lees if anyone is looking for decent Chinese food late at night.
Vink
We went here in a small group for dim sum on Anzac Day. Atmosphere was typical for a dim sum place, hectic, hectic and hectic 💀💀💀 Very noisy and crowded. The food was pretty good, had the usual stuff like prawn dumplings, tofu rolls, flour rolls, chicken feet 😮, tripes and radish cake. Was super surprised the total price was $82 for 4 people. That included a 10% public holiday surcharge.
The Urban Bento
Came for yumcha lunch on a weekday remembering this used to be amazing. Sadly whilst it was full the food didn't live up to the old standard... esp the salted egg yolk buns which were an oily mess! So disappointing!
Melinda
Been coming here for years, and every time we have the best yum Cha, the dumplings have always been delicious and up to scratch and is my favourite place to go whenever I'm hankering for some old fashion dim sum, the service however is on and off

Came here for lunch with the family on Saturday. Took a while to get in as there was a queue. This place is as busy as. We haven't been to this dim sum place for a while now and I always remember that it serves great dim sum. After we managed to sit down, a mature lady staff wheeling the cart came to us. We were very impressed with her customer service. She was chatty and recommended dishes to us in a pleasant manner. She was way better than the other younger staff in the restaurant. We took the usual stuff that we normally eat and had the durian mochi which the lady recommended. The mochi came in a set of 3 and we really liked it as the mochi skin was thin yet chewy and inside was the durian cream with real durian pieces. One thing that disappointed us was the porridge or congee. It was too thick unlike how it should be serve. When we scooped it up with the spoon, the congee literally clung onto the spoon and not drizzle down. Everything we ordered was spot on except for this. Still, this is a great dim sum place and I hope next time we come, that pleasant mature lady would still be around to serve us.
FineDiners
Super efficient service as they're usually quite busy for dim sum lunch. As soon as you sit down they pretty much wheel the trolley of the various dim sum or walk with a tray of food to you within a few minutes, great if you're hungry. Sometimes they'll ask if you want the same thing a few times when they come around with the trolley or tray again, but all you have to do is say no if you don't want any of what you see. We ordered everything in the pictures for two people and we were very full, so much that we had a couple of dumplings and an egg tart left over.
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
I came here at night time I asked for the dumpling she told me we don't do In the evening so I ordered veggies and looked els where, I'll come back during the day to try there dumplings as Iv heard there meant to be amazing. Food was ok
Joanna
I went to Northbridge Chinese restaurant with my family for Chinese New Year and had the CNY banquet. Even though it was really busy, dishes were delicious and staff were attentive and brought out the dishes quite quickly. The highlight was the lobster and noodles, steamed fish and crabmeat soup. The lion dance was entertaining, I'd definitely will come back for more.

I started a new job at the beginning of the new year and within a week I knew I had found some fellow foodies. We are all interested in cooking and eating, so a lot of our conversations revolve around what we ate, what we are eating and what we plan to eat. It’s fantastic! For a Friday lunch, a few of my colleagues and I decided to cross the train tracks to gorge ourselves on dim sum in Northbridge.
Rick
This review is based on dinner service. We ordered three dishes firstly salted egg yolk fried squid. Batter was not doughy but the salted egg yolk was not quite there. My co-pilot stressed they could not taste the salted egg yolk. To their benefit the squid was cooked perfectly. My tip, never order this for a two party dinner.

Second dish was stewed tooth fish with eggplant. Sadly due to the oiliness and outside texture having that tried look and feel. Also should have known egg plant cooks quicker if it's fried.

Third dish, this was our Savior! Steam chicken with mushroom and veg. I took a piece of chicken and had a little bit of chicken on the bone. Fair enough I thought I would be luckier next go. I did not get bone but that piece on the back of the chicken below the breast which was not quite the meat that you eat of the chicken or maybe it was not meat:0 basically most pieces were chunk of bones. I had to pull out some bone shards from my mouth discreetly. This dish was also quite oily and came with canned shiitake and champion mushroom. Really should reconsider the usage of the word stewed.

Then came the complimentary oranges. This indeed was the Savior, sweet yet with the citric juices to cut a bit of the oiliness of the food.

Not sure if this is the standard offering to the average Joe. But I never stop wandering had I spoken Cantonese would the experience have been better.

They also had to move us to another table due to another bigger party arriving. With that I was fine with but sadly service is old school Cantonese school. In HK I even get the floor manager coming over for a chit chat and making sure we were enjoying our meal.

There you go that's why I gave my score. In saying that I saw the reviews and I grant that maybe we could also have ordered the wrong dishes. For example the specialty chicken. From the picture I see a decent piece of chicken.

However my thoughts tend to stick with me. Will I ever come again? Maybe, also will prepare to ensure we order right. But really thinking that we should have gone to HK BBQ house and be giving a better review. But then there is always Malaysian:D
Some Like It Hot
Booked a table for Saturday night for four people. The place is pretty big and was packed out. I had come here for dim sum so was disappointed to find that they don't serve this in the evenings 😔. Anyway we ordered dim sum platter (only option) which consisted of fish cakes, prawn toast and spring rolls. The prawn toast was good but the rest average. My friend ordered the garlic prawns and I have to say they were very good. The baked prawns in xo sauce were not a good as I'd hoped, not much flavour albeit the prawns themselves were nice. My vegetarian friend struggled with the choices and opted for salted egg yolk eggplant which was nice enough and my other friend had the steamed toothfish which was ok but have some bones. The spare ribs in Peking sauce were a bit hit and miss also. Some fatty and some with little bones in them. When asking for water make sure you specify that you want tap water as they bring out bottled and are displeased when you don't want this. Overall a disappointing first Chinese food experience in Perth. Wouldn't return to this one. Has byo with a corkage of a dollar per head.

Good foods, reasonable pricing and fast serving but it can get very busy especially on the weekend and parking can be a bit difficult to find.
Erica Lim
Service was absolutely horrible. Went there on the second day of Chinese New Year, so the whole place was extremely packed. Got looked down upon by the waitress lady when we ordered 3 dishes for the four of us. Heard her murmuring: "Not going to give them a table if I knew". Absolutely shocking. Never going back there again.
Asian's Taste
This place is nice for dim sum(lunch) and dinner too..most of their food are delicious.
In term of the service..you need to put your hands up several times and then someone will attend to your request, so you need to be a little bit patient😉😉😉
Helen Suhalim
One of my fav dim sum places in Perth :) good, delicious food and the service is always quick! Their Salted Egg Yolk Bun is a must try! And I always always get their watermelon juice each time I visit!
Hippo309
The specialty chicken is always so consistently good! It's absolutely delicious! Their specialty tofu is good too, but decided to try the sizzling Japanese tofu tonight. It was really yummy too!

My favourite Chinese restaurant in Perth, I've been coming here for so many birthdays, large family gatherings, dates, catch-up with mates etc. It's the perfect setting and the food is always tasty and of very high quality. I've noticed the portions have increased (probably due to increasing competition and the falling economy) although prices have stayed the same.

Although you may be offended by their service, it's typical of a Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong, I suggest you go elsewhere if you're looking for 5 star service i.e. Silks. My fave dish is the honey pepper beef fillet (never had anything which comes close in Perth). Be sure to have some water ready after you finish your meal though, you get really thirsty from the salt/MSG!

Time for Yum Cha! Off we went to our place to go in Northbridge but a new restaurant was in its place. Then I remembered a friend said their fav Yum Cha place is Northbridge Chinese Restaurant.
We went around 1130am, so we got a seat straight away. This place you do have to que up to get a seat.
As you can see from the picture we got the following:
Siu mai: fresh, plumpy and tasty.
Chicken feet: I didnt really enjoy the taste but that may be due to the fact that it wasn't cooked properly. Very tough, not tender like it should be.
Deep fried prawn dumpling: generous serve of prawns in the dumplings. Outside was cooked very well. It was crispy.
Prawn flour roll: i don't eat this as i think it's too much rice flour, however my wife likes it. She said it wasn't soggy and done well compared to other places.
Radish cake: best we have found so far in Perth. Light crispyness on the outside and soft on the inside. I don't like Radish or Yam cakes but i liked this dish.
Salted egg bun: Very different to how other places do this dish. It's baked or something like that, not steamed. Dish of the day for me.
I would only be back for the Salted egg bun and get that take away. I asked 2 different wait staff for squid tentacles but never recieved it. If your Chinese and can speak the language, i think all your dishes will come to your table and without mistakes. If you can't speak thier language, just enjoy what is on offer on the carts.
Jojostar
Possibly the best lao sar bao (egg yolk custard bun) I've ever had.
Vivian LI
My favourite dim sum place! The egg tart, and all the traditional dim sum. Tea, prawn dumpling, chicken claws, spare ribs... Etc...! Never enough!
Facebook User
Lovely spot, great service, the selection however is predominantly pork based and I don't eat pork... A bit of seafood, no chicken offered. My friends tell me the food was great and the few things I could eat were pretty good. If you don't eat pork maybe try somewhere else or you may be disappointed.
Robyn
Simply put, my favourite place for yumcha. I have been coming here as long as I can remember, and they really set the bar for anywhere else I try.

Never change
Herman Wong
Services and food are bad, waiters just want to sell their food as much as they can,no facial expression on their face
Food had been travelling around the would so many times until they get old/dry or sell to customer
Cherikstony
This place has the best yum Cha in Perth! And the best tasting yum Cha I've had in Australia! Yes, it tasted better than all those fancy Chinese restaurants in Sydney. This is the go-to place for a quick late lunch after tutorials for my friends and I. The services are great if you know what you are doing and what you want to order. Because although they don't have hidden menus like so many other Asian restaurants, they do offer to cook whatever you want, even if they are random dishes that are not on the menu! We always get the stir fried Gai Lan with garlic and fermented tofu, definitely tastes better than the normal Gai Lan with oyster sauce! do not be afraid, go crazy with your orders, the chefs know what they are doing! The food simply amazing and ingredients are fresh. This restaurant has a very good reputation among the Chinese community too!

We've been going to Northbridge Chinese for dim sum lunch for years, usually on a Friday. This was our first time for some months but it didn't let us down. It is consistently the best dim sum we've found yet in Perth. The food always seems fresh and tasty. The quality is good. Communication is sometimes a bit iffy, but there are some staff with reasonable English. Not really a problem, it just adds to the atmosphere - a little bit of Hong Kong in Perth. The table service is always friendly and efficient. The whole thing seems a bit chaotic but the food comes out and you never have to wait for long. You can BYO wine. My one criticism is that there are no itemised bills and dim sum prices only seem to be listed in Chinese script so you have no idea whether you are being charged for what you actually had! And if you question it they can get quite agitated and abrupt. I'm sure there are laws about this. But we'll keep going. It's our favourite dim sum house.
Emily Tan
It's one of the better dimsum place in Perth. Efficient service and the food was served in reasonable time even they are busy. Their dinner menu was not too bad. However, a few of the waitresses there are a little abrupt when serving.
AngMohAsian
This is one of the better places for dim sum. I've been to many places in northbridge, and not many get you in the door in a reasonable about of time and also serve up dim sum that is still plentiful as well as good. Prices are adequate. It's tight in the morning, so prepared to be a little uncomfortable, but the food is great.
John Doe
Best dim sum in perth. Best to get in early on the weekends or late in the afternoon. Food is always fast and fresh. Their baked egg yolk buns keep me coming back for me!
Omnomnomnivore
This place is a regular one for my family.. And many other Chinese families in Perth! This place is always busy, and for good reason: really good food at reasonable prices. The sizzling tofu and spare ribs are always favourites for us, but I've yet to eat anything there where I've gone 'meh'. Sunday lunch dim sum is also excellent; definitely the best in Perth in my mind. A star off though for the service, which is generally rushed and kind of gruff.

I have been here numerous times for the Yum Cha over the years and am never disappointed. All of the dumplings and dishes that we order are tasty, fresh, and hot. Very nice custard tarts, dumplings and crispy squid! Also, it seems to be one of the few restaurants in Perth that make the braised beef tendon dish, and it's done well here too.
The staff were polite and efficient - food trolleys came around quite regularly, and tea was topped up quickly.

My first dim sum experience. I didn't have a dish I didn't enjoy and wish I could have tried more. Everything tastes fresh. A menu would have been nice of some info on dishes so I didn't have just pick what look good.

Visited with my parents for lunch and this place is very busy but staff are fast and hard working. Food quality was not too great though and I agree with those who prefer Dragon Palace.
Tom
Warning.. This place over charges!!
A friend warned me that they overcharge so I was careful and remembered prices. When I went to pay my $92 I was told its $102. I asked for a breakdown and they charged me and extra $4 for the rice extra $2 for fish and a honest miscalculation of another $4.
They argued that the price in menu is only approximate and does change often. I argued that they should only charge what is listed. They never said sorry and made me feel bad for complaining..
Never going back.
Read other comments confirming the same.
P.S. Food was ok,but service was poor..

Went there in a Saturday noon without reservation, queued for a long time. Began with some dim sums, which is a slight inferior compared with Dragon Palace but still authentic and delicious, main dishes were great. The problem is one of staff with food trolley who kept add foods on our table regardless wether we want them or not, saying just try it you will like it! Put foods on the table and left. Those dim sum tasted not bad but made us feel uncomfortable.
FARMERdroo
great food
my friend had his wedding there
food was awesome especially the fried quail and almond chicken

not like most Chinese restaurants where you expect gluey food, everything tasted nice and fresh

they also do delicious dim sum for lunch
great place

Now to address the issue of the chicken feet, as it inevitably comes up sooner or later when discussing dim sum. Personally, I’ve not been game enough to try them, but felt I got away with it as none of the Asian friends I was there with liked them either. However, if you’re a fan or are brave enough to have a go then please let me know what it’s all about and I’ll consider taking the plunge on my next visit. Beyond that, the only thing to say is that the service isn’t great judging by normal standards, as in you’ll generally wait a long time for thing such as chilli oil or more tea and probably have to ask more than one person, but it’s all part of the hectic fun of the place, so don’t dwell on it too much, and as soon as your first dumpling explodes in your mouth like an oriental flavour bomb you’ll forget all about it anyway.

I used to love coming here until my last visit when seated near the kitchen I watched in horror as a staff member preparing squid tentacles dropped a raw squid on the floor then just bent down and placed it back with the rest of the squid. It was more the poor practice than a fear of food-borne illness (it was about to be cooked in hot oil after all). However poor practice in one part of the kitchen may well mean the same in other sections so it turned me right off - sad because otherwise I always enjoyed yum cha here and have otherwise considered in one of the best in Perth.
I hope they pick up there game as I will probably be back!
Nat's Visitations
Whenever I get a Dim Sum craving, I come here! I love Dim Sum and I have got to say that it's got to be one of the most legit places in Perth. It's much more affordable if you compare it to other places in Northbridge. So for the price you pay and for the amazing standard of food you get, it's a great deal! However, the soft shell crab is the only dish I will never order again because it was mostly flour and it was very soggy (soaked with oil) when it was served to me so that put me off ever ordering it again. But, everything else was delish!
The Food Enthusiasts
Northbridge Chinese Restaurant is very popular for Yum Cha in the asian community and amongst asian families. This also one of Jiaxin's favourite family traditions. They serve traditional Dim Sum dishes on the trolley and to order as well. This is like tapas but a whole lot cheaper with each dish ranging from $5 to $7 filled with succulent asian delights!
Regular Diner
Takes me back to China. A group of 8 dined at the Northbridge Chinese Restaurant last week. The food, service and ambience reminded me of my 12 years living in China. We ordered a range of dishes including chicken, steamed fish (steamed in a typical Chinese fashion), lobster (the piece de resistance) and several vegetable dishes. All reminded me of dining in southern Guangdong province and all were very good. People expecting an el cheapo Chinese meal would be disappointed as this is high quality food and, as with any other cuisine, is relatively expensive. That being said I figure it provides good value for money particularly compared to other places in Perth, the overpriced capital of the world.

Worst dining and rip-off We have ever experienced. Last night we experienced what was simultaneously the worst rip off and worst dining experience ever.

A group of us thought we would grab some nice (reasonably priced) Chinese in Northbridge, so booked a table for 8 at the imaginatively named "Northbridge Chinese Restaurant (26 Roe St.) Firstly, we had to wait at the entrance for 10 minutes, where various surly Chinese men were kind enough to let us passively smoke their cigarettes. Each time a waitress passed by and we asked when our table would be ready she ignored us. Eventually they graciously seated us on a table clearly meant for 4 people, right near the smokers at the entrance. When we were eventually served about 10 minutes after being seated, the kids were so tired and hungry that we just picked a few things that sounded ok, as when we asked the waitress any questions she spontaneously lost command of the English language/pretended not to hear. One of these items was "Singaporean Chilli Crab" (Exhibit A).

After ordering we noticed that the crab had no price next to it on the menu, which is never a good sign. We chuckled that we were going to get the bill and be stung for $50 or $60 bucks. After 45 minutes we finally received our dinner, which was OK (not terrible, not amazing) and, not wishing to partake of the alluring ambience of the toilets that smelled suspiciously like a dead body was stashed any longer, we got up to pay. Upon which we found that, for around six menu items (fried rice, noodles, that kind of thing, plus Exhibit A) we were to be charged $380. After being revived by a defibrillator, I was informed that this was due to the fact that the crab dish costs $240 (not a typo).

My issue is not with the price. We operate in a free market after all. However if you are going to sell one of Australia's most expensive main courses, I feel it would be ethical to either put a price guide (and mention that you may need to provide 3 payslips before ordering) or to point out a rough price (maybe after weighing the crab or something) and tell people what they should expect. Sorry for the long-winded post. I will be putting a duplicate on Urban Spoon for good measure. See below picture I made up so you can be sure to avoid.

Had a booking and couldnt dine here.

Very nice dim sum. The yum cha here should not be disappointed. I recalled the real taste of dim sum in Hong Kong. We didn't try all the dim sum but the chicken feet is the best, 10 out of 10.
Appleair1
Most authentic Hong Kong yumcha. I won't dare say its the best. But its the closest Hong Kong style than many in Northbridge that sways towards China Guangzhou style. reasonably priced which explains why its always packed.
Wolfchild99
The dinner experience I had last night just ruined my positive image on their dim sum. My bf and I go there for dim dum quite often, despite their poor service, the dim sum taste quite good. We are Chinese btw. Last night we went there for dinner with a friend. We ordered a lobster and some other dishes. The waitress tried to sell us a 3kg lobster, and I said it's too big we can't finish it since there were only 3 of us. Then the service attitude went down from poor to bad because we insist to have a smaller lobster. And I have no idea what's went on in the kitchen, we waited for a long time for every dish, even for rice!!! Everything is salty except the lobster. I still can't feel my tongue today! Won't go there for dinner again!
Brianjonathananthony
Not bad , slightly pricey with less than average portions. I have been common visitor of this restaurant , the portions of the food has decreased from what it used to be . The price has increased as we'll .

In regards to the food i would give it 7/10 . It's a good restaurant to have a big group come together for dinner though .
Eatingspoons
Excellent. Still the best yum cha in Northbridge. The only down side is that it takes a long time to get in on weekends...which is very Hong Kong and authentic. The cost has gone up since I was last there but way better than dragon palace which is where we went for a while. The rice flour roll are the best. The dumpling skins could be softer, but I've yet to find a better dumpling in northbridge. The century egg porridge is also a winner and the coconut pudding. It is definitely worth the wait and the girl at the door does well. If you want to know what is good dim sum, just see where all the Chinese people go.
Silvia L Tan
The service has declined lots esp the girl that give the waiting ticket number. We waited for half hour for 5 people w the others as its long queue for fathers day. Then there are group of 5 and 2 kids came and the girl straight away gave them the table (table close to the door &can fit 5 people)When i ask the girl why they just came and get the table straight away she told because they are bigger group? EXCUSE me I have been eating in ur rest quite often and sit on the table that u given before that usually for 5 instead of 7? Stupid girl thats why the queue getting longer as she is not gd by rotating people in the restaurant. The uncle that previously doing that much fair and smarter than u. Soon ur business will be go down.
Eeorebear
Terrible service, we were kicked out because others were waiting for a table. We spent about $150 ++ but as soon as we finished the dessert after all the nibbles. I only just started to breastfeed my two months old baby too. The old lady took all the dirty dishes and told us they're 13 people waiting for the table we're sitting. I felt how rude it's for someone to tell us to leave the table as we're the customers. So be warned, rude people in the restaurant. :(

Best Dim Sum in Perth!!. In short, this is the best place for dim sum in Perth. All the food came out fresh and quickly with all the flavours perfect. Service is quite good if you consider how packed the restaurant is. There must be a reason why the place has a lot more people than next door every time I have walked past. It's not that people are stupid but it's because the food is at such a high quality at a very reasonable price.
Winson1751
Good Food & Well Priced!. I brought my family for Yum Cha on a Saturday at about 11:30am. There is already a small line outside but surprising only took us about 10-15mins wait. Waitress was quick to serve us food, tried Scallop dumpling, deep fried squid, BBQ Port Bun and lots more. Food is great and no wonder this restaurant is so busy! Will definitely come back for more.

Regular for Dim Sum & Dinner. I have been to this restaurant for many times for both lunch and dinner; I have to say food is much better than most of the Chinese restaurants in Perth. Not only that, their portion is very generous and the seafood there (i.e. Snowcrab, Lobsters, Fish etc) are amazingly fresh and tasty. I don't found any bad service at all, in fact, the staff collecting our empty plates or dim sum baskets quite frequently and never see the baskets or finished plates piling up. Owner is very friendly and quite talkative. She would ask us about the food and give recommendation that suits our family. Weekend is very very busy and you can tell from the long line up of people waiting of a table. I actually suspect lots of negative feedbacks are come from competitors as there is clear contrast if you can compare the line to the restaurants nearby and it's not hard to see how much busier this restaurant is compared to others. In short, great food and good service!

WORST SERVICE EVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE I AM SITTING HERE WAITING FOR AN HOUR! we asked the waitress where our food was as we waited an hour and she snapped back at us and said 'one hour? HA' then walked off. Are you kidding me this is possibly the worst customer service i have EVER experienced in my entire life. The food is good but too bad customer service is so terrible. These people should learn manners its so disgraceful for a chinese. ALSO everytime we go and pay, they ALWAYS charge us extra $10 or so. If we go in a big group they charge us about $40
It is so bad i cannot even explain. CUSTOMERS please make sure you check your bill
Lindyloo06
Worst Chinese. Went there last night for dinner and would have to say its the worst chinese ive ever eaten, very bland anf the seafood dish was full of raw onion and hardly any seafood.
Waitresses are All rude. Will not go there again.
Acepuppy-96
Better options available. The service is poorer than the standard Asian restaurant-which is saying something. We had to wait 20 minutes despite making a booking and arriving on time. I know that the restaurant was busy, but to carelessly place the food dishes down displays a lack of thought for the customers. Be wary as they also tend to overcharge you and make you pay for things you didn't even order! We managed to get back $8 for a small amount of white rice we didn't even order, but I suspect that they added other costs that I didn't know about since myself and a companion of mine did a total which was still under the final charged amount.

In terms of food, there really are better options out there. The food was of a barely satisfactory level and not of good value. I've been to other restaurants where I can get a better quality for what I'd paid for, or go to a cheaper restaurant with the same quality food.

All in all, my family has decided against dining at this restaurant ever again.
Astroian
Quality Chinese food, hectic restaurant. This is a great restaurant providing you speak Chinese. The staff are okay but the food is very good. I've no complaints about the restaurant overall. I've never had rude staff there in over 100 trips to the restaurant and I'm a western guy. Some of the foods won't appeal much to the causal western diner or most of the foodies, for example jellied jelly fish tentacles which to the average westerner tastes like eating cold snot.

The decor is basic but clean and food is of a good quality overall. I enjoy going there.

My day was spoilt by a very rude waitress at this restaurant today. We ordered some food and after a while my friends who are overseas visitors asked if I had ordered a specific dish ,I got up from the table to ask the waitress if I could have the dish as well. She snapped and told me that I did not have to order twice.I told her that she did not have to be so rude. And guess what... I did not get the tofu fa that I ordered and did not mention twice....so be warned....rude.. .and I am paying not begging for food. Another thing is they kept talking to me in Chinese even after I said So sorry I can not speak Chinese. What ??????
LM
Service at this restaurant was seemingly good at first. Once we sat down , it was a totally different experience - they waitresses were rude and took forever to refill our Chinese tea. When we went to pay, I asked for the bill - she refused to give me a copy at first and then finally did. Once we got home, I realized they had overcharged us by $8.20. It is not a very large amount, but imagine if they did that for every table. I will not return to this restaurant.

Authentic Dim Sum & good food with reasonable price. This is one of the best dim sum restaurants in Perth. Good food with reasonable prices.

Most dishes are great and the owners are very experienced and honest. Can't go wrong when dinning at this place.

You could even ask to modified some dishes to your dietary requirements, they will oblige.

Worth a try, if you have not been. You will not be disappointed:)

Overall it’s quite alright.. On the first Sunday of March a group of my friends decided we’d get together for dim-sum/yum-cha in Northbridge. We all have our favourite places, but the host decided we’d visit Northbridge Chinese Restaurant which I had yet to visit. We somehow managed to reserve a table for 13 people for 11:00am which I'm told is not common. A few of our guests were running late so we kept getting asked to move and whether out guests were going to arrive. After a while the employees got so persistent and pushy about it we couldn’t work out why they were so desperate to kick us off our table even though most of us were there. What we eventually worked out was that the person who took the booking thought we’d said 30 people, so they were holding 3 big tables for us whilst the crowd waiting outside kept growing. Needless to say we all laughed it off and the serves all apologised for the misunderstanding.

After we resolved that issue we really had a wonderful time. The food kept flowing, and every server stopped at our table to ask if we wanted what they had to offer. We ended up completely stuffing ourselves with a variety of tasty dishes from BBQ pork buns to various dumplings, desserts and even chicken feet. We ended up paying just under paid $27 each for our share of food and drinks which was very reasonable with the amount of food we ordered. I’ve had quite a few dim-sum/yum-cha experiences throughout Perth and I can honestly say that Northbridge Chinese Restaurant is quite up there when it comes to the food and service. I’ll be putting it in my top 5 as I have had experienced slightly better food before (I judge this on the quality of squid tentacles which were quite hard and gummy, though the various steamed dumplings were good), but overall it’s quite a good yum-cha/dim-sum place.

Rubbish night out. The staff were so aggressively rude and abrupt it was funny. Servings were small. Some of the crockery could have done with a wash. When we went to pay the price looked high. An enquiry about the cost was not well received, or answered. Are they allowed not to give you a receipt? One good event was the a bizarre incident were part way through the evening a very large eel, kept in a fish tank, escaped and started flapping around on the floor. This brought about much shrieking and laughter.

Colourful, noisy, busy, good food - a great Chinese New Year Experience. Couldn't believe the amount of food that they were bringing out of the kitchen - just the challenge of organisation was something to think about.

Negatives - I can't eat Shellfish so there was limited choice on the banquet menu. However I still had sufficient to eat - just less choice.

The lady at the reception was a bit rude - obviously the pressure of trying to get everyone seated etc was pretty big but she really didn't have any customer service.

Whether I'd go there for a normal meal - I'm not sure but it certainly was a great Chinese New Year celebration. So, thanks.

JJ21WA. Wow. I am truly amazed. I have been to many places - from third world places to classy fine dining around the globe.

This place is special.

A truly outstanding place.

I have never, repeat never been to a place where I felt the customer service was so outstandingly.... OFFENSIVE. Their hostility to customers, their brashness in speech, their refusal to speak any language other than Cantonese, their disdain for any reasonable requests and their rapidly worsening quality of food mean this place has urged me to finally place a review on Urbanspoon.

I am a doctor by profession, and I don't have any affiliations with any restaurants - so I have nothing to gain and nothing to lose really :).

But to save you all the experience not worth your hard pennies I'm compelled to write this.

We ordered a banquet for my mother-in-law's 60th. Basically $55-$60/head, for ten people. We ordered: fish, lobster, abalone... you know... just wanting to make the night special for family. Wow. We arrived, and greeted my mother-in-law with a hug and we were told by two different waitresses to "sit down." We just arrived and wanted to greet a hello and hug to our family and we were told to sit down!? C'mon??? Are they for real?

Then, they begin the churning out of dishes... we were done in an hour. Now that's probably not bad for fast food... but it sure was a rush job. We felt like cattle being herded to the exit sign. Not bad I guess.... $550 for an hour from a single table.

We had a plastic cup/drinking bottle for our son that they told us, to move in to the middle table (although it wasn't even close to falling off), or they'd take it away. For real? It's not even theirs... it's a child's water bottle.

C'mon... this service is not passive, careless... but somewhat aggressive and hostile.

There's no need for such.

And yes, the food isn't horrific, but it sure ain't fantastic either. The service will give you a tummy ache and my advice... avoid the nasty experience.
Shankala
This place is going downhill real fast. The quality of dim sum is really low(dry, oily, poorly cooked) and utensils are unhygienic(oily, stained etc). Adding to the unpleasant dining experience, the manager(s) are rude, treating their customers like cattle and obviously they do not care one bit on service as long as they make a profit. The lady on the register made an insulting remark to us thinking we couldn't understand Chinese, well, big mistake! I told her off on the spot she didn't even dare apologise or look at me in the eyes. Rude and pathetic. Gladly won't be returning :) There are other more hygienic dim sum restaurant that serve tastier, higher quality food and offer great customer service than this one.
