I just had a great staff night at this place to farewell a much loved colleague and the staff there were so awesome and perfect that i didn't even care how bad my burger was, i mean, don't get me wrong, I wanted it to be bad, it was a Cheeseburger. But these guys have nailed it, i mean like it's as if it's someone's job to sit on the burger before it leaves the kitchen. That's awesome! At one point, i was so drunk on jugs of the 79 different varieties of local craft beer, I dropped my Cheeseburger and it just bounced off the floor straight back into my hand and I just took a bite like nothing happened. That's awesome!

These days a dinner out is always a treat.  When you have a two-year old in tow that treat always seems like not a treat at all.  So on one rare night, we had a treat (or something like that!) at the Dog Bistro in Randwick.. The venue that we came from on was just a short distance to the Dog Hotel, so we decided to walk.  As the hotel is located along the main road going to Bondi Junction parking slots are limited.

Have always been to the DOG for a drink but never a meal so thought it would be a good idea to try one of the permanent daily special of Rotisserie for $12.50. Tried the 1/2 roast chicken with roast vegetables and the pork belly twice cooked with minted pea risotto. Great deal for $12.50 though there could have been more cracklings on the pork belly and the risotto was a bit cold in comparison to the pork. Would go back to try the Friday 2 for 1 steak night. Great beer garden area for a casual dinner and/or casual drink.

After being here at opening launch, I came back with a friend who lived nearby for Sunday Roast. The chicken was succulent and tender. From my earlier visit, I knew the roasting process took place right in the open plan kitchen where customers could witness how the meat was slowly cooked when the moisture and flavours were all well preserved. The fat from roasting then dripped through the grill to the tray underneath where the potatoes were laid out. What a great idea!   The potatoes were delightful as well, crispy outside and warm and soft in the middle.  Apparently this pub is run by the same folks as Dove & Olive, I can see the resemblance in the interior decoration and some part of the menu such as the $12.50 daily special.  It was a good pub with decent beers and food, much needed in this part of Sydney.

Thoroughly recommend the food since the update of the restaurant. Our group of 6 had one of the banquets. There was a lot of variety in the dishes with a French inspired twist.

For the Surry Hills pub folks out there, you’ll be familiar with the names Dove & Olive (winner of Time Out’s Pub of the Year 2015) and Keg & Brew (highly commended for Time Out Pub Revival Award 2015 and nominated for Best Beer List 2016). Both of these pubs went through amazing transformations from shabby pasts into Sydney craft beer and pub grub hotspots. What you may not know, is that the guys at Good Beer Company are behind the success of these two Surry Hills institutions and now they’ve brought the winning formula to Randwick, launching their third pub revival project – Duke’s Bistro.

New Orleans was the inspiration behind the Duke’s Bistro refit of the upper level of The Dog Hotel in Randwick. The Dog forms one point of the Good Beer Company’s holy pub trinity that includes the Keg & Brew, and the Dove and Olive in Surry Hills.Your French Colonial experience starts as soon as you ascend the pub’s chandelier-lit stairwell through a lush green mural painted by local artists Jo & Jo.The staircase opens out into a large open-plan, sunny yellow dining room, where a long communal table stretches the length of a well-equipped kitchen.Like most foodies, my eye is instantly drawn to the gleaming pair of shiny, new rotisseries. They form one axis of Executive Chef Dwayne Baber’s sharing menu that combines French inspired dishes with slow cooked American meats. As New Orleans is the place where French meets Americana in unholy matrimony, the ideas behind this menu combination aren’t untested. Though instead of delivering the French-American-Creole blend you might be expecting, Duke’s is turning out a straight Colonial blend. The moist, flavourful Duck Rillettes ($15) with pickled cauliflower, cherry mustard and crisp bread is a good place to begin. You'll also find a clever Bone Marrow Brûlé ($14), which tempers the indulgently rich split marrow bones with burnt sugar tops, pan-fried oyster mushrooms and micro-herbs. It’s so decadent you might...

Love this place. Great to come in with a few friends and enjoy the spoils of the amazing selection of craft beer on offer (if you're into your Carltons and VBs, don't fear, they are still there). Food is great, with a better menu than just the usual "pub grub". Southern fried mushroom burger, AMAZING!

AWESOME. Great night out last Saturday with good coverage of sporting events downstairs and live music afterwards. We headed upstairs for a feed and was pleasantly surprised by the new reno - really upmarket! The menu offers something for all tastes we had the Salmon and the Scotch Fillet of which both were fantastic and reasonably priced. Cold beer and a good selection of wines made for memorable night. Found out every Thursday & Friday is 2 for 1 cook your own steaks, getting a group together for this Friday. Good work on teaching an OLD DOG new tricks.

It's a good and big pub. Dog friendly. Good cold spilled Guinness and many other beers from all over Australia and over sea. Food is OK. Ceasar salad was on average but the lamb pie was good. I think it's one of the best pub around together with coach and horses. I don't know if the DOG does happy hour cheaper beer, though.

Has got a lot better recently. Don't know if it is the new management or if it is down to a new chef but the Sunday Roast is great. Very tasty and decent portion sizes. All the staff are also very friendly and helpful. Had a small birthday gathering here recently and they were really helpful regarding storing and bringing out the cake for us etc. Recommend.

Ever since Merivale took over the food has improved ten fold and the staff are super chill and friendly. New management hasn’t messed with the place at all and it’s basically the same as before but with the best happy hour, awesome beer on tap and as previously mentioned the yummiest food. Still kid friendly and staff are welcoming on arrival with good tunes playing throughout. Well done guys.

A really nice ambience reminiscent of an old British pub. Good food and a nice selection of beer. A good place to bring children too.

Great place to catch up with friends. Dog friendly pub. Dogs allowed in the beer garden. Today tried the Sunday roast - generous serving of beef (have choice of chicken too). Served with gravy big size potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, broccoli and gigantic Yorkshire pudding. Service was a bit slow (think people suffering post covid) and may be attitude was a bit off still a great place to go. Also serves your usual fare burgers, fish n chips, chicken parmie. Good selection of cocktails too. Will go again as things can only get better now that everything is opening up.

We really wanted a bottle of wine after the bottle shop had closed so we went in and bought a $55 bottle of wine and tried to sneak it out, the bouncer caught us and made us take it back, the manager REFUNDED us!!! What a legend! Although we didn’t get wine from the DOG we got wine elsewhere for 1/3 of the price. Five stars for the leniency! Legends! Highly recommend stealing wine from here. They are very amenable to thieves. Especially middle aged women thieves.

Came for the Sunday roast and UFC with my puppy. Was greeted by a super lovely member of staff. Unfortunately, I did not get her name, but she was very attentive and brought our pup some water straight away and said hello. The roast was DELICIOUS - highly recommend! Came very fast and was a generous serving. Beer list was a bit of a disappointment. Would have liked a bit more variety, but still enough to keep most people happy. We ended up having to move tables mid way through the UFC event because reservations are for a max of 2 hours. I get it, but it meant we had to move around a lot to try and watch the event with the dog. It might be worth considering reservations around specific event running times. Staff and management were very good at maintaining RSA and safety standards. Will absolutely be returning very soon. A wonderful venue overall.
