I always order Beef Vindaloo from here...why? Because it is the best in Sydney. Mouth watering, tangy, melt in your mouth awesomeness. They never disappoint.
Love this Restaurant so much, always hot, always delivered fast and ALWAYS delicious. Thanks again to the staff for another wonderful gastronomical delight.
Oh my. I’m hard to please with curry and it’s hard to find a great one in Sydney. Thank goodness I’ve finally found one after 7 years living here. This was EPIC. Fresh, tasty, just the right amount of spice. Delicious. A bit expensive but worth the extra $$. Delivery said 50 mins but was here in 20. Awesome. Yum yum.
this place has become our go to indian restaurant in city. great food, good drinks and amazing service. they tick all the boxes off a good indian venue. cherry on top is the food is authentic and not over the to expensive
The food was delicious. Mango lassi is a must. Good presentation too. The service was decent except we were seated at the back and was difficult to get the waiter's attention. Only suggestion is to improve the service.

Extremely delicious Indian food, great staff and such a cool place. Absolutely my fav Indian restaurant in Sydney. Highly recommended!! ❤️
I really enjoy this place. They’re BYO, which is always a great option.
The food is very tasty. It’s freshly cooked. I appreciate that you can see the cooks prepare food in front of you.
Service is fast.
I’m not a specialist of Indian food, but it tastes great.
Love The Colonial as it serves some of my favorite curries - Brinjal Patiala and Goat Curry! I love a well cooked Goat - and it takes effort to cook a good one. Top marks to this Indian joint - the eastern suburbs needs a few of these!
This is our local lunch favourite! We recently ordered lunch for about 20 people in the office and boy did they deliver! There was Butter Chicken, Tikka masala, Beef Madras, Lamb Roganjosh, Dal Makhani, Amritsari malai kofta and a couple of other dishes with Naan and Rice. I couldnt fault a dish, the curries had plenty of meat in it, the Naan was fresh and rice perfectly cooked. They even threw in poppadums and chutneys. They made me a hit with the work peeps and I'll be ordering from them again. Thank you for an amazing mid-week lunch feast!
Best Indian Restaurant in Sydney – Delicious Curry and Wine! We were craving some good Indian food and decided to give this restaurant a taste test. When we walked in, we were greeted by a lovely gentleman who walked us to our table. We didn’t have a booking and lucky for us there was room to squeeze us in. We ordered some curry dishes, naan, rice and some wine with our dinner. YUM! It was simply delicious, probably the best Indian food we have had in a long time. My partner couldn’t agree more on how good their Indian dishes are. The wine served was perfectly matched and well balanced and the pricing was very reasonable and great value. Now that we have discovered this restaurant, they will see us very often!! A Big thanks to the manager for excellent service and delicious Indian food, we can’t wait to come back and try more dishes from your menu!
The Colonial is a British-Indian restaurant. I check out their Darlinghurst venue for mid-week dinner. When I hear British-Indian - i'm not sure what that means so I was curious. I get a preview of some of the new menu items. The Colonial is located in Darlinghurst, a short walk away from the main Sydney CBD. It's a small restaurant which is dimly lit. The staff are really attentive. For full review including photos, go to blog post.
Just so you know, we werr torn between giving the colonial a 3.5 or a 4... and i will explain why. We were kindly invited to the colonial so our score/review will not include pricepoints as we did not pay for our meal.
I am crazy about 2 cruisines, indian and middle eastern. I love the spices, i love the flavour, i cant stand the heat but i keep going back for more. I think im pretty confident in my judgement of indian food.
The colonial is more of an indian fusion, indian with a modern take. I had a tamarind martini and it was a bomb, a very unique and beautiful taste with a kick. Chicken tandoori salad was beautiful (the chicken was so tender and flavoursome), i loved the paneer spring roll!! Such a great idea. Oh and not to forget the watermelon and feta salad... that was a very interesting and bizarre dish. Not a typical indian dish but quite refreshing.
I unfortunately wasnt too keen on the dessert and i love desserts, i have had kulfi many times but its never wowed me. The kulfi at the colonial was probably the best ive tried so far, however im not sold. I did not enjoy the malai i think its a strange acquired texture.. ive never tried thr malai before so i dont have anything to compare it to.
Overall i enjoyed the food, i felt that what we tried were the more fusion dishes with some traditional dishes. I love that the colonial is being experimental and modernising indian cruisines to something everyone can enjoy. But me being me, i love traditional indian food (which the colonial do serve as well) and i dont think i would to ve honest order indian fusion other than perhaps the martini and paneer spring roll. On the other hand, sam would definitely order the fusion dishes. Id give the colonial 4 for innovation, however just based on what i had that night, i enjoyed it, it was yummy, but it didnt quite hit home run for me
