The staff were very friendly and their input is highly regarded. The overall experience was amazingly lovely.
Tucked into the sandstone depths of The Rocks, The Doss House oozes with character. In the heritage-listed building’s 170-year history, it’s housed a bootmaker, boarding house, opium dealer – and now whisky bar. The underground space is made up of five cosy nooks, including an outdoor terrace. Behind the bar, you’ll find a world of whisky, with this drinking den slinging some peaty Scotch, rare Japanese whiskies and locally-made brown liquid, as well as a selection of cocktails, wines and beer, and one of the better cheese platters I’ve had in Sydney.
Fantastic Irish Musicians. Lovely music. Small place, easy to miss. Service is good. Located underground. Staff is cordial. When I entered the place, with the music it felt like I have entered the lower deck of Titanic - scene where they are dancing on Irish music.
What a neat little hideaway in The Rocks. Lots of cosy corners, alcoves and quiet spaces to cuddle up with your favourite whisky. Cosy, intimate and easy fits the bills for solo visits, friends with shared tastes, and after work drinks.
Wonderful feel to this basement whisky bar. Great friendly and helpful staff.
Popped in for a mojito on Sat 14/4/18 - best ever.
Great place; well worth a visit if you are around the rocks.
Remember it is downstairs!
Have you heard about the new whiskey bar in Sydney — the one in a historic building in The Rocks? That’s literally underground? Yes indeed — that’s The Doss House. The location: right on George Street in The Rocks, in a building built in the 1840s. Enter via an unassuming door, walk through a hallway, past sandstone walls hewn out of local quarries, and down a set of wooden stairs. There, the wonderful bar that is The Doss House will enchant you. Whiskey, wine, food and music — it’s all there, with a warm welcome from the Irish owners.
Fantastic knowledge and service from the lovely London. We visited twice on the one weekend, the second time returning with a Celtic-French friend where we were unexpectedly greeted with live Irish music on the Sunday afternoon which took him back to the mother country. Next time we are in Sydney we'll be back for more delicious whiskey.

We visited the Doss House on the first week of lock lifted. Quite excited to see the live music squad playing Scotland bagpipe. Cheese board is lovely and we tried the tasting menu for single melt whiskey. Had the best seat in the bar and the staffs are lovely. Recommend to try the martini.
New to town and absolutely love this place! You cannot beat the vibe and intimate feel, highly recommend visiting on a Sunday night when they have live Irish music. Been back a few times in a matter of a weeks because the people are incredibly kind and welcoming (oh… the drinks are also pretty amazing 😉).
Special shout-out to Brock and Mikey!
Fantastic little bar that I had no idea existing. Great range of whisky and beers on tap.
Love this bar! It’s exactly what you would want from a whiskey bar; old and cozy with moody lighting and classic music. It’s very atmospheric with great service and a solid whiskey list. They were serving hot toddy’s and mulled wine for winter. So good!
Sunday night they had a live Irish band playing fiddle type songs. Great ambiance, hard to find but that's what makes it a gem!
