The standout dishes were the black garlic bread and wagyu carpaccio toast - flavour combinations were executed perfectly and Asian influences were apparent - would come back just for these starters.

The pasta dishes I got, scarlet prawn and Moreton bay bug, were average. Pasta a bit on the thicker and chewier side and sauces were more like pastes. Though flavours were there, it didn’t complement the delicate produce ie scarlet prawns and Moreton bay bugs. Would’ve preferred if sauce was smoother and a big lighter.

Moreton Bay Bug Tagliatelle ($39) - 3.5/5
chilli tagliatelle, moreton bay bug, garlic chive juice, chilli bisque, dill

From the use of the Moreton Bag Bug head to the arrangement of the pasta, the presentation of this dish was absolutely immaculate. The tagliatelle was perfectly al dente, while the moreton bag bug was fresh and extremely succulent. However, the flavour of the chilli bisque was odd and ultimately failed to tie the dish together. An improved sauce would definitely have completed this pasta dish.

Cacio e Pepe ($21) - 4/5
spaghetti, pecorino, black pepper

This dish exemplifies how less can be more. The grated pecorino cheese and black pepper combined to create a simple yet delicious dish. I certainly did not expect angel hair spaghetti, but it turned out to fit the dish perfectly and was of course al dente. I would have loved if this dish were served from a pecorino cheese wheel, but it was nonetheless delicious and I definitely preferred this over the tagliatelle.

Cosy restaurant for date night. They have changing pasta specials as well as staples. The burrata starter and pumpkin ravioli were my favourite from the night.

Great little spot in Darlinghurst for dinner. Italian with Asian inspirations.
I came as a group of 4 hungry people and ended up ordering almost everything on the menu as we couldn't decide.
Highlights were the Rice Cake Scamorzas, Tuna Tartare and Bonemarrow.
The rice cakes are a call to spicy/sweet korean rice cake skewers with the scamorza being a great addition to the otherwise classic. Tuna Tartare was fresh, punchy and hit all the right notes, with Bonemarrow being indulgent, rich and exactly what you would want on a cold night.

The only thing that our party didn't particularly enjoy was the black garlic bread with miso butter which was very similar to a spongy Malay cake infused with black garlic. While the miso butter was great, we couldn't help to wish for a heartier and more substantial bread to go with it.

Definitely a neighbourhood gem! The small restaurant with awesome interior. I loved their kingfish and burrata dishes. Absolutely loved the fusion of flavours in their dishes. Their desserts weren’t that great though unfortunately, but everything else was great! Our waiter was absolutely amazing, super friendly and accommodating.

Spiced mocktail ($10), black garlic bread & miso butter ($6), rice cake, chilli with scamorza ($7), crab spaghetti ($31), bone marrow with potato cake ($14), rice pudding tiramisu ($12) and yuzu panna cotta with kumquat ($12). Favourite dishes of the night (and must haves) were the bone marrow and tiramisu. The black garlic bread, rice cake and spaghetti were all amazing in their own right. However, if I could reorder our main dish, instead of the spaghetti I would have gotten the duck ragu papardelle or the pumpkin ravioli. Only dish that I didn’t enjoy was the yuzu panna cotta. All the dishes were inventive and a lot of attention and care went into finessing these dishes.

Picked this place instead of another last minute (because of a mixup with bookings) and was seriously not disappointed.

This little, modern Italian spot is the perfect date night venue. Casual dining with an added touch of intimacy, the food is meant for sharing and drinks menu boasts an impressive cocktail selection.

We had the Menu Fisso, a 5 course degustation menu filled with a mixture of traditional Italian, as well as some modern, Asian fusion meals (that’s how I would describe it).

The drinks are also very good, we had a couple of cocktails off their menu, as well as the cocktail of the month (Watermelon).

Would highly recommend, a couple of drinks and the set menu didn’t break the bank too hard (under $150).

Quiet, corner side intimate Italian restaurant, with a neon sign. It’s perfect for date night.

We ate the following dishes off the $55 chefs menu degustation:
Cacio e Pepe Donuts - a signature dish on the menu. The donuts are lightly fried, with subtle pepper flavouring and sweetness from the mountain of shaved Parmesan cheese on top.
Burrata + Tomato + Togarashi. Cutting into a ball of burrata and seeing the oozing creamy cheese explode onto the plate is sheer joy.

Kingfish + Shiso + Blood Plum + Cucumber. The kingfish prepared carpaccio style was thinly sliced and balanced well with the fresh ingredients.

Pumpkin Ravioli + Pistachios + Burnt Butter. I was looking forward to this dish but it was a bit of a let down. The shaved pumpkin on top was too overwhelming, it might have just been our dish on the night but it was too much compared to the ratio of the other ingredients. I felt the pistachio in this dish didn’t make sense, they were cooked slightly caramelised.

Casoni’s signature pappardelle and maltese Sausage Ragu. This is everything that I could wish for in a pasta dish. The homemade pasta is thick and wide, cooked al dente so that there is some ‘bite’ to it, with a simple meat and tomato sauce.

They saved the best savoury dish for last as part of the ‘menu fisso’ - all the Casoni favourites degustation menu. I would go back to Casoni just to order a plate of this .

For dessert, we had two different dishes:
Brown butter mousse, blood plums and lemon myrtle. This is one of the desserts served as part of the degustation menu here. The mousse is extremely light in texture and taste which contrasts well against the sweet blood plums and tart and fragrant lemon myrtle flavours. If you want to finish your meal off with something sweet but not too heavy, this is just the dessert.

Casoni was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad we acted upon the recommendation. The food is creative and their matching of ingredients interesting. The ambiance is relaxed, the staff helpful and they have a new pasta dish every single week. I am looking forward to going back to try more of their pasta dishes. #italianfood #pasta #burrata

They have really thought about their dishes making them both delicious and aesthetically pleasing. A vibrant atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. Felt like you're visiting old friends over for a casual yet sophisticated lunch. Highly recommend trying everything. The buratta and the Coral trout were my favourite. I believe the menu changes often so if you see the dish you want make sure to book your seats!

Casoni has quickly become one of my absolute favourite places to visit. The food is on point - the black garlic sourdough is ridiculously addictive. Do yourself a favour and pair it with the pickled mussels and anchovies. The pasta is needless to say just gorgeous. Plus, the space is beautiful, and the team are some of the loveliest - they are super warm, friendly, knowledgeable and really take care of you.

Such a hidden gem 💎 with a very strong entree/snacks menu. Ingredients that you would not imagine together burst with flavour and deliciousness. Special mention to the pickled mussels and lamb tartare, very outstanding. 🙌🏻

Really nice at Casoni, small but has a good vibe, excellent service too. Went for a late Saturday night dinner 9:30pm and kitchen was still open. The wine was really good (suggestion by staff) and the food delicious. Simple menu, still still a good range of options. Would visit again and the price wasn't ridiculous, perfect for 2 people

I took a friend out to celebrate her birthday here. Neither of us have been before but I've heard a lot of good things about their food, especially their pastas. Located on the corner of Foley and Bourke Street, this cosy little joint has both indoor and outdoor seating. The inside is dim and cosy with timber furnishings. We ordered every dish from the starters, except for the olives. The 'Black Garlic Sourdough' was served with a miso cultured butter which was absolutely delicious. The bread was sweet and savoury. Since Erin doesn't eat anchovies, I ordered their 'White Anchovies' that were topped off with fennel, apple, celery & dill. I love eating anchovies straight out of the tin, but this worked well for me too. The topping brought down the strong flavours from the fish and made it 'fresher'. And of course, we had to order their 'Oysters with Balsamic Mignonette'. The best way to start a meal, always! When there’s burrata on the menu, you order it! I’ve been so used to it being accompanied by fresh tomatoes and basil, so it was a nice change to have fig, hazelnut and rosemary instead. It paired perfectly with the sourdough and the crunch from the nuts added excitement and texture to the dish. We also ordered the ‘Yellow Fin Tuna’ which was presented beautifully. The corn had so much flavour so I had to ensure I put a generous amount to go with the fish. I felt there wasn’t too much wagyu fat vinaigrette, so I would have loved more of that on there too. The ‘Wagyu Tartare’ with sundried tomato, sunchoke crispy and coriander seed was also presented well. I wasn’t overly excited about it at first, but as I kept digging in, it grew on me a little more. I think I’m being harsh because I’ve had plenty of tartare’s and I’m comparing them all to one another. And here's the pasta.. 'Gnocchi | smoked pumpkin, cavolo nero, soy sauce & nuts'. Gnocchi can be quite heavy but this was perfect for us. Cavolo nero is a dark green cabbage otherwise known as 'Italian Kale'. This had a nice bite to it and combined with the nuts, made it a pleasant dish to eat. Beautiful flavours, beautiful textures and definitely a winning dish. I hope to return soon to try the rest of their pasta dishes!

Gorgeous place to catch up with friends; intimate space that feels like you’re eating at a friend’s sophisticated dining room. It’s vibrant but not too loud, dimly lit with cosy vibes and the staff are genuinely friendly and take the time to walk you through the menu and pepper you with recommendations on dishes, wines and serves. Great wine list, and the food is incredible… black garlic sourdough is soft & delectably sticky with caramelised garlic, paired with the wagyu tartare and burrata is a share starter dream, the zucchini flowers are pert and crunchy with billowy ricotta stuffing, and the pasta… the best squid ink spaghetti I’ve eaten! Wish we’d had room for dessert.
