Restaurant No.5 have recently opened up for lunch service so I'm keen to see what's on the menu. As I walked into Restaurant No.5, I can see it's a large open space that's beautiful decorated. Up a dead end industrial street that I had never walked down before, No. 5 has a great big space with lots of lounges and tables and a bit of outdoor space. Good food and the experienced staff are great (others were trainees). Everything's very expensive but happy hour brings $5 drinks.
Tucked away in up and coming Alexandria is No. 5 Restaurant and Bar, a gem of an eatery set up in a warehouse with a strong industrial chic aesthetic. We started off our night here with a couple of cocktails in their bar area which is full of plush sofas and armchairs, and is great for groups, before we moved onto their restaurant proper.

Dog owners rejoice! There's finally a place where you can neck cocktails and scoff small plates with your hound at hand. No. 5 Restaurant and Bar court your canine companion with two statuesque carved hounds fronting their fire pit, which is set right in their warehouse doorway. The dancing flames are ringed by tables where you and your doggy can sit, imbibe and survive a cold Alexandria evening. Inside you'll find a genuine warehouse conversion, which has kept the corrugated iron roof and exposed rafters, distressed brick walls, and concrete floor, but warmed them up with a pallet-mounted green wall and softly flickering...
Stylish warehouse conversion with excellent food and friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed the cod croquettes and kingfish sashimi but the beef short rib was the standout. Though we sat in the outside bar with our dogs, it was warm enough with the fire going.
Cute little warehouse conversion. Its homely, decked out in eclectic rustic vintage furniture, high ceilings, cosy nooks and even has a fireplace out front in the undercover area. Stopped for brunch one morning, and staff were warm and obliging. Decent coffee and they put on a nice spread. Breakfast burger stands proudly. The egg is runny, and jam-packed with sauteed mushrooms, spinach, chorizo and swiss cheese. Its heavy but deliciously satisfying.
The pumpkin patch is a filling and satisfying vegetarian option, seeing a giant roast pumpking wedge dressed with peppery greens, velvety feta, and the aforementioned mushrooms with spinach. Don't shy away simply because of the balsamic dressing, as all elements complement each other and its a delicious little dish.
Completely non-descript from the street in an industrial, albeit historical area. Roller door down, you’d never know. But this is surrounded by the gentrifying intrusion of apartments aplenty, and this hold out provides welcome respite from Gyprock and downlights.
It’s a Saturday night, the door is up, and the place is full. Industrial chic, exposed brick, minimal intervention - the incandescent lighting is where it all comes together. High ceilings and polished concrete floors complete the ensemble.
The bar is compiled around an ever changing offering of craft beers, organised through a large copper head with 6 beers on tap. Extensive, eclectic cocktail list, the bar staff are polished yet polite. No egomaniacs here.
Food list is terrific. We were at a stand up party, so only sampled the various platters, but they were extensive and tasty.
Great service and atmosphere. Great for casual drinks and nibbles - everything we were served was of excellent quality and they had a very extensive ale menu! Come at the right time and get $1 oysters!
Really funky bar tucked away in McCauley street. Nice beer list and reasonable menu. Kiddies options are good. Very cosy place for a warm winter muld wine and cheese.
Bar No. 5 is just hip. Just cool. And very Inner West, from the warehouse conversion to the little fire out front (The Potting Shed-esque?). Add to that the live music on Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5pm and the accompanying happy hour deal of $1.50 an oyster, $1 a chicken wing, and you’ve found my new favourite spot for a lazy Sunday.
