In the world of COVID19 we had take always from here! The service was quick and the food was delicious! The portions were also very generous!
Don Don’s is an institution. With so many places on Oxford Street coming and going, opening and closing down, there’s something comforting that this cheap, cheerful and casual restaurant has been feeding folks from Darlinghurst for so long, I suspect 20 years or more. The menu looks like it comes from then too, and the prices! $12 for a lunch bowl where you get a little appetizer too, is very cheap for inner Sydney.
This place with it's amazing Indians and the great variety India menu is your go to place if you want some really delicious Japanese cuisine they have everything you want and it is as per your taste buds

Walked past during my lunch break and popped in to grab a takeaway chicken katsu don for $11.50. It was pretty busy for a weekday so I had to wait about 10 minutes for my food but hey - that means it's cooked right there and then yeah?
Got back to my office and see that I have inside the bag... two containers. One is a smaller one with soup. The other was the massive bowl of chicken katsu don! And when I say massive; it was massive. Way bigger than many other asian takeaway I have had in the city.
The ton of rice and the chicken was so plentiful that I couldn't even finish the meal!
As I was waiting for my meal, I saw people eating dishes in and the bento box looked delightful... the lunch special is about 14 dollars and looks to be great value. I will definitely be coming back!
Always love this place. Food is fresh to death and it’s very cheap. Yes it’s small so it can be busy but that’s a good sign. Their Take away soups in bed get me through winter
Always looks quite packed so came in to see what the fuss is about. Overall prompt service and reasonable priced Japanese food. Ordered the ebi-tenzaru udon set, oyako don and also teriyaki chicken salad. The ebi-tenzaru udon was my favourite as I am crazy for cold udon which you dip into a cold soup and slurp up. Will be back to sample the sushi and other things on the menu some other time.
Great very charming experience. Great ebi ten udon/ tempura udon/ mostly all the boxes. Good customer service. Flavour is very good. Have been a regular for thus place for years. Lov it

You just never know what is around the corner in this city.. and this place, literally a block from where I eat all the time, is an absolute rock star.
Firstly, very Japanese and a very authentic vibe.
It's a small place but feels really cosy and the service is very friendly and excellent.
Given the name of this place I had to try the Don. I went with the chicken katsu don. Given my lofty expectations, the dish did not disappoint - damn that Don is good!
Perfectly (seriously perfectly) soft rice. Moist, juicy chicken covered in a beautifully crisp crumb. And all covered in a soy/sugar egg mixture lightly fried and draped over everything. The pickled ginger is like the icing on top of a cake, so good.
I want to go back and have another bowl right now! Get there
Excellent choice for a rainy day. One does not want to be any closer to a fancy deco after you are half drowned In the street. The simple water proof furnitures make you at ease.
The food is simple, warm, not demanding on the stomach. It gives you the energy to step into the chill world outside again.

Enjoyed a Japanese curry with a friend. Prices are great for the food you get. Decent portion sizes, you won’t walk away hungry.

The food won't blow your mind but the portions are generous and will satisfy big eaters.
Good chicken karage Ramen! The broth tastes more like they do in Tokyo than other Sydney places. Best to be hungry! It’s not a fancy place but tasty good value
Don Don Japanese food Darlinghurst has been feeding locals for about two decades - while other eateries come and go, this establishment remains. There's nothing fancy about the decore, nothing pre-made, and that's what keeps the locals coming back for more - it's all about fresh produce made to order at very reasonable prices.
Such a brilliant little Japanese restaurant. I have been a few times now and they never disappoint. The staff are lovely. Can get a bit crowded but worth waiting for a table. Very reasonable prices. Took 4 friends last time and they all liked it and a few have gone back.
Delicious food! Best Japanese place in Sydney! Great customer service and good pricing especially for the city.
