Whether it’s a new item or not, it’s never appeared on our radar before as it’s all about the roasted duck with its crispy skin and the roasted pork belly with its crunchy crackling. However, this dish seems to be the ‘higher end’ offer of their menu if you like in comparison to the $10.80 (Choose two meats – duck, pork two ways) special.

Zhaoyun Pu

Moved into Sussex centre about 2 years ago. They are famous for their salty chicken with rice and it’s very nice. Food portions are generous,price is reasonable. Very good place for a good quick lunch.

Located inside Sussex Centre this little food outlets serve rice and noodles with BBQ and Roast meats. Typical lunch style in Asia, cheap and big portion. Hidden gem for the locals and students of Sydney.

The Engineer Eats

Had the roast pork at Minh Hai and it was delicious! The skin was extra crispy (you can hear the crunch as you chew on it!). We didn't want the rice that came with the meal but still got charge the same amount. The meal came with a small soup to counter the saltiness from the pork after halfway through the plate. Nice!

My used to go to place to have a delicious vietnamese dish before i know else where... always comes here after school.. after almost 10 years... i revisited again... orderes the same dish that i used to order... taste exactly still the same...

This shabby looking chinese place has been around since I can remember.

I don't come here as often as I used to with all these shiney new places popping up in and around chinatown but when I do its for one thing - tomato rice.

There tomato rice just has so much more flavour then anywhere else in Sydney I've tried. And this is because I ask for more tomato sauce when they are cooking it. You might ask why I don't do this at any other restaurant.. well the answer to that would be i do. They just refuse. Which generally leaves with me with rice that looks that part.. but pretty much tastes like white rice.

Get your choice of protein and red rice here. You won't regret it

Ordered the Salted Chicken with Egg Fried Rice and the Pork Prawns & Vegetable Rolls. Both were good. We managed to get some free tea and soup which was rather meh. Can't complain because it was free after all.

This Chinese restaurant provides nice food of great value for money. The salted chicken rice here is great! Tastes delicious and worth a try.

My partner absolutely loves the 鹽焗雞飯. Every time we visit Sydney, he buys at least 3 boxes to bring back to Melbourne. I must admit I was originally sceptical about how good can a chicken dish be but after I tried it, I must admit that it is much better than those in Melbourne. We have tried other dishes too and have no complains. This place might look shabby but if you are after delicious fuss-free food in generous serving (see picture on how they crammed so much in the takeaway box), this is it.

Went there on Sat. Ordered 3 ppl lunch set, they serve rice and soup on complementary. Then u can add hainan chicken for $5 as add on as well. Very tasty food. Kids love them. Milk tea is very rich, love it! Good for family’s lunch and dinner.

For those who have grown up eating food from Minh Hai along George Street, you may have shed a tear when you heard that they had closed down. Now that they moved to Sussex Centre Food Court, questions may remain as to whether they are still serving the same quality and quantity of food they used to. From my first visit eating my favourite Salted Chicken with Tomato Rice, my verdict is that Minh Hai lives and is definitely worth a visit.

I would probably spend a solid amount of time deciding what to order from their menu. Do I choose from my childhood favourite dish i.e. tomato rice with crispy skin chicken or a noodle dish or something stir fried? After careful selection, I decided to order the roast duck with dry noodle. The duck had great flavour and the noodle had even more flavour - it was really salty and the soup was played a crucial part in breaking (or diluting) the flavour. I would probably order the roast duck with rice next time!
