The mentaiko pasta was really delicious and the matcha lava cake was to die for! I cannot wait to go back and try the other menu items!

You’ve heard of the Eton mess, Eiju Fusion Japanese Dining are currently putting out a dessert I’ve dubbed the Tokyo mess as part of their under-priced Vivid Sydney menu. Inspired by the colourful light display in nearby Darling Harbour, chef Hideki Okazaki has created five colourful riffs on his already interesting menu. There’s just one week remaining where you can pop in for this Vivid Sydney Set Menu ($59/person) on your way to see the lights. Kick off with a warming cup of Kikumasamune Kojo Junmai Daiginjo ($8/60ml) that’s round and mellow, balancing an acetone-like start with a more yeasty, round finish – a bargain at the price. It’ll suit the menu’s opening course – Okazaki-san’s popular..

Eiju Fusion Japanese Dining came up when we were searching for a good place for dinner near where we were staying in Sydney. We had pored through a number of menus from different places (sometimes too many choices just makes things more difficult), but were ultimately convinced by their set menu offering.

Japanese fusion with Italian-French. Have I got you intrigued?

Chef Hideki Okazaki creates classic Japanese flavours with an Italian and French twist to keep your tastebuds on their toes.

The best way to try Japanese fusion is to order the 5-course degustation menu for $59. I tried the following menu:

Salmon confit - tomato nube, zucchini flower and ume shiso paste. The salmon melted in the mouth, and was perfectly accompanied by the savoury paste.

Fig & prosciutto - polenta gratin, blue cheese, baby corn, cauliflower purée and red capsicum puree. The prosciutto wrapped figs were devine, sweet and salty was the winner. However, the blue cheese inside the polenta was a bit too pungent for my taste.

Miso carbonara spaghetti - bacon & white miso cream. This was my favourite dish! The miso infused creamy sauce was velvety and indulgent with perfectly al dente I pasta. Plus it was served in a tea cup, too cute. I only wished it was a larger serve!

Roasted duck breast - shitake mushrooms & artichokes in wonton cup, soy milk foam and hoisin jus. Perfectly pink duck with a sweet Asian style sauce. I only wished the duck skin was a tad bit crispier.

OR (the other main option)
Fish of the day - fillet with kale and beans. The fish was cooked just right, with the flakes coming off the fish filet. I enjoyed the crispy kale and veg accompanying this fish.

Green tea chocolate fondant, vanilla ice cream and meringue. I was lucky that I had a bit of liquid gooey ooze from my pudding, nothing like a melted centre in a fondant. The green tea offsets the chocolate, making this dessert not too sweet.

This restaurant is a cosy, intimate setting for date night or a catch up with a friend over some interesting food.

Note: I dined as a guest of the venue, all views expressed are my own.

Very cute and intimate fusion Japanese restaurant great for both date night or small groups. We tried the 5 course set menu and my favourite were the starter of salmon confit with zucchini flower and ume shiso purée, the Miso carbonara spaghetti served in a tea cup was a perfect size for me and was so delicious.
For the main I enjoyed the Roasted duck breast with soy milk foam and hoisin jus. Everyone on our table also loved the Green tea chocolate fondant. Beautiful meal for a reasonable price.

A lovely cosy restaurant located on Harris Street. It is quite intimate so would be well suited to couples looking for a date night. There are a few large tables so can cater for larger groups too like ours this evening. They are a predominantly dinner venue however do open for lunch during weekends. Their cuisine is a fusion as per their name between Japanese and western cuisines.

To make it easier for the group to decide we had the Eiju 5 Course Set Menu. Not much of fomo here except for possibly the 4th course where you need to make a decision but more on that later.

We start off with Salmon Confit. Nice pieces of salmon served with tomato nube, zucchini flower, and ume shiso purée starts us off on the right foot. It was a light dish and the flavours were very good. Our 2nd course was the Fig & Prosciutto. There were prosciutto wrapped figs accompanied by polenta gratin cubes with blue cheese. The cheese had a bite but wasn’t too overpowering for the dish. Served with a cauliflower and red capsicum purées.
The baby corn adds a nice crunch. Third course was Miso Carbonara Spaghetti. It was one the table’s favourites as it definitely the combines the best of Japanese and Italian. Served in a cute cup and saucer, the flavours were wonderful with the miso in the sauce adding another dimension to a classic dish.

Onto the next course where we have to choose between Roasted Duck Breast or Today’s Fish which happens to be kingfish. So not to miss out, half the table got the duck and the other half got the fish and we each shared the plates of food. The duck had a nice pink hue in the middle and was well cooked. Served with shiitake mushrooms & artichokes in a delightful wonton cup. There was also a soy milk foam and hoisin jus. Other option of kingfish was also well plated and done to perfection. It was a light dish and served with a side of kale, chickpeas, and foam. This would be the choice if you didn’t want anything too heavy or more seafood inclined. We finished off with Green Tea Chocolate Fondant. Cute little fondants with a luscious green oozing centre. It wasn’t too sweet as the matcha offsets the sweetness of the chocolate. Served with vanilla ice cream, meringue and chocolate soil. It was a great way to end the meal.

Chef Hideki creates and served a wonderful menu. The staff are really lovely and nothing was too much for them.

Eiju is a Japanese-French fusion restaurant in Pyrmont. The interior is understated and it's sightly off the beaten path, but certainly worth checking out if you're in the area.

The set menu started with confit salmon. The fish had a lovely buttery texture though its delicate flavours was at times overpowered by the sour notes of the ume puree.

Next course was like two separate dishes on a plate: a deep-fried polenta cube filled with blue cheese and prosciutto-wrapped figs. The polenta was a good carrier for the funky cheese and I could've polished off a whole plate of the prosciutto morsels myself.

This was followed by a Japanese-style carbonara with miso cream and bacon. The richness of the pasta was tempered by a good hit of acidity, so it was easy to eat. Bonus points for serving it in a cute jumbo teacup!

For mains, we had a choice of duck or fish. We went halves on each and my personal favourite was the grilled kingfish, served with kale and sprouted pulses. Having said that, the duck was cooked well, retaining a pink blush and firm flesh. The hoisin jus gave it an Asian twist.

Dessert was a warm matcha lava cake with vanilla ice cream and meringue. My cake had a nice ooze factor (though some of the other cakes were solid) and a pronounced matcha flavour without being overly sweet. One of my personal highlights.

Service was friendly, with good pacing between courses. I enjoyed the creativity and at $59/head, the set menu is very reasonably priced.

Big thanks to FCBA and Eiju for the opportunity to visit and taste the menu!

Quaint little restaurant in Pyrmont with amazing food! Every protein we had was cooked perfectly with creative flavours. My favourites were salted cod croquette (snack), the beef tataki salad (entree), wagyu rump (main) and hojicha creme brûlée (dessert). Service was attentive and friendly. Waitress had good sake knowledge too which was a bonus. Overall can not fault, and definitely will be back!

I tried out Eiju, a new Japanese fusion restaurant in Pyrmont. Their lunch menu looked appetizing and I couldn’t decide what to order. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. I ended up ordering the wagyu beef with green tea soba served on hot kawara tile. It was delicious, but be careful as the tile is extremely hot and make sure you stir the noodles to avoid turning too crispy from the hot tile.

Stunning presentation and amazing flavours, I was super impressed with the Japanese fusion food at Eiju.

Entrées tease the palate with salmon confit and salted cod croquettes. Mains are cooked to perfection with a selection of market fish, duck, lamb and quail. Finally, desserts are a showstopper with the hojicha creme brûlée and molten matcha lava cake.

I definitely enjoyed the dishes at Eiju and would highly recommend the lamb rack and croquettes for anyone visiting!

My thanks to FCBA for extending the invite and Eiju for hosting us.

Whilst the restaurant was very accommodating our request to finish in time for our show, it did not fell rushed. Food was tasty, inspiring and cleverly presented. Wished for slightly bigger portions since it was just so good!!!

One of must go restaurant around Pyrmont. We tried take away teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu dong today. Even for take away, katsu was nicely crispy and juicy inside. And all the sauce and marinade was well balanced. In this restaurant, veteran owner chef doing almost everything by himslef. So, I always felt privileged to having their food in a budget.

Born from the ashes of the previous restaurant assy this location, the Japanese/Italian fusion retains the previous favourites with some new (soon to be) favourites. I couldn't go past the opening special. The dishes were exquisite. People that have read my commentaries know that I can be a little harsh at times and positive comments are few. The food at this restaurant deserves 5 stars. Simply delicious and worth traveling some distance to enjoy. Although the restaurant had only a few patrons, it seemed there was many more. Some method of acoustic damping would go on to earn this establishment a 5 star Google review. I'm sure they will resolve these small issues and getting a seat at this restaurant will be challenging very shortly. Well worth it.

Pyrmont is spoiled for choice when it comes to Japanese cuisine but this fusion restaurant takes the crown. The food is very reasonably priced and the dishes are bursting with flavour. Highly recommended!

Just opened for about a month, this venue offers Japanese-French fusion dishes. I loved the Japanese influenced decor and the vibe that was a bit romantic with dim lighting throughout. By looking at their menu, I found their dishes pretty unique and the fact that they use uncommon ingredients (for me, at least), got me excited. Came here with a group of foodies, we started with the entree. It looked sensational and exciting even though the taste was a bit bland to my liking. It did highlight the freshness and natural flavours of the elements very well. As for the favourite snacks/mains: salted cod croquettes, spicy soft shell crab fritters, roasted lamb rack and roasted duck breast. We finished the meal with the desserts. They were bang on! Both the green tea fondant and hojicha creme brulee were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly.

This restaurant gives me the same vibes as neighbourhood restaurants in my second home in Azabu-Juban and Ginza in Japan. Every dish served something different to the palate and absolutely delicious. At the end, it was impossible to pick a favourite which is a rare thing in my world. The cheap tasting menu price is the icing on the cake for me.

A little gem tucked in a calm neighbourhood in Pyrmont. Eiju offers the best of Japanese fusion inspired dishes and Australian ingredients. We came here for their pasta and they didn’t disappoint. The Carbonara AU$22 and Duck Ragu Spaghetti (AU$24) are well executed. Although i personally prefer if the put bolder seasoning in it. The Carbonara is almost perfect, if only they’re more generous with the crispy bacon. Don’t miss the dessert, Hojicha Creme Brulee (AU$16) was just perfect to end our feast.
