Wagyu bowl from the lunch menu is definitely worth a try. Meat was so tender and great flavours throughout the dish. Restaurant ambiance was perfect & staff very friendly!
Should notice people there is limited seating time, not keep pushing people to leave when people haven’t even finished dishes yet. Don’t serve ice cream while people still having their skewers and wasted it.
Service was very attentive. Your order does come at different times - i.e. starters may arrive mid meal - as it depends on the cooking time of your order. The skewered items come to you directly from the grill. Every dish had a great flavour. I highly recommend the croquette!
This is the best place to have japanese skewers and porridge. All crews were nice and friendly, the hand writing guest note is very special. Will definitely visit again!
Good food and service. Certain dishes can be a bit too salty but otherwise great place. Just make sure you make a booking each time! Bookings can be done online
Goryon-san in the Hakata/Fukuoka dialect means “a lady of the house who attends to all of it’s household affairs” and the team at Goryon San in Surry Hills aim to be a lady of the house who cooks comforting and delicious meals and pays their guests the upmost attention. Goryon San definitely fulfills this aim: the staff are very attentive and helpful, the attention to detail in the fit out makes you feel like you are in Japan and the food is damn tasty.
This relatively new Japanese restaurant is a Hakata style Kushiyaki restaurant that offers a wide selection of grilled meats and vegetables on skewers. I must admit that this was the first time I had tried Japanese skewers and I am happy to say I am a fan. The skewers are seasoned with salt (shio) or a tare (sauce marinade) and there are some skewers that can be topped with melted cheese like the LBP skewers (pictured) which are lettuce skewers wrapped in pork belly. My favourite skewers were the king prawn skewers wrapped in pork belly (pictured) as well as the scallops wrapped in bacon (pictured).
It’s a fun place and great for a big group and they also have a good selection of sake, shochu and wine. And if you go, don’t forget to end your meal on a sweet note with the matcha tiramisu (pictured) which was absolutely delightful. #goryonsan
Cooler weather requires a food that warms you up. Japanese lunch at Gordon San was a good choice, we had the signature ramen, cold matcha ramen and the Gyu-don (Wagyu beef rice bowl).
The gym bowl is only $10 if you take away so it's worth it. I need to visit during dinner for those BBQ skwerkers.
Everything tasted pretty good, for the cold ramen there was a veggie tempura on the bottom of the bowl which got soggy because of the sauce. My preference is to have it on the side. 😂

Absolutely fantastic food! Would recommend the wagyu and scallop kushiyaki. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and the service was outstanding.
Service was great throughout. I found the placard they handwrite your name on welcoming and personalised. The calpico chu hi drinks were refreshing and would order this again. Food was overall ok. The LBP skewers was cooked well but was a little salty than expected. Better to order rice or salad to balance flavours out.
Third visit to this place,
First and second visit was dinner, they have menu for kushiyaki/yakitori, ramen, and dessert. It’s always pack, come early to get in or book. Very tempting to be seated near to bbq, you can see what they have and cook right in front of you. You just want to try everything.
Third visit was for Easter lunch. Bear in mind there are no bbq skewer for lunch. Only ramen and rice bowl. The food are tasty and strong in flavour. The broth is strong but little bit oily for me, however it’s still delicious. Wagyu rice bowl is nice and juicy. Medium well not over cook.
Very neat Japanese restaurant serving delicious yakitori and bar food, while offering an extensive drinks menu! 😋
Must try’s include:
x lettuce roll wrapped in pork with cheese - a satisfying bite from a very juicy roll that tastes like cheese & bacon balls
x wagyu skewer - tender beef with bits of salty fat goodness. Wasabi definitely elevated the taste
x matcha tiramisu - strong and creamy matcha dessert was soo good!
x ramen hotpot - rich hot tonkotsu broth was really hearty after all the small dishes
x yuzu mocktail !!
Unfortunately, the scallop was cold upon arrival and the wagyu tartare didn’t pair well with other dishes :(
The staff were friendly, energetic and attentive throughout the night, which elevated the experience. We were very lucky to walk-in as a group of 3 at 7pm on a Wednesday night but I will have to try booking for the omakase next time 😊 They also accept Dine & Discover vouchers (1 per person) at the time of this posting.
Chill night. A good place for chatting with friends.
Taste is great, unfortunately not many options. Many alcohol choices, mainly are Japanese style, like plum wine, yuzu wine, Japanese beer ( draft beer, Ale, IPA).
Staffs are friendly.
Course menu, main course is ramen or rice with dumplings.
Although this restaurant is not an old-school Japanese skewers restaurant, but it is creative, modern cuisine. Love this place, will come back again.
The skewers were pretty good, we got the chef's choice for the day (5 skewers) and they were all delicious. Also had the gyoza soup w ramen, which was rich but not oily, perfect for the cold weather. Service was great, they were very attentive and cater to food allergies. They are still accepting dine vouchers. The matcha cake was good but i wouldve wanted the matcha flavor to be more dominant.
The pork yakitori is the best dish at this place. Highly recommend. Every other dish is good too. However, we did mention needing to have the egg dish on the side due to intolerance for a dish. Another waiter took out this dish and poured egg into the dish. Communication between staff about dietary requirements could be improved. It would also be good if this place composted their food scraps/waste.
First time trying Kushi Omakase and it was amazing. Generous serving sizes. I am absolutely so full that I had to unbuckle. Best service as well! Will definitely be back for more!
Visited Goryon san for mum’s chill night.
The Japanese kushiyaki atmosphere, food and great range of Japanese liquors were amazing.
Unfortunately, there were not many choices of menus due to a shortage of staff. We talked to one of the staff and knew that the staff takes a long time for the preparation. We could see the quality of food and great tase from their hard work.
Especially I really enjoyed lettuce maki and scallop bacon.
Highly recommend.
We ordered $89 Omakase, food was so nice, and it made me so full! The price definitely worth it’s value and quality. 5 stars with no doubt
