There's always a line in the morning. A long line, but.... There's a reason the line is so long. I have no idea how two people can make so many coffees so quickly and have mine be so consistently perfect every day. The girl who takes my order remembers my name, my toast is always the way I like it and I have to wait half the time I do at cafes elsewhere. When it has settled down in the afternoon I get to have a quick chat with the Barista which I like. The only thing is that he takes less than a minute to@ make my coffee so it's back to work I go!
This place seems to always be queueing whenever I come by in the morning. Service is quite fast, and the girl in the counter remembers my name after a few constant visits, so that is very nice. However, it will be better if they actually hand the cups and confirm people's order and not just calling up names, as I've seen an instant where a homeless man taking other people's coffee. Their Chai lattes are one of the best around the area.
East of George is something of a dead zone for coffee so I was interested to try Urban Barrel, a new coffee kiosk that has opened up in the revamped MLC Centre. My (Campos) coffee was smooth, well poured and flavourful. At $3 for a small cup it was also a bargain. This is probably the best coffee I've had in the area (Abana is good but it varies according to barista) so I will definitely be coming back here again. This place has been slow picking up but seems to be gathering a following now. I'm no marketing expert but I'd suggest they look at how they present themselves if they want to build their trade. Unlike the other new places in MLC that have very clear branding so you know exactly what they're offering, it took me a while to realise that this place was a coffee specialist. This needs to be a lot clearer.
