I ate here with my partner since our nearby favourite Japanese restaurant, Ramen Kan, was closed for the day. This is yet another restaurant I've always wanted to eat at, but never got the chance to because of my family. So I jumped onto this opportunity to try it out.
Just like most restaurants, we were greeted and directed to our seats promptly. The menu had a large selection and a lot of options. I went with the usual karaage chicken ramen (definitely not to compare hehe) whilst my partner chose a katsu chicken curry rice dish. The cutlery was placed underneath the serviettes in a cute basket, which also had additional seasoning such as chilli powder on the side.
The waiter brought us some water, which we could ask to be refilled at any time. The waiters were very attentive so this was not an issue. The food came out reasonably quick, was cooked properly and my ramen was presented nicely.
The ramen soup was quite nice and the noodles were of a perfect thickness. There was a good amount of toppings to complement the dish. The karaage chicken was very flavoursome, and looked a bit burnt on some parts. May have been a little too salty but it was delicious nevertheless. I tried some of my partner's curry and chicken katsu, and likewise it was a tad too salty. The curry was okay, but I probably couldn't stand a whole plate of it. The chicken katsu was very tasty however.
Great restaurant that is easily accessible and has a great atmosphere to it. Service is very good, just like the food. I'd definitely eat here again when I get the chance.
I have eaten here on various occasions and each was a great experience. However, on this particular occasion the food and service really didn't meet the usual expectations I had.
I was greeted by a lovely staff member who showed us to our seats and was made very comfortable. It did take awhile for them to take our orders even with a few customers in the restaurant. Food also took awhile and by the time my dish arrived, I was starving. I ordered the chicken karage lunch bento special which was delicious. However, the spicy tofu side dish was a winner though! The downfall of my meal was the miso soup that came with the bento. It tasted kind of funny..? Ive tried the miso soup here before on many occasions but never has it tasted like this.
Food is cheap and perfect for your lunch breaks. I'll be coming back but hopefully today was just an "off" day they were having as it really is a great place to dine!
I've been a loyal Poporo customer for over eight years, their ramen and pasta is something I'll never get sick of!
The menu has Western/Japanese influence, no sushi or side dishes- but pasta! The half-set menus also allow you to try everything in small portions.
Ambience is simple, but comfy and welcoming, along with their service. Definitely a must try 🙂
Went there as the last customers for the day, staff were friendly and served us as usual.
The teriyaki chicken and the karage chicken dinner bento 🍱 box were great, tasty food and just what we needed at the time. Will definitely come back again.
Service was excellent. Very friendly staff. Food tasted amazing. Ordered the omelette rice and the teriyaki chicken udon. The dessert was fried green tea ice cream. Unfortunately, it did not taste nice. The dough around the green tea ice cream was far too thick (approx. 3cm). It also contained one scoop of green tea ice cream on the side that tasted delicious. The green tea ice cream inside the fried dough was bitter compared to the other scoop. It was surprising that two different green tea ice cream flavours were used. I would definitely not recommend ordering the fried green tea ice cream.
Update: tables could be cleaner ie less sticky. The cloth that was used to wipe our table smelled disgusting and left the smell on the wiped table. Smelt like sewerage. We had to wipe the table ourselves with clean paper and water. Perhaps the cloth should be changed/ washed when it starts to smell? Food tasted fantastic after the smell was gone!
The food here is super affordable and also very delicious! We ordered the kaisen don, mentaiko spaghetti, tonkatsu curry, shio corn butter ramen, and fried green tea ice cream. My favourite has got to be the mentaiko spaghetti!
FOOD COURT EATS: Poporo Takeru is an Asian fusion restaurant comprising of mostly Japanese and Italian food. Poporo Takeru is located in Market City in Chinatown, Sydney CBD. It mimics the menu of Takeru (now Niigata) on Sussex st. The menu is quite extensive and also has options of half portions so you can try different dishes which I love.
Love this place! Great food like all takeru restaurants and affordable. Friend got a lunch box ($13) and i wasnt hungry so was able to nibble my way through two $3 plates of entrees - side salad and tofu kimchi. Great value! Will be back
Customers service was pretty awful. Gave us dirties which made us feel very displeased but nonetheless it was very delishhh and portion sizes were jsit right but I'm just fat lolz hahah so yeh but defs go again haha

The cheerful red and white colour scheme has something to do with this burst of youthful exuberance. Shiny plastic stools--with a very generous seat--cluster around a table at the front and line the kitchen counter. But most of the dining area is situtate
