Sushi Rio is located next to Ho Jiak, Haymarket and is quite spacious. The whole experience was amazing! The food was great, the ambiance of the restaurant was nice and the chef & staff were very welcoming. The food was delicious, the ingredients were fresh (especially the sashimi!) and everything was clean. The restaurant also provided free hot tea during this cold weather and the chef also gave us 2 complimentary dishes. The only downside is that the seating area is just single seats around the sushi train, so there are no tables for groups. Overall, I would definitely come back because I loved the experience and would recommend this to everyone. A 10/10 for sure 👍🏻
One of the best Japanese casual dining places in Sydney, freshly made, didnt skimp on ingredients and most importantly, nicely toasted nori but compared to other places in the world, it’s mediocre. (Order it freshly made through tablet, not the conveyor belt)
We went to Ho Jiak in Haymarket last night, and happened to see Sushi Rio next to it. The promise of $3.50 sushi drew us in and made us unfaithful to Sushi Hotaru. Overall Sushi Rio was great. I’m not going to do a detailed review of 14 different items so I will instead review the vibe. It was a very cosy restaurant with a small train around a central sushi preparation area. There was only one sushi chef, who was very responsive to us and the 3 other parties who were dining at the same time. It felt very intimate, like in Japan, to have the one sushi chef catering to us individually.
Cheap eats here. $3.50 per plate and get 5% off if you pay by cash. So many options from the train or choose from the touch screen. Handrolls and authentically made nigiri are included in the deal. They also cater with platters for parties.
Would recommend for casual meals. Not a bad choice if it’s not a hot day but there was no air con today.
Quick, efficient and delicious that's how I would describe Sushi Rio. The staff were nice, they smile a lot and it feels like Japan in Sydney.
Would recommend to eat for lunch.
Definitely one of the best sushi train around Sydney. For a mostly flat $3.50 per plate train, the quality of the sushi are quite good. The pieces are in good proportions. Plenty of varieties to choose from on the train or order off the touchscreen.
They accept only cash and have as many sushi as u want after completing your meal they gonna count plates to charge you the exact price.
You can choose sushi from the menu apart from sushi train as well.
Go and grab it ..my favourite affordable sushi joint.

Decent sushi at $3.50 for nigiri sushi.
Quite satisfied with their kaisendon (sashimi on top of rice) at $7.80. I would recommend the Kaisen don here.
Decent sushi train - easy to order using tablets. Not the biggest range of options but you have the classics. Price is quite cheap with a further discount if you pay in cash. Scallops is yummy.
3.5 stars. No frills budget sushi train. You get what you pay for. Not super clean, surfaces are a bit sticky but a cheap option.
HOW HAVE I JUST DISCOVERED THIS PLACE? But seriously, it was so good and so cheap. The selection isn’t huge but they do make things on order if you don’t see it. Pro tip: sit near where they are making the sushi and grab the freshest plates. 🤩🤩 can’t wait to return!!
Our favourite sushi train (although sometimes they are so busy it’s almost Al a carte!). All plates are $3.50 which is amazing considering you can get seared scallops, salmon, wagyu and pretty much any sushi under the sun.
Can I also just say - it’s so fresh! Portions are good too. I can’t rave enough about them - I love me a sushi rio!
My favourite place for good hand rolled sushi. The management has changed and I would say it has lost some points but the quality hasn’t dropped a big deal enough to drive people away. If you request fresh sushi to order you won’t be dissatisfied.
The staff may be slow and sometimes get overwhelmed by a large influx of customers but they aim to be as helpful as they can and I can appreciate that.
